Windows 8.1 - Battery Charger Disconnects Ethernet

Oct 30, 2013

I recently upgraded my OS from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, and everything seemed to run normally. I have to connect to the internet via ethernet cable, which isn't a problem at all. However, whenever I plug in the battery charger, the ethernet connection stops working, but I can still connect via Wifi adapter.

I can't use wifi most of the time, so this does bother me a lot.

Windows 8 Hanging When Connect The Charger

Nov 10, 2012

I downloaded Windows 8 the next day after it's release. It worked well for a week, but then soon after, every time I would connect my adapter to charge my laptop, it would hang. It works just fine without the adapter. I tried connecting another adapter and it would still hang.

For now I have downgraded back to windows 7. What could be the reason? I wanna upgrade as soon as I can !!

Some one told me to update the graphics card driver. My config is 4gb RAM, 1 GB nVidia graphic card Intel i5 processor...

Hardware Drivers :: Mouse Disconnects And Reconnects Randomly Windows 8.1?

Jan 31, 2014

I've tried three mice, Logitech G400, Razer Deathadder 3.5 and a random Logitech wireless but the problem remains.

I haven't found any coincidents when i run a specific program or game. Sometimes it goes a day or two without incident and sometimes multiple times a day. I have run several Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Avast scans but they did not find anything.

I have also ran a "sfc /scannow" and the "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" to fix. I have tried the current drivers for every mouse, tried without drivers and tried to uninstall all drivers all let Windows install them itself.

Windows 8 - Battery Life Indication

I run on windows 8.. I can't find out where the battery life is anywhere! It isn't in the taskbar and it isn't in the Charms bar. It is really starting to annoy me now....

I have tried going into the notifications area and changing the behaviour of it but that doesn't work either. This is what shows up.

Maintenance :: Why Windows 8 Not Warn When Battery Is Low

Mar 22, 2014

OK so Windows used to warn me my battery is low when it is at 10%. However, it no longer does, so it will now shut down without warning me to plug in my charger. Why is it doing this, and what can I do to make it warn me again? It is so ridiculous that I have to restart the computer just because the battery died and I wasn't warned by the system.

Maintenance :: CMOS Battery / Windows Fail

Jul 30, 2013

So lately the system time on my computer wasn't telling the right time, and every time I changed it, it would just change back. So I changed the CMOS battery to what I assumed to be an identical battery, and Windows was unable to start and said I had to system restore. So I took out the old battery and put the new one in and the same thing happened. When it prompts me to restore and I click on it, I just get the black screen with the blue windows icon, minus the loading icon. What should I do?

How Does Windows 8 Show 20% Lost Battery Capacity

Aug 25, 2014

As a student I had quite a lot of trouble with my previous laptop's battery. It had an autonomy of 4h in the beginning, but one day, while it still had 50%, it suddenly dropped to zero for some reason, and after that incident the battery has never exceeded 50% charge again. So I had to buy another one, but this one also dropped to 2h autonomy after some months, although it still showed 100% charge.

I now have a new laptop, an Asus T300LA, that I chose for its 8h autonomy. As I really wanted to take care of the battery, I searched on the internet how to deal with a li-ion, and learned that I had to drop the charge from 100% to 5% at first use, but should never let it go below 5% as it would permanently lose 20% of its capacity at once. But during the process I was too scared that the charge level shown by Windows would be false and while it would indicate 5% it would actually be less, so I plugged the laptop at 8%; and I was indeed right, as the battery level suddenly switched to 5% when I did so !

Basically I am fearing the infamous 20% battery damage occured without my knowing since the battery level indicated by Windows can't be trusted. The problem is, I don't know how to check it; with my previous laptop (Windows 7), on one battery the damage wasn't shown and it would still indicate 100% charge when filled, whereas on the other one the damage was clearly noticeable as the battery level would never indicate more than 50% even when filled up.

How can I verify if my battery is pristine or not ? If it indeed lost 20% of its capacity, should Windows 8 indicate a completely filled charge as 100% or 80% ?

Also, with maximum screen brightness Windows tells me this: "your current brightness setting might reduce battery life". What does it mean by "battery life" ? The current charge length or the whole time I can use the battery before it's good for junk ?

Network / Sharing :: WiFi Randomly Disconnects?

Jul 21, 2013

Sometimes when I am working on my laptop doing whatever it just disconnects me out of the blue. It shows this stupid icon and says that there are no connections possible:

At first, I did not know what to do so I just began doing some random things on the network center. Then I figured out how to solve it:

First open network center

Then, Open adapter settings

Disable your Wifi network card

Next, Enable it again

And then your internet connection is back again

Now this works fine on short term, it takes like less then one minute.

Internet Randomly Disconnects And Choppy Audio

Aug 7, 2014

I have a Windows 8 computer, HP 110-017cb. Here is a look at it online with some of its features and specs: [URL] .....

Now the first problem that I have been having for awhile, is that it randomly disconnects and reconnects to and from the internet. My computer requires an ethernet cord, and it is never unplugged. I have tried different ethernet cords and blown out the ethernet ports on both the computer and the modem, and I cannot identify the problem. It is not the modem as my brother plays our PlayStation 3 online with an ethernet cord and he never gets disconnected.

The other problem I have had is that recently when I watch videos or listen to sounds, the audio gets choppy and distorted, and the whole computer slows down. The most that has ever happened while I was on the computer, was that sometimes I would watch videos online and the video would freeze but the sound would keep playing without a problem. The sound itself has never been distorted before until this problem.

Network / Sharing :: Internet Randomly Disconnects?

I am running Windows 8 on a Dell Inspiron 3520. At random moments, the internet disconnects. Sites do not load, however it says I am still connected to the network. I have to manually reconnect to my network for the internet to work again. This is quite frustrating. The other laptops I have (and have used for many years) do not have this problem, so I believe it to be a problem with either the OS or the hardware.

Network / Sharing :: Internet (LAN) Disconnects After 5 Seconds

Mar 3, 2012

I'm loving Windows 8 Consumer Preview so far. However, my internet connection (Cable/LAN/Hikari Fiber) is disconnecting after 5 or so seconds. I'm using a Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (on an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 Motherboard).

The system is dual booting with Windows 7 and that connection is perfectly OK. To get it to work again (for 5 seconds) I have to disable and re-enable the controller, and sometimes it seems necessary to delete the connection and set up another one.

Fortunately my connection is fast so I was able to stubbornly update a few small files via Windows Update by reconnecting many times, with a few % progress each time! Non of those updates were related to the connection hardware or this issue though.

So far I've tried (numerous times):

1. (The above update procedure, in case of hardware updates.)
2. Disabling and enabling the controller, and setting up the connection again.
3. (Swapping the drivers with Windows 7's, and then back to the originals.)
4. Re-installing Windows 8
5. Searching Marvell's site for driver updates.
6. Searching Asus's site for updates.
7. (Connection Login and Password are correct)

Points of note:

a. Windows 7 (dual boot) is connecting fine.
b. This is a hobby, so basic stuff should have been covered.
c. The timezone, date and time are set correctly.

This motherboard is very popular, and I don't see similar issues online, other than maybe wireless ones. I wouldn't have expected things to be too different from Windows 7. I'm expecting it is a simple driver issue.

Network / Sharing :: Internet Disconnects When Trying To Play Certain Game

Aug 18, 2014

Well there's this game that uses HTTP protocol for everything. I built a new computer with Windows 8.1 Pro as my OS and whenever I try to play the game my internet ends up disconnecting. (connection from my computer to the router, the router itself doesn't disconnect)

This never happens with any other game, my internet never disconnects from anything else at all really. Whenever I open the game, try to download and view another user's replay or just in general try to do anything from within the game I end up disconnecting.

I'm using the exact same router/internet that I was using on my old computer (although a new network adapter, same model though) which was running W7 Ultimate. It's making playing the game very frustrating considering it needs an internet connection to officially submit any kind of scores you make.

Network / Sharing :: WiFi Disconnects Momentarily On Laptop

Mar 6, 2014

I have been having trouble with the WiFi connection on my laptop for quite a while now. It used to be that it would simply disconnect from wifi for now apparent reason, but I changed a few settings and now that seems to be resolved for the most part. I have a new problem though. The wifi tends to disconnect for just a couple of seconds occasionally, and then fix itself. It wouldn't be a problem, but the interrupt is usually enough to kill my Skype calls (which I do a lot of) or any VPN connections I am on (which I also do a lot of). What would cause a momentary interruption in wifi?

Hardware Drivers :: External HDD Disconnects Then Reconnects During File Transfer

Aug 23, 2014

About a few days ago I tried copying some stuff from my old laptop to my new one with my Toshiba HDD (750GB). Some are large sizes.

At least 2 files were corrupted and from then on out, I've been having issues with the external. The folder it was in could not be deleted. I tried EVERY possible way to delete it (it SEEMED to delete all the files when i did but it says there are still files in it). I ran all kinds of checks and defrag fixes and I assumed everything was fine (files showed up...) But now I can transfer files FROM it but not TO it. Once in a while I'd be able to get some stuff onto it but then it disconnects and says that the file I'm trying to copy from my laptop (both laptops now) is not in its location. Then the external HDD disconnects then reconnects. And I am having that folder deletion problem again.

EDIT: now I'm having issues transferring FROM the external.

Getting Win 7 Low Battery Notification Back On Win 8?

Jun 8, 2014

I was wondering if it was possible to get the old, unobtrusive low battery notification from Windows 7 on Windows 8? As it stands, whenever I hit 10% battery, this huge bar pops up right in the middle of my screen and minimizes anything I might be working on. This is fine in most cases, except for when I'm gaming and end up running off a cliff while trying to get the game window back up. -_- Is it possible to just have a little popup appear above the taskbar when my battery gets low, like in Windows 7? I'm really trying to like Windows 8, but stuff like this is unacceptable.

Network / Sharing :: User Account Disconnects From Router And Disables Internet

Jun 16, 2014

I have a wireless router and am connecting 2 phones (wifi) and 1 PC (ethernet). The PC is running Windows 8 and has two User Accounts (I'll call them "Business" and "Personal").

Since setting up the router, the phones have connected over wifi without problem. If I log onto the "Personal" user account on my PC, it connects over ethernet, and the phones still work with wifi.

However, if I log my PC onto my "Business" user account, the PC says it has connected to the Home Hub via the ethernet cable, but there is no internet connection. It also causes the internet connection on the phones to drop (sometimes the wifi goes down completely, sometimes it says it's connected to wifi, but there is no internet). I don't think it's an ethernet problem either, as I connected my PC wirelessly instead of with the cable, and the same thing happens.

The PC only ever does this on the "Business" user account, the "Personal" account works fine (I'm using that now). Looked everywhere to find a solution, I assume it's something in the settings, rather than a router issue. Can't find the answer anywhere.

Battery Dies On Standby After SSD Install?

After doing so i noticed the expected increase in performance. Mostly the startup times of the OS and of most apps.

Only problem i have now is that my battery tends to die rather rapid while the system sleeps. Prior to the SSD it would seem i could leave the system on standby for a week or better with no issue. Now i am lucky if the system stays alive for a day on standby. Something that may have changed during the install or a SSD optimization thing that could have screwed with my battery life on standby?
