Network / Sharing :: Internet (LAN) Disconnects After 5 Seconds

Mar 3, 2012

I'm loving Windows 8 Consumer Preview so far. However, my internet connection (Cable/LAN/Hikari Fiber) is disconnecting after 5 or so seconds. I'm using a Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (on an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 Motherboard).

The system is dual booting with Windows 7 and that connection is perfectly OK. To get it to work again (for 5 seconds) I have to disable and re-enable the controller, and sometimes it seems necessary to delete the connection and set up another one.

Fortunately my connection is fast so I was able to stubbornly update a few small files via Windows Update by reconnecting many times, with a few % progress each time! Non of those updates were related to the connection hardware or this issue though.

So far I've tried (numerous times):

1. (The above update procedure, in case of hardware updates.)
2. Disabling and enabling the controller, and setting up the connection again.
3. (Swapping the drivers with Windows 7's, and then back to the originals.)
4. Re-installing Windows 8
5. Searching Marvell's site for driver updates.
6. Searching Asus's site for updates.
7. (Connection Login and Password are correct)

Points of note:

a. Windows 7 (dual boot) is connecting fine.
b. This is a hobby, so basic stuff should have been covered.
c. The timezone, date and time are set correctly.

This motherboard is very popular, and I don't see similar issues online, other than maybe wireless ones. I wouldn't have expected things to be too different from Windows 7. I'm expecting it is a simple driver issue.

Network / Sharing :: Internet Randomly Disconnects?

Jun 28, 2013

I am running Windows 8 on a Dell Inspiron 3520. At random moments, the internet disconnects. Sites do not load, however it says I am still connected to the network. I have to manually reconnect to my network for the internet to work again. This is quite frustrating. The other laptops I have (and have used for many years) do not have this problem, so I believe it to be a problem with either the OS or the hardware.

Network / Sharing :: Internet Disconnects When Trying To Play Certain Game

Aug 18, 2014

Well there's this game that uses HTTP protocol for everything. I built a new computer with Windows 8.1 Pro as my OS and whenever I try to play the game my internet ends up disconnecting. (connection from my computer to the router, the router itself doesn't disconnect)

This never happens with any other game, my internet never disconnects from anything else at all really. Whenever I open the game, try to download and view another user's replay or just in general try to do anything from within the game I end up disconnecting.

I'm using the exact same router/internet that I was using on my old computer (although a new network adapter, same model though) which was running W7 Ultimate. It's making playing the game very frustrating considering it needs an internet connection to officially submit any kind of scores you make.

Network / Sharing :: User Account Disconnects From Router And Disables Internet

Jun 16, 2014

I have a wireless router and am connecting 2 phones (wifi) and 1 PC (ethernet). The PC is running Windows 8 and has two User Accounts (I'll call them "Business" and "Personal").

Since setting up the router, the phones have connected over wifi without problem. If I log onto the "Personal" user account on my PC, it connects over ethernet, and the phones still work with wifi.

However, if I log my PC onto my "Business" user account, the PC says it has connected to the Home Hub via the ethernet cable, but there is no internet connection. It also causes the internet connection on the phones to drop (sometimes the wifi goes down completely, sometimes it says it's connected to wifi, but there is no internet). I don't think it's an ethernet problem either, as I connected my PC wirelessly instead of with the cable, and the same thing happens.

The PC only ever does this on the "Business" user account, the "Personal" account works fine (I'm using that now). Looked everywhere to find a solution, I assume it's something in the settings, rather than a router issue. Can't find the answer anywhere.

Network / Sharing :: Windows 8 - Internet Access Disabled After 30 Seconds Or So

Dec 28, 2012

My friend lives in an area where the only possible internet connection is through a CDMA USB device. They have multiple computers all connected through a host computer sharing this CDMA connection.

Recently they had a major problem with the Windows XP machine that was acting as host. So they bought a new desktop computer (HP PRE with Intel Core i7). I got them a copy of Windows 8 Pro and installed it on the host. Everything was going great until it was time to share the internet connection! I clicked on the CDMA device and clicked to share the connection using the ethernet connector as the shared device. The Ethernet cable goes to wireless router plugged into 1 of 4 switch connectors. All WAN features are turned off on router. I set the router's local IP to an address in same subnet as shared connection on host machine (192.168.137.1).

Then I connected a 2nd computer to the wireless router. This computer connects great! It gets an valid IP address from host. I can connect from 2nd computer to host to browse files on host, no problem. However, the 2nd computer can not connect to the internet.

When it first connects, the 2nd computer shows internet access, but after 30 seconds or so, internet access is disabled.

Network / Sharing :: WiFi Randomly Disconnects?

Jul 21, 2013

Sometimes when I am working on my laptop doing whatever it just disconnects me out of the blue. It shows this stupid icon and says that there are no connections possible:

At first, I did not know what to do so I just began doing some random things on the network center. Then I figured out how to solve it:

First open network center

Then, Open adapter settings

Disable your Wifi network card

Next, Enable it again

And then your internet connection is back again

Now this works fine on short term, it takes like less then one minute.

Network / Sharing :: Win 8.1 Disconnects From Network During Mediashare

Feb 25, 2014

For Christmas we purchased an all in one Dell Inspiron, along with a new Toshiba LED TV. I just recently figured out how to use the TV's mediashare function, playing video/audio files from my Dell's hard drive.

Prior to the update to Windows 8.1, there didn't seem to be any issues. However, since that update, we'll be watching a video file (several, it doesn't seem to matter what the file is) and the file will stop playing, and a message saying connection was lost will pop up. When I then check the computer, it shows it has "limited connection" to the home network, and I'll have to disconnect and reconnect before we can start watching again.

From what I can tell, it ONLY happens during mediashare use, and never during normal computer usage.

Network / Sharing :: WiFi Disconnects Momentarily On Laptop

Mar 6, 2014

I have been having trouble with the WiFi connection on my laptop for quite a while now. It used to be that it would simply disconnect from wifi for now apparent reason, but I changed a few settings and now that seems to be resolved for the most part. I have a new problem though. The wifi tends to disconnect for just a couple of seconds occasionally, and then fix itself. It wouldn't be a problem, but the interrupt is usually enough to kill my Skype calls (which I do a lot of) or any VPN connections I am on (which I also do a lot of). What would cause a momentary interruption in wifi?

Network / Sharing :: Windows 8 - Lag Spikes Every 60 Seconds

Aug 23, 2013

This issue has been persisting ever since I bought this laptop. Every 60 seconds (exactly 60 seconds), my wireless internet will spike dramatically to the point of making me extremely angry like this. In any game I play where I average a 30-60 ping, the ping would spike anywhere from 300-1000ms and last for about 4 seconds.

It happens every single day since I got this laptop, and I have tried a few solutions and none of them have worked.

I've tried disabling TCP/IPv6I have disabled all firewalls. I have no anti virus/malware software on any kind. I disabled homegroups. I have a static IP (and ports opened for certain games)I have tried using Vista Anti Lag

None of these have worked in the slightest way. I do not believe it is my router causing the issue, because any of the other 3 computers, phones, and my Xbox 360 do not have this issue. Two of the other computers run windows XP, while the other one runs Windows 8. Also, I can not directly connect my laptop to the router because of living arrangements and how everything is set up.

I'm starting to think it's an issue with all the useless Samsung crap installed on this laptop. It's a 750gb hard drive, and only 677gb's were free to use. I'm pretty sure Windows 8 doesn't take up that much space...

I created a folder called C:data on desktop A and shared it out. I created the same local user account from Desktop B onto Desktop A and gave them read access to the folder. When i reboot desktop A i can see it momentarily from Desktop B and can see the files in the folder but after a few minutes (1 or 2) access is then gone and i can no longer ping Desktop A from Desktop B. If i reboot i can see it and ping it again for a few minutes then access is gone again. Why is that?

The original p[lan was to allow the user from Desktop B to see one folder on Desktop A but not login to Desktop A locally.

Internet Randomly Disconnects And Choppy Audio

Aug 7, 2014

I have a Windows 8 computer, HP 110-017cb. Here is a look at it online with some of its features and specs: [URL] .....

Now the first problem that I have been having for awhile, is that it randomly disconnects and reconnects to and from the internet. My computer requires an ethernet cord, and it is never unplugged. I have tried different ethernet cords and blown out the ethernet ports on both the computer and the modem, and I cannot identify the problem. It is not the modem as my brother plays our PlayStation 3 online with an ethernet cord and he never gets disconnected.

The other problem I have had is that recently when I watch videos or listen to sounds, the audio gets choppy and distorted, and the whole computer slows down. The most that has ever happened while I was on the computer, was that sometimes I would watch videos online and the video would freeze but the sound would keep playing without a problem. The sound itself has never been distorted before until this problem.

Network / Sharing :: ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) For Xbox Live On Windows 8

Jan 3, 2014

Okay, so in Windows 7 I am able to connect my wireless to my phone, and run an ethernet cable over to my Xbox. If I use the ICS feature and configure it under services to allow ports 88 and 53 UDP, it works fine. This also allows my Xbox to seemingly add to this list of ports as it finds necessary.

The issue is however, with Windows 8, although I can connect to Xbox Live the same way, it does not seemingly allow the Xbox to add more ports that it deems necessary. This leads to that NAT error message that I am actually trying to do this as a way to bypass it.

In Windows 7 this only works if the connection is set to Home (not sure about Work), but not public. I'm curious if the reason this does not work in Windows 8 is that Windows 8 does not have a Home option, but rather only Private or Public settings. There is some small setting buried deep somewhere that I just need to change to treat it like Windows 7 allows Xbox to treat home networks and configure/add ports automatically.

Network / Sharing :: Unidentified Network With No Internet Access

Sep 15, 2014

I got this problem on my laptop Asus u38dt under Windows 8.1 a couple of months ago. It cannot connect to any network either via Wi-Fi or Ethernet (I tried an external USB Wi-Fi adapter as well, with the same result). In case of getting IP with DHCP, the network is shown as Unidentified network with no address assiged (IP is like 169.*). When static IP enabled, the network name is correct. But in both cases, connection is Limited and with No Internet access.

Connection can't be established with any router while other devices connect properly with them, so the problem is on the laptop side.

With all of this, any ping, even to 127.0.0.1, results in General failure.

When booted in Linux liveUSB, network works fine, so it is clearly not a hardware issue.

I tried resetting TCP/IP stack with "netsh int ip reset", reinstalling drivers, reinstalling the network adapter, and lots of other methods and still it doesn't work. Restoring system is not an option since I don't have any restoration point prior to the problem anymore.

Network / Sharing :: No Internet Traffic (mostly)

Jan 23, 2014

Trying to fix my wife's computer (Toshiba Ultrabook, purchased 08/2013, Windows 8 as a standalone workstation) - I haven't been on it ever before; not very Windows 8 fluent.

Symptoms:

Can't load anything in IE or Firefox, including local router web interface
Can't RDC or FTP
CAN ping websites

On login, balloon appears:Failed to connect to windows service; Windows couldn't connect to the Windows All-User Install Agent service Service isn't running, but starts on my command without issue. It's set for Automatic startup. Starting service does not resolve any issues.

Ran SFC... From cbs log:
DIRSD OWNER WARNING - about 600 instances, mostly in C:windows
"Ignoring duplicate ownership for directory" another 600 instances

My wife's account is an Admin account. While in her account, I created a new user account, also admin. This new account has the same issues as my wife's.

As another bit of info, this weekend my wife used an older WD external USB HD for the first time. She didn't experience any difficulties, except the "safely remove device" attempt was never successful. Not sure if this is correlation or coincidence.

Network / Sharing :: New Toshiba S55 B Getting Very Bad Internet Connection?

Sep 15, 2014

I'm new to Win 8.1 but I'm fairly tech-savvy. I've got a new Toshiba Satellite S55 B5289 with Win 8.1, connecting to the Internet via Time-Warner over wifi. I'd go into the details of the wifi and router, but given that I've got a month-old HP with Win 7, and a 2-year old Samsung Chromebook sitting here with the Toshiba, all three running Chrome as opposed to IE, and the other two getting significantly better speed, I don't think those details are really critical.

This problem has been going on since I brought the new laptop home, but I've carefully uninstalled all the bloatware that came pre-installed, and made the standard Chrome tweaks [unchecking the hardware accelleration] nothing has worked. Yesterday I took it to a friend who has a computer repair business and he tuned up a lot of the things inside Win 8.1 that I had no clue about - as I understood it, making 8.1 run Chrome without going *through* IE. I didn't pay as much attention to that as I should have, but essentially everything seemed to be working very well. His Internet connection, however, is lightning fast, and connecting to that wifi, things were downloading and running spectacularly well. Just what I'd expected - or at least hoped for - when I bought it.

Using it at home today, the problems have resurfaced. Loading emails, for instance, is not quite right. Images in the emails frequently don't load properly - it will stutter and often stops in the middle of an email. If I click on a link, there can be a significant delay before the page loads. Videos buffer every few seconds and even when I let the entire video load, it still plays spastically.

All of this is in Chrome, using tabs - which I always do. Yes, of course I could clear the cache, start fresh, use no tabs, let one thing load at a time, but that's not what I have ever done, so this is real world testing. The most telling detail, though is the download speeds I'm getting.

Running Speedtest on all three machines, the ping is basically the same, but on the Toshiba, it frequently can't even finish the download test. It just stalls to a halt. The Chromebook gets a download speed of 5.75 and the HP gets 21.31. We pay Time-Warner for 20, so I'd really like to see something like that on the Toshiba.
