I have Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit activated using kmspico. For some reason, every time I wake up my computer, it disconnects it from the Wifi and when I try reconnecting it, it won't reconnect, then I had to restart my computer to connect it again successfully. This never happened on the computer's previous Os's.
View 5 RepliesI'm having the same problem with my Acer w500 which uses mSATA SSD drives only. I have upgraded to a Mushkin Atlas 120GB V series SSD and obviously upgraded to Windows 8 (professional) and every time it wakes from sleep it says there was a problem and needs to reboot. I'm going to put the stock 32GB Sandisk SSD back in later today and see if the problem is still present. I do have the latest BIOS on this computer and the latest firmware on the Mushkin SSD, drivers are the latest from Acer and most are November 2012 dates. There are no BIOS settings on this computer, all I really get are boot order, AHCI or IDE mode, and a couple other trivial things so I can't change suspend to ram or suspend to disk settings. I'll make the changes to hopefully show the BSOD when it comes out of sleep so I can try to gather more info.
This was a "clean" upgrade install (do not keep any settings or applications) which puts all the old stuff in a .old file, it was a clean from restore disk win7 that was used as the base OS to allow an upgrade, and is the 32 bit version of Windows 8.
Sometimes when I am working on my laptop doing whatever it just disconnects me out of the blue. It shows this stupid icon and says that there are no connections possible:
At first, I did not know what to do so I just began doing some random things on the network center. Then I figured out how to solve it:
First open network center
Then, Open adapter settings
Disable your Wifi network card
Next, Enable it again
And then your internet connection is back again
Now this works fine on short term, it takes like less then one minute.
Recently during the past month or so, my system has developed a problem where the wi-fi works initially for about a minute or so after waking up from sleep, and then abruptly disconnects.

It used to be that it would simply disconnect from wifi for now apparent reason, but I changed a few settings and now that seems to be resolved for the most part. I have a new problem though. The wifi tends to disconnect for just a couple of seconds occasionally, and then fix itself. It wouldn't be a problem, but the interrupt is usually enough to kill my Skype calls (which I do a lot of) or any VPN connections I am on (which I also do a lot of). What would cause a momentary interruption in wifi?

And after I close the lid on battery and it goes to sleep, and I reopen, there is no more audio until I restart. I am running windows 8.1 pro.
I recently redid all my windows as it was time to clean everything out. When all was said and done, I only wanted my keyboard to be the only thing that wakes my computer. I've disabled everything (network adapters, etc) and the mouse within device manager. Yet, somehow - my computer is still able to be woken with the mouse. Is there something else that I'm missing? It's a Logitech G500, there is nothing in logitech gaming software I can find about this and it's already disabled in device manager (as well as any other mice that are listed).

Is there a way to send a wake command to the system when I want to print? WOL is working on the system. I noticed Homegroup has the option to wake the computer to view shares (and that does work).

Disabling wake-on-usb is not an option as i want to be able to wake up my computer when i press a key on my keyboard.I have tried to check in device manager for the power control options of my mouse.
My Acer M5811 will not wake up from sleep mode on intermittent basis. Running Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. Power settings are disabled for both the monitor and CPU. I have also disabled "allow computer to shut off applications to save power" to devices. I never had this issue until I installed Windows 8 (clean install) from Windows 7. I have updated all drivers but have had no luck. The computer will wake up successfully several times, then it will not wake up. It appears to start up but the monitor remains in sleep mode. The only way to fix the problem is to shut down the computer and then restart. Acer M5811, purchased May 2010; i760 processor; 8 GB ram, ATI Radeon 5570, 1TB hard drive.

I did a fresh install (upgrade) and the moment I got the desktop up and idle, I tried to put the computer to sleep. It did, then 5 seconds later, on it came again.
Event viewer says "wake source unknown".
I have updated all drivers from asus, and installed all windows updates. No difference.
I have used every tool POWERCFG gives, it's report is clean, there are no wake requests, all devices (mouse keyboard) have had their wake ability disabled, I have even disable ALL devices in bios, booted without a keyboard and mouse and still, it wakes as soon as it's put to sleep. Even with all on board devices disabled except for sata.
Wake source: unknown.
I boot into Win 7 from another hard drive, no issues.
One thing to note is that from a fresh restart, if i put it to sleep, it stays asleep. Once waked, it will never sleep again. Restart the system, leave for idle for ages, hit the power button; it goes to sleep and stays. After waking, it never stays asleep again.
I have tried safe mode. no difference.
I have disabled all services. I have changed all the power settings to disable wake timers and to allow sleep during sharing. Still no difference.
What's up with my Asus Z8P68-V Pro that disagrees with windows 8? All my other machines have no issue.
I have no choice but to keep using Win7 at the moment, I can't have a computer that doesn't sleep.
So, I have a computer I built myself specs being: AMD FX-8350, Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3, AMD Raedon 7900 HD Series, 4x4GB 1600MHz, and Windows 8. I don't feel as though listing the other parts are necessary. Anyways, my problem is that whenever I leave my computer idle it goes to sleep. Only problem is, if it's for a long amount of time I can't wake it back up. I have to not only turn off the computer, but instead unplug it and plug it back into the power.

For reasons I can't explain, the time on my computer keeps randomly jumping forward, usually several times a day, in 10-30 minute increments. I go in and re-sync it to the internet time servers each time I notice, but it just changes randomly again a little bit later. The time.windows.com server usually returns the message "An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing with time.windows.com. This operation returned because the timeout period expired.", the other servers sometimes the same, sometimes no problem. The other computers on my network don't seem to have any problems.
How can I stop this happening?
The display and the sleep feature timers do not work. I just did a complete restore to try and correct this problem and another problem, which was no restore points and no ability to create one. The restore points are working for now, I mean that I was able to create a restore point. The display and sleep timer, not so, still a problem.
I've had this desktop Windows 8 computer since November and honestly I don't know if this has been a problem the whole time or not. Definitely, not the display, I know it has worked, but the sleep timer I'm not sure. I set the timer and just assume it sleeps and then goes into hibernation after a certain amount of time. With all the refreshing and restoring and changing over to this computer, I've not been paying much attention to the sound of the fan or the missing orange color on the power button (not visible, on the side of the computer).
I've set the timer through the Power Options feature in the Control Panel to 10 minutes for the sleep and to turn off the display to 3 minutes. Neither of them respond after set times. The computer is still wide awake and the display is not gone.
I have also gone to the "Change Advance Power Settings" menu box and turned off the hybrid sleep, which didn't work, and the Multimedia Settings in this menu box to turn on the setting "Allow The Computer To Sleep". Neither of these fixes did anything.
How can the computer not respond to something so basic and fundamental to its design?
Lastly, I'm wondering how this idea of powering down works at all. What I would like is for the computer to sleep after 20 minutes and then go into hibernation after 45 minutes. This would be when I'm done for the day. I have set the hibernation time in the "Change Advance Power Settings" menu box, but of course that does not respond either.
Shortly after I pressed the Power button for the first time on my brand new Windows 8 laptop, I was brought to the screen where I set my time zone. I changed the default - Pacific Time - to my time zone - Eastern Time - and continued setting up my computer. Not long after, I realized that the time shown on my computer was wrong, and when I checked I discovered that the time zone had reverted to Pacific Time.
The problem is: I cannot change the time zone! (Yes, I am an Administrator.) Whether I do it from the Start Screen or the desktop, the time zone always reverts to Pacific Time. I even tried running tzutil from an elevated command prompt - the time zone will not change.
How can I change the time zone to Eastern Time? (I have plain Windows 8, not the Pro version.)
I build computers for people. And after I install Windows 8.1 I want to install the drivers and set it to run first time boot again so my customers can customize it. I could do it on XP.

Recently, it stopped going to sleep on it's own (except the first time that the power plan is followed after boot). Otherwise, the monitor goes to sleep and that is it. After a bunch of other attempts and fixes, I have found that there is a driver that is blatantly disregarding powercfg settings (as seen here: [URL] .....). This has been going on for over a week. I have run sfc /scannow, and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth with no luck.
View 2 Replies View Relatedmy PC running Win 8/IE10 . At random times during the day, I lose the Hard Drive/ DVDDrive Icons in the "My Computer" and all icons in Control Panel . On both pages I just get a blank screen with "Empty Folder" message, and a blue "Search Bar" at the top. Also, when the fault occurs, I lose all the Thumbnail Icon pictures of my Photographs, leaving justa white square with the name of the photograph beneath.
If I double click on the white square, the photograph appears normally jn Windows photo viewer.
Rebooting returns the PC to normal for a couple of hours maybe, but eventually the fault will reappear.
I have run Kaspersky AntiVirus, MS Disk and Registry , but all report "No Problems". Tried to run scan now but keep getting 'try as administrator' when I am the administrator ?

My laptop computer is the only computer has 2 NIC and thus I have set it up so that no other computers on my network can reach the network storage. I will be changing how things are wired together so that the network storage will now be connected through the Wi-Fi router, however I want to maintain the security of not allowing other computers on my network from reaching the network storage.
Is there a way that I can do this? Can I put the network storage computer on a different workgroup from the other computers? Can I have my laptop see 2 work groups so that it can see both the network storage and my home (unrestricted) LAN?
I am running windows 8 (not 8.1) x64 on all my computers. My router is a Linsys E4200.
I've noticed that when I leave my pc for some time and the screen savers come on, then the screens go blank (my machine doesn't sleep or hibernate) when I use the pc again I can see that during the time the monitors had turned off, the CPU usage was at or above 50% ? When I use the computer after that, watching movies, photoshop etc the cpu usage is much less than that!

The case: We have here 2 laptops (Windows 8) side by side in free wifi spot . I know that in such spots, for safety purposes I have to set my laptop not to share and mine is set accordingly.
But how can I see the other laptop next to mine on my own screen? It is my mom's brand new laptop. It is not set for safe hot spot browsing by default. So, I should be able to see it, but how?
So, question is how to set my laptop to show my mom's laptop sitting next to mine? I believe something must be set in control panels, perhaps?
I have a tiny wireless piece from realtek that my dad had bought. This piece was working fine up until recently. I had built my own tower and put the piece in there from our old one.. All has been working up until now. Now when I turn on my new tower the wifi connects but does not work. No browsers load and none of my services are working. It also messes up the wifi connection for the other devices around. My sibling will be using their laptop playing something like WoW and when I power up my tower the lag hits. From time to time it will drop my laptop's internet connection entirely. However, this is not the case recently. The router we use is a linksys e2000.
Every now and then the pages load but they are slow and blocky. My dad says it is usually caused by a loss of packets but I did the packet test in cmd and only had a 1% loss.
I am facing a strange problem with my internet connection on Windows 8.
I have a netgear WNR612 wifi router and two laptops connected to it running Windows 7 on first and Windows 8 on second.
The connection in Windows 8 laptop shows sufficient signal strength but when I try to access internet, it does only shows connecting. I have changed browsers, wifi router, adsl router, released and reconnected IP address, forgot and re-added wifi network, reset wifi router to factory almost everything.
The strange part is that as soon as the other Windows 7 laptop is disconnected from the network, Windows 8 internet start working fine. I have tested this many times and there is no doubt in this behavior.
I dont know whether the problem is in any update installed on Windows 8 the older Dell Wireless 1703 wifi card or some virus in the other Windows 7 laptop.

Note that I have assigned preferred IP addresses to both laptops based on MAC.
I just got a new laptop (Acer Aspire One 756) and keep having an issue with the internet connection not being able to connect after the computer sleeps or hibernates for a few hours. It usually says identifying network... no internet access. I copied and pasted the trouble shooting that I did below. It still works if I restart or the computer sleeps or hibernates for less than an hour or so. The other computer and devices that use this connection work fine when mine isn't working. I can fix this problem by restarting the router and it works fine again.
It's just annoying to have to restart the router a few times a day. It also only does this with my network at home. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network adapter with the most updated driver, power cycling the router and all the devices, changing the network adapter settings to do not turn this device off to save power, and resetting the Winsock like I've seen on other forum posts. None of these has worked so far. The router is a dlink WBR-1310 and it's pretty old. My wireless network adapter is a Qualcomm Atheros AR5B125.
