Setup Installation :: Win 8 CD Install Hangs On Black Screen After 1st Auto Reboot
Mar 13, 2014This is a Windows 8 OEM CD install, on an i7 x64 system. I have tried this with both UEFI and legacy modes.
I cleaned the drive and allowed setup to partition and format how it sees fit on an Intel SSD.
The system copies files, sets them up and reboots.
The blue windows logo is up for a minute, then the screen (not the PC) power cycles (probably due to a resolution change). It hangs there on a black screen. There is a mouse cursor that responds and the num lock toggles on the kb, but nothing else. CTRL-ALT-DEL does nothing.

Jan 6, 2014Somehow i incidentally downloaded Windows 8.1 ( which i do not want to be installed to my Sony Vaio Laptop) but i thought that i will just download it , and NOT INSTALL IT ......and i DID NOT INSTALL IT , since after upgrading , it asked me if i wanted to install windows 8.1 , and i selected NO ..... my laptop turned off , and when i turned it on , now a black screen appears with the white cursor moving around the screen..... I click the Assist button , and i can't get a sony vaio care menu ..... Basically nothing displays , no configure ... I am stuck and can't use my laptop anymore

Oct 18, 2013I just installed 8.1 on my Samsung Series 7 Chronos laptop and it's now unusable. All I get after a reboot now is a blank screen and a vanishing cursor. I can't do CTRL+ALT+DEL or any other button combination. I also can't seem to be able to do a system restore as a restore point doesn't seem to exist for some odd reason. I've also tried the boot into low res mode but I get the same result. The only thing that seems to work is booting into Safe Mode with Networking but that doesn't allow me to install/uninstall anything so it's pretty much useless.

Jan 1, 2013The laptop I have is an ASUS g74, I purchased the copy of windows 8 from microsoft's site, upgrading from windows 7 pro. I opted to keep all my personal files/apps because the programs it warned me as being incompatible were random games and such.
I googled this problem, and it seemed fairly common months ago when windows 8 first came out on dell/HP laptops. It worked flawlessly when I first upgraded and booted up fine but once I restarted I couldn't see anything other than the screen occasionally flickering brighter and darker.
However, if I plug my laptop up to a TV with an HDMI cable I can see everything on the TV. It's just the laptop screen that is blank.

Feb 29, 2012I installed windows 8 to my machine. it has intel hd graphics. I can install it fine but once i try boot Windows 8 the screen goes black (screen is actually off). I can get it to work by plugging in a HDMI cable into thee hdmi slot and use a monitor. it works perfect like that but my laptop screen stays black. It must be the graphics driver. I tried updating the graphics driver and that didnt work. I then tried installing the driver from the dell site for Windows 7 and that didnt work.

Feb 25, 2014I am trying to install windows 8.1 on my old windows xp laptop using a bootable USB from the universal USB installer, and when i press f10 on my laptop, and tell it to boot from my USB, it pulls up a black screen with a blinking line(like a terminal). i tried pressing a bunch of keys, and the only one that i got a response from was the enter key, which made a beeping noise.should i use a different program to put the ISO on my USB?
I'm going to try a program that i used a long time ago when the UUI wasn't working called Rufus. I'll let you all know if it works. Also I'll set it to NTFS instead of fat32 and see if that works.

Dec 2, 2013Upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro from 8 through the Windows Store. Everything seemed to go smoothly. Updated graphics card drivers prior to install of 8.1. Now whenever I start up, I can log in, but then it goes to a black screen with a cursor. Ctrl-Alt-Del will bring up the task manager and from there I can access programs and get on the internet. So after maybe 5 minutes or so after opening a program (usually firefox) the Metro screen randomly loads. None of the store apps worked, though I was able to find a fix for that. Some of them still don't work right though. Is there a better way to upgrade from 8 other than through the store?

Jan 16, 2014I just reset my laptop and am upgrading to 8.1. This is the third time I have tried upgrading and every time it results in a blank black screen. I believe it has to do with video drivers. By a blank black screen I mean totally blank. There is no backlight and there is no cursor. I had this problem when it upgraded the intel graphics driver to the .3345 version so I went into safe mode and rolled it back. After the reset I uninstalled all intel graphics driver and used the microsoft driver. When I update to 8.1 I get the black screen even with this video driver. I will keep trying using the stable intel driver to see what happens.

I am trying to reinstall windows with the Dell windows 8 Home premium disk. When the disk finally loads, it just stays on a black screen, and I've left it for about an hour and it will not load.
I have tried using Hirens boot CD (USB) to load Mini windows xp, but that does exactly the same. I can load Linux from the usb but not windows. However, I have never used Linux so I cannot do anything in Linux to attempt to fix it, as I do not know what I'm doing inside Linux.

Aug 3, 2014I bought asus laptop k551ln-xx250h 2 months ago from Malasiya.It was fine bt 4 days ago it ran into a problem and started automatic repair.After waiting about an hour it started checking the c drive.Then the loop continued when i started my laptop.I tried to fix it by refreshing and reseting bt it didnt allowed me to do it.Then i used bootrec to fix it bt the result was same.Then I formatted the whole disk(1 tb) to have a fresh win 8.1 then i got a new serious problem.While installing the fresh 8.1 it stucks in starting the setup.I waited for about 2 hrs bt the screen shows the same message(starting the setup).Then i booted through usb bt the problem is same.Again i tried to install

Jan 20, 2013I just got a new laptop, a Lenovo X230, for which I paid extra to have the OS on it as Windows 8 Pro.
So--now I have it, and Win 8 Pro 64 is installed and activated on it. I am a legal owner of Win 8 Pro.
However, I would like to do a clean install of Win 8 on the computer, to have it free of bloatware, etc. (In fact, I would like to set up a multi-boot with Win 7, and perhaps even triple boot with Xp as well. (I have installation media and my product keys for XP and 7 though, so those are not really a problem.)
The computer came with no discs at all. There is a procedure to make recovery disks. I may do that, but I think those will be to restore the computer to how it came from the factory, and therefore not usable for a clean install.
I don't see my product key for Win 8 anywhere. Not on the computer, not on any kind of card that came with it, etc.
I looked at the tutorial here for clean install of Windows 8, but it requires an install disc and product key. I have neither, although I am a legal owner of Windows 8.
Is there a way I can create (from my installed Windows 8) a win 8 install disk, that can be used for a clean install? Or a link to download one? Is there a way I can get my product key?

After a while the following message appears "you cant install windows on a usb flash drive with setup"
I am not actually trying to install to a flash drive. I contacted Microsoft and after 5 hours they said that I should connect to the internet with a cable and not by wireless in order to solve the problem (this didn't work of course and I had told them that it was an install problem and not a download problem).

My intent was to run windows 8 off the 240 SSD as a primary and have a RAID 1 setup for my 2TB HDDs.
I learnt that my data configuration was set to AHCI. I decided to do a complete clean install and change the sata configuration in BIOS to RAID.
After successfully creating a RAID volume using my 2TB HDDs i proceeded to install Windows off my primary. I am however having difficulties in that it will not allow me to install windows on either drive.

Nov 20, 2012My PC was working fine before today, until I used Ultra UXtheme patcher for Windows 8 x64 and then applied a custom VS for Windows 8.
After a restart, Windows Explorer was not launching, so I opened task manager and did a sfc /scannow. After a reboot, I get to the Windows 8 boot menu (I have a dual-boot on this HDD with win7), and then the screen just turns on and off every few seconds, with the numlock light flickering with the screen.
I tried using the automatic repair, both from the boot menu and from a backup USB, but it does not detect anything. and I still have the same issue.
I restored the backups of uxtheme.dll, uxinit.dll, and themeui.dll, but that didn't work either.
Attached is my ntbtlog.txt.
There is no BSOD, the HDD keeps on spinning a few minutes after boot, and the numlock keeps on flashing. Anything else I can do from my win7 install? I'm currently trying to delete the theme.
Deleting the theme doesn't work, safemode doesn't work either. It seems to be a driver issue, but there were no driver updates when it was working?

Jan 1, 2014I have a Kingston SSDNow V200 128 GB SATA III 6 GB/s 2.5-Inch SSD I was using on my old Dell Precision 370. I now have a new Lenovo IdeaCenter K450 running Windows 8 X64 and I want to install the SSD in it.
This is what the drives look like now:
I want to clone the 1st 4 partitions plus the C: partition. I can reduce the size of my existing C: so everything will fit on the 128GB SSD. Anything I need to watch out for? I would think that cloning the existing setup should work. I will connect the SSD to the lowest SATA port, where the 2TB drive is now and move the other two drives up by one SATA port.

But when I try to boot with this USB-key on my older PC (which does not have UEFI), then before installing Windows it says that there is no HDD or partition Windows can be installed in? I can then boot again with USB-key select rep. PC, start cmd, change the HDD to GPT, then Windows can be installed, but then it can't boot from the HDD!!
How do I make a bootable USBkey with Windows 7 or Windows 8 that can be installed on an ordinary MBR HDD? I need to make it on my system running GPT SSD.
I have tried this:

and then copied my windows 8 dvd onto it.
It will boot, but Windows will only install on a GPT HDD.
What to do?
