I was installing the AMD beta driver and suddenly, black screen. It somehow restarted and I logged in, but I saw a black screen and after a few seconds, I was thrown back to the login screen. It was the same in safe mode! is there any way to uninstall the driver without a complete wipe? I don't want to start from the beginning again ...
View 1 RepliesMy windows 8 pro x64 was running normal until I added a logitech cordless rumblepad 2 which uses a USB receiver for the joypad, and after installing the drivers and plugging in windows 8 shows a black screen on first boot but boots normal after a warm reset, this happens every time I switch on until i do a warm reset.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI will try to post a dump file the next chance I have in getting into safe mode. I have an Asus CM6870-CA010S with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 card. It has been running like a dream since I got it in April, then I performed the 8.1 update, and innocently updated the drivers. Bad plan. For the past week I've fallen into the labyrinth of uninstalling the card, subsequent iterations of the drivers, clearing registries, performed the "Refresh," all after reading the forums here, on Nvidia's boards, anywhere I can get logical info.
I finally found what I thought was the perfect recipe, uninstalling totally in safe mode, deleting the folders orphaned from uninstalls, cleaning the registry, disabling Window's automatic downloads for drivers and hardware... etc. I had solid uptime for an hour, and I'm not a gamer, and hadn't yet tested my main objectives- Photoshop and Premiere. But HD video was great, and I finally thought I had it licked. Then, black screen. I have no BSODs. The system seems to shut down so fast that it doesn't have time to make dump files, and WhoCrashed.exe keeps pointing to nvlddmkm.sys as the culprit when a dump is made, with either pagefile or IRQL not less or equal errors. I'm so done.
After trying virtually every solid recommendation I can find, I'm about to throw in the towel and either get a whole other brand of graphics card, or take it to the super expensive judgmental hipster repair shop. This post is my last hope, and I'll try to get a dump file the next chance it gives me enough uptime to collect one- and getting into Safe Mode with F8 is seemingly very random.
I have recently installed windows updates and after restart the black screen occurred after I typed my password. About five days before that I have reinstalled my Mobile Intel 4 series driver and now in Device manager it shows 3 grayed out monitors which were installed when I have reinstalled the Video driver. The monitor driver that Is currently loaded was installed when I installed the OS itself.

But after that , all i have is a black screen. No matter if i swich it off through the switch butto in the laptop , it stills appears as black screen. View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 8.1 a few days ago and now I am having problem installing and updating driver software for any hardware. I tried downloading drivers with Windows update which gives error code 8007000d while installing after successfull download while other software updates install fine. Using device manager, it gives a error that windows found the driver but had problem installing it.
And finally, I tried to install it directly using executable but couldn't install. For instance, I tried to install AMD Catalyst software and everything in it installed except the drivers, catalyst control center, hydravision and every application software installed but just not the driver software. I also had problem with bluetooth software. All drivers installed fine when I installed the windows 8.1 but after few days, this problem began and now I am not able to install any of it. P.S. I tried all the measures to solve error 8007000d I found at the internet.
This is a Windows 8 OEM CD install, on an i7 x64 system. I have tried this with both UEFI and legacy modes.
I cleaned the drive and allowed setup to partition and format how it sees fit on an Intel SSD.
The system copies files, sets them up and reboots.
The blue windows logo is up for a minute, then the screen (not the PC) power cycles (probably due to a resolution change). It hangs there on a black screen. There is a mouse cursor that responds and the num lock toggles on the kb, but nothing else. CTRL-ALT-DEL does nothing.
I work at a hotel, and we are having issues with our public computer (Acer Aspire XC-603G desktop) connecting to the internet. As it seemed like an issue in the wall, I decided the easiest way to fix it would be to buy a wifi USB adapter (NETGEAR N300) and just use that instead. However, when I try to install the driver from the included CD, it keeps giving me an "access is denied" error.
The account I'm using says it has administrator privileges, though that's been giving me issues as well. The person who initially set up the computer only set up one account, which anyone could use. I added another, gave it the administrator rights, and removed them from the original. However, even though it says the new account is an administrator account, messages often pop up and say that I can't do what I'm trying to do because I only have standard privileges.
I have a client running Windows 8.1. The original problem was that he could not install an HP 6700 printer, the installer package failed every time. I got the same error; I attempted to update all his drivers and noticed that all the installers failed. I then attempted to install it manually and I get a failure: Windows found drivers software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. The data is invalid. I receive the same error if I try to install any driver the same way. Laptop is an Acer Aspire One running 8.1, there were no recovery discs made and all recovery options fail. Not sure where to go with this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have upgraded to 8.1 from 8(OEM) through the Store, when I tried to install the ELAN driver for 8.1 from Acer, installer says the driver installed but in device manager it shows only "PS2 compatible driver", the old driver works but it doesn't include "ETDctrl.exe" in Startup, I have to manually start it by going to Control Panel, HW and Mouse. Is there anyway I could make ETDctrl.exe start when windows start?
View 3 Replies View RelatedPrevious summer I upgraded my computer to a more up to date with 8GB RAM. Inevitably, I had to backup my data and install 64-bit version of Windows 7. I could install and use most of my devices, except an old Pinnacle Studio Pro analogue TV tuner PCI card. After some search, I managed to find custom 64-bit drivers fot BT848/BT878 cards and instructions of how to sign them, so I could use them in normal mode. After following the instructions the drivers worked fine in Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit! OK, the original application Pinnacle Vision didn't work since it looks exclusively for Pinnacle's own 32-bit driver, but I could use the card in Nero Vision, Pinnacle Studio Pro, VirtualDub etc.
How did the problem arised: I recently upgraded the computer to Windows 8 and then to 8.1 so I have the latest version. Some devices were replaced with Microsoft drivers and others were not installed. I downloaded latest OEM drivers and managed to make all devices work at their full potential again, except the Pinnacle TV tuner. I went to advanced startup options and loaded Windows 8.1 in the mode that ignores driver signature.
I then attempted to manually install the custom BT848 64-bit drivers from Device Manager, since there was no setup program. As you may know, the card appears as two devices in Device Manager. One for the video part and one for the audio part. The audio part completed sucessfully. But the video part displayed the message "Error 39: file not found". The same driver worked OK in Windows 7, so the missing files should be Windows 7 system files that are not present in Windows 8. Is there any way to see which files are these so I can copy them from a Windows 7 installation? How I can determine which file was not found when I see error 39? Is there a log file or what?

Since then I have had random black screen issues. At one point I reinstalled the OS, and they still occur. You may notice the R9 270 needs a 450W power supply at the least.
At first look you would think this is the problem, but it's not. Before the R9 270 I had an EVGA 750 Ti, which only uses like 60 watts of power or something, as well as a CM430W power supply, and the black screen issues still occurred.
First I returned the power supply for a CS450M, black screen still occurred. Then I returned the 750Ti for an r9 270, and the issue still occurs.
If it's not the graphics card, power supply, or OS, what should I do?
The dump file is attached. It blames NTOSKRNL.EXE, but I have no clue what this is or how to fix it.
I would like to delete obsolete drivers from the "update device driver" screen in the device manager. More specifically form the "I want to choose from a list of device drivers on my computer" screen. How to do this?

View 7 Replies View RelatedLast week my laptop had trouble starting up, it had a problem with atidvag.dll if I recall. I wasn't sure what to do but I got lucky and after a few attempts in managed to boot. Now however it doesn't even get to the point where it could tell me what is wrong, no Windows logo. Just straight in black screen with a cursor in the top left. F2 will take me to BIOS (if I am quick), but no other keys work. Booted onto installation media to try startup repair, no joy, rollback also no joy, tried using command line following the instructions here to force a boot into safe mode but no joy.

Now I'm stuck on a black screen with the Asus logo that reads "Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete."
It's been this way for multiple hours now. I'm going to leave it overnight and hope it repairs, but, if it doesn't, is there anyway to recover my files? I have some important stuff backed up online, but I haven't backed up in a bit over a month and I don't want to lose my files. Most forums tell me to reinstall Windows 8? Would that make me lose my files, though, and how can I do that if I can't get past this error page?
Recently I Recieved A Laptop in gift which I owned in the past which is A Dell XPS 15-L521X. It was running all good but suddenly Today morning when I pressed the power button and it boot through the Dell splash screen and after that It booted normal through the Windows 8 boot screen but after that It stucked at a Black Screen.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545, the screen is broke so I use an external monitor which doesn't project BIOS or Boot up so I cannot see anything. I found a thread on here that adds the Intel Graphics Driver for Mobile 4 Series for Windows 8 which I supposed would work on 8.1.

But as I restarted, the screen was blank. I tried cycling through projection modes as I usually do, but this time It didn't work.

I've tried booting into Safe Mode but as I've said, I cannot see anything on the screen so I'm not sure where I am.
Just had this new laptop running windows 8 and its an Acer.When I select the photos tile on the screen it goes to another screen which is black with a blue square icon and underneath it tells me that there are no files or folders in this view.There are photos in my picture folder as I just put then in.But if I go to the other method and select the My picture folder the photos are there.

Everytime or almost everytime I click on an app or go to the desktop and try to get on IE 10 (desktop version), my screen flashes and goes black for a few seconds then returns me to the screen with the space needle, then I click on it and it signs me back in. When I try to use Google Chrome, the websites freeze up on me. I don't want to have to reinstall/reformat as I paid $40 for this for one, and secondly, I don't want to have to repurchase Office 2010 as my licenses ran out. I ran every update that comes up and restart, but this doesn't change this issue. . why it does this and any way to fix it without reformatting?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed an OEM version of Windows 8 on a formatted, Active Primary partition on an external HDD. After approx 3 minutes into windows my screen went black. I had to hold down the power button to exit. Trying to boot back into Windows8 from the boot menu, Windows attempted to start with the circle going around, but again a few seconds later, black.
These are some of the solutions I have tried but to no avail:
...Tried a different partition on the same physical external HDD. (Note: previously I had created an additional partition on my computer's C: and installed.) Black.
...Updated Video Drivers
...Checked if the drive was activated (SLMGR.VBS /DLV, then /ATO (Activated)
...Did first, a "Refresh then a Reset (both took me into windows but a short time later, black)
...While Black I tried a Ctrl, Alt, Del attempting to get to the task manager, which did not work, thinking I could try an inline install from the DVD.
...Booted into Windows 8 Safe Mode (F8 from Windows 8 boot option).... this was ok. It kept me in Windows.
When reverting back to Window7, the File System on ALL drive partitions, Computer's C and all externals, had to be checked for consistency before Windows 7 would boot up. Not sure why but once my screen goes black in Windows 8 somehow all my other partitions, Computer and Externals, are compromised.
I just uninstall my AMD because it keeps crashing when I start a game that use it. But after that, I can't re-install AMD 7450/7650 graphic driver that was supplied by Dell for my laptop. I install it with custom installation and only check the AMD Display Driver and Catalyst Control Center. The CCC installed fine, but not with the display driver. On installation, it just kind of skipping 70% of the progress bar and I would get the "installation complete - warnings occurred during installation"
I can still see the old driver which is AMD 6600M and 6700M series in device manager. Whenever I tried to open CCC, it shows "AMD Catalyst Control Center cannot be started. There are currently no settings that can be configured using AMD CCC." Now I'm stuck using integrated Intel HD Graphic 3000.
My laptop is Dell Inspiron N4110
4GB RAM
Windows 8 Pro
Intel Core i5 2410 @2.3GHz x64bit
