Graphic Cards :: Win 8.1x64 / Nvidia Driver - Cycle Of Black Screen And Shutdowns

Jun 5, 2014

I will try to post a dump file the next chance I have in getting into safe mode. I have an Asus CM6870-CA010S with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 card. It has been running like a dream since I got it in April, then I performed the 8.1 update, and innocently updated the drivers. Bad plan. For the past week I've fallen into the labyrinth of uninstalling the card, subsequent iterations of the drivers, clearing registries, performed the "Refresh," all after reading the forums here, on Nvidia's boards, anywhere I can get logical info.

I finally found what I thought was the perfect recipe, uninstalling totally in safe mode, deleting the folders orphaned from uninstalls, cleaning the registry, disabling Window's automatic downloads for drivers and hardware... etc. I had solid uptime for an hour, and I'm not a gamer, and hadn't yet tested my main objectives- Photoshop and Premiere. But HD video was great, and I finally thought I had it licked. Then, black screen. I have no BSODs. The system seems to shut down so fast that it doesn't have time to make dump files, and WhoCrashed.exe keeps pointing to nvlddmkm.sys as the culprit when a dump is made, with either pagefile or IRQL not less or equal errors. I'm so done.

After trying virtually every solid recommendation I can find, I'm about to throw in the towel and either get a whole other brand of graphics card, or take it to the super expensive judgmental hipster repair shop. This post is my last hope, and I'll try to get a dump file the next chance it gives me enough uptime to collect one- and getting into Safe Mode with F8 is seemingly very random.

Graphic Cards :: Can't Install Any Nvidia Driver (various Errors)

May 18, 2014

Yesterday I was playing Dota 2 when suddenly I got a black screen and "display driver has stopped working and has recovered."

Right after, I tried to open the game again. There was no way of getting it working.

Any other game was also not working. The first thing I did was, of course, trying to reinstall the driver.

I tried to install the lastest driver (337.50 beta) and I got only "installer has failed". I also tried with many other older drivers and such, with no result.

Other things I tried:

Clean install (from custom install options)Hard clean install (Deleting all nvidia files before)Display Driver Uninstaller safe mode + reboot and install (same error)Install in safe mode (installer error)Register again WMI files (nothing changed). Take ownership of various folders containing drivers (nothing changed)Directly install INF files using devmgmt (gives error code 28) Changing some registry values regarding vbscript that fixed it for other people. Use Windows Update. "1 update was not installed" + error 80070002sfc /scannowRollback from devmgmtRestore to a early system point where it was working (couldn't restore, no matter what point I choose)

Nothing worked. It just won't install. Now I'm stuck with Microsoft base driver and can't play anything.

Here's the installer log, the only part with errors: Log (full log attached)

Event viewer shows nothing.

My system specs: CPU-Z Validator 4.0

I think it's probably a miracle if I get this working without refresh/reinstall Windows.

Graphic Cards :: Windows 8 Black Screen - No Signal To Display

Jun 2, 2013

For last couple days I've been going through a minor computer issue. I wasn't doing anything special, I just turned the computer off. And the next day the problem occured; After bios and Windows 8 loading screen ( the little dots going round, just below the windows 8 icon ) my screen goes black and there's no signal to the display. I've already tried formatting my hdd and installing windows 8, also tried doing Reset option, from the Windows 8 troubleshot system. I can't access my Safe Mode, because it tells that Windows can't finish the installation in safe mode ( After installing the new system I format all the data and it goes just fine until the windows icon and "Preparin your devices" sign. It goes 100% and gets black again.

Graphic Cards :: Fresh Windows 8 - Computer Shutdown And Reboots With Black Screen

Dec 22, 2013

My computer randomly shutdowns when I use it for a while maybe 2hrs or 3, reboots by itselfs and windows cannot boot back, getting a black screen and nothing happens, So i manually turn it off and turn it on again to make it work. Sometimes it doesn't even want to work, black screen after multiple reboots So i need to syster restore it, sometimes that also doesn't work and i need to reset it completely.

At first i thought it was the new drivers i installed for my nvidea geforce gt640, the 331 version. I heard it was making pcs crash like mine does, so i downgraded the driver to 306 and it works for longer but the crash happened once again after a while, and after a windows 8 reset (deleted everything and reinstalled by itself). So this is a fresh Windows 8 i believe but still does crash.

After the crash that happened tonight, i restarted my pc and realised one of my fan in my pc is going extremely fast at random times but not for long. I went closer to hear which one was doing that and it seems to be the fan on my video card, I also touched my card and its very HOTTTTTT close to burning my hand ".".

My pc has been cleaned yesterday by my step dad, had lots of dust, even in the video cards fan, but now is clean and still overheating. Using a 350W PS which i heard is not really good and that i should upgrade really soon.
CPU Temp is fine, all fans are working properly, I believe my video card is broken or my PS not giving it enough power or something?

The auto reboots are annoying, making me have to restore every time and sometimes reset Windows 8. It seems to only happen when i do lots of stuff at once like mixing via audacity and having x2 perfect world clients up, plus radio streaming live.

Graphic Cards :: NVidia GeForce 640GT Using 25% Of System RAM

Aug 24, 2013

I have a 2GB GeForce 640GT video card. It has 2GB onboard and windows 8 is using an additional 2GB of ram for it. I don't do gaming or heavy rendering. Occasionally I use google earth and a few other 3d mapping apps. I don't see how any of these need 4GB of ram to do this. This 2GB of system memory is 25% of my entire system memory. This card, in an older PC used no system memory under Windows 7.

How can I reclaim this ram? If I cannot, and add more ram will it take even more of that?

nVidia says this is a windows issue and not a driver issue but I cannot find anywhere in windows to tune or change this.

See the attached System Information from the nVidia control panel.

Graphic Cards :: Removal Of Nvidia Drivers - Desktop Right Click Takes 15 Seconds?

Oct 19, 2013

I bought myself a Radeon HD 7770 a few months back to replace an old GeForce 9600GT. A few weeks after installing the AMD card, I was going through my programs cleaning out old files and decided to remove all the Nvidia stuff. I removed the drivers and stuff and upon reboot, my computer would no longer boot to the desktop. I ended up having to use system restore to get the computer working again...

Fast forward to yesterday. I upgraded from Windows 8 Pro with Media Center to Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center, and I started experiencing the same problem listed here: "Win 8.1 desktop right click takes 15 seconds!" I tried the same solution that was found and it did not work for me. My guess is it had something to do with the Nvidia driver software still being installed on my computer. So I again attempted to remove the drivers. At this point I couldn't even remove the Nvidia software as nothing happened when I pressed the uninstall button. I ended up having to reinsert the Nvidia card, and reinstall the drivers, in order to uninstall the drivers. After I restarted and reinstalled the AMD card, the computer, like before would no longer boot to the desktop. All I would get was a mouse pointer that would appear and disappear every couple of seconds and a Number lock button on the keyboard that would be turning on and off at the same interval. If I reinsert the Nvidia card the problem goes away, but obviously I don't want to keep the old card in my computer.

My question is: Why would the computer boot with the Nvidia card when the Nvidia drivers are uninstalled and yet not boot with the AMD card when the AMD drivers ARE installed?

Graphic Cards :: Asus GTX 670 DC - Monitor Goes Black Sometimes

Apr 11, 2014

I have 3 monitors, BenQ RL2450, two of them via DVI and one via HDMI.

Issue, HDMI connected monitor goes black every now and then. Not really a pattern in it. Sometimes it can flicker black once every 5 min, sometimes once every 30 minutes. Monitors are ok, checked with other computers, cables are OK, tested on different monitors and HDMI on TV.

I am suspecting drivers, so did a complete uninstall with graphic removal tool, then installed latest WHQL and beta drivers, still the same. Seen several users with the same issue, but no solution.

Graphic card keeps 40-50 Celsius while gaming, so that's not the issue.

Just can't remember back when I did not have this issue, hasn't been there forever.

All monitors on 60Hz, and with the same resolution.

Graphic Cards :: Driver Update Failed?

May 28, 2013

So I've been trying to update my graphics card. Before I ever got the notification for the update and tried to install it, I could play minecraft, and star craft, and watch Netflix video. When I did install, and was given the failed due to I/O error box, I couldn't play any games or watch any Netflix. Don't know what to do to fix this. Since, I've gone to my manufacturers website and re-installed my driver, but I think the real problem is seeing how I cant connect it. It always says it failed due to the I/O error, so I cant connect it to the video card or something.

My computer is a Toshiba. other info:

Model: Satellite L875DProcessor: AMD A6-4400M APU with Radeon(TM) HD Graphics 2.70 GHzPlenty of RAM (only 5 month old computer)

In Device Manager under Display Adapters It says Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. I just need to know how to change it. I've gone in through device manager, pressed update driver, chose to do it manually and choose a signed driver. When I choose My AMD Radeon Drive and it attempts to install, it always says it failed due to an I/O error. This has been going on for a week or so, and I thought I could fix it, but nothing works.

Graphic Cards :: GTX 780M - Driver Not Working?

Jul 22, 2014

I had opened up GeForce Experience and automatically updated my graphic drivers. The updater crashed while updating.Tried to update again and it gave me the message saying my driver was up to date no need to update.Opened up Steam and tried to play a few games and they all crashed. I also noticed games outside steam were very sluggish.I checked device manager and only my onboard video card was shown. My high performance card was no longer listed under display.

So I uninstalled GeForce experience and the driver then reinstalled an earlier driver version (I could just install the previous version and it should 'roll back').Same problem, my games would crash and things were slow.Removed those drivers and reinstalled earlier ones.Rinse and repeat removing and installing different version drivers 3 times. After being advised not to use GeForce Experience to update my drivers and to go to the manufacturer website I did so. I removed my current video driver and installed the one I downloaded from manufacturer.

Throughout this whole event certain drivers make my video card not appear in device manager and require me to install a different driver on it to get the card to display. Everything worked 100% fine until GeForce Experience crashed on me.

Currently; my video card is shown in device manager the driver seems to be installed and my games do in fact work. The problem is the FPS rate is extremely low. Before this issue I was having around 240 FPS inside certain steam games which I'm now getting 80. Before I updated the graphics driver my entire laptop worked extremely well and I've yet to have any issues. With that being said; I believe that if I could completely uninstall the graphic driver and reinstall the one I had before all this mess occurred things would be back to norm.

How to figure out what version I used to have and I'm not so sure I'm uninstalling the driver completely. (I'm in device manager just selecting uninstall) I'm willing to roll back my laptop a few days but I do not have restore point created. Maybe the driver is not installed correctly?

A different way to uninstall the driver or maybe a way to freshly install the video card, I don't know. Any simple way to restore my laptop to the way it was when I got it I'm willing to do that as a last resort. Everything I have is backed up.

CPU. i7-4700MQ

Graphic Cards :: Possible To Use WDDM 1.2 Driver For Windows 8?

Apr 5, 2013

I have to reinstall Windows 8 on my laptop for some reason. So after installation finished I went to Device Manager for Installing Drivers. After all the other drivers like Chipset, Network, Audio etc, I went to the Install the Display Driver. There I noticed that under the Display tab my NVIDIA GT 650M is already listed but usually if any Device driver is not installed then it will be shown as Unknown Device or Standard VGA Adapter. But here it shows that it is working and one more Thing I noticed is that in the display tab it was written:-

NVIDIA GT 650M (Microsoft Corporation-WDDM 1.2)

So my question is that should I install the NVIDIA driver from my ASUS Driver And Software Utility Disk or should I keep it as it is? I have heard somewhere that WDDM drivers works better than any other Driver with Windows 8. Is it true? I didn't get any Performance Fall or any BSODs etc and games are also working.

Graphic Cards :: Monitor With Black Bars - HDMI To VGA Adapter

Sep 5, 2013

Well I have been having issues with my monitor. I had a Toshiba laptop I had hooked up to my monitor, everything worked great. It then crashed, I got a new Dell with Windows 8 64bit and Intel graphics. I have an HDMI to VGA adapter cause my laptop doesn't have a VGA port and monitor doesn't have HDMI. So I hook it up and get it to work but "Input Not Supported" was floating around the screen.

So I changed the resolution. The only resolution that makes the "Input Not Supported" to go away is 1600X200. Well its clear picture but I have the annoying black bars on the side of my screen. I have looked around and everyone says to go to the CCC but I can't find it on here and from what I understand that is for AMD only(if I'm mistaken how to make it work cause I have attempted it). So is there an Intel version or how do I fix it?
