Setup Installation :: How To Install Win 8 On Mac Using Bootcamp With A Key
Dec 29, 2013
I am using bootcamp to run windows 7 on my mac. I recently used the windows 8 upgrade assistant to purchase windows 8. I received a product key and an .iso file but I decided to wait until a upgraded. Today my windows 7 crashed and I am unable to boot windows 7 anymore and i have a 'Missing Operating System' error. I have tried to recover windows 7 without success. So my question is: Can I install windows 8 on my mac through bootcamp by using a purchased upgrade key and if so how would i do it? I only have the windows 8 pro upgrade key which I had a backup of before the crash and i do not have the .iso file. Also would I still be able to use the upgrade key even though I am unable to access windows 7?

So I'm using a late 2012 iMAC running bootcamp with Win 8 64 bit system builder version. I just installed the OS hours ago and have already run into BSOD problems, I was directed to these forums and post before I try to do anything else and cause more issues. Every time my computer powers back up from going to sleep it crashes and gives me a system error for memory exception and shows the file name igdkmd64.sys. Like I said before long time apple user that started using windows again.

I just got a new laptop, a Lenovo X230, for which I paid extra to have the OS on it as Windows 8 Pro.
So--now I have it, and Win 8 Pro 64 is installed and activated on it. I am a legal owner of Win 8 Pro.
However, I would like to do a clean install of Win 8 on the computer, to have it free of bloatware, etc. (In fact, I would like to set up a multi-boot with Win 7, and perhaps even triple boot with Xp as well. (I have installation media and my product keys for XP and 7 though, so those are not really a problem.)
The computer came with no discs at all. There is a procedure to make recovery disks. I may do that, but I think those will be to restore the computer to how it came from the factory, and therefore not usable for a clean install.
I don't see my product key for Win 8 anywhere. Not on the computer, not on any kind of card that came with it, etc.
I looked at the tutorial here for clean install of Windows 8, but it requires an install disc and product key. I have neither, although I am a legal owner of Windows 8.
Is there a way I can create (from my installed Windows 8) a win 8 install disk, that can be used for a clean install? Or a link to download one? Is there a way I can get my product key?

I am trying to upgrade from windows 8 pro to windows 8.1 on a samsung laptop. The download completes and installation starts.
After a while the following message appears "you cant install windows on a usb flash drive with setup"
I am not actually trying to install to a flash drive. I contacted Microsoft and after 5 hours they said that I should connect to the internet with a cable and not by wireless in order to solve the problem (this didn't work of course and I had told them that it was an install problem and not a download problem).

Until very recently i was running Windows 8 with a 240 GB Sandisk SSD as a primary and a 2 TB Western Digital Green HDD as a storage. I decided to set up a RAID 1 setup so i purchased a second 2 TB HDD and installed it.
My intent was to run windows 8 off the 240 SSD as a primary and have a RAID 1 setup for my 2TB HDDs.
I learnt that my data configuration was set to AHCI. I decided to do a complete clean install and change the sata configuration in BIOS to RAID.
After successfully creating a RAID volume using my 2TB HDDs i proceeded to install Windows off my primary. I am however having difficulties in that it will not allow me to install windows on either drive.

I'm installed Windows 8 on my desktop. The Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant indicates that this software will install OK. It was NOT flagged as a problem.
However, when I went to install it, there were warnings that it wasn't supported and when I try it, I get errors about the registry.
How to use VB.NET, I don't understand it, and I'm used to VB 6.0. Is there a way to use VB 6 in Windows 8?

My laptop originally had Windows 8 installed on it on an SSD and an HDD. I have since wiped the drive clean. But now, I need to get Windows 8 back for work. How can I replicate the original layout with Windows 8 being put on both a SSD and a HDD. The nature of my work involves a lot of CAD software usage for projects as well as research and the like. As such, I would like for such software to be located on my SSD for faster speeds.

I have a Kingston SSDNow V200 128 GB SATA III 6 GB/s 2.5-Inch SSD I was using on my old Dell Precision 370. I now have a new Lenovo IdeaCenter K450 running Windows 8 X64 and I want to install the SSD in it.
This is what the drives look like now:
I want to clone the 1st 4 partitions plus the C: partition. I can reduce the size of my existing C: so everything will fit on the 128GB SSD. Anything I need to watch out for? I would think that cloning the existing setup should work. I will connect the SSD to the lowest SATA port, where the 2TB drive is now and move the other two drives up by one SATA port.

I'm running Windows 8.1 on an UEFI system, clean installed from my USB-key created with Rufus. But when I try to boot with this USB-key on my older PC (which does not have UEFI), then before installing Windows it says that there is no HDD or partition Windows can be installed in? I can then boot again with USB-key select rep. PC, start cmd, change the HDD to GPT, then Windows can be installed, but then it can't boot from the HDD!!
How do I make a bootable USBkey with Windows 7 or Windows 8 that can be installed on an ordinary MBR HDD? I need to make it on my system running GPT SSD.
I have tried this:
CMD (elevated)
diskpart
list disk
select disk (selected my USB)
clean
create partition primary
active
assign
exit
and then copied my windows 8 dvd onto it.
It will boot, but Windows will only install on a GPT HDD.
What to do?

I was able to start the install of 8.1 Preview directly from the downloaded .iso file. Just double clicked on it to open in Windows Explorer then double clicked on setup.exe and off it went. This only works from a booted Windows 8 system (not sure about Windows 7).
[URL] .....
Didn't need to create a bootable flash drive or DVD.

I have recently purchased Windows 8 Pro Upgrade and for Christmas I will be getting my first SSD.
I want to do a clean install of 8.1 via USB, is this possible with the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade key? I have read through numerous tutorials and think I've got it right but just want some to clarify this will work.
Download the 8.1 ISO
Use the generic key to run the installer
Setup the PC
Open PC Settings
Change Product Key enter Win 8 Pro (upgrade) key and activate
Do I then need to do the reg edit and command prompt changes? Regedit - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE Command prompt - slmgr /rearm Do I have this right or am I missing something?

Tried numerous times to install the update but keeps hanging when at "Applying PC Settings". It usually stops at around 84%, eventually the screen will go black only showing the cursor then finally it shows the bsod. The bsod says: driver power state failure.

I already have a Windows 8 Pro USB installer setup but I don't think it can be used to do a repair install for my Windows 8.1 Pro upgrade. So I'm trying to create a new USB installer setup specifically for Win 8.1 Pro. However, the Windows 8.1 setup window is not accepting the 8.1 Product Key that I extracted from Belarc, ProduKey and WPkey. Is there a way to get around that issue so that I can create the Win 8.1 USB installer?

I have Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate installed and activated. I am trying to upgrade to Windows 8 and the upgrade assistant tells me it needs at least 2gb when I have 8gb and Windows 7 sees and knows I have 8gb
I am thinking it could be my bios, but it's already at the latest version
Here are some photos from my bios, so you can tell me if there is anything I need to enable.
These are photos from my bios. I need to change to get this to work.

I'm trying to get back up and running. It's a Toshiba laptop that came with Windows 8 with it, obviously UEFI and an embedded key.The person that was using it said it started to act up a week before it fully crashed. Afterwards, it wouldn't boot up, it would either BSOD with an error code I found pertaining to a graphics driver error, or stay on a blue screen with nothing on it and then restart and go through an endless Automatic Repair loop with no success. I check the logs and Windows checked EVERYTHING but couldn't find the issue why it wasn't booting. Did chkdsk, bootrec repair, offline sfc scan, STD scan, tried refresh/reset but the drive was apparently locked, couldn't do a system restore as there weren't any restore points, tried doing startup repair four times; nothing worked.
So I decided it would have to be wiped and reinstalled with 8.1. Thought it would be an easy process. I used the vbs script to show the OEM key to activate Windows once I was up and running with 8.1. OK, but for some reason the key looked familiar. Keyed in the key, it didn't work. So I wiped that hard drive with Windows 8.0, ran the vbs script, SAME key of Windows 8 Pro as before. Odd. I already tried converting the 8.1 Core OEM I previously installed to 8.1 Pro and tried that key, still nothing.
Then I checked the key on the interwebs, XKY4K-2NRWR-8F6P2-448RF-CRYQH, the reason why it looked so familiar is because it's a generic install key for Windows 8/8.1! This isn't the OEM key at all!
I deploy Windows with a custom 8.1 .wim image and have used this several times already and I THINK I might have that key used originally to install Windows into my virtual machine I have going for it. My thinking was that I might have used sysprep one too many times, but that doesn't explain why even with the plain Windows 8 AND 8.1 Core images why the key that's being detected is a generic install key.

using the UEFI install instructions from this forum. I do meet all of the requirements (Windows 8 64-bit iso, ASRock Z87 Extreme4 mobo, blank SSD). When I get to Step 7 in the UEFI guide, I only get 2 partitions instead of the 4 shown(Recovery, System, MSR, Primary). I only get System and Primary. I decided to delete all partitions and just run the setup on the unallocated drive...everything worked fine. I am just wondering what the consequences are of not having those 4 partitions. I still have the UEFI interface when I boot up so it appear that is working.

I recently built a rig (spec below) and originally installed windows 7.
I decided today I would install windows 8.1 as I get it for free from my university. I booted the installation disc in EFI mode, wiped the SSD and deleted all partitions. I let windows create the partitions it needs and proceeded to install.
The installation got up to 2% in expanding windows files and showed error:
Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure that all files required for installation are available and restart the installation. Error code: 0x800070570.
I rebooted and tried again several times and the same thing happened whether I chose EFI cd boot or not.
I then reinstalled windows 7 without any issues, and downloaded an 8.1 pro disc image from mydigitallife. The installation got a little further into expanding windows files, but the same error came up again.
Ive been reading that it may be a memory issue so i'm the process of reinstalling windows 7 and running memtest86+, but I doubt this is the case as its a mew system and windows 7 has no trouble
System Spec:
Mobo: Asus P8 Z77-V LX2
CPU: Intel i7 2600k (no overclock)
RAM: Crucial 8GB DDR3 1600mhz (one module)
GPU: GeForce 650Ti

I am trying to install the Windows 8 DVD over the current XP OS, but in MyComputer, the DVD Drive isn't listed in the tree view. Device manager says it's installed properly and functioning well. My Q is this: how do I run the installation DVD from the DVD drive using the Command Prompt. On Windows Start-up I hit F12 to access the boot order, and when I arrowed down to the DVD drive and hit ENTER, Windows would just jump straight to the XP start-up process. It's like something won't let me access the DVD Drive.

Acer laptop already has Windows 8.1 installed. It has a MBR disk. My USB Flash Drive won't boot from it but it does my my desktop so not the USB flash drive. The flash drive was created for UEFI or MBR boot using Rufus. I tried the tutorial in sevenforums to convert the Acer to GPT but it says the boot drive is in use and can't. I tried to boot to a Command Prompt but that gives me an X: drive and I can't change it to C prompt. I have done this before from a boot drive and it worked but won't on this machine. How can I get this converted from MBR to GPT??? How can they make that tutorial work for them? They are doing it from within windows there??? This machine BIOS has nothing for legacy or UEFI or secure boot for sure. Is my only option MBR then? If it is what do I make the flash drive with as Rufus option says for UEFI or MBR but won't boot this machine. Yes I have it to boot first but it lights up but goes straight to windows.

Every time I install (Pro Disk) when it finishes and restats, it goes right back to the beginning of the install Once I can get it installed, once the first screen spins, it stays black, but if I sleep and wake it, it goes right to the sign in screen-weird.
Then, it says no updates have been searched or ever installed, when I search I get the Error Code 80248007 cannot update.

We got a nice Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook and all it needed was a hard drive. Now.. here's the problem.. I'm good with a screwdriver or a soldering iron but software isn't my strong point.
It's a genuine Windows 8 machine and as I understand it, it will have the genuine COA embedded in the bios right?
Now I've tried installing Windows 8.0 64bit OEM which I believe is the correct uk ISO, and I've tried the Pro version also but with both, neither seem to pick up the embedded COA and therefor do not activate.
Am I correct in thinking that it might be because I have to use CSM mode in the bios to get it to recognise my installation media? If I had a UEFI version would it make any difference?

I read about how to upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit with clean install. I have a 32bit win7 on my desktop and a 64 bit Windows 8.1 on my laptop.
My question is can I use the Windows 8.1 laptop do download the upgrade assistant and get Windows 8 64 bit? I don't want to screw up my laptop especially cause it has an OEM Windows 8 that how to reinstall in case of OS breakdown.
In case this is not possible, is there any way to get a 64 bit Windows 8 upgrade downloaded without another 64 bit os already installed?

When first I tried to install a fresh copy of windows 8, I deleted all the partitions including systems reserved etc
Now It shows 2 drives where both of the drives are now currently unallocated and are ready to create fresh partition:
Drive 0 - 500GB HDD <== This is where I want to install my windows
Drive 1 - 20GB SSD <== This is where the system is creating the system partition
When ever I create the partition in either drives the windows create the system partition (350MB) in ssd automatically. and when I install my windows on 500 HDD then windows wont work because the systems files are on other drive. Furthermore, I dont want to install my windows on ssd because of the limited space. So How can I install my windows in 500GB HDD so it creates the system partition also in the same drive i.e. drive 0 - 500GB HDD
NOTE: I have tried everything using diskpart and making the drive 0 active but still its not working. I dont want to send it to Samsung warranty because they are charging me like $100
