View 1 Repliesthis evening i upgraded my Windows 7 i used for Gaming to Windows 8.1 It only had 5-6 Games installed and rarely was on the Internet, so i thought the upgrade would go fast and easy.
But since the upgrade (all updates in Windows 8.1 are already done), WMP does not read any MP3 File anymore. He just tells me "Unkown Artist, Unkwon Album" for every title...
Did Microsoft removed the Feature for MP3 Tags in WMP?
Because i also have FLAC Music, i installed WMP Tag Plus Extension and now he is able to read FLAC Extensions fine, but still no MP3 and WMP Tag Plus tells me that he doesnt want to Support it as WMP natively supports MP3 Tags
DVD rom isn't reading any disks, i have a ASUS drw-24b1st. I checked my device manager and it has an exclamation on the dvd-rom. I tried to run FIX IT but it isn't compatible for windows 8.1.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been burning some dvds and loaded in the next dvd to burn and it the drive couldnt see that there was a disc put in. So I thought maybe the dvd was faulty and tried a few more - the dvd rw drive didnt read that there were blank dvds put in. So I put a dvd that was finished burning in and still nothing.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been running 8.1 for a while - after a major crash a couple months back where I had to re-install the entire operating system, that has not happened again - but the computer does crash/re-boot itself fairly regularly. Luckily reboots are fast and painless. I have done a dump with SF that I will attach.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 and started getting a whole bunch of Event Log Errors. Today I downloaded and installed new drivers for Windows 8.1 that were posted on the ASRock site dated 10/25/2013. Much to my surprise the new drivers actually made most of the Event Log Errors go away - at least for now!
The first one is the Event ID 257, Defrag Error. I did a fresh install of Windows 8 and let it setup the SSD with the three partitions - Recover Partition, EFI System Partition and the Windows 8 Partition. I use Acronis 2013 to back up the SSD on a regular basis! For some reason Windows 8.1 wants to Defrag a partition on the SSD? What do I have to change to make the Event Log Error stop. What have I done to cause the problem?
The second one is the Event ID 10016, DistributedCom Error. I have Googled/Binged and have come up with what appears to be, at least for a novice, convoluted procedures to fix. Is there a real straight forward detailed instruction on how to go about changing whatever it is that needs to be changed to fix the error. Again, what did I do to the system to make this error happen?
I'm real close to a system that might be Event Log Error free (at least for a moment) if that is possible.
I've been getting errors everytime that I open a program (ANY and EVERY program). When booted into safe mode I'm not getting any errors. Here's some pictures of me opening google chrome, skype, and Windows Media Player.
It seems to be the exact same error for all of them and the only program that DOESNT seem to give me the error is paint. As soon as I click "ok", the program opens like normal but this is incredibly annoying.
This error started immediately after I installed Windows 8 from Windows 7, I might add.
BSOD...have always been something that I have gotten since I was a little kid and for the most part driver updates have always been the reason. Now that I am in the computer field though I think it's time I learn how to actually diagnose and resolve BSOD errors for others. Where can I start in learning about BSODs?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn the Windows XP-times we had a program called "bootvis.exe" that was really good finding programs, drivers aso that kept WinXP from booting fast.
Is there a program like that for windows 8.1?If not, how do I find the thing that keep my boottime on 43 sec from a Samsung 840EVO? (Boottime is WITHOUT POST-time!!)After about 9 seconds in the boot-process, the screen turns black, and all HDD-activity stops. A very tiny blink about every 7 seconds for the next 30 seconds, and then the Welcome-screen is shown, and boot continues normally.
I have tried to uninstall Bitdefender, no difference
I have tried to disconnect all USB except mouse and keyboard, no difference.
I have looked for new BIOS (there is none), new drivers for the complete PC, no difference.
What can I do to track this error down? To me it looks like Windows is waiting for something, that after a while times out ... but what is it? And how do I find it?
Firstly I created a partition of 1 GB on my 128GB OCZ Agility 3
Then I used bitlocker to encrypt it, and then for some reason when I tried to reboot the computer after doing the aforementioned, I get the message that windows cant boot, because the boot configuration is missing or conatins errors
I dont see how BitLocker and Disk Management can screw something up so much so that they either deleted or encrypted my boot config rendering me unable to boot up the computer.
What I did was shrinking the c:drive by 1000mb then formatted and partitioned those 1000 mb into a new drive. Secondly I encrypted the 1gig with Bitlocker with a short 12-character password.
I am now unable to boot up my laptop.
I have loads of DCOM errors in Windows 8.1
"The server {9BA05972-F6A8-11CF-A442-00A0C90A8F39} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout."
Its filling out my logs a symptom is a sluggish computer.
I'm running Windows 8. 3 days ago my computer crashed coming up with a message that it needed to restart. It then came up with a message "Repairing disk errors. This may take over an hour", and continued to display that message for 3 days straight. Now it has gone to a Boot Menu. The menu displays two tabs Boot Menu/App Menu, with the options under Boot Menu
1. Windows Boot Manager
2. SATA HDD: Hitachi
I selected Windows boot manager, and the screen went black for a few seconds then went back to the same menu. What has happened and how do I get back to Windows??
Usually occurring when I'm gaming, however I've also more recently been having them watching youtube videos, or just browsing.
Resolving the problem has been methodical... usually the PC appears to not be using the potential of it's graphics card, noted by a poor performance while playing games, and 3DMark tests. After restarting the computer, the scores and frame-rate increase dramatically.
After a bluescreen has occurred(various) the graphics card once again receives low scores, as if there were not graphics card installed, once or twice after a bluescreen, the wireless drivers failed to discover any networks, requiring another additional restart to restore their function..
The bluescreens include, but are not limited to:
NTF_FILE_SYSTEM(NFTS.sys)
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL [both with and without the additional](dxgmmsl.sys)
DRIVER_ORVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 8.1 installed on my Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5531 Laptop.
I have had this issue for a while now, but never really thought about it.
Every time I log in on my account (and ONLY mine), as the screen is saying "Welcome" and the dot circle is spinning, I get a short screen flicker. It only happens once, and ONLY when I'm logging in.
My friend's Sony Vaio laptop is giving keyboard errors - substituting the incorrect characters when typing.
For example if I type the name "George" it comes out "Ge6rge".
When I connected an external keyboard it worked fine. I know that there are ways to re-map keyboard keys. But if that was what was going on here, wouldn't it also affect the external keyboard?
I recently noticed that my windows was not able to update properly and few updates are failing on a daily basis.. screen shot showing the updates-

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have multiple BSOD errors..
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I got myself a new computer not long ago, and I had some issues with the windows install that gave me 5-6 bsod a day atleast. Managed to fix that issue eventually, but lately it started to pop up with the same thing again, everything from MEMORY_MANAGEMENT to KERNEL_ERROR.
Latest one was DL/DI.DLL
It can happen during playing games, watching videos on youtube, or even idle.
I have run sfc /scannow on my system to find if there were any bad files. It comes up and says that it had found bad files and could not repair all of them. Ive run it three or four times in a row and always get the same result.
how I can get this to go all the way through?
Last night I started having problems using the internet on this computer. YouTube will stop playing. (I have a 30/5mbit connection) Pages that require SSL will give an error in opera or will just display completely blank in Firefox. Downloads do not complete or are corrupted when they finish ten minutes later for small files. I tried to download Firefox six different times to see if it was Opera before I gave up and used a USB drive to get it from my laptop. Also, most interestingly, JPG images become corrupted. There are some screenshots down lower.
-speedtest.net comes back at appropriate speed
-SSL test comes back passed every time
-SSL not disabled in either browser
-pages that have a load process like gmail never finish
-uploads fail - like the images here took multiple tries and the JPG corruption screenshot never uploaded. After I posted this it showed up.
-my PC is hardwired into the router, but the laptop and all smart phones can use the internet flawlessly
I keep Avast up to date and comes back clean after a scan. I use the windows firewall but windows defender is disabled. Browsers are on the exception list here. All drivers are up to date. There has been no recent driver installs or new programs downloaded. I also know what type of sites will get me spyware or malware, I have plugins on my browsers, and I am the only user of this PC.
