Google Search Display Errors On Windows 8.1?
Oct 19, 2013Have upgraded to 8.1. Now when I navigate to Google in IE11 and enter a search, the results are displayed in single words all down the left hand side of the screen, like so:

Mar 11, 2014I just bought this new Asus VivoTab Smart. The MS Windows Explorer works fine, it was already on the Start screen. I added 2 ordinary Google search engines, (one in the UK) to the Start screen. (Neither was a Google Chrome). When I try to use either one of them I get this message: "There is a problem with the website's security certificate". Now I have the same thing on my laptop & have had no such problem with them. This is Windows 8.

Google Search Loading In Legacy Mode?

In all three browsers Google Search is loading in its old mode (with the black bar, and no news/calculator/video search functionality). I have tried just about everything at this point and simply cannot figure out what is wrong.

Whenever I search in Google I get the local google.rs, and a little box pops up on the right giving me an option to "Switch to English".
Now, I work from home, so I'm online all day and I search on Google quite a lot. I do not want to change my search engine, if I can fix the problem.
The problem is that I do not want it to keep redirecting to the local .rs google search engine, and then ask me every time if I want to switch to English or keep the local language. It's annoying, it wastes my time, and I've noticed that a lot of times if I change it to English it actually displays different results than it does if I let it search with the local .rs google search engine.
Any way to change this gestapo setting and make it Always search the English search engine?

Windows 8 Search Won't Search Control Panel Items
Nov 9, 2013Windows 8 search refuses to search items in my control panel. For example, if I tap the windows key and type "power options" or "Sound" I get nothing. I'm pretty sure this is supposed to work as it's mentioned in many of Microsoft's own documents as the easiest way to navigate to these settings.
Other searches are working, including files on secondary drives, etc.
Start Screen Search Won't Search IE Favorites Websites
Apr 8, 2013It seems I have to open File Explorer and use the search box there to search the contents of my IE Favorites folder. Is there anyway to add the same capability to the Start Screen Search. So far all I can do is put in the word "favorites" and start screen search finds the Favorites folder but it can't find any of the internet shortcuts (*.url files) within the Favorites folder. Is this normal? If so how can I change the normal behavior so it works like the start button search from Vista and Win7?

Windows 8.1 Event Log Errors
Oct 27, 2013I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 and started getting a whole bunch of Event Log Errors. Today I downloaded and installed new drivers for Windows 8.1 that were posted on the ASRock site dated 10/25/2013. Much to my surprise the new drivers actually made most of the Event Log Errors go away - at least for now!
The first one is the Event ID 257, Defrag Error. I did a fresh install of Windows 8 and let it setup the SSD with the three partitions - Recover Partition, EFI System Partition and the Windows 8 Partition. I use Acronis 2013 to back up the SSD on a regular basis! For some reason Windows 8.1 wants to Defrag a partition on the SSD? What do I have to change to make the Event Log Error stop. What have I done to cause the problem?
The second one is the Event ID 10016, DistributedCom Error. I have Googled/Binged and have come up with what appears to be, at least for a novice, convoluted procedures to fix. Is there a real straight forward detailed instruction on how to go about changing whatever it is that needs to be changed to fix the error. Again, what did I do to the system to make this error happen?
I'm real close to a system that might be Event Log Error free (at least for a moment) if that is possible.

Windows 8 - Deleting Local Google Folder On Computer
Feb 7, 2014I've had this issue with chrome where, I'll close it and reopen later to find the error "Chrome didn't shut down correctly, click Restore". I'm trying to delete the local google folder on my computer(then reinstalling) in the program files(x86) and It will not let me. Saying "Folder access Denied" I require permission, even though I'm the administrator. I came across this site:Take Ownership Of Files And Folders In Windows 8 where they offered a way to add a "Take ownership" option to my menu options and included a uninstall reg file.
I already saw a similar thread on this site : Take Ownership - Add to Context Menu in Windows 8 but did not download from it b/c I did not know how to remove the reg file. I tried the take ownership from the first site and it didnt work, I used the uninstall reg file and now i'm frustrated and back to square one.
I can't even reinstall chrome at all b/c of some unspecified error, I just want to be able to delete the google folder on my computer to do a clean install.
Windows 8 Errors When Open Any Program?
Mar 17, 2013I've been getting errors everytime that I open a program (ANY and EVERY program). When booted into safe mode I'm not getting any errors. Here's some pictures of me opening google chrome, skype, and Windows Media Player.
It seems to be the exact same error for all of them and the only program that DOESNT seem to give me the error is paint. As soon as I click "ok", the program opens like normal but this is incredibly annoying.
This error started immediately after I installed Windows 8 from Windows 7, I might add.

Windows 8 - Repairing Disk Errors
Aug 1, 2013I'm running Windows 8. 3 days ago my computer crashed coming up with a message that it needed to restart. It then came up with a message "Repairing disk errors. This may take over an hour", and continued to display that message for 3 days straight. Now it has gone to a Boot Menu. The menu displays two tabs Boot Menu/App Menu, with the options under Boot Menu

May 11, 2014I have used Google Chrome browser for years. Suddenly, it crashed. I uninstalled and reinstalled. No luck. Uninstalled with RevoUnistaller and deleted registry entries and leftover files. Reinstalled several times. No luck. IE, Firefox, etc. all work fine. Have 64bit computer with Windows 8.1 fully updated. Tried stable versions, beta, etc. Crashed when I try to open.

May 25, 2014I have a HP Laptop Pavilion Windows 8. Recently I caught the Highlite App. I finally was able to remove it, after trying every malware and adware remover I could think of. After I finally got rid of it, and all of it's annoying pop ups, the laptop and browsers work great for about a day and then the internet started freezing and I will get a "Google Chrome (Not Responding). It will also do the same thing with IE and Mozilla, but Chrome seems to be the worst of the three. Sometimes it's so bad, it's not usable. I updated Flash Shock wave yesterday, but it hasn't seemed to work.
I'm on Mozilla now. I got lucky.
Maintenance :: Windows 8 - Disk At 100% When Open Google Chrome Or Internet Explorer
Jul 10, 2013Here's what happened. Yesterday in the morning i was on my laptop (windows 8).
When suddenly, it started going really slow. I restarted it and every time i log into my account, i goes a bit slower, but not too much. Then whenever i open Google Chrome or Internet Explorer, the disk space goes straight up to 100% and doesn't go down. I went into safe mode and it didn't go slow then so it must be something else. I also downloaded AVG and scanned my computer but it found no threats. I have made a new account, which goes slow sometimes but is fine most of the time.

Feb 17, 2014About a week a go I had to refresh my computer and had to therefore revert back to Win 8 and re-install updates. However, I now have 81 important updates that refuse to be installed and getting the errors 800F0922 and 80071A91 as you can see from below:
I have tried some suggestions that I've found around the web, such as using the Action Center Troubleshooter, Windows Update Diagnostic, SFC and DISM with the following effect:
However, the problem still persists. I also went through and tried to install every update individually, but no luck there either.
All of these updates are also ones that require a restart, I have managed to successfully install a couple that did not need a restart.
