I recently noticed that my windows was not able to update properly and few updates are failing on a daily basis.. screen shot showing the updates-

For the past few weeks I have been getting this weird occurrence every time I try to install & update my Windows 8.1 64x-based System. No matter what update it is (except for the security updates) I get a black screen whenever i reset my computer and log back in. The mouse just shows up periodically and seems to be loading something; based on the fact that the loading cursor is being shown. I've waited hours before and nothing shows up. Only way to get my computer back to working order is by loading a system restore point.
P.S. I should also note that a white computer icon shows on the bottom left of my screen after updating as well. It comes and goes just like my cursor.
how I may update my Windows 8 Pro computer to 8.1 and then to the 8.1 update, if possible.
It's a volume licensed copy of Windows and I have no access to these updates. From what I've read, I need an MSN (what ever it's called) subscription to have access to these updates. I've seen articles around the web with ways to update, such as this one William's Blog: How to upgrade Windows 8 volume license to Windows 8.1 from the Windows Store but I do not want to do anything illegal or mess up my computer.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAbout a week a go I had to refresh my computer and had to therefore revert back to Win 8 and re-install updates. However, I now have 81 important updates that refuse to be installed and getting the errors 800F0922 and 80071A91 as you can see from below:
I have tried some suggestions that I've found around the web, such as using the Action Center Troubleshooter, Windows Update Diagnostic, SFC and DISM with the following effect:
However, the problem still persists. I also went through and tried to install every update individually, but no luck there either.
All of these updates are also ones that require a restart, I have managed to successfully install a couple that did not need a restart.
When trying to use Windows Update on a Windows 8 Pro - 64 machine, I am encountering a number of errors: 6 ... Updates just will not install:

I ran the Update Trouble Shooter, which supposedly fixed certain issues but when I re-started and re-ran the update, I had the same results (or lack of them)
I recently bought a new ASUS computer, after I set it up a notification popped up asking me to update to windows 8.1

I saw that there were updates to be installed and I had to restart my computer, so I did that, and when it turned back on, I got the error message 'your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you'and it stayed there for less than a second and went straight to a black screen where it doesn't do anything and basically forces me to manually press the power button to shut it down. It has been doing this in a loop for 5+ times, and I don't know what to do.
This is a laptop and I do not have a Windows 8 installation disk. I have tried looking at every other thread from every place I could find and could not find one that didn't talk about using an installation disk, something I don't have!
Win 8x64 desktop, two printers (Brother, Canon) connected with USB cables, no network, not part of home group. Both print ok.
I just did an in-place Win 8 repair, followed by adding the updates. Since the first set of updates, there have been eight PrintService errors (215) in Admin Events at startup.

I purchased a new ASUS LAPTOP which came with windows 8 installed. When i tried to restart after installing Gtalk i got this message.

I also tried pressing the power button for 15 secs , still no luck. Tried f8 f9 and windows + r and windows+ X keys no luck.
After a BSOD and utter failure to boot (presumably a critical OS file damaged) I ran the recovery tools for a total factory reset.
Connected to the internet and worked for an hour or two, then tried a reboot. Windows update had 104 updates to process. It did them, then "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer"
This should take half an hour. After 90 minutes it has rebooted 5 or 6 times. It keeps reverting to the same "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer" message. Looks like it might want to reboot through each of those 104 updates.
I'm going to repeat the factory reset and the FIRST thing I will do is disable updates. I'm going to see how long I can work without any updates.
I just reinstalled 8 on a ssd and tried to install 8.1 from the store but it says i need to update windows first. I tried running windows update but i get an error saying "Windows could not search for new updates" error code 80240440. I tried everything I could find online and nothing seems to work. I tried restarting windows update, i tried turning off firewall, I tried reinstalling windows again and selecting "check for updates online" before installing from the cd, i tried running a check disk, and there is absolutely no program installed on the drive other than windows.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was reviewing my windows updates and saw two optional updates that were pending. First one was for MS office and it went through fine. Second one was some update to AMD vision control center. During that update screen flashed couple of times and went for re-start. After that I am unable to get into the system. I tried safe mode/debugging/low resolution mode etc.. But all resulted in the same blue screen with the 0xc000021a error message.
I am able to go only to command prompt. Nothing else (fortunately I am able to backup my photos by connecting external hard drive and using command prompt). I checked the SRT log file but it doesn't say any issue. All passed.
I tried refresh PC but it came back and said "There was a problem refreshing your PC. No changes made".
I tried using win ISO image bootable flash drive. It couldn't get through me in (I just tried with PC repair option when I booted with ISO image).
Is there a way I can get over it without re-installing?
I am currently having an issue on my laptop at the moment where it's stuck in an infinite loop of 'reverting changes' after having tried to update and failed at 30%, I have done some reading at ways to boot into safe mode however it would appear windows 8 doesn't give me the chance.
I do not have a copy of my original windows 8 disc and am at a loss!
I have tried spamming F4, F8, F10 buttons and none are allowing me to enter boot mode.
After I installed Windows 8 I started having the "0 KB Total, 0% Downloaded" issue while attempting to update, sometimes it does work, but most of the time it doesn't
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo some background. I had issues with being able to install ANYTHING from an MSI file. Then I wasn't able to install any updates from Windows Update. I then reinstalled Windows, and am now facing the same issue after a few days. I would rather not reinstall yet again.
I tried doing System Restore, but it just hangs. Windows Installer hangs on "preparing to install".
I just bought new Asus Vivotab Smart Windows 8 tablet, after the very first windows update it failed to install some of the updates, and then after the reboot I am now stuck with the message "Failure configuring Windows updates, reverting changes".
It never gets any further than this, it never reverts, I have left it running for an entire day and have restarted several times.
This is a tablet, so there is no keyboard so I cannot press any F keys to get into recovery mode, and no CD to boot from etc.
I don't see any option to hide the updates which you don't want to install. In windows 7, one can simply right click and choose hide the update, but no such thing in windows 8.1.

Because it's been sitting on a store shelf i'm sure there are Win. updates required ..not familiar how to find 'that' section inorder to do the updates ! I am having a problem updating one of my machines (KMS activated Pro Windows 8 VL) to Windows 8.1.
I cannot update from the store (as expected) and trying to update from any iso I have, it wants to remove everything except my documents. I would ultimately like to update this machine to 8.1 update 1 without reinstall if at all possible.
Is there a standalone installer for going 8 >> 8.1?
Right now, if I rename a file in windows explorer, or right click->create new folder (or new file), or do a bunch of other things, I don't see the result of the action (i.e., the file's name stays the same, or the new folder/file doesn't appear) until I click away to another folder, and then back to the one I did the action in.
Why is this happening, and how can I fix it? I haven't explicitly changed anything recently, though maybe an update broke something.
I am using Windows 8.
I've been trying to update to Windows 8.1 but I keep having issues. I constantly have failing Windows Updates. I have tried a couple different things, renaming the SoftwareDistribution file to .old, Windows Repair, and full clean install of Windows 8. I for the life of me can't figure out what's going on.
Currently, I am unable to install the SF_Diagnostic tool for some reason. It's hung up on downloading the necessary files from Windows Features. I have a mini dump from Windows 8 attached and will try to update it with the SF_Diag tool if it ever installs.
Edit: had to manually enable .NET Framework in order to get the diagnostic tool to install. The mini dump is still the same regardless so I'll keep that there.
I updated my Windows 8 to 8.1 version, and after I installed recommended updates for 8.1, my laptop restarted and from that time I cant log in anymore, when i type anything it says wrong password or username, but when i type correct it says Invalid pointer, and now i cant nothing, i cant even start in safe mode.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a Dell Inspiron with Windows8 to replace my old XP system. Got files and software loaded, everything working. I code indicators and robots for forex trading and use the built-in editor (Meta-Editor) and it is working fine. I can call up the indicators and robots through the editor and re-edit or run them--no problem.
Then I went over to the File Explorer to move some of the indicator files around and -- weird! They are not there. All the previous files I loaded in earlier are there but since about the 1st of December, none of the files are there.
The folders and subfolders all work correctly in Editor but none of the newer ones are showing up on Explorer--I can build new folders in Explorer and they show up in Editor but whatever i build in Editor does not show up in Explorer--why could that be happening?
I am running 8.1 on a desktop and Yesterday the live tiles were working but today not one live tiles is updating. I have not made one change to my computer , not a thing.

I have 60GB SSD on my notebook so basicly just for windows and some programs (no movies etc. that's all saved on external hard drive). However, when I installed windows, it took wery little space. I still had 44GB free. After updates and installing MS Office, I now have only 22GB free. So I'm wondering, how can some updates and MS office take 22GB of disk space? Is here anything I can do, to get more space on my computer?
