I've been burning some dvds and loaded in the next dvd to burn and it the drive couldnt see that there was a disc put in. So I thought maybe the dvd was faulty and tried a few more - the dvd rw drive didnt read that there were blank dvds put in. So I put a dvd that was finished burning in and still nothing.
I have a new Asus Laptop running 64 bit 8.1 Windows Operating System. It has a celeron processor @ 1.86 Ghz with 4GB of Ram.
The DVD/CD Drive will not auto start any discs, DVD or CD. I have set the auto start at "on" and in the control panel I have it checked to auto play all media. It still does not auto start when I insert a cd or dvd. I can however, manually see the files and play a music CD.
I just bought a harddisk for my ,8 years old dell inspiron 6000 laptop. It a wd Scorpio blue 250 Gb drive but in my bios it is just showing 137gb. So I thought low level format will solve this. Although in Windows setup it shows 250 Gb.
I have an external harddrive on a USB2 port that I have been using for ages without problems. Yesterday it just stopped being accessible for no apparent reason. The machine "sees" it (as the F drive) but can't access it. If I try to double click on the F drive the machine takes aaaaaages (green "busy bar" slowly tracking) and then I eventually get an error that says "F: is not accessible" - as per this image:
So I assumed the drive had died. But to test that, I plugged it into my g/f's old XP machine and it accessed the drive with no problems whatsoever!
The only other thing I could think to try was to look in disc management. But even though the is an F drive showing in explorer (as per the above image)... it doesn't even show up in disc management!
So, in exasperation, I did a "refresh" of my system. A bit of a drastic step, but I thought maybe it was time for a cleanup anyway. But, after the refresh was done... STILL the same problem! Exactly as per the above images, the machine "sees" the F drive but nothing is accessible.
this evening i upgraded my Windows 7 i used for Gaming to Windows 8.1 It only had 5-6 Games installed and rarely was on the Internet, so i thought the upgrade would go fast and easy.
But since the upgrade (all updates in Windows 8.1 are already done), WMP does not read any MP3 File anymore. He just tells me "Unkown Artist, Unkwon Album" for every title...
Did Microsoft removed the Feature for MP3 Tags in WMP?
Because i also have FLAC Music, i installed WMP Tag Plus Extension and now he is able to read FLAC Extensions fine, but still no MP3 and WMP Tag Plus tells me that he doesnt want to Support it as WMP natively supports MP3 Tags
DVD rom isn't reading any disks, i have a ASUS drw-24b1st. I checked my device manager and it has an exclamation on the dvd-rom. I tried to run FIX IT but it isn't compatible for windows 8.1.
I have been running 8.1 for a while - after a major crash a couple months back where I had to re-install the entire operating system, that has not happened again - but the computer does crash/re-boot itself fairly regularly. Luckily reboots are fast and painless. I have done a dump with SF that I will attach.
When reading an email in the windows 8.1 mail app, if the sender of the email has typed a url it should come up us a direct link to be opened in your default browser...right? mine does not, i have taken a screenshot and attached it to this thread
My PC with Windows 8 Pro doesn't read any kind of discs. I first tried a movie then it reads, a little disc appears on the cursor which means that the disc is being read. But all of a sudden, it fails at the end and doesn't read the disc. Even a bootable disc, it just stays black with a blinking line then it fails to read it as well. No errors or messages, it just proceeds to the Windows 8 loading screen.
I tried to make recovery discs but Win 8.1 won't allow that anymore. This is from a MS full install disk, not OEM partition or similar. I tried the flash drive method and it did do that. However, the customer had only a USB flash drive adapter that allows MSD to fit. It accepted that and created the recovery flash drive using that setup. However, upon rebooting it just doesn't go into recovery mode. It just sits there prior to boot menu setup after pressing [ESC] for the laptop. What is going on? I know the flash drive is holding the boot process after I press [ESC] to enter boot menu for the laptop, what gives. I really don't think a true flash drive will work as well, though i couldn't test that at the time.
Win8.1 32-bit installed and updated HP probook 4510s 2gb ram celeron cpu
I have accidentally deleted recovery drive on my Inspiron 5521 system during partition creation. My system is in warranty period. So I wanted to know how can I get recovery discs for the system .

I have been getting random bsods with my computer that is fairly new and can't seem to figure out the problem. Most of these problems are caused by hal.dll.
When putting the arrow to the top, another bar in the upper left hand corner is a big E and what ever web page i'm on is what comes up on the screen. but I would put several photos across the top of different bar (the one with the house, star, and gear is on). so when I put the arrow on the big E, a bunch of small photos show up. allowing me to just touch the photo (with the arrow) I need for that page work it would fill the screen. just moving the arrow back and forth moves each photo into view but now when I touch the big E a big blue box drops down when I touch the photo on the box, the blue box blocks half the photo. how do I get rid of this blue box so I can get back to the same speed I was working at?
I have been using 8.1 for about 6 mo now and have seen a blue box top right of screen come and go with different things cd in drive / flash drive plugged in / mp3 player plugged in etc. what is this notification box called where can I control it? I think something has changed the system I have not seen the Blue box (top right of screen) and it is not the blue screen of death. for a while.
My computer is stuck on a weird screen. When I start it I get to the welcome screen with the time date etc and then I get to a blue screen but I can't log in it does not even appear. I only see a switch off button , language option and my mouse but I can't do anything
I have hp pavilion g6-2249 wm notebook. My laptop is 4 months old. Two days ago when I started my pc, the welcome page opens and then I sign in. Everything is ok on the apps page that immediately opens. If I click the desktop app icon, it goes to the desktop and the entire page starts to flash, it shows the desktop for 2 seconds and then then flashes to blue for 5 seconds and back and forth, etc.
The desktop will not stay open long enough for me to do anything. I cannot get it to start in safe mode. I clicked F8 repeatedly on start up but nothing happens. I used the esc on startup and ran every test offered except BIOS. I don't know what to do with that so I didn't mess with it. All tests were ok.
If I go back to the app page from the flashing desktop, the app page and charms start flashing also. I can't even shut down properly then. Norton 360 runs in the background all the time but I can't get to it to do a scan. I can't get to any file. The only way to get online is to turn off pc and turn on later. App page does not flash at that time. I go to search and click on Explorer and I can go to my homepage. If I click on required addons then the background starts flashing and I have to reset my cursor every two letter that I type.
My laptop has been fine since the last episode but today it was freezing and the screen went blue and it needed to shut down. I let it do it's thing and it referenced -- kernal_data _inpage_error and since then it has been good for a few minutes but as soon as I attempt to multitask everything freezes for 3-5 mins and I can't do a thing. It is like it needs to catch up. get my laptop back in speedy order As I move over to a new tab that is taking some time to load I notice is says waiting for cache.....on the bottom... then it locked up -- just for maybe a minute. Both Google Chrome and IE give me the "Not Responding"

Also got an error that said my system denied write access to host files. If any hijacked domains are in this file hijack this may not be able to fix this...then it tells me to edit the file -- wasn't sure if I should yet so I did not.
I recently changed to windows 8, there's a problem with my graphic card (I think). I play the lord of the rings online, and when I try to launch it, as soon as it goes into full screen, the whole screen gets dark bluish (not BSOD). When thah happens the screen stays that way even if I close lotro and the only way it goes back to normal is by rebooting.
Here's a screenshot with my system specs: [url].....
P.S. I have tried updating my video card driver, it says it's up to date... the version is WDDM v1.1
My taskbar with toolbars: address, desktop, links etc becomes just empty blue space after PC was idle. nothing on it and I have to restart to be able to get it back again. Also. in that "state" I can choose application from Start screen but it does not open. Just show on that empty taskbar. When I click it, little picture of it pop up above taskbar but it can only be closed. Nothing shows as open on Alt+F4 or in upper left corner, even when I open or better say click on all aps on Start screen. All I pinned on taskbar disappears also.
I am able to log in to the main user of the computer, but when I do, it brings me to a black screen with a blue task bar. I am able to use ctrl alt del and get into task manager, which is opened in the screen shot. Nothing else works. I was also able to get into windows boot manager once by pressing f8 and selecting boot manager, but since running a repair, it no longer works. When I click boot manager, it just starts the computer up like normal.
