My computer is stuck on a weird screen. When I start it I get to the welcome screen with the time date etc and then I get to a blue screen but I can't log in it does not even appear. I only see a switch off button , language option and my mouse but I can't do anything

I recently upgraded to windows 8.1 from windows 7. Installation went fine and first time I loaded into windows perfectly. I only installed the following: killer enthernet driver and google chrome (also nobodies graphics driver)I reset my computer and it goes through the logo then goes into a blank blue screen where I can move my cursor.What I've tried: I can log into safe mode. Right now I am resetting the PC (file wipe). I can't seem to attach an image on mobile.
View 4 Replies View RelatedEvery few days I get a blue screen if death error message and have to reboot my computer. The error messages are rarely the same. Today's message was Page_fault-in_nonpaged_area (igdkmd 32.sys), however, as I said, I receive many other messages. I have googled the various messages and the usual advice is to disconnect my various bits of hardware (printer, scanner, external hard drive, router and Inport {for recording from a turntable). I am supposed to see whether the BSOD appears after each piece of hardware is removed. This isn't practical as the errors aren't occurring consistently or every day so I wouldn't easily be able to tell which hardware is causing the problem.

Now whenever it goes into restart, I just hold my power button until it shuts down. I don't think it's good for my laptop so I want to figure out a way to have a fast restart. I got this laptop 3 weeks ago and it always had this problem. My old laptop restarts in under 2 minutes.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using the computer, when the power went out for like half a second, the computer ended up restarting, and while starting up, the power went out. When the power came back, I wasn't able to get past the Blue window's icon with a swirly loop on the bottom.
I've created a repair install thing and placed it on a flashdrive, and I've booted from it and tried to do system restore. After around 4-5 hours, a blue screen pops up and said something about window's encountering an error. (Too fast to catch what else it may of said)
What can I do to make my computer work again? Should I try to do another system restore. Also how long does it take to boot from the flashdrive? It takes me around 1 hour. Is it supposed to take so long?
Just had this new laptop running windows 8 and its an Acer.When I select the photos tile on the screen it goes to another screen which is black with a blue square icon and underneath it tells me that there are no files or folders in this view.There are photos in my picture folder as I just put then in.But if I go to the other method and select the My picture folder the photos are there.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSince last week I'm getting a lot of blue screens which appear for no apparent reason, sometimes I leave the computer locked for dinner and when I come back, the computer has restarted with a blue screen.
I'm using Windows 8.1 with update 1, and the blue screen's message is IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL .
I suspect that this is happening because of a wi-fi receiver that I've installed on my computer a month ago.
My computer keeps blue screening lately after a fresh install.

I have been using 8.1 for about 6 mo now and have seen a blue box top right of screen come and go with different things cd in drive / flash drive plugged in / mp3 player plugged in etc. what is this notification box called where can I control it? I think something has changed the system I have not seen the Blue box (top right of screen) and it is not the blue screen of death. for a while.

First the browser (any browser) gets stuck loading pages but it is responsive (I can change tabs, scroll, select text etc)
The taskbar stops working at all and the mouse cursor changes to spinning circle when I hover on it.
The desktop screen seems to work at first, but it freezes too with the spinning circle if I open anything or right click.
CTRL ALT DEL, ALT TAB and start screen shortcuts won't work.
I have to reset because I can't reach shutdown or reboot options. Then the computer returns to normal.
Checked hard disk, and sfc /scannow without any errors. No errors in Event viewer.
Shortly after I pressed the Power button for the first time on my brand new Windows 8 laptop, I was brought to the screen where I set my time zone. I changed the default - Pacific Time - to my time zone - Eastern Time - and continued setting up my computer. Not long after, I realized that the time shown on my computer was wrong, and when I checked I discovered that the time zone had reverted to Pacific Time.
The problem is: I cannot change the time zone! (Yes, I am an Administrator.) Whether I do it from the Start Screen or the desktop, the time zone always reverts to Pacific Time. I even tried running tzutil from an elevated command prompt - the time zone will not change.
How can I change the time zone to Eastern Time? (I have plain Windows 8, not the Pro version.)
My laptop has been fine since the last episode but today it was freezing and the screen went blue and it needed to shut down. I let it do it's thing and it referenced -- kernal_data _inpage_error and since then it has been good for a few minutes but as soon as I attempt to multitask everything freezes for 3-5 mins and I can't do a thing. View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently changed to windows 8, there's a problem with my graphic card (I think). I play the lord of the rings online, and when I try to launch it, as soon as it goes into full screen, the whole screen gets dark bluish (not BSOD). When thah happens the screen stays that way even if I close lotro and the only way it goes back to normal is by rebooting.

Here's the run down (with an attachment):
I am able to log in to the main user of the computer, but when I do, it brings me to a black screen with a blue task bar. I am able to use ctrl alt del and get into task manager, which is opened in the screen shot. Nothing else works. I was also able to get into windows boot manager once by pressing f8 and selecting boot manager, but since running a repair, it no longer works. When I click boot manager, it just starts the computer up like normal.
The computer did not come with a windows 8 dvd.
Dual booting Win 7 and Win 8. Win 7 is C: Primary installed first, Win 8 is installed to a primary partition (25GB). I get the blue recovery screen after starting Win 8 from bootloader menu. Win 7 starts fine. I have installed Win 8 on another computer using the same flash so I know the flash is good. First I defraged and cleaned out C: then created the partition. I have installed it on the computer before (preview edition) then removed it(formated D: partition), this is the RTM 9200 build. Did I mention that on the other computer when installed it asked for Key which I temporarily skipped, on this computer however when installed it did not ask for the key. Before the install I ran bootrec /fixmbr, /fixboot and also /rebuildbcd from Win 7 install disk.
I don't think it's a problem with the Win 7 boot loader. My guess is some registry value or other setting or file in Win 7 is preventing normal startup of Win 8. I do believe it's not hardware related. Any thoughts on what could cause this? Could it be the Win 8 bootloader now causing problems and if so how would I fix this issue? Do I need to fix bootloader in Win 8 and should I run the bootrec cmd's from the Win 8 flash this time? Not sure which has taking over now! I have searched in these forums and online for a couple of day's to no avail though references have been made that the Win 8 bootloader has now taken over, if so were does the now functioning bootloader reside - C: or D: (partition) and which one is it Win 7 or Win 8 loader?

I have a gaming laptop and use it for playing video games. Recently I get blue screen and crashes playing online games like dota 2. I ran many different stress tests and they were all OK. I guess there is something wrong with my mice or audio driver because most of the times I get bluescreen after someone uses his/her mice in the game.

Sometimes it will not show up until a half and hour, sometimes it starts in 15-20 min. It is just really random and it just restarts my computer inconveniently.
Anyways, I have Attached my SFC Scan from the program recommended... Also When i use SFC/Scannow on Command Prompt I am told " Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Detailes are included in the CBS.Log windirLogsCBSCBS.log. Fir example C:WindowsLogsCBSCBS.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios.
When I watch Youtube, I get Blue screen randomly.
Also, I found that choosing sound quality 24 bit, 24000 HZ, instead of 24 bit, 192000 HZ seems to alleviate the problem.
But, as an audiophile, I would like to still set it to 192000 HZ.

I'm running Windows 8.1 and recently encountered a strange problem
When I right click on an item on my desktop (file /folder etc) the screen quickly goes blue (the same colour as my Windows tiles as if it is switching to tiled mode rather than desktop) then my desktop comes back up.
This also happens when I'm in a folder.
It has started happening this last week. It is an annoyance to me as I need to right click >>> rename files all the time for my work but it wont work. As a result I have to open the file and go through the save as process instead.
I have Avast and Malwarebytes Anti Malware - both have not picked up anything.
