View 3 RepliesThis script was made for Windows 7 but works perfectly on Windows 8:
Event Viewer One Click Clear - Windows 7 Forums
Note: Some say you should never clear the Event Logs but when "I can't see the forrest for the trees", I run this script (as admin).
Whether or not these batch files that I use to clear the Event Viewer logs and to activate the extended disk cleanup prompt of windows 7 are compatible with Windows 8.1.

keep getting it logged as an error. I have gone into Adjust Date and TimeInternet Timeand it is set to automatically synchronize with time.windows.com and on a scheduled basis. When I try to update or change the setting I get an error message that an error occurred while windows was synchronizing. I have tried to do a system file check but get the error message that Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested service or start the Repair Service. I have checked that Windows Modules Installer is set to manual and so I don't know how else I can repair this error 131.

View 9 Replies View Relatedthis evening i upgraded my Windows 7 i used for Gaming to Windows 8.1 It only had 5-6 Games installed and rarely was on the Internet, so i thought the upgrade would go fast and easy.
But since the upgrade (all updates in Windows 8.1 are already done), WMP does not read any MP3 File anymore. He just tells me "Unkown Artist, Unkwon Album" for every title...
Did Microsoft removed the Feature for MP3 Tags in WMP?
Because i also have FLAC Music, i installed WMP Tag Plus Extension and now he is able to read FLAC Extensions fine, but still no MP3 and WMP Tag Plus tells me that he doesnt want to Support it as WMP natively supports MP3 Tags
I have booted in safe mode, and it seems to work fine. But, when I do a clean boot (disabling all non-windows startup services and programs), it still logs me out.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I had Windows 7 I scheduled a task for my laptop to shutdown at 3 a.m. When I would log in the next morning, Chrome would give me the "restore" option so I didn't lose the browser tabs I had been using the night before. Skype would still be logged into, and another program I use nightly, would be logged out, but still on my taskbar.
Now I have Windows 8 and when I used the task scheduler exactly as it had been in Windows 7, everything is gone. I don't get the restore tabs option for Chrome, Skype is completely logged out of, and the other program is shutdown and not in the task bar.
I want to find a way to get it to work as it did in Windows 7. I thought maybe just putting it into hibernation would be the answer, but I can't find clear instructions on how to do this. I tried changing the -s parameter to -h and removing the -f parameter, but this morning when I opened the lid it was as if the computer had just stayed on completely and not gone into hibernation.
I seem to be getting many of these errors lately. When I say many, I mean like 100 an hour showing in Event Viewer.
Failed to schedule Software Protection service for re-start at 2113-08-03T18:48:31Z.

I need to change the schedule I have already created for a System Image Backup. How do I get into schedule settings to change it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've clean installed and registered Windows 8.1 Pro 'With Update', and it logs into the Desktop automatically. If I run "netplwiz" my "Users must enter a user name and password to use this comptuer." check box is checked... As well all my registry entries under:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAuthenticationLogonUI
...seem to be in order for the system requiring a password to be entered before the system loads the start screen or desktop but I'm directly in the desktop whether I cold boot or reboot.
I just started to get many scripting errors while reading newspapers. What can I do to resolve this.

View 2 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows 8, the system boots into a user account without login.
The launcher seems to work, I can bring up the desktop. From the desktop I cannot launch any programs, other than a non-admin DOS window- but from there I can't launch any other non command.com EXE.
When I try and run any desktop app, the icon comes up and highlights for about 5-10 seconds, then goes back to normal. I can't even ht CTRL-ALT-DEL and run Task Manager. It just never comes up.
Logging out never gets me back to the login screen.
I can swap accounts- but the other account never gets logged in. Just waits forever (or, at least, a long time).
When I launch Metro apps, the splash comes up to the app... and that's it. I can CTRL-F4 it, and that's it.
Hitting F8 on boot doesn't do anything (no safe mode anymore?).
I've been burning some dvds and loaded in the next dvd to burn and it the drive couldnt see that there was a disc put in. So I thought maybe the dvd was faulty and tried a few more - the dvd rw drive didnt read that there were blank dvds put in. So I put a dvd that was finished burning in and still nothing.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been running 8.1 for a while - after a major crash a couple months back where I had to re-install the entire operating system, that has not happened again - but the computer does crash/re-boot itself fairly regularly. Luckily reboots are fast and painless. I have done a dump with SF that I will attach.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWindows 8 creates a roaming profile in the C:Users directory using xxxxxx_000 subdirectories for each Microsoft account which is created.
Apparently, these subdirectories are only temporary directories that are recreated each time a user logs on to Windows 8 via these accounts.
Is there a way to make sure that these profiles are completely deleted when the user logs off from his Microsoft account?
is there a way to have programs running when I lock my Surface Pro, and if so how would I do it?

I have Win8.1 installed on an HP Envy AiO. I have a little over a dozen tasks set-up in Task Scheduler. Everything was working fine until I attempted to install a Video File Converter from Cnet.com. That program installed something called "Auto Updater 1.2.0.3". And that's when our new problem started. The majority of the tasks in TS are now running every time we boot the machine. Not what we want.
I couldn't find much on-line about the Auto Updater program, and tried to uninstall with no success. I finally went into Safe Mode to install that way. The program is now uninstalled. I also am very careful about malware and viruses, so I ran MWBytes full scan and several AV scans with Avast Internet Security (rootkit, boot, full). All appears to be OK with the PC.
I want to change WWAHost.exe on the 'Details' tab in Task Manager from 'Suspended' to 'Running', how do I do that? When I right click on the name I can't see anything on the menu that does this!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Admin & a Guest account on my Windows 8.1 Pro (32 bit). I have enabled the option to go directly to the desktop (through toolbar properties > Navigation) in both the accounts. However, I notice that at times when I start my PC, it logs me in directly to the Guest account instead of taking me to the page where I should see the date & time (before login page). This does not happen always.

View 14 Replies View RelatedToday I thought I'd set a picture for my user account.
Nothing happens when I click or double click on the user account icon in the control panel.
I then went to check if our other pc was the same but that's fine.
I did notice that on mine instead of an icon of two people the icon is that of a folder.
I have tried accessing it through "Godmode" and it says it can't find it and also all the icons for user tasks are a blank piece of paper.
I deleted maintenance tasks in task scheduler (Microsoft>windows>task scheduler) because I didn't want to have automatic maintenance fire up when I'm working, but sadly... some shit got messed up. My computer starts using hdd at 100% if left idle, and then freezes and all kinds of weird crap that I'm almost positive have to do with me deleting maintenance.
which tasks do I need to re-create in task scheduler in order to have auto-maintenance once again. If you could just read to me all the tasks, triggers, and which programs they are running .
I had the idle & regular maintenance tasks disabled but they always re-enabled themselves. In a fit of madness I ended up deleting them but now when I open a folder with videos or images the thumbnails always display in a slow staggered way every time from left to right, If I then exit the folder & go back in they do the same again. It's almost like they are not being cached at all & are having to be redrawn every time.
The only change I have made to my system is remove Comodo firewall & install Private Firewall & delete the idle & regular maintenance tasks.
I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 and started getting a whole bunch of Event Log Errors. Today I downloaded and installed new drivers for Windows 8.1 that were posted on the ASRock site dated 10/25/2013. Much to my surprise the new drivers actually made most of the Event Log Errors go away - at least for now!
The first one is the Event ID 257, Defrag Error. I did a fresh install of Windows 8 and let it setup the SSD with the three partitions - Recover Partition, EFI System Partition and the Windows 8 Partition. I use Acronis 2013 to back up the SSD on a regular basis! For some reason Windows 8.1 wants to Defrag a partition on the SSD? What do I have to change to make the Event Log Error stop. What have I done to cause the problem?
The second one is the Event ID 10016, DistributedCom Error. I have Googled/Binged and have come up with what appears to be, at least for a novice, convoluted procedures to fix. Is there a real straight forward detailed instruction on how to go about changing whatever it is that needs to be changed to fix the error. Again, what did I do to the system to make this error happen?
I'm real close to a system that might be Event Log Error free (at least for a moment) if that is possible.
