Mouse Pointers Cursor Setup Revert Back To Default On Reboot
Jul 3, 2013I set up cursors for the mouse pointers and save the changes, then the next time I reboot they revert back to the default settings. Is this just Windows 8?

Windows 8.1 Preview Pro On Reboot - Only Cursor
Jul 28, 2013I just installed a clean install of Windows 8.1 Preview Pro on my laptop (HP DV9000) and I've been coming back and forth to the forum and getting my questions answered by reading all the post about my problems and it worked. I've come across one problem that's frustration to say the least and it's really annoying.
Now that when I reboot my laptop it boots just fine and now the blank black screen comes on with just the cursor present. I've waited and even rebooted a few times and it's still the same.
Mouse Cursor Appearing During Some Games Windows 8 X64
Feb 28, 2013Sometimes when I am playing a game in fullscreen with the 360 controller, the mouse cursor will appear on the screen where I last left it. I have to jiggle the mouse and it will go away, but it comes back periodically. In games where I am using a mouse with a special look during the game, I can see flickers of the regular white windows mouse cursor. At first I thought it was just happening in Steam Big Picture Mode, but it is happening in all games.

No Login / Black Screen With Mouse Cursor Even In Safe Mode
Mar 21, 2014My Windows8PC shows black screen with only mouse cursor instead of login screen. I tried chkdsk but it shows no errors. Even when i start in safe mode the screen stays black. I think it's a graphic driver problem, but i dont know how i can deactivate or delete the installed driver via cmd.

Windows 8 Stuck At Black Screen (with Mouse Cursor) After Deleting Linux Partition
Aug 15, 2014I have a problem in my dual boot machine. I decided to remove Linux mint 17 from my dual boot with windows 8.
I used easeus partition manager to delete the partitions associated (root, home and swap). Then I got unallocated space just before my windows partition. So I moved my windows partition to the extreme left possible. Then I merged this unallocated space with my second storage partition.
These steps required reboot (specifically the moving of windows partition). When I rebooted my PC I got an error that grub was not found. I realized that I had forgot to fix MBR and load windows boot loader. So I used windows 7 recovery disk (yes windows 7 as I don't have windows8 recovery or installation disk). I got a windows 7 style boot loader instead of windows 8's graphical one which has advanced recovery options built in. But I proceeded. Then eases did its job with the partitions. After a reboot now I am stuck at a black screen after entering my password with a movable mose cursor. I can only press Ctrl+alt+del. Selecting task manager from it does nothing.
Since I don't have windows 8 disks and windows 8 boot loader I am not able to refresh or reset my PC. Neither can I shift restart my PC to get advanced boot options. One more thing to note, that while entering password, I noticed that the lock screen and account pictures have changed to defaults of a freshly installed windows.

May 28, 2014I have recently undertaken to get my pictures folder all sorted out and I have got a couple of thousand pictures there. I have been trying to make individual folders within my folder in categories so that I can sort things.
The problem is that in each of these folders I have to keep clicking on "View" and then "Extra Large" over and over again. Isn't it supposed to stay like I put it without me having to re-tell it over and over? It keeps going back to the default size of the pictures.
tiring to have to keep on re-setting the picture sizes for the hundredth time.
How To Display Windows 8 Mouse Pointer By Default
Nov 13, 2013I'm using a Windows 8 64-bit ASUS VivoBook S200E as home media centre. The player is MPC-HC and the Bluetooth remote uses mouse movements and keypresses to browse the playlist and control playback. It's working very nicely, except for one problem - the mouse pointer is never visible! The only way to activate it is by making gestures with the touchpad (or with a mouse). That means getting up which isn't what remotes are all about . The computer has a touch screen, but that isn't used and doesn't affect the mouse pointer anyway.
I've been told that this behaviour is a Windows 8 "feature" for touch screen devices - the device being in touch mode by default and not displaying the mouse pointer until pointer movement is detected. I've tried all settings I could think of but nothing so far has changed this behaviour. Just to be clear, we're not talking about "hide mouse while typing" kind of behaviour. In this case, when the machine boots up there is no cursor, and it remains invisible for ever, unless you move a touchpad or mouse.
Is there some setting or registry value I could modify to change this behaviour?
Alternatively, is there some script I could use to just jiggle the mouse at startup? I've used Windows Scripting Host for things like this before, but the SendKeys method seems not to support mouse control.
Hardware Drivers :: BIOS Keeps Going Back To Default After Few Weeks?
Jun 15, 2014Every few weeks, I have to get my old graphics card and change the BIOS settings because the CSM mode just resets out of nowhere. The new graphics card isn't compatible with windows 8 so I have to go back and enable the CSM settings to get it to work. Is there a reason why my BIOS keeps resetting the next morning I wake up?

Oct 18, 2013I just installed 8.1 on my Samsung Series 7 Chronos laptop and it's now unusable. All I get after a reboot now is a blank screen and a vanishing cursor. I can't do CTRL+ALT+DEL or any other button combination. I also can't seem to be able to do a system restore as a restore point doesn't seem to exist for some odd reason. I've also tried the boot into low res mode but I get the same result. The only thing that seems to work is booting into Safe Mode with Networking but that doesn't allow me to install/uninstall anything so it's pretty much useless.

Dec 2, 2013Upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro from 8 through the Windows Store. Everything seemed to go smoothly. Updated graphics card drivers prior to install of 8.1. Now whenever I start up, I can log in, but then it goes to a black screen with a cursor. Ctrl-Alt-Del will bring up the task manager and from there I can access programs and get on the internet. So after maybe 5 minutes or so after opening a program (usually firefox) the Metro screen randomly loads. None of the store apps worked, though I was able to find a fix for that. Some of them still don't work right though. Is there a better way to upgrade from 8 other than through the store?

Jan 24, 2014bought Win 8 for a Win 7 Dell laptop in Jan. 2013 and have happily used Win 8 for a year. I have a Win 8 backup disc and valid license key.
I decided to update Win 8 to the free Win 8.1 a few days ago and went ahead with the download and installation of Win 8.1. However, after a seemingly successful installation, set up and login, a simple reboot resulted in no longer being able to boot. I can boot to safe mode but cannot boot properly no matter what I do.
There is no specific error message when I reboot, the OS simply fails to reach the login stage and reboots again. It then opens the 'Failed startup' page asking if I wish to use advanced options or restart.I tried turning off all non-Microsoft software like AVG, Comodo, Samsung Keys, etc., but it didn't solve the issue.
I also noticed that Safe Mode boot fails when I attempt to boot to 'Safe Mode with Networking' but is successful when booting to simple 'Safe Mode' or 'Safe Mode with Command Prompt'. I have attempted to burn the Win 8.1 disc as described on this site but from a Win XP system which according to the download software is not possible and unfortunately I do not have access to another system.

Jul 22, 2013All, I have been experiencing big problems with Windows 8 Pro. I had been running the OS on a 120GB SSD up until a week ago with no problems until the following started happening:
Windows 8 started to reboot in a continuous loop with the following error message: Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. Error code 0cx000021a.
It would then put itself into System Repair mode, but was unable to fix itself. It then booted to the System Repair screen and so I attempted the following in order:
Tired to run System Restore, failed
Tried to System Repair, failed
Tried to System Refresh, failed
Tried to System Reset, failed.
After running System Reset and failing, it rebooted and I was left with 'There is no operating system installed on this device'.
As the version of Windows 8 I have is an online-only installation I then went back into my original order and ordered the accompanying Windows 8 recovery disk. Several days later the disk arrived and I attempted to run a windows 8 re-install from the disk. I followed the onscreen instructions and thought great, this is going to work. However first time, 'Getting files ready for installation' got to 57%, then I received the following error: Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Restart the installation. Error code 0x80070570
So I completely formatted the SDD, deleted partition. Created new partition. The second time, 'Getting files ready for installation' got to 82%, then as before: Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Restart the installation. Error code 0x80070570
At this point I turned off the PC. How I can turn my now brick of a performance PC back into a working system?

Mar 13, 2014This is a Windows 8 OEM CD install, on an i7 x64 system. I have tried this with both UEFI and legacy modes.
I cleaned the drive and allowed setup to partition and format how it sees fit on an Intel SSD.
The system copies files, sets them up and reboots.
The blue windows logo is up for a minute, then the screen (not the PC) power cycles (probably due to a resolution change). It hangs there on a black screen. There is a mouse cursor that responds and the num lock toggles on the kb, but nothing else. CTRL-ALT-DEL does nothing.

Jun 17, 2014My son has an MSI Laptop running Windows 8.1. Following a recent Windows update (he cannot be more specific) he is no longer able to use his Admin (the only one) account. He sees the mouse pointer but the rest of the screen is black. Ctrl-Alt-Del does bring up a panel offering the usual options to shut down, reboot, Task Manager, etc. - but when I select Task Manager with the intention of seeing what processes are running,the dialogue does appear, but before it is properly displayed it vanishes.
Meanwhile the HDD light is burning constantly. If I simply leave the machine for 30 minutes or so, then the HDD activity subsides but there is still a blank screen. Moving the mouse pointer to the top or bottom right hand side of the screen has no effect.
Unfortunately we did not have the wits to set restore points Interestingly the other account (not administrator) is working without problem.
