I would install it on my Dell laptop running Windows 7. If after using Windows 8 for awhile, I may decide I like Windows 7 better. How is it possible to revert back? I read that once you do an upgrade the license of the older OS is lost according to this reference:
[URL]
which is quoted here:
"If I use a Windows 8 Upgrade disc/download to upgrade my Windows 7 computer to Windows 8, can I then use my old Windows 7 disc and product key to install Windows 7 on another computer?"
No. The Windows 8 Upgrade license replaces the previous Windows 7 (or Windows Vista or Windows XP) license.
To be clear: your old version of Windows that you upgraded from can no longer be used on your current, or any other, computer.Click to expand...
When I installed the free upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1 I tried to access a web page I use for work and now I can not read it. When I was using Windows 8 I could read the page every time. Now I cant. My question is: can you revert back to Windows 8 from 8.1.
I set up cursors for the mouse pointers and save the changes, then the next time I reboot they revert back to the default settings. Is this just Windows 8?
can i revert from windows 8.1 to windows 8 i do have a recovery flash drive with windows 8 and i do have a recovery programme on my acer aspire V3-571.
My son has an MSI Laptop running Windows 8.1. Following a recent Windows update (he cannot be more specific) he is no longer able to use his Admin (the only one) account. He sees the mouse pointer but the rest of the screen is black. Ctrl-Alt-Del does bring up a panel offering the usual options to shut down, reboot, Task Manager, etc. - but when I select Task Manager with the intention of seeing what processes are running, the dialogue does appear, but before it is properly displayed it vanishes.
Meanwhile the HDD light is burning constantly. If I simply leave the machine for 30 minutes or so, then the HDD activity subsides but there is still a blank screen. Moving the mouse pointer to the top or bottom right hand side of the screen has no effect.
Unfortunately we did not have the wits to set restore points Interestingly the other account (not administrator) is working without problem.
Bought a new HP Pavilion with 8 installed, no CD. New OS and have decided to go back to Windows 7. I bought a full OEM version of 7 and am instructed to format the hard drive before inserting the new OS CD. I am having problems formatting the hard drive with out a OS CD to use.
So, after decades of using Windows I've just discovered the single most destructive command... The CTRL+Z... Yup, that's right.
So here's the problem. I always leave my computer on 24/7, and today I was in a application trying to undo something, but I didn't notice the application was out of focus and I was in fact "undoing" several actions I've made in the last days... Absolute disaster - I accidentally deleted Gigabytes of information and I've no way of getting them back... The worst part is, I don't even know for certain what I've deleted, as I don't exactly recall what I did in the last few days.
My question is, is there a history/log of the undo actions? I've already checked Event Viewer and there is nothing there.
I signed up for a DNS service a while back. When I stopped using their service I removed their DNS entry from the ipv4 settings and considered it done (this was all they stated for install/uninstall, just update the DNS in ipv4)
At random, the PC will revert back to their DNS server. I have no virus (Malewarebytes Pro), my hosts file is empty.
Here's what I've done:
1) Removed it from ipv4 settings manually and reset to Obtain DNS Automatically
2) Open cmd as admin and ran the following sequence:
ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /registerdns ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew netsh winsock reset netsh int ip reset
3) Reboot
On reboot, everything is normal, anywhere from 24 hours to 30 DAYS later it automatically reverts back to their DNS servers. I am on a .edu domain. I do not have access to the router, but I never modified anything in the router. Why my PC keeps reverting to their DNS servers?
I have been using my win 8 computer for a few months without the log in screen. I did this by way of the netplwiz run command to the User Account dialogue box. I thought I would go back to using the log in screen, but when I got to the User Account dialogue box, the check box for "must sign in with password" was already checked. So now there doesn't seem to be a way to get the log in screen back.
Is there a way to get my lock screen/login screen back?
I have Windows 8.1 installed and today I discovered that theStart button is back. I do not know how or when it happened but I now have thestart button and it is exactly like the one on Windows 7. A few days ago therewere some updates which I installed so I suppose it came down with that. I justclick on the little icon at the bottom left hand corner. As I said, it's justlike the one on Windows 7.Is this a fluke?
One day, I changed the configuration of IDE to AHCI through Windows registry and configuring the BIOS parameters. Today, I want to go back to IDE without reinstalling Windows. I do not know how to do.
Is it possible to roll back to win7 from Windows 8?
I purchased Windows 8 pro as an upgrade from win7 through Microsoft so I do not have a disc. I've looked at several vids on the internet and nothing worked.
I have tried start up and recover, Windows 8 is the only system available.
I purchased my laptop with win7, so no disc or recovery disc.
I also tried setting up a vhd and boot into that, it did not work.
I don't know what Windows 8.1 has done to my system but after getting rid of it and re-installing Windows 8 ENTERPRISE again I cannot create Windows to GO any more
It doesn't matter if I plug in an SSD, a standard USB stick or a standard external USB HDD - I get No suitable devices found when launching the application from the control panel.
(I can do it manually the old fashioned way but I don't know why the standard method is broken when it was working perfectly before).
I have a Dell Inspiron 7572. I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 and followed some instructions on upgrading the catalyst video driver. I downloaded this and installed and it asked me to restart. However all I get now is a black screen. If I try moving the mouse it appears for a couple of seconds then disappears. I can't find any way to boot into safe mode as I can get anything up on screen. I imagine uninstalling the display driver will fix the issue but I can't work out anyway to get into windows to do it.
I made the mistake of updating to Windows 8.1 and now I have trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi at my university. It tells me I have access to internet but at the same time it tells me the DNS sever is not available. I have tried many things but I just can't get it to work. There are also some websites that don't display correctly or work the way they are supposed to. Google being one of them. I don't know what to do so I thought I would just restore to before I updated to 8.1. So I did, but it's still 8.1. I can't go back any further than to the day I updated. Is there any way?
I have Hybrid boot a.k.a Fast Boot enabled before.. This occurred to me last week.
When I click on shut down, It shows shutting down and displays turns off.. little later the screen turns on and the desktop comes back.. If I have turn it off, I have to force the PC by holding the Power button. I googled it and they said to turn off Hybrid boot, but it was the only reason I installed Windows 8..
Now that I turned it off, it takes a while to turn on/off the PC..
This not only affects Shut Down but Sleep, Hibernate and Restart too..
For a week or so whenever I click and go to either email or address book etc. within 20 seconds I get flipped back to the Windows 8 Start page. It happens every time without fail. Is it something I have done or has the system developed a fault?
I have found out how to encrypt a folder I would sent to the Cloud. I also saw how to decrypt the folder.
I saw mention of backing up the cetificate which sems to complicate the process.. if you can decrypt a folder you have encrypted, why is it necessary to backup the certificate? Is it because the first time a certificate is generated and without it you cannot open the folder?
If so where do you back the certificate up to in case of drive failure?
How to back into basic disk from dynamic? I try Delete my partition but there is no option for back into basic...
I saw this tutorial in Change a Dynamic Disk Back to a Basic Disk but it doesn't for my windows 8 pro...
To change a dynamic disk back to a basic disk using the Windows interface. Back up all volumes on the disk you want to convert from dynamic to basic. In Disk Management, right-click each volume on the dynamic disk you want to convert to a basic disk, and then click Delete Volume for each volume on the disk. When all volumes on the disk have been deleted, right-click the disk, and then click Convert to Basic Disk.
Additional considerations:
The disk must not have any volumes nor contain any data before you can change it back to a basic disk. If you want to keep your data, back it up or move it to another volume before you convert the disk to a basic disk. Once you change a dynamic disk back to a basic disk, you can create only partitions and logical drives on that disk.
To change a dynamic disk back to a basic disk using a command line.
Back up all volumes on the disk you want to convert from dynamic to basic. Open a command prompt and type diskpart. At the DISKPART prompt, type list disk. Make note of the disk number you want to convert to basic. At the DISKPART prompt, type select disk <disknumber>. At the DISKPART prompt, type detail disk <disknumber>. For each volume on the disk, at the DISKPART prompt, type select volume= <volumenumber> and then type delete volume. At the DISKPART prompt, type select disk <disknumber>. Specify the disk number of the disk that you want to convert to a basic disk.At the DISKPART prompt, type convert basic.
I have only 1 hard drive on my laptop so i cant delete my 'partition c:'
After finishing a big job for a friend using Windows 8, I now have some questions that I would like to getting a better understanding of. If one is working with the tiles interface, is there any way after exiting a tile; of going back to the tile interface instead of the desktop? If there is, I appear not to have found it yet.
Next I have noticed that while typing on the Internet using any browser really, I have noticed sometimes the cursor jumps back to a position where I have already typed. Have not been able to find any info on this one.how to set up remote access for me network? Having never tried it before. Also need the same type of info for possibly setting up a vpn as I am starting to travel a lot and what is involved I doing so.
I have a Toshiba laptop with windows 8 pre-installed in it. I would like to take a system image including OS, drivers and software. After that need to install windows 7 keeping windows 8 as it is. In case of failure, this image can be restored right?
If I want to remove windows 7 only how will I do it to keep windows 8 only.
I think I know what "Bluetooth" is, and since I didn't think I needed it, I disabled it in Device Manager. Also, uninstalled it in Add & Remove programs. But I just ran the 'reliability monitor' / view reliability history, and saw all the "successful" installations of "Bluetooth". There were "nine" listings. More then I removed.
I have been checking what works and doesn't work to speed up and improve performance of my computer. And the plan is very much working. The computer is working great, with average boot times under 40 seconds, and my Firefox browser is 'flying'. Since I am adding some more memory in a day or two, I'm trying to see what works and do a 'reformat', complete reinstallation of the system. Setting up everything the way I want it. "Right" the first time if you will, and then be done with any testing and just using the computer.
Anyway, obviously, I'm not touching "Bluetooth". But what is it, and why does windows 8.1 think I need it. I don't have any wireless stuff, if that's what its for. And I just assumed that if I ever did need 'wireless', I would just download something.
Dell Inspiron 3647 computer, 3GHz, 4 gig's memory, all windows updates, windows 8.1.
