Apps / Software :: Make Windows 8.1 Mouse Cursor Disappear?
Aug 3, 2014
When watching Netflix and Amazon Prime, in full-screen mode, I cannot eliminate the progress bar at the bottom, even though the mouse is off of the screen.
Is there a way to make the progress bar disappear?
Making the mouse cursor disappear would be one way. But how?
I've got a problem with my cursor disappearing when I switch from one Windows account to another. The older account got set up this past Christmas when I got the computer and the newer one got set up a couple of weeks ago. I had no problem with either account until today: now, suddenly, I'm finding that when I switch to the newer account, the cursor just flat-out disappears and doesn't come back for love or money. This leaves me unable to do very much of anything except switch back to the older account, where my cursor usually reappears. But as soon as I go back to the newer account, I've lost the cursor and can't make it come back.
For months now, I've been frustrated by the apparent oversensivity of the gesture interpretation on the touchpad. I innocently move a finger along the touchpad to get it from A to B and find that it gets interpreted as a wish to scroll or bring up a context menu or whatever. So yesterday, I disabled all but the single-finger gestures. The problem seems to have begun right after that. After various reboots and other experiments to get my cursor back on the newer account, I finally decided to re-enable the gestures as they had been on the theory that perhaps that was causing my cursor problems.
Any way to keep my cursor from disappearing in the second Windows account? And if you know how to keep the touchpad from reacting to every minute movement and interpreting it is an attempted-gesture when it is just me moving my hand.
The laptop is an ASUS K55N, which was new at 2012.
When I run the Desktop app in Windows 8 64-bit, the icon of a virtual keyboard is always displayed on the taskbar on the right. What is? How do I to make it disappear?
Sometimes when I am playing a game in fullscreen with the 360 controller, the mouse cursor will appear on the screen where I last left it. I have to jiggle the mouse and it will go away, but it comes back periodically. In games where I am using a mouse with a special look during the game, I can see flickers of the regular white windows mouse cursor. At first I thought it was just happening in Steam Big Picture Mode, but it is happening in all games.
I always have a hard time finding drivers for it. I have a few missing, which I will try to figure out later, but my main issue right now is my video driver. I can't seem to find any drivers that work on Windows 8 x64. If I cant get it to work I'll have to go back to Windows 7 I have tried the video driver listed on the HP site and it installs fine, the picture quality/resolution is perfect but as soon as I log in and move the mouse the Metro screen goes completely blank. There is absolutely nothing on the screen. I have to hit windows key + D to get to the desktop. Once I uninstall the driver it goes back to the generic microsoft driver, the picture sucks but I can use metro no problem.
I have tried the older driver version listed on that webpage and I have tried many others. None seem to work for me. how to get it to work?? It says I have an NVIDIA MCP67M Graphics/Video Driver
I have a problem in my dual boot machine. I decided to remove Linux mint 17 from my dual boot with windows 8. I used easeus partition manager to delete the partitions associated (root, home and swap). Then I got unallocated space just before my windows partition. So I moved my windows partition to the extreme left possible. Then I merged this unallocated space with my second storage partition.
These steps required reboot (specifically the moving of windows partition). When I rebooted my PC I got an error that grub was not found. I realized that I had forgot to fix MBR and load windows boot loader. So I used windows 7 recovery disk (yes windows 7 as I don't have windows8 recovery or installation disk). I got a windows 7 style boot loader instead of windows 8's graphical one which has advanced recovery options built in. But I proceeded. Then eases did its job with the partitions. After a reboot now I am stuck at a black screen after entering my password with a movable mose cursor. I can only press Ctrl+alt+del. Selecting task manager from it does nothing.
Since I don't have windows 8 disks and windows 8 boot loader I am not able to refresh or reset my PC. Neither can I shift restart my PC to get advanced boot options. One more thing to note, that while entering password, I noticed that the lock screen and account pictures have changed to defaults of a freshly installed windows.
My Windows8PC shows black screen with only mouse cursor instead of login screen. I tried chkdsk but it shows no errors. Even when i start in safe mode the screen stays black. I think it's a graphic driver problem, but i dont know how i can deactivate or delete the installed driver via cmd.
I set up cursors for the mouse pointers and save the changes, then the next time I reboot they revert back to the default settings. Is this just Windows 8?
If I use the search function, not in a browser, but in the OS itself, it will bring up a Bing page of results. This page fills the entire screen and has no apparent way to close it. This also happens when I open a PDF using the native Windows 8 reader - the pdf opens to a full page with no apparent way to minimize or close it.
That's just the beginning of the problem. I have been just ignoring what is on that full screen by opening the desktop and just going about my work (hate the tiles, but that's a different story). However, from time-to-time, when I'm moving the mouse cursor and doing nothing but moving the mouse cursor, that full screen Bing page or PDF will just pop to the front unbidden. I can obviously reopen the desktop again, but this is a hassle, as this page-behind just keeps popping up and interupting my work. Worse, once it happens, it seems to happen again and again as I'm making the first mouse movement after moving back to the desktop. I literally have to open the desktop again and again 5 or 6 times before that document behind stops popping up. When I TRY to reproduce this, I can't. I can't seem to make the document behind pop up just by moving the mouse - but when I don't want it to happen, it does.
When I opened up my start screen this morning a lot of different apps appeared, most of them were performance and diagnostics apps. I used one to see if there were any problems with the memory on my computer, after it had completed and told me that their were no problems, all of the apps disappeared. Where the apps came from and why they all disappeared.
When I first got my new laptop I made and image using Asus backup restore but all it did was make a copy of the restore partition on the hard drive. Is there a way to make an image of what the computer is with all the data and programs there are installed? I had to do a restore and then I had to reinstall everything and reload all my data files. This took a long time to do. It would be so much easier to just have an image of everything just the way it is now.
I just got Windows 8, and there are some programs that I want exclusively on my account. We have two accounts set up so far, and I just don't want to clutter up the other user's desktop with my stuff. Is there a way to assign a program to certain users?

i am wanting to install some application that i had on my windoes XP 32 bit....but when i try to install them to windows 8 64 bit, there pops out a message saying that the applications are not supported by the system .....Is there any way to make a 32 bit application to run on a 64 bit windows 8?
I love using Adobe photo shop (CS6 extended) but a major irritant is that the Adobe menu text always seems too small. (The Photoshop menus - not Windows). how to make the text size bigger.
the second image shows the text in the drop down fine -- deliberately made bigger to explain what I mean - but the Photoshop titles are tiny and hard to read -- and the 3rd image is what you see when using Bridge -- The image browser built into photo shop --
When I first installed Windows 8 there was the IE tile, with lighter blue background and white icon. Then I installed Chrome, at first start I used it as my default browser, mostly in Windows 8 mode, sometimes in desktop mode, but it always had the grey background tile with the Chrome icon. I wanted to make new tiles for my non-metro apps with OblyTile, and because I use IE sometimes I made one for that too, but after that my Chrome tile became a standard non-metro style tile with blue bg and smaller icon, using it first opens the desktop then the metro-mode chrome, and the original IE tile (I kept it from the beginning) reversed to the original, blue bg, white icon style, but Chrome is the default browser.
reverse Chrome to the gray bg tile and make it open the metro-mode without first opening the desktop?
Am "using new HP laptop 2000-2d27dx Windows 8.1. Only way I shutdown or restart is going to "charms" panel - Settings - then click Power off icon and choose Sleep, Shutdown or Restart. Is there a way to put a SHORTCUT for Shutdown and Restart on the desktop and/or the Start screen?
On Windows 8.1 I installed 8Gadgetpack to bring back the Windows 7 sidebar, and for the most part it works great except for one thing, when I click show desktop (or press win+D) it hides the gadgets as well. Is there a way to prevent this without having to press win+G all the time after showing desktop?
This is a new computer and OS for me, so I may just not be familiar with how it is SUPPOSED to work. When we got the computer I loaded Office, Photoshop, Browsers, etc. I set up the tiles on the start menu. But since the computer rebooted (and every time since then), the tiles have disappeared and the computer acts like its the first time I've used Firefox ("do you want to make this your default browser?").
Each time I reboot, Word is still on the computer but it has to activate and set my initials as if I've never opened it on the computer before. The only hint of something I think I could do differently is that when I'm on the " PC Settings(?)" screen under Sync options it tells me I am logged into a temporary profile. I can't figure out how to change this though.
I have some trouble with thumbnail windows in tasks bar. A few days ago, maybe after official last windows update, but not sure, I found a very vexing bug in task bar. When I hover on task bar icons, the thumbnail windows pop-up and when I hover in it all the preview windows is goind under the opened windows but the thumbnail windows is still accessible so I even can close it but I can't see it. It's very inconvenient especially with couple of opened windows.
I am running Windows 8.1 Pro X64. Recently I have noticed that Notification Area Icons for some apps have disappeared.
A reinstall or a repair install sometimes brings them back but then they disappear after a while, and usually after the next reboot.
Have checked forums for the affected products and the only solution offered there is reinstall or repair install. I very much doubt that this issue is down to the products. It is almost certainly a Windows problem but of course Windows Tech Support offers nothing other than the usual banal references to largely irrelevant "how to" articles.
When I wanted to fix my Windows 8.1 because it wouldn't start, I saw ALL my restore points had disappeared. This has happened to me with all Windows operating systems I've had: Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and perhaps XP. When I need them most, they're gone, ALL OF THEM (not only those replaced for newer ones).
Last time this happened, Windows 8.1 eventually fixed my system by applying "attempting repairs" (however this fix is called, it's an option when 8.1 cannot boot).
But why do the restore points disappear in Windows 7, 8 and 8.1? Can I save at least one to a disk or something? Instead of creating a system image, which is heavy and slow?.
Using Livemail in Windows 8.1 for no apparent reason the content of all messages in one or more storage folders will disappear. The message header is OK, but the contents of all messages in that particular folder are identical. It seems to occur only when I drag a new message from the inbox or sent box into the storage folder. And not every time.
I have tried restores the message contents. Clearly the WLM storage file is messed up - is there any way to restore or recover it?
I need to switch back and forth between an open pdf file, MS Word, and websites. I can open the pdf file fine. But if I switch to another task, the pdf file disappears. There is no icon for the pdf file on the taskbar. So then I have to open it again from scratch. What am I doing wrong?
I have a new Microsoft Surface Pro with Windows 8 X64 and I have a few folders on my desktop that have custom icons. The problem is that some of the folders revert to the regular folder icon at every reboot yet a couple remain customized. It's the same folders every time and I cant figure it out.
Out of nowhere my charm bars will disappear and even the right-click on the windows symbol on the bottom left corner doesn't work anymore. I then have to ctrl+alt+del and sign out then sign in again then things magically go back to normal.
