Apps / Software :: How To Make 32bit Application To Run On 6 Bit
Aug 13, 2013
i am wanting to install some application that i had on my windoes XP 32 bit....but when i try to install them to windows 8 64 bit, there pops out a message saying that the applications are not supported by the system .....Is there any way to make a 32 bit application to run on a 64 bit windows 8?
I have purchased notebook with OEM version of Windows 8 64bit. The system is not professional version of Windows 8. I would like to run 32 bit application which is not possible to install it on 64bit system.
I have accidently set my .ext default program to Notepad and I want to change it back to an unknown application I have tried deleting it in regedit and it just sets it back to notepad even when I restart my computer afterwards
I d/ld the trial version of Win 8 32 bit specifically to see if a DOS program that I have would run in Win 8 32bit.
To my surprise it doesn't run, or at least run correctly. I get the warning about running a 16 bit program so I OK it.
Then it tells me the program can't be run in a window or full screen. It might as well say it won't freaking run at all that would be more accurate!
Odd that PC World Mag touts Win 8 as being able to "run your DOS programs" just like you did before! There was also a reference to something being in Control Panel to enable 16 bit programs.... again no joy there I see nothing in CP in my trial version.
Sure I can run the program in a VM like I do on Win 7 and yes I can run it on XP Pro just fine. But it would be nice to have correct information about what the OS can and can't do.
The Direct3D acceleration for 32bit Windows applications is disabled. I need to enable this so that most games and Direct3D using Windows Store apps start working again.
How it went:
Previously, Microsoft WDDM v1.0 drivers were installed (from Windows Update) and the system had no problems. Everything was working, well, almost everything. That was when I installed Minecraft. As I launched it, an error popped up saying 'pixel format not accelerated'. I researched on that and found out that it was an OpenGL issue. I downloaded and launched GPU Caps Viewer and found out OpenGL v1.1 on my system, whereas Minecraft needed 1.4 or more to run. I further researched and found that the Microsoft's WDDM v1.0 drivers supported the maximum OpenGL v1.1 (well, at least for my GPU). However on Intel's official site, it said my GPU CAN support OpenGL v1.4. And also on Minecraft forums someone said that Intel's drivers were needed for older GPU's in order for Minecraft to work. So I looked at the Download Center, but the latest drivers for my GPU were for Windows 7 32 and 64bit not Windows 8 [URL] .....
Upon thinking that at least Windows 7 drivers would work on Windows 8 if not XP's or Vista's, I downloaded the Windows 7 x64 drivers. They installed without an issue. Restarted my PC. Checked GPU Cap Viewer again, and voila! OpenGL version 1.4 was displayed. I re-installed Minecraft and it worked like a charm! Also checked another OpenGL animation software Blender and it was also working . But then I noticed something. Some Windows Store games and apps were exiting as soon as opened them. Also all the desktop games I have e.g Warcraft showed some Direct3D or DirectX related error. All of these applications were 32bit.
I then opened up "dxdiag".The 64bit version said "Enabled" for all three as you can see below:
But when I opened the 32bit one, first it said this:
And then on the display tab, Direct3D acceleration was disabled:
What have I tried:
1- As seen from some tutorials around the web, I went to Advanced Display settings but no troubleshoot tab was found:
So yeah, no moving the slider to right side to give 'Full' Direct3D/Hardware acceleration. Those XP days are long gone.
2- As stated above, I have updated the video drivers to 'Intel's' latest version. ( Also tried the second latest version just in case).
3- Updated the DirectX through web setup. It now says that newer or equivalent version is already installed. Also installed DirectX 9.0c (June 2010) all to no avail.
4- As referred by many people, I have checked this link: direct3D acceleration is not available in Windows 7 - Microsoft Community (look at the answer) There is no "SoftwareOnly" registry key that I could change from 0 to 1.
5- Note that this problem persist only in 32bit Direct3D using applications NOT 64bit. The driver works well for the 64bit apps.
Now from what is stated above, it is clear that this issue caused by Intel's driver but it may also be a Windows problem too. And I think I am currently running out of options here. WDDM drivers are nice but wouldn't it be great if you could have OpenGL v1.4 along with Direct3D enabled? So I could run things like Minecraft. As a side note, a year ago I had Windows 7 32bit installed having latest Intel's drivers and with Direct3D enabled without an issue. Now this problem either could be because of Windows 8 or drivers.
As in image,i put a shortcut in startup folder for current user, that also appear in msconfig-> startup with status enabled but application is never run,If I go to that folder and dbl click on shortcut,it works, but on system startup ..nothing
I just recently changed my OS to Win 8.1 (from Win 7) and a java application I have (*.jar) is pointing to Python to open it. This is obviously wrong. If I download the latest version of Java and install it, the icon changes and the app works great. The "jar" externsion is associated with java. When the PC is rebooted a few days later, the icon is now the Python one and "jar" is now associated with Python.
How can I get it to "stick" that *.jar is associated with Java?
I have very annoying problem with Windows 8. The problem is in metro control panel "PC Settings". I don't know what is the reason for removing all apps control in the Notifications menu.
I had this problem so many times and the only fix for this that I know - is to create a new microsoft account or to do clean install (which I don't like to try).
I'm unable to install applications from windows 8 store. Now whenever I try to install, error is shown. But previously there was no any problem in installing. I use windows 8.
Possible to open multiple instances of the desktop app or if there are any third party applications which could add such functionality. I would like to use the built in side by side app feature but for programs running in the desktop so I can have something like notepad++ or visual studio open on the left side of the screen and have a steam or twitch chat open on the right so I can free up my second monitor for full screen viewing of videos/games/websites. I know I can do this by resizing the windows manually but it is very clunky and harder to manage when I want to close a program or open new applications.
On my old Win 7 and Win Vista and Win XP laptops I've had no problems opening and viewing my old MPEG-2 video files. My new laptop running Win 8.1 will not allow me to view them.
Windows Media Player will only recognize them as audio files - not video - though the sound will play. Real Player is the same - the application will open and begin playing a file but only as audio file. I've tried the built in Toshiba media player and it shows errors and won't open the files at all.
Again - these are conforming MPEG-2 NTSC 760X480 video file (old analog home movies) captured using an ATI video card dongle to connect to my video source and an old version of capture application ULead Video Studio. These files conform in every way to MPEG-2 standard/format and will run on all of our PC EXCEPT the new one running Win 8.
I bought and loaded a video editing application from Corel and it will open and play these files perfectly so why won't Win Media Player and Real Player recognize them when running behind Windows 8?
I am making applications with Live code in Windows 8 and when saving them as exe's they were launching then due to some bad code I had to end the explorer process and reboot my PC and now when I try to run these programs I get the error The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application.I tried using sfc /scannow and it found errors but could not repair them.
I have uploaded the log file. With system restore as a last resort.
Windows 8.1 32bit OS. My audio/video editing needs are relatively simple, yet I only seem to find programs which are insultingly simplistic and don't offer the functions I need; needlessly overly complicated, or they do not work just right and are literally frustrating to use.
I am in need of a video editing software. It has to not have the 4 main problems that I keep running into, which all of the ones I've tried have to some degree.
1. Output file sizes: If I import a video which is 87mb, my output options shouldn't all be several hundred mb's or a few gb's. Why can't these programs just import and output files which are like-for-like? If I'm cutting parts out of the video, then the resulting file should be just under 87mb. If I'm joining two equal sized videos together on a timeline, then the resulting file should be 174mb (the total of the two 87mb source files).
2. Output video resolution: If my input/source file fills the entire screen when played in full screen, then I don't want my edited file to fill-up a much smaller area in the center of the screen with large black borders around it, and sometimes the loss of visual quality is huge. Again why can't they just do like-for-like? Windows Movie Maker is a swine for doing this.
3. Quick seeking on the timeline, ability to 'cut'/'split' video into pieces easily: Some programs are hard to quickly move through the timeline as the movie is playing in the preview area (I believe this is called seeking, I may be wrong). This can be usefull if you're trying to find a specific point in the video without blindly clicking the timeline at random. Sony Vegas 9's always gives me issues when trying to do this, by not allowing me to seek properly, or jumping my arrow to the start/end of a clip and I have to start seeking all over again.
Only the old Windows Movie Maker had 'cutting' correctly in my opinion, as it was an easy button to press on the preview window, instead of having to right-click the timeline at just the right spot, or go into the File,Edit,View menus every time you want to cut a part of the video.
4. Ability to separate audio track and manipulate it: I have a downloaded video, and something is seriously wrong with the audio. Not only is it out of sync with the video (which in itself I could probably fix with some faffing around), but it's also decreased in speed. Media Player Classic lets me increase the speed again, but there is no way to save the audio track as such, and I haven't found any other audio/video editing software that would let me increase the speed of the audio.
When I first got my new laptop I made and image using Asus backup restore but all it did was make a copy of the restore partition on the hard drive. Is there a way to make an image of what the computer is with all the data and programs there are installed? I had to do a restore and then I had to reinstall everything and reload all my data files. This took a long time to do. It would be so much easier to just have an image of everything just the way it is now.
I love using Adobe photo shop (CS6 extended) but a major irritant is that the Adobe menu text always seems too small. (The Photoshop menus - not Windows). how to make the text size bigger.
the second image shows the text in the drop down fine -- deliberately made bigger to explain what I mean - but the Photoshop titles are tiny and hard to read -- and the 3rd image is what you see when using Bridge -- The image browser built into photo shop --
I just got Windows 8, and there are some programs that I want exclusively on my account. We have two accounts set up so far, and I just don't want to clutter up the other user's desktop with my stuff. Is there a way to assign a program to certain users?
When watching Netflix and Amazon Prime, in full-screen mode, I cannot eliminate the progress bar at the bottom, even though the mouse is off of the screen.
Is there a way to make the progress bar disappear?
Making the mouse cursor disappear would be one way. But how?
When I first installed Windows 8 there was the IE tile, with lighter blue background and white icon. Then I installed Chrome, at first start I used it as my default browser, mostly in Windows 8 mode, sometimes in desktop mode, but it always had the grey background tile with the Chrome icon. I wanted to make new tiles for my non-metro apps with OblyTile, and because I use IE sometimes I made one for that too, but after that my Chrome tile became a standard non-metro style tile with blue bg and smaller icon, using it first opens the desktop then the metro-mode chrome, and the original IE tile (I kept it from the beginning) reversed to the original, blue bg, white icon style, but Chrome is the default browser.
reverse Chrome to the gray bg tile and make it open the metro-mode without first opening the desktop?
Am "using new HP laptop 2000-2d27dx Windows 8.1. Only way I shutdown or restart is going to "charms" panel - Settings - then click Power off icon and choose Sleep, Shutdown or Restart. Is there a way to put a SHORTCUT for Shutdown and Restart on the desktop and/or the Start screen?
On Windows 8.1 I installed 8Gadgetpack to bring back the Windows 7 sidebar, and for the most part it works great except for one thing, when I click show desktop (or press win+D) it hides the gadgets as well. Is there a way to prevent this without having to press win+G all the time after showing desktop?
I want to make a backup copy of SUPERAntiSpyware on a dvd. I can only get the download as there is no longer the option to get a backup disk. How do I get a dvd backup copy from the download ...
I've recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1, but for some reason it installed Windows 8.1 32-bit, instead of the 64 bit version. I've left it this way for a week or so but some of the applications I use need to be 64 bit.
Basically, how do I upgrade to a 64 bit version of Windows 8.1?
I downloaded from Microsoft (so no disc) Windows 8 32bit. Didn't realise my 64bit compatible Dell laptop was not using all its 8gb of RAM then found out it couldn't with a 32bit OS.
Its just when I run some tasks like Handbrake conversion or DVD conversion processes it slows my web browsing to a snails pace and someone suggested I needed more RAM!...thus my investigating why only 2.99gb was being used.
Have I got to fork out for a totally new licence?..I can't remember if when I bought this version it asked me if I wanted 32 or 64 version!
