I have a laptop that came with W7 64bit. My headphone set worked fine - sound and mic. I upgraded to Windows 8, and now there's no sound or mic. I've followed various Windows 8 checklists but the system says everything is working. The same headset works fine on my WXP laptop.
I downloaded and installed Realtek High Definition Audio Driver for Windows 8 64bit. No change.
I have the laptop as stated above, i have had it a week and the user before me had decided to put on 7 instead of 8. i completely wiped and restored to windows 8.1, installed all sammy drivers and ensured it is all up to date.
the laptop had huge instability issues, the hdd was on its way out as mbr was damaged and the heads were ticking badly. then i found the ram was not secured in the sockets properly too. so i fixed it all!
Anyways back to the problem. i have the realtek hd audio drivers installed from sammy, reinstalled the ones from realtek themselves and still nothing.
Main issue, mic and speakers built in work and are fully detected. but the microphone port and headphone port are not detected, no matter what i plug into them.
Few days ago I have installed Windows 8, but found that there is no sound, windows can't detect audio card. I tried to find audio drivers for my card, but they don't work in Windows 8. But when I was trying to fix sound problem, I found that there is no administrative tools.
When I press to "administrative tools" windows gives me an error: "C:userspublicглавное менюпрограммыadministrative tools refers to location that is unavailable..."
After that I tried to find directory myself, and found it in C:usersUserNameStart MenuProgramsAdministrative tools, but there is no any files. What to do now?
I have recently upgraded my Envy 17 to Windows 8.1 and am now having real problems getting the DVD / Blu-ray to recognize any discs. I have done a search on the HP website but with not much luck, a lot of the time it just takes me back to the search page and the support pages are only for Windows 7.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed windows 8 on my MacBookPro with UEFI support, but I can't enable audio. I know that apple use BIOS emulation for windows and the assign different Hardware ID's for devices.
With BIOS emulation ID is:
HDAUDIOFUNC_01&VEN_1013&DEV_4206&SUBSYS_106B5300&REV_1003
Without emulation ID is:
PCIVEN_8086&DEV_1E20&SUBSYS_72708086&REV_04.
I tried changing inf file and it detected the required audio card driver, but it shows that device cannot start. It's Cirrus Audio CS4206B (AB83) sound card, but without emulation it shows it as intel audio card. It would be easier to get back to bootcamp, but I really want to make this work.
After upgrading to 8.1 all of my previously listed devices are no longer listed under devices... in fact there are no devices listed. I can also not add a device. If I look in device manager they are listed there and if I go to print the printer shows up and I can print. The screenshot below shows what I see when I open "Devices and Printers" in control panel. The biggest issue is not being able to add devices like Bluetooth speaker.

I uninstalled the IDT driver and its software from device manager to roll back to an earlier version to solve a problem.. that didnt work, so i reinstalled the original drivers and it's software as both downloaded from hHP ( see me specs) and the one I had backed up from the original install. It should not have touched the Dolby application at all but now i cant find it? I used to open it by typing in Dolby in the search but that now has no Dobly results. I tried a regedit search and It didnt even find Dolby.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm getting this random clicking sound(more of a tick-tock-ish) that's coming from within my system. I'm not sure where but it's adequately loud for me to notice. It just goes 2 clicks(tick-1 tick-2) then goes away. It doesn't have a specific time frame, like it doesn't happen every how many minutes or so.
I actually wasn't worried until I've read some sites that it could be a start of a so to be hdd failure. If it is, is there any way I could fix it? Or at least how long do I have before it goes total bye-bye on me?

My work PC was dead. Not sure what happened, but after replacing the PSU it worked again.But I have two weird issues:
1. USB Ports: Plug and play doesn't work. If I connect a USB device in Windows, nothing happens. But if it's plugged before I boot, both the BIOS and Windows recognize it.
2. Internal Sound Card: It's enabled in the BIOS, it's recognized in Device Manager, but there's no sound. I've tried uninstalling and updating the drivers with no luck.

OS: Windows 8.1 Core x86
Motherboard: Asus P5KPL-AM SE (latest BIOS)
PSU: Generic 500W (the old one was 450W, and everything worked fine).

I recently upgraded my HP Touchsmart IQ500 from Vista Home Premium to Windows 8 Pro. Aside from the lack of a media center or otherwise out-of-the-box-inability for DVD playback I've been enjoying the change. I solved the DVD problem with VLC, but I cannot figure out how to get my microphone to work now. It was fine before the upgrade, and now there's just silence when trying to Skype or record otherwise.

Dell true to form has made the cmos non-upgradeable for use with Windows 8. So, with regrets, I need to know what motherboard, cpu and sound cards, memory, etc, I will need in order to upgrade this elephant.
Then of course, I need to know if my graphics card, NVIDIA GeForce 6200, power supply 250W, etc are sufficient. The power supply is welded to the frame of the box, so will be a pill to change out. I also need suggestions on which Sound card, since there isn't one now. It too is part of the motherboard.
I guess I should also ask if this upgrade is even possible. Is WIN 8 backward compatible with xp software?
Just upgraded to Win 8.1 Pro from Win 8 on a Dell Latitude E6530. Everything was working fine; post upgrade, system does not recognize any of my SD cards upon insertion. [Don't even see a drive letter show up.] All other peripheral storage devices are fine.

Originally came with windows vista 32-bit, so recently I upgraded to windows 8.1 32 bit after about a month the track pad and keyboard BOTH came un-responsive, and in the device manager, it's coming up with a "COPROCESSOR" error.
Yesterday, I clean-installed Windows 8 Pro x86 on an old Dell Vostro 1400 laptop which had been running Windows 7 Ultimate, and it activated and ran fine, without even a single exclamation point in Device Manager. I applied the update necessary to make the Store offer 8.1 and proceeded to install it as I've done on a couple other machines. After downloading the thing, it errored out with:
Couldn't install Windows 8.1
Contact your PC manufacturer to see if you can upgrade the System BIOS
When I clicked the OK button, it then gave me the informative and grammar-challenged error box:
Something happened and the Windows 8.1 couldn't be installed. Please try again. Error code: 0xc1900104

Ever the optimist, I clicked Try again, and of course, it proceeded to download all over again from scratch, only to error out in the same way. I then downloaded all the Windows 8 updates, although just the one had been necessary on my other machines that successfully upgraded to 8.1, and tried again, only to get the same result.
Today, I've discovered the Windows 8.1 Compatibility Assistant, which avoids the lengthy download of the upgrade every time (Microsoft, maybe you should run it implicitly before downloading 3 GB of transient data), and it tells me:
This PC doesn't meet system requirements
Contact your PC manufacturer to see if you can upgrade the System BIOS
Obviously, no BIOS updates are available, and what exactly is the problem here with my BIOS. The obvious googling turned up nothing except some people with Sony Vaios that had the same problem, which was corrected with a BIOS update, and of course, there is no information on what their BIOS update does to make the 8.1 upgrade possible.
I've just upgraded from win8 to win 8.1 using the windows update (store), my questions are :
1. Can the ISO file that was automatically downloaded by the system during windows 8 upgrade to 8.1 be saved or backed up? the download was about 2.6 GB.
2. If so can the backed up file be used to do a "clean install" in future on the same machine?
Approximately every 10min my Windows 8 do a sound. The sound is little bit like when you connect something to usb port.
Everything works well and theoretically it isn't big deal. Practically is does hell from watching of anything. When I watch movie, serial or just some video on youtube this sound turns player's sound off. Sometimes its silenced only on short time but mostly it's permanent. Only one solution in this situation is to reset movie player or reload web page.
In every case when I hear this sound, I can find Surrogate process in task manager. I think it can has connectivity.
A couple of weeks ago I upgraded my computer from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1. Just recently I haven't been receiving audio. I have tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall it. I have performed a clean boot. I have even tried system restore. Nothing wants to work. I have tried updates for drivers through Dell Support, but Dell doesn't detect Windows 8.1.

I recently put this computer together as a cheap media machine. Everything worked. It connected via onboard NIC to the internet, it had sound. No problems.
Then I upgraded by adding another stick of RAM. Same module 4gb. and all hell breaks loose.
I lost lost and internet. Media sound service couldn't start. Said something along the lines that found new hardward. And it wasn't communicating with my NIC card anymore.. I tried updated the drivers. No joy.
I contacted Biostar and asked for an issue. They recommend me to update drives and then reset bios setting to factory defaults. I tried that. No joy.
I then RMA's the vendor and got another mobo. Installed it and it had the same issue. No sound no internet.
Last nite I decided maybe I should just reinstall windows, but now my computer freezes on the bios screen.
I recently got a new pair of headphones
And the sound isn't perfect
So I wanted to know if there is a equalizer to change windows sounds is it happens
The in built one isn't great

View 3 Replies View Relatedit's possible to get sound enhancements on a computer that doesn't have them built in. What I mean by this is when you go to Volume Mixer > (click the audio device) > Enhancements tab, you see things like Bass Boost and Pitch Shift. If a computer doesn't have these options, can I get them to work in order to change the pitch, for example? If it can't be done, what third party application can I use to change the pitch of the audio coming out of the speaker so everything sounds squeaky? Is there a program or setting that does that? Also, the computer had Beats Audio with Beats Audio Control Panel.
