Every 10 Minutes Windows 8 Do A Sound?
Aug 29, 2013
Approximately every 10min my Windows 8 do a sound. The sound is little bit like when you connect something to usb port.
Everything works well and theoretically it isn't big deal. Practically is does hell from watching of anything. When I watch movie, serial or just some video on youtube this sound turns player's sound off. Sometimes its silenced only on short time but mostly it's permanent. Only one solution in this situation is to reset movie player or reload web page.
In every case when I hear this sound, I can find Surrogate process in task manager. I think it can has connectivity.

I have Windows 8.1 x64 and the following:
Radeon HD5450
Samsung TV connected via HDMI to graphics card
AMD HDMI High Definition Audio Device
Realtek HD audio
I have a strange problem that has not always been there but just recently if I don't have any sounds for about 5 minutes the HDMI audio seems to go into some sort of suspended mode and when I click on (generate) a sound (either system or music etc) it takes about 30 seconds for the sound to actually appear (manifest itself) through the Samsung TV speakers.
At first I thought it might be some conflict with the Realtek HD audio so I have disabled this (mobo built-in sound) in the BIOS and uninstalled the realtek drivers. This did not work.
I then thought it was probably an update to the Sound drivers or the graphics drivers for the ATI / AMD Sound card. I have installed the latest catalyst drivers and this did not work. I then fully uninstalled the catalyst drivers including the HDMI Audio and installed an earlier version 9.2.00 from 2012. This did not work either.
The only Playback Audio Device I have in the Sound settings is Digital Audio (HDMI) and I have tried disbling all audio enhancements. This did not work.
Please note that this happens even if I am using the computer (i.e. the screen can be on all of the time and it still happens after a few minutes).
Other things I have tried:
Power Config - disabled Link State Power Management for the PCIe card
One think I have observed (and I am not sure if this is a symptom or a cause) - The "Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation" process uses about 3-4% CPU while the 30 seconds or so elapses between the sound being invoked and it playing through the speakers. the rest of the sstem is relatively in idle. I can reproduce this by clicking on the sound and adjusting the volume a tad. It is meant to make an immediate "bing" sound to show the sound level is clicked or changed.
If I wait the 30 seconds then the sound eventually comes and then if I click on it again (or do other sound related things) then the sounds are instantaneous. Its only of I leave it 5 minutes or so with no sound activity. If I wait, say, 2 minutes the sound is instant too so long as their has been a sound event in the prior 5 minutes or so.

I have the laptop as stated above, i have had it a week and the user before me had decided to put on 7 instead of 8. i completely wiped and restored to windows 8.1, installed all sammy drivers and ensured it is all up to date.
the laptop had huge instability issues, the hdd was on its way out as mbr was damaged and the heads were ticking badly. then i found the ram was not secured in the sockets properly too. so i fixed it all!
Anyways back to the problem. i have the realtek hd audio drivers installed from sammy, reinstalled the ones from realtek themselves and still nothing.
Main issue, mic and speakers built in work and are fully detected. but the microphone port and headphone port are not detected, no matter what i plug into them.

Here's some extra, straight forward information;
Machine - HP Pavilion G6

Problem - Clock (System Time) keeps changing incorrectly after about 10 to 30 minutes.

Every five minutes I recieve the BSOD and it says critical_process_died. The weird thing is, I reset my computer back to factory settings and as soon as I booted it did it again... I got my computer to work for like 10 minutes and as soon as I thought it stopped for good, it did it again.
My PC sometimes crashes during bootup too.
Edit: I was just downloading something and halfway in it said something like "Failed to download and install files". Then the taskbar in the bottom of my screen disapeared and my computer got the BSOD saying "Critical_Process_Died"...

I have an old laptop from 2007. I bought windows 8 license (was using W7) and it was working great for the few months. After that it stopped. Now if I want to boot it, or restart it or shut it down it takes at least 30 minutes which huge sound coming from it.
I got a new laptop today, but I still want to use my old one. As I think a laptop is a girl, it has to be perfect
It takes 1 minute to enter the windows 8. And 29 minutes to enter the metro layout (it keeps loading).
What do I have to do.

Yesterday I upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 on my Dell XPS desktop (i7-3770, 8 GB RAM). Now, when I shutdown, sleep, or hibernate, it takes over 2 minutes for the unit to do what used to take very little time. I reinstalled the video driver (both latest and two most recent version) and each time things are back to normal the first time I do it, but after that, the 2 minute, 12 second, or so, delay reappears. I have a NVidea 620 graphics card. My Acer laptop using its built-in Intel graphics system does not have this problem and never did. I am running Classic Shell on both machines. My desktop was fine before upgrading to Windows 8.1.

My PC ignores all the power plan settings and hibernates after approximately 5 minutes without input. The computer also ignores active background processes.
My Windows Home Server backups are failing because the PC wakes up for the scheduled backup, but then ignores the process and goes to sleep in the middle of the backup. It also means that I cannot listen to internet radio or watch video unless I keep the PC awake with keyboard/mouse input.
This problem appears to have started after I installed the 8.1 update for Windows. I've tried adjusing all the power plan settings, creating a new power plan, enabling and disabling screen savers, etc.

My partner's PC decided to start acting up on windows xp, so after a few attempts to fix it we decided to go down the windows 8 option since it was on special offer at the time. After a few installations failed to boot properly (i.e. they'd install and then crash) we did a complete format and reinstall. As it stands we can get into windows 8, it works fine for a few minutes and then it crashes (no BSOD, just a freeze, no mouse movement etc). We've tried a couple of fixes (ran "bcdedit /set disabledynamictick no" and yes in cmd and refreshing the install) unfortunately nothing seems to stop it from crashing 3-5 minutes into the boot.
Specs are as follows
ASROCK N68C-S UCC (flashed to 1.6 latest bios)
AMD Phenom 8550 2.2ghz triplecore
4 GB nonspecific memory (2x2GB
ATi 5770 Gfx
Samsung 350gb hard drive
TP-LINK TL-WN851ND Wireless card
430W Corsair Power supply

My Windows 8.1 pro desktop system,is going to sleep after a few mins of staying idle.I was having windows 7 before this and I never faced any issue. It was recently that I upgraded my OS to windows 8.1 pro. This is a clean install of the OS.
By staying idle, I mean, I am reading some newspaper or some pdf file or something like that online without any activitiy on the keyboard. After a few mins, it automatically goes into sleep mode. This is making me mad, as I could be in the middle of something while reading documents and it goes into sleep.
In the power options, I have changed it to High Performance plan, I have verified that, "Turn of Display" and "Put the computer to sleep" options are "Never". When I click on "Advanced Power Settings" , I can see that , under sleep, "sleep after" is never. Allow Hybrid sleep is "Off". Hibernate after is "Never".
I just wanted to add, that the event viewer shows the following entries...
The system is entering sleep.
Sleep Reason: System Idle
The kernel power manager has initiated a shutdown transition.
The system firmware has changed the processor's memory type range registers (MTRRs) across a sleep state transition (S4). This can result in reduced resume performance.
The system has returned from a low power state.
Sleep Time: 2014-06-21T05:51:33.970250600Z
Wake Time: 2014-06-21T05:52:23.968079800Z
I also tried to create a new power profile but this did not work. I ran sfc scanow and also fixed errors. I have all latest windows updates. I have also tried DISM
I can't even read something without fear and I have to keep moving my mouse every minute and I can't even concentrate.

I have Inspiron 15R SE laptop with Windows 8 OS and use it for about 3 weeks.
Yesterday I have noticed that system has been automatically restarted when I was playing video game. Later it was working fine, however when I shut it down, it did not wanted to turn off. The screen was black, however the light of power button, power and drive led was on. I have tried to click power button, ESC or CTRL+ALT+DELETE keys few times, however laptop was not reacting at all. Finally I have powered it off by holding power button for a longer time.
Today, I have noticed that OS is starting up, however when I start using it all applications starts to freeze. It seems like freeze starts from standard system windows like explorer, administrative tools, task bar or task manager. While I cannot use those apps, other running applications are responsive for a little bit longer time. Finally nothing responses expect of mouse. If I press power button, laptop manages sometimes to go to stand by, however after turning it on, it is still frozen. Only the drive led is blinking from time to time.
I have restarted it by holding power key a few times and tried to monitor it when GUI was still responsive. During that, I have noticed that just after startup the disk usage is 100% for a longer time (mostly used by McAfee On-Access Scanner service or system), however later it goes down to about 5%. When OS becomes not responsive nothing seems to be heavily used.
At one time I have managed to check that Task Manager windows is not responsive because it waits for svchost (LocalServiceNetworkRestricted) process. There was however no information for other locked processes.
I would add that the system restore to last recovery point ...

I have a Dell XPS 8700 Desktop, has 8GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive, running Windows 8.1 which I had installed the day it came out..the PC I purchased in September 2013..for the past few weeks I have noticed how when I shut down the pc that it can take up to 4 minutes to shut down, the monitor will go black but the power button the tower will remain white til it turns off, it used to turn off in a matter of seconds, now its minutes..same issue for restart, takes about 3 minutes to restart and no one from Dell can figure out what the problem is..all I had installed in December were updates from microsoft thats it, other than that nothing new has been installed. Yesterday I got a notification from Dell on my PC notifying me that I should update my BIOS which was A4 to A6 which I did and still the same issue..talked to five technicians and no one can figure it out, been told maybe its software related and I need to reformat the hard drive, I feel that would be a waste of time, if there was an actual cause I would do it, but to format my hard drive with no known cause of this problem would be stupid, it would just happen again.

My PC ignores all power settings and hibernates after approx 5 minutes of user inactivity. It is a Dell Vostro 200, which I had been running successfully on Windows 8 Pro. The problem appears to have been the result of upgrading to Windows 8.1.
Regardless of the power scheme settings, the PC goes into hibernation after 5 minutes of "inactivity"; i.e. if there is no user keyboard or mouse input. The hibernation also ignores most background processes, so it will go into hibernation even if I am streaming internet radio. I use Windows Home Server, and the daily backup process is currently failing because the PC wakes up to start the backup, but hibernates after 5 minutes, in the middle of the backup process.
The only exception I can find is YouTube - hibernation does not occur if I watch a video longer than 5 minutes, even if there is no user input.
I have tried various suggestions from other forums, without success:
The video drivers up to date.
BIOS is up to date, and ACPI is set to S3.
I have run power settings troubleshooter which reset power settings to "Balanced".
I have tried setting power to "Always on"
I have tried a clean boot process, disabling all start ups and other services, but the problem still occurs As noted above, the PC was previously working fine, and the only change I can identify is applying the Windows 8.1 upgrade.

I've had certain problem with my Windows 8 installation . Let me summarize the entire scenario but before that below are my System Details .
System :- Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 Laptop .
O/S :- Windows 8.1 .
I formatted my system yesterday and installed Windows 8.1 via MSDN ISO . Installed Dell Drivers and a few programs like Norton 360 etc , after which i shutdown my system yesterday .
When i opened my system today , i was shocked to see Preparing automatic repair message on the Dell boot screen . It tried Automatic repair because it said that Windows was unable to boot properly . However , Automatic repair was unable to do anything .
After that i shutdown my system again and then again powered it on. This time it booted to Windows but took about 5 min to get to the password screen . After booting to Desktop mode , i tried to open chrome , task manager etc , but nothing opened , and the system was painfully slow up until 10 min . After which everything was normal .
Tried to open Event log and it also crashed. I again restarted my system and this time it was lightening fast . Tried to shutdown and restart 2-3 times more , and it was fast all these times .
I've attached a dump of all my logs using SF Diagnostic tool ....

I am using Windows Defender in Windows 8. I see that the Defender becomes only active after a few minutes.
If the Defender is activated before than every thing is in red , and unable to start it. The fault code is than 0x80070426.
But as explained already after a few minutes everthing is ok.
Question:
*does this mean that during that time one is not protected?
*maybe is it technically as such?

I just got a new Win 8 computer. I love it, however it wakes from sleep mode every 15 minutes on the dot. It will wake for about 2 minutes than sleep again.
Is this something it should do in order to get some air flow every once in a while or can I stop it from doing this? I have searched around online and tried everything i have come across. I turned off the setting that allows programs to wake the computer, as well as made sure the ethernet connection doesn't wake it.

It doesn't fall asleep. I have it set to turn the display off at 10 minutes, and to go into sleep mode at 15. That works perfectly!
But, how when your PC is starting up or waking up, and when the cursor first displays, it works intermittently? You can try to move it around, and it doesn't react very well. Not until your PC is fully awake.
This happens every time I don't touch my keyboard or mouse for between 3 and 4 minutes. Then it takes about 20 seconds to fully wake up after I touch the keyboard or mouse. Drives me nuts!
I don't have any unusual or unknown programs on my PC, and I don't believe it's malware. Otherwise my PC runs great. Fast.
