View 9 Replies View RelatedLately my computer has been distorting sounds and been going slower than it used to. When I restart the computer, the amount of distortions/small sizzling sounds is at a minimum, but it increases as I continue to use the computer. I googled how to fix this and one of the suggestions was to run a system file checker. The result of the scan was that I have some corrupted files that the computer could not remove. I also go a sfcdetails.txt file that showed all the information in the scan. How to find the corrupted files/what I should do to remove the files. I have attached the sfcdetails.txt file and a screen shot of the SFC results right from the command prompt.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt happens at random times but i'll be playing a video on my PC then suddenly it completely freezes with the sound all distorted and looping. Then it goes to the BSOD screen and says there was a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION error and the PC restarts.
Here is the dmp files:
The problem I'm having with my copy of Windows 8.1 is that in some Metro apps the graphics will be very odd, for example, some things not showing up until I hover my mouse over it or scroll, things changing or disappearing when I move the cursor or go to new screens, etc.
This only really happens with the built-in Microsoft apps. I know exactly why it does it too. The apps aren't set to run only on the integrated GPU in my laptop, which has both integrated and dedicated switchable graphics. The Windows App Store was having this issue too, but when the AMD Catalyst Control Center notified me that the App Store had video/3D graphics and wanted me to set it, I set it to Power Saving instead of its original setting, and now it acts fine.
Here's my real problem: I can't set the other apps for the integrated processor, as I cannot find their executable files anywhere and the Catalyst Control Center is not asking me to set which processor I want for the applications.
The icons on the taskbar at the bottom of my screen become distorted. They'll generate copies of themselves, overlap other icons, and the start menu button disappears. Whenever I try to click an icon, it opens the icon to its left, as if the mouse needs to be calibrated. When I open the start menu, every time I scroll my mouse across a shortcut, it disappears. Poof. Just like that. I scroll my mouse over the icons a few more times, and usually, they'll come back, but if I scroll again, they disappear once more. Thus, I'm not able to open any programs from the start menu. Additionally, my background (which I normally have cycling through a folder of wallpapers) goes completely black.
This happens without warning; sometimes I'm playing video games and it happens when I alt-tab, sometimes I'm browsing the internet and it happens randomly, once I was just looking at my screen without running any programs or tasks and it happened. It will fix itself anywhere from a span of 2 minutes to half an hour.
So for some background I basically stream music, pictures and video content from my computer to an Xbox 360 in the lounge room for my family to enjoy. This has worked for quite a long time with Windows 7.
I installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview today and got settled in with it and indexed my libraries with Windows Media player so this could resume. But to my dismay this doesn't seem to work in Windows 8.
I have each folder and hard drive shared on windows for network use, I have a little experience from LANs in this area. I have enabled all streaming options in WMP that I know of and the entirety of my library has been fully indexed. This is WMP 12 and everything I possibly know of is up to date.
I haven't got the Homegroup feature active as I never had to use this before.
The only other thing I have noticed that has changed is this. A little green icon that in windows 7 would appear on top of the xboxs, I'm assuming this means something.
On the Xbox end it used to display the Libraries such as 'Recorded TV', 'Music', 'TV Shows', 'Movies' and other things but now when I try to access video content it gives me a folder called 'Videos' which contains nothing.
I have the laptop as stated above, i have had it a week and the user before me had decided to put on 7 instead of 8. i completely wiped and restored to windows 8.1, installed all sammy drivers and ensured it is all up to date.
the laptop had huge instability issues, the hdd was on its way out as mbr was damaged and the heads were ticking badly. then i found the ram was not secured in the sockets properly too. so i fixed it all!
Anyways back to the problem. i have the realtek hd audio drivers installed from sammy, reinstalled the ones from realtek themselves and still nothing.
Main issue, mic and speakers built in work and are fully detected. but the microphone port and headphone port are not detected, no matter what i plug into them.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhenever I purchase a new computer or a new operating system, it was suggested that I create a repair disc and a set of System Recovery DVD's. I always felt secure with a Hard Copy of the image tucked away in case I got in trouble and needed to be rescued.
The new Windows 8 doesn't offer this option. Do you think it's wise to rely solely on external drives or flash drives as they're open to malfunctions also?
How to add media center in Windows 8.1 i am used other user key but license issue So how to add media center I lost my previous media center key
View 1 Replies View Relatedtried to get the EZCast dongle to work ok on a Windows 8 pc. I have looked at several YouTube videos re EZCast & looked at several websites. The only thing I can get to work properly on my TV is some items on my desktop. When you attain the mirror on the TV the resolution changes, (lowers), which means when you try to open any other app an error message reads: This app cannot open. The screen resolution is too low for this app to run. You cannot put the resolution back up to its normal lever, because it automatically lowers again. Also I cannot figure how to have the dongle Wi-Fi & the web Wi-Fi to both be on, so you can mirror websites as they claim.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to create a bootable flash drive after upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1.

When I run winsat formal -reset -v from an elevated powershell or cmd window, it completes in less than a second and produces no xml files. I have tried without success:
1. Clean boot
2. Safe boot
3. Updated video driver
4. Uninstalled all codecs with autoruns
I think the problem might be related to failure to run the NT Kernel Logger but I don't know what process could be tying it up. I have attached the winsat log.
I just got my new Win 8 computer and going crazy trying to get the thing set-up..I'm not tech savy at all. I looked on the internet and was really confused. I just have plain Win 8, no pro. Then I notice about media player for N and NK. I'm an old lady just looking for plain Windows Media Player that's compatabile with my Win 8
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to copy a CD to disc using Media Player. When I try to set the destination location by clicking CHANGE in Rip settings/More options/Rip music to this location, nothing happens. I can't set a location. When I click the Rip CD button, I get the message "Windows Media Player cannot find the file. If you are trying to play, burn, or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point to a file that has been moved, renamed, or deleted."
The Media Player sees the CD and can play the tracks from the CD, so it's not that it can't find the CD.
Has there been any updates to the windows media player for the RTM version? This thing should have been updated centuries ago. I'm sure some people might use other programs but for people without internet or knowledge that there are other programs out there they should update this player. Not a fan of xbox music.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAlong with all the other things, that don't seem to work in the Windows 8.1 beta, I noticed that the Media Player is also missing, while they did only say Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center Beta.
Are they planning on totally removing Media Player also?
I have been trying to get WMC to stay-on-top but to date I have not been able to figure it out. I have looked all over the application. The research I have done tell me to do the follow within WMC;
Select: Tasks / Settings / General / Startup and Window Behavior
At this location I should see the option to "Stay on Top" but the only options available are;
1) Show a warning before displaying Web pages that are not designed for WMC
2) Show taskbar notifications
When I select about in WMC the following info is displayed;
Windows 8
version 6.2.9.00.16384
with Windows Media Center Technologies
Where I need to go to set this option ?
I haven't installed Windows Media Center yet but yes I got the free key etc. I'm in the process of getting a new PC and then I will install but in the meantime I would like to burn to a DVD. How can I do this?

Occasionally, and not immediately repeatable, W8.1 will freeze when a USB flash drive or wireless adapter, camera card or DVD is inserted. There is no keyboard input, mouse pointer is on-screen but dead. Reboot needed. No error message. Event Viewer lists "unexpected shutdown." There were incidents of this in W7 as well (same hardware). BIOS setting?

So I have a Windows 8 Pro machine with Media Center (legit key for both) that I'm running as a gaming and multimedia machine.
I want to update to the RTM of 8.1 now. Where do I start? I want to preserve all settings and data, and avoid complete reinstallation if at all possible.
Approximately every 10min my Windows 8 do a sound. The sound is little bit like when you connect something to usb port.
Everything works well and theoretically it isn't big deal. Practically is does hell from watching of anything. When I watch movie, serial or just some video on youtube this sound turns player's sound off. Sometimes its silenced only on short time but mostly it's permanent. Only one solution in this situation is to reset movie player or reload web page.
In every case when I hear this sound, I can find Surrogate process in task manager. I think it can has connectivity.
A couple of weeks ago I upgraded my computer from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1. Just recently I haven't been receiving audio. I have tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall it. I have performed a clean boot. I have even tried system restore. Nothing wants to work. I have tried updates for drivers through Dell Support, but Dell doesn't detect Windows 8.1.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to understand the licence on my Windows 8 Media. I bought Windows 8.0 last year, not an upgrade, and not with a PC.
It's got a section on installing on a PC for personal use. I want to un-install/remove from 1 PC, and install it on a New PC.
It's not clear how I achieve this.? The only 3 things it's say's I cant do:
- Use as upgrade
- Legalize a non-genuine install
- License more than 5 copies for commercial use.??
So is there a method to follow to avoid activation issues.? And it telling me this is already installed on another PC.?
Every time I try to play any DVD in Windows Media Center, I get this error:
"CANNOT PLAY DVD : The DVD may be in use by another application. If all other applications are closed, the video resolution may need to be lowered or the display connection type may not support playback of the DVD."
I know the issue is not with my physical DVD drive because of the following reasons: I am presently dual-booting XP Pro SP3 and Windows 8 Pro with Media Center. The former can play DVDs just fine. VLC Player on Windows 8 can also play DVDs just fine.
I'm curious if there's any way to get this to work on Windows Media Center on Windows 8, then, because I paid for the upgrade from Pro to Pro with Media Center, after all.
My WMC has been working just fine since it was released for Windows 8. I opened the programme today to check tv programmes only to find that "Viewing or Listening Conflict - No tuner available to satisfy the current request".
I have a TV Tuner card : AVerMedia H751 Hybrid Analog/DVB-T with the latest and only drivers installed. by visiting AVer Media website.
When I did a compatibility test for Windows 8 there was no conflict, hence I've been viewing TV with WMC until today.
What happened today, nothing that I know of. Windows update yesterday, so I did a system restore, no such luck it made no difference.
My system is Wndows 8 Pro with Media Centre
Intel Core i5 CPU
320GHz
8Gb RAM
64 bit OS
My husband's computer is on the same line for TV and his WMC is working just fine so it's not the connections from the wall unit to PC.
All of a sudden, after installing some software updates, Ubuntu tells me to restart. I restart, load Ubuntu perfectly, then decide I want to use Windows to play a game. Restart, select Windows partition in Grub. The Toshiba logo comes up, as usual, but it doesn't boot into Windows. The scrolling wheel just keeps turning. I go to BIOS, and try enabling secure boot, to see if I can boot Windows like that. Same problem. Go to BIOS a second time, change the boot type to CSM instead of UEFI, to see if that will work. It comes up as a black screen "Failed to load media". I switch it back to UEFI and disable Secure Boot. Now all of a sudden, Grub doesn't come up, it just goes straight to loading Windows, but same problem. I ran Boot Repair from a live USB, didn't work.
I am able to use Ubuntu now, but only by pressing F12 and selecting it. Windows still won't boot. I made a recovery USB, and I tried to refresh my pc but it said drive was locked. I don't know what to do.
Here's my Boot Info: Ubuntu Pastebin
I have a Toshiba Satellite.
