Tablets :: Windows 8.1 - Disable Touchpad Edge Gestures For All Users
Feb 25, 2014How to disable the edge gestures, touchpad only, for all users on Windows 8.1. Here's the scenario:
The laptops are touchscreen. You use the touchpad to move the cursor around and the Edge gesture is triggered (charms, recent apps etc)....
There are hundreds Windows 8.1 laptops that will be put into production soon. The master image has already been created and installed on all of the laptops by the manufacturer.
Each laptop will be used by several different users for testing, so disabling the gestures per computer per user/profile would be quite difficult.
Model: Lenovo E431
Mouse: ThinkPad UltraNav pointing device
Driver: Synaptics 16.6.4.13
I haven't found a way to do it via group policy or the registry for all users.

Jul 2, 2013I fail to understand why on a laptop (which has no touchscreen) why you would want to have the swipe gestures?
Surely most folks don't look at the touchpad in use, so it is often that one starts off to the right (especially when the pad is off centre), and it is natural to move to the left to find where one wants to start - hey presto the charms bar opens, and if you're not carefull all sorts of events occur which you really don't want.
Any way on my Lenovo Z580 with synaptics 8.1 we have the worst of both worlds - there is no easy option in the Synaptics settings to turn off the gestures, so the option is to do registry editing to the key TouchPadPS2_3 - I have amended the Active Type dwords from 2 to 0. However there is a side effect of this.
When booting, there is now a delay till the process finishes - we now get blue circular processes next to the pointer for approx 40 seconds.
What other edits we need to make to remove this delay?

Disable 8.1 Charms Mouse Gesture?
Aug 21, 2014Is there a way to disable the bottom right corner charms bar gesture? i can disable the hint no problem with DisableCharmsHint. however moving the mouse up the right side of the screen (starting from the bottom right corner) will still open the charms bar.
DisableTRCorner will both disable the top right charms hint AND the "gesture". Moving the mouse down the right side of the screen will not open the charms bar.
i cant seem to find a way to do the same for the bottom right. i dont understand why microsoft couldnt have added a "DisableBRCorner" registry entry that functions the same as DisableTRCorner.
Disable FN Key And Left Mouse Combination Permanently?
Feb 27, 2013Everytime I accidentally press FN+Left mouse, I enable tap-to-click (which I want to have off). I can disable the function with the same combination, but I'd like to find out a way to permantently disable tap-to-click.
I have Win 8 Pro now, but Vista and Win 7 behaved the same way, so I reckon it should be a Windows thing...

Mar 31, 2013my mouse keeps waking my computer from S3 sleep everytime it is slighty moved. I want to disable my mouse's ability to wake up my computer.
Disabling wake-on-usb is not an option as i want to be able to wake up my computer when i press a key on my keyboard.I have tried to check in device manager for the power control options of my mouse.
Increasing Corner Gestures Size?
Jan 31, 2014I'm running an old touch screen in a mobile environment. And while I see great benefit to using Windows 8.1, I'm having issues with getting it to cooperate with my older LCD touch screen. If I could increase the size of the corner gesture, it would solve most my problems.
I've already increased the MouseCornerClipLength in the registry to 20, which is the max this will go. My screen just doesn't like the small tolerance Microsoft has given to bring up these gestures. I can cheat the calibration to make it work, but then it throws off the whole screen.

Nov 20, 2013Over the past three weeks or so, there have been probably seven times my wireless USB Nexus Silent Mouse has not been recognized on cold computer startups (usually morning). Windows 8 (Pro x64) throws up a message that a USB device wasn't recognized, and I don't see a mouse cursor. Unplugging and replugging the USB mouse's stick, which is in a port on the front of the computer, solves it. The mouse driver is up to date, changing USB ports hasn't made a difference and the batteries are fine (and have been changed).

Jul 15, 2014Recently I bought a new lap top and installed Windows 8.1
I have an issue with the Mouse/s. I tried 2 different mouses and I encountered the same problem with both of them, so I know it's not a mouse problem. Note that both of these mouses work perfectly on my other/older/Windows 7 and previously Windows XP lap top, so it's not a mouse issue. It's either a driver problem or something else.
I have tried all 3 USB ports I got and it does the same thing.
When I turn on the lap top, if the mouse is plugged or unplugged and I plug it afterwards, it doesn't work. If however I turn on the lap top, plug in the mouse, and the restart the lap top, when it restarts the mouse works fine all up until the lap top is turned off again. And then to get it to work again I have to turn on the lap top, with the mouse plugged, or plug the mouse after it's turned on, then restart the lap top, and then the mouse works fine.
Apparently, this is not very convenient. It's a major inconvenience.
p.s I never had this issue before on any other PC computer or lap top, whether it was Windows XP or Windows 7. So it's either a Windows 8.1 issue or the new lap top issue, or a driver issue.

Sep 15, 2014I got a new mouse a couple of days back, it's one of those fancy Razer mouses with 12 buttons on the side that is used for gaming and stuff. I have an issue when I try to use usb 3.0 instead of 2.0 ports. ( my tower only has like 2 2.0 ports so I try to use those for other things ) I am trying not to buy a usb hub before somebody says it
On games ( fullscreen or Windowed ) quickslot controls where you can use the numbers on your mouse I can't use the 3.0 port as it won't recognize the side buttons but it will on the 2.0 port.
I am guessing this is a driver problem but I am unsure. Neither the native mouse driver for Windows nor the fancy Cloud Synapse driver 2.0 works.

My mouse or Keyboard or both suddenly without warning will stop functioning. Sometimes one or the other sometimes both. I tried running a game for a small bench test and it dropped the mouse and keyboard so I had to use the reset button to get out.

Jan 16, 2014I installed the 8.1 patch today and shortly after the mouse disappeared from my screen completely (I have a laptop with a touch pad). I tried going into task manager as just going in and cancelling used to solve this problem before installing the patch but this no longer works. I also tried rebooting (switching off then on again) but this didn't work and the computer didn't even reboot; just reopened my session exactly where I left off even when I waited ten minutes before switching the on switch again. I have temporarily solved this problem with a usb mouse borrowed from a family member but my family member needs it back (and I also would prefer to use the touchpad).
I should add here that I didn't want to do the installation when it started happening and while I meant to press the "default settings" option, I think I went with "customise settings" by accident. I just said ok to everything as I had a deadline and needed computer access. Could I have pressed "turn touch pad off" and if so how do I change this?

I have used this mouse on two different computers and both do the same thing. I'm thinking it is the mouse since it's doing it on my desktop with a Bluetooth dongle and my Asus T100 with built in Bluetooth.

Nov 30, 2012I was having the issue where windows 8 randomly disconnects bluetooth devices, so i tried to remove then reinstall it. When trying to remove, after a while, it comes up with a message saying "Unable to remove device".
So I go straight to device manager and uninstall my mouse from there. it works. I go back to the windows 8 show bluetooth devices menu and the mouse is still there. I hit remove and it works.
Now when i restart my computer its BACK in both device manager and bluetooth device menu. I just want it off and gone.

I have an 2.4 GHz Wireless Laser Mobile Mouse. Originally after the upgrade, the left button caused right clicks and vice versa. I found a workaround by changing the Windows 8 settings to "Right Primary Button" while in the control panel, the device is configured for the left hand. If I select "Left..." and right respectively, I get the reverse. The scroll wheel also does nothing when clicked. Sometimes when I read articles I click it so I can move my mouse up and down to scroll the page without pushing any keys.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the mouse driver and HID driver with no luck.

Jul 30, 2014I can install and use any of two bluetooth mice (Dell PU705 Travel mouse or Samsung S Action mouse ET-MP900D) on my Lenovo Ideapad Z710 laptop. This works fine with either mouse for an average of 20 minutes (varies) then it loses contact with the laptop and its back to using the touchpad. When I go to the Bluetooth settings page -- "Manage Bluetooth Devices", the control suddenly reappears on entering the page with no further action from me. The recovery of the device like this happens on no other page, to my knowledge. I have a phone and a tablet paired with the laptop on bluetooth and they stay paired. I have installed the latest Lenovo bluetooth drivers with no improvement. It appears that the mice are still connected but not responding to the laptop until they get a small 'kick' when I return to the Bluetooth settings page. New, full strength batteries are installed.

Jan 31, 2014I've tried three mice, Logitech G400, Razer Deathadder 3.5 and a random Logitech wireless but the problem remains.
I haven't found any coincidents when i run a specific program or game. Sometimes it goes a day or two without incident and sometimes multiple times a day. I have run several Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Avast scans but they did not find anything.
I have also ran a "sfc /scannow" and the "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" to fix. I have tried the current drivers for every mouse, tried without drivers and tried to uninstall all drivers all let Windows install them itself.

Mar 3, 2013On a new custom built desktop, running Windows 8, I am having the annoying problem with the mouse lagging or sticking on the screen. It can do this differently at times, depending on what program I am in. For instance, on the desktop a few moments ago, just running the mouse pointer back and forth slowly across the screen, it would tend to stick for a couple of seconds when in line with the icons that are on the right side of the screen. As if there was an imaginary line stopping it. In Internet Explorer, it did not want to go to the upper right area where the favorites and home icons are. But at times, the mouse is perfect.
I've upgraded my video card drivers right from the manufacturer's website. It as if something runs in the background intermittently and hangs the mouse for a second or two.

Oct 2, 2013I tried to adjust the double click speed but it has no effect.
Any icon on desktop doesn't open until the third click. Once i am in my computer double clicking works fine, the issue only occurs on desktop.
I suspect it is related to some program but i don't know which. Other domain users on the computer do not suffer from this problem.
I tried disabling lots of things from startup like babylon, ashampoo hdd control, bwmeter, desktop 8gadgets but it didn't work.
I don't know when this problem started to occur.
Earlier i installed mcos lion transformation pack and uninstalled it. It had caused notifications not to come on office 2013.
