Feb 15, 2014I am using Windows 8 and I started getting this message at Start up.

View 5 RepliesI accidentally installed an adware called Rocket tab however I uninstalled it but after restarting my computer, I am prompted with the following error message. Now, every time I start up my computer this message pops up .
View 4 Replies View RelatedI get this RunDLL (Not Responding) message box every time I restart the computer. The rest of the message says "There was a problem starting C:UsersSHERRYAppDataLocalConduitBackgroundContainerBackground Container.dll The specified module could not be found." I have included a snip .png of the message box.
I will attach this information as a .pdf file, if interested. The files instructed to be deleted in the 'regedit' would not delete at all. And I still don't know if I was intended to delete the the entire folder with sub-folders, but since they couldn't be deleted it doesn't matter. These folders and the files listed in them did not seem to have anything to do with Conduit Ltd. A couple of these 'Regedit' folders were not even listed.
Whenever i start up my computer i get a command prompt pop up that says C; windowssystem32cmd.exe operation completed successfully, how do i get rid of this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI get this message on startup of Windows 8, before the login screen. Dunno if its from a virus or malware.

Clicking OK on that brings up the login screen and I can log into Windows fine. But whether or not i log in or wait at the message, the computer will restart. I get about 2 minutes before it restarts.

-I have done a full scan of all partitions with Kaspersky Rescue Disc 10. Found no viruses.
-Have enabled legacy boot menu policy so can boot into safe mode by pressing F8. Message still appears and computer still restarts.
-Unable to Refresh PC, due to drive being locked.
-Unable to Reset PC, due to a required partition is missing.
-I have uninstalled the graphics driver while in safe mode.

Usually, Windows 8.1 advanced startup options -> troubleshoot menu should be .....
But my troubleshoot->advanced options only have UEFI Firmware and Startup Settings ....
I have to use command prompt ....
So upon entering desktop from initial startup, all my icons are missing. The loading symbol shows if i move my cursor over the taskbar at the bottom. If I CTRl-ALT-DEL and signout i takes a minute but than i can sign in and it works fine. Im not getting any BSOD and this occurs about 1/3rd of the time. Also resetting does not solve the issue. I couldn't find anything about blank/empty desktop screens via google.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe Troubleshoot icon that should be under the 'Advanced Startup' Option is missing. System is a new Dell Latitude 10 ST2 Tablet running Windows 8. Have access to 9 other identical tablets, all configured the same and they all have the Troubleshoot Option. Have tried multiple methods of getting to "Advanced Startup" display (including Safe mode, 'shutdown /r /o', etc.), but all result in only having the 'Continue', 'Use a Device', and 'Turn Off your PC' options - No Troubleshoot. Other than missing this icon, system is working fine. Shy of wiping the disk and starting over.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo the problem is that i always face this action center message:
I always click on turn on so it dissapears but it get back on after a while or after restarting the computer.
For the past week or so, I am suddenly (in the middle of working on something) getting a blue screen that says "Activate Windows. Go to PC Settings to activate Windows." And there's a PC settings button to click. The only way out of that screen is to click there. So I do, and it briefly looks like I'm going to go to some sort of settings screen, but then it disappears and it takes me to my start screen. When I go back to my desktop, whatever I was working on is right where I left it. Happens several times a day.
Why this is happening and why it never actually takes me to PC Settings and what I can do to stop this?
I'm running 8.1 - I "upgraded" (I use that term loosely!) when it first became available back in October.
I've started getting the Upgrade to Windows 8.1 now - it's free message when I boot up and it's annoying as heck. It locks up the computer and the only choice is to click the upgrade now button. I was able to Ctrl+Alt+Del and sign out then login again. Got the same annoying message but this time there was a Remind me later button. Is there any way to block it or prevent it from happening? I don't want to upgrade to 8.1 now and perhaps maybe never. This is as bad as a virus.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Encore, which I updated. When I start it up it has the message 'Preparing Automatic repair', then a black screen and a Windows windows flashes up for a split second. I then get the message 'Diagnosing your PC', the 'Attempting Repairs'.
I then get a blue screen with the title 'Automatic Repair' with the message: Automatic Repair couldnt repair your PC...... Log file C:windowssystem32logfilessrtsrttrail.txt
There are two options 'Shutdown' and 'Advanced options'.
'Advanced options' gives:
Continue'- exit to windows 8.1
'Use a device'
'Troubleshoot'
'Turn off your PC'
Troubleshoot gives:
'Refresh your PC'
'Reset your PC'
'Toshiba maintenece'
'Advanced Options'
Advanced Options gives:
'System restore'- ive tried this but there are no restore points
'System image recovery'
'Start up repair'- Tried this, just goes to 'Preparing automatic repair'
'Command prompt'- This works
'UEFI Firmware Settings'
'Start-up Settings'- Tried this, just goes to 'Preparing automatic repair'
So apart from refreshing and resetting which I haven't tried yet, I can get into a Command prompt. The command prompt starts in X:. When I open Notepad and browse the file system i notice that X: is called 'Boot'. I'm wondering whether the 8.1 update has put something on my PC that makes it try to boot from X: instead of C:. Is there any way I can check what drive the PC is trying to boot from?
The log file states
Root cause found: Boot manager failed to find OS loader
Repair action: File repair
Result:failed. Error code 0xa
Repair action: Boot configuratio data store repair
Result:failed. Error code 0x490
I am using Windows 8 pro, and recently it comes up with a big "Upgrade to Windows 8.1" banner at login, with a link to the store, and you can't close the banner either, so you have to go to the store.
Is there a way to disable this?
I've tried 8.1 and I don't want to move on yet until the 8.1 drivers are properly released for my laptop... had issues with 8.1 the last couple of time I tried it.
Using Livemail in Windows 8.1 for no apparent reason the content of all messages in one or more storage folders will disappear. The message header is OK, but the contents of all messages in that particular folder are identical. It seems to occur only when I drag a new message from the inbox or sent box into the storage folder. And not every time.
I have tried restores the message contents. Clearly the WLM storage file is messed up - is there any way to restore or recover it?
Windows 8 Pro, latest updates.
Strange error message in last couple days on startup, sometimes at other times.
Explorer.exe (in title bar of message)
In message section-yellow triangle with exclamation point, followed by "Windows can't find the target".
What target?
Explorer is working, as I can open a folder, etc.
I tried SFC /scannow, and it reported no problems.
A Google search of the term found no hits.

When you try to delete WLM messages you get this error
"An unknown error has occurred" and the message cannot be deleted.
People with this problem, often need to delete multiple messages or entire folders. That error appears because WLM only thinks it has that/those message(s), but actually that message is nowhere to be found in the the Windows email folders. The message exists no longer, but WLM still shows it as being in its own folders and you simply cannot delete it using the normal procedure.
For the easier way, one can drag the unwanted and non-existing emails to the Deleted Items folder, one by one. However, that is crazy when you have to get rid of hundreds or thousands of them (yes, I had that situation!).
This is how to trick WLM if you want to delete multiple emails giving you that error:
1. We try to simulate forwarding multiple messages. Select multiple emails by clicking on one and then using SHIFT to click and select multiple concatenated messages. Do that screen after screen (scroll down/up). Stop when you see the FORWARD button has become grey. That means one email is even more stubborn and doesn't even want to be forwarded.
2. Hold the SHIFT key and click the messages up and down until you find the culprit. It will be just outside your selection, when your selection manages to un-grey the Forward button.
3. With a lot of messages selected and concatenated, click on the Forward button. You'll get another error message "One or more messages could not be attached. Select OK to continue creating the note." Click Cancel.
4. Now something has unblocked those messages (or message information) and, with the selection on, you can Delete them by simply clicking the Red X (delete) button.
5. The message that made the Forward button grey, can now be deleted as well.
6. Keep doing that until you finish the bunch of messaged you wanted to delete when you got the initial error.
