So the problem is that i always face this action center message:
I always click on turn on so it dissapears but it get back on after a while or after restarting the computer.
I have Windows 8 x64, Action Centre scans for drive errors at least once a week, when I run
fsutil dirty query C:
I get a "not dirty" on all my Hard drives, why does Action Centre want to check so often, I cannot find any task in Task Scheduler related to this.
I have a Windows 8 Toshiba Satellite S855-S5377 laptop. My problem is that I get notified all the time by the Windows Action Center that I should scan my drive for errors even though I already have multiple times. I've already opened the command prompt and typed chkdsk /f /r and did the scan on boot up. I checked the log with the Computer Management Console and didn't find any problems with the hard drive. I also have used other HDD error checking tools and have even used the error checking utility of Windows when you right click the drive choose properties then tools. And every time the PC or the program says my drive is fine but the Action Center warning message doesn't go away.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently had to do a factory restore on my system. I reinstalled Norton Internet Security using the existing product key I have. Today my action center says virus protection turned off;
I hit view Antivirus apps and this comes up
I click on Norton Internet Security then click turn on, this is what pops up
I click on yes, I trust this publisher to run this app, However nothing happens. It still says that Norton Internet Security is turned off. I went into Norton Internet Security, it says that my system is secure and even ran a full system scan for good measure.
Is there a reason why action center is saying that antivirus protection is turned off?
Every few days I get a message in the Action Center that says I need to update and Run Defender.
I have real time protection and everything else turn on, why doesn't it do this on it's own.
Also I don't see any options as there used to be about when to run scans i.e. time and how often etc.
As far as I can see it has never quarantined anything but when I manually run a scan it come up clean, not surprising I guess because I run Malwarebytes every day, and SuperAntiSpyware regularly, and I'm using Comodo firewall.
I did run a fake test virus and it caught it immediately so it seems to be working fine.
It doesn't fall asleep. I have it set to turn the display off at 10 minutes, and to go into sleep mode at 15. That works perfectly!
But, how when your PC is starting up or waking up, and when the cursor first displays, it works intermittently? You can try to move it around, and it doesn't react very well. Not until your PC is fully awake.
This happens every time I don't touch my keyboard or mouse for between 3 and 4 minutes. Then it takes about 20 seconds to fully wake up after I touch the keyboard or mouse. Drives me nuts!
I don't have any unusual or unknown programs on my PC, and I don't believe it's malware. Otherwise my PC runs great. Fast.
When I first installed Windows 8 my system used to go to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity and then resume on pressing any key. Recently, without any apparent changes to settings, it will not resume and the power button has to be actioned requiring a loggin. what setting controls all of this. I also am confused by difference between sleep and hibernate!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running an app that has buttons with momentary action, ie when you click and hold the button stays down, releases when you release the mouse button. At the moment I am stumped at how to replicate this with the touch interface. I have disabled the hold for right click option but still no good.
It looks as though the click action is done once you take your finger off the screen.
When I close a tab, then the displaying tab is the right-side tab, but what I really want is to display the previous viewing tab, how can I make that?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased a laptop with windows 8.1. After I had to delete some search engines - apart from yahoo and google, I find that I am now unable to upload email attachments in my yahoo webmail and unable to upload photos in facebook. I don't know whether the 2 things are connected, I just noticed the problem after I had done this action. When I try to attach/upload I get a page telling me skydrive is unavailable, not the folders from which to chose file. All I can then do is cancel.
And btw, I had tried to get rid of the adware using adw-cleaner which hp had recommended but it did not seem to complete the action and after re-start seems to have vanished. I don't know enough to reconstruct what I did to delete the search engines, I don't think.
There is an app here that, when opened, causes all AutoPlay optical media settings to revert to "Take No Action."
Is there an AutoPlay setting that can thwart this, in the same manner that a file can be set to READ ONLY?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I run winsat formal -reset -v from an elevated powershell or cmd window, it completes in less than a second and produces no xml files. I have tried without success:
1. Clean boot
2. Safe boot
3. Updated video driver
4. Uninstalled all codecs with autoruns
I think the problem might be related to failure to run the NT Kernel Logger but I don't know what process could be tying it up. I have attached the winsat log.
I have been trying to get WMC to stay-on-top but to date I have not been able to figure it out. I have looked all over the application. The research I have done tell me to do the follow within WMC;
Select: Tasks / Settings / General / Startup and Window Behavior
At this location I should see the option to "Stay on Top" but the only options available are;
1) Show a warning before displaying Web pages that are not designed for WMC
2) Show taskbar notifications
When I select about in WMC the following info is displayed;
Windows 8
version 6.2.9.00.16384
with Windows Media Center Technologies
Where I need to go to set this option ?
I haven't installed Windows Media Center yet but yes I got the free key etc. I'm in the process of getting a new PC and then I will install but in the meantime I would like to burn to a DVD. How can I do this?

So I have a Windows 8 Pro machine with Media Center (legit key for both) that I'm running as a gaming and multimedia machine.
I want to update to the RTM of 8.1 now. Where do I start? I want to preserve all settings and data, and avoid complete reinstallation if at all possible.
Constant pop-up saying important message about 8.1, that I should click on HP Compatibility Assistant, but nothing happens when I click on this. Also a link to "more info" about windows 8.1, but the link doesn't work. How do I even find out if I even need 8.1?
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor the past week or so, I am suddenly (in the middle of working on something) getting a blue screen that says "Activate Windows. Go to PC Settings to activate Windows." And there's a PC settings button to click. The only way out of that screen is to click there. So I do, and it briefly looks like I'm going to go to some sort of settings screen, but then it disappears and it takes me to my start screen. When I go back to my desktop, whatever I was working on is right where I left it. Happens several times a day.
Why this is happening and why it never actually takes me to PC Settings and what I can do to stop this?
I'm running 8.1 - I "upgraded" (I use that term loosely!) when it first became available back in October.
I am using Windows 8 and I started getting this message at Start up.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've started getting the Upgrade to Windows 8.1 now - it's free message when I boot up and it's annoying as heck. It locks up the computer and the only choice is to click the upgrade now button. I was able to Ctrl+Alt+Del and sign out then login again. Got the same annoying message but this time there was a Remind me later button.Is there any way to block it or prevent it from happening? I don't want to upgrade to 8.1 now and perhaps maybe never.This is as bad as a virus.
View 7 Replies View RelatedEvery time I try to play any DVD in Windows Media Center, I get this error:
"CANNOT PLAY DVD : The DVD may be in use by another application. If all other applications are closed, the video resolution may need to be lowered or the display connection type may not support playback of the DVD."
I know the issue is not with my physical DVD drive because of the following reasons: I am presently dual-booting XP Pro SP3 and Windows 8 Pro with Media Center. The former can play DVDs just fine. VLC Player on Windows 8 can also play DVDs just fine.
I'm curious if there's any way to get this to work on Windows Media Center on Windows 8, then, because I paid for the upgrade from Pro to Pro with Media Center, after all.
My WMC has been working just fine since it was released for Windows 8. I opened the programme today to check tv programmes only to find that "Viewing or Listening Conflict - No tuner available to satisfy the current request".
I have a TV Tuner card : AVerMedia H751 Hybrid Analog/DVB-T with the latest and only drivers installed. by visiting AVer Media website.
When I did a compatibility test for Windows 8 there was no conflict, hence I've been viewing TV with WMC until today.
What happened today, nothing that I know of. Windows update yesterday, so I did a system restore, no such luck it made no difference.
My system is Wndows 8 Pro with Media Centre
Intel Core i5 CPU
320GHz
8Gb RAM
64 bit OS
My husband's computer is on the same line for TV and his WMC is working just fine so it's not the connections from the wall unit to PC.
At the moment I dual boot Windows 7 and Windows 8. I have just added Media Centre to 8 (yes I've got my key = 10days) and all went smoothly . . . until the dreaded alert 'TV Tuner not Detected' !! Of course it works perfectly on the Win7 partition, but is there any way for it to be recognized in the Windows 8 Partition? Or is the only way to eventually lose my Windows 7 and rely totally on Windows 8. Presumably the TV Tuner Card would then be detected. TV Tuner card is AVerMedia A336 MiniCard Hybrid DVB-T and driver up to date.

I used a program to extract the keys, but it seems that the media center add-on has overridden the pro key and it wont let me install windows. I noticed it gave me an internet explorer key that was different from the win8 key, but it rejected that too.
Is there a way to extract the original win8 pro key? I couldn't seem to find anything with google.
