I am currently trying to change UAC, but if I click on Change User Account Control Settings, nothing happens. Same thing if I click any of the links with the admin shield next to it. My account says local account administrator and I have installed programs as administrator just fine. I have also tried the .reg files posted, but it didn't seem to do anything.

I got tired of it sleeping & changed the sleep setting to "Never".
It still went to sleep after 2 hours.
So I checked in advanced settings & found that "hybrid sleep" was turned on.I shut it off & my computer quit going to sleep.
i'm wondering how to change my language preference. i've followed the guides on Input Method - Set Default Language in Windows 8 yet i'm still having troubles.
when i install my windows 8 this afternoon i set my location into indonesia. so all of my settings was in bahasa. i've done as the guide said but in my "START", things like Music, Weather, Pictures and some others are still in their bahasa language. while others like Maps and Computers are already changed into English.
I'm not on high contrast theme. Everything show it's color as it should be but only on the settings page it's mostly black and I can't do the setting..

I've deleted my user account and created a new one, but the problem remains. I've unlocked the Administrator account, but even through that account the settings can't be changed. I'm not in a homegroup, as I've heard this could solve the problem and I've disconnected and reconnected my Microsoft account to my User Account to no avail.
Windows keeps updating and I don't have the bandwidth to continue this way.
I've been having an issue that popped up today. Out of nowhere, my game (age of empires 2 HD) froze for no reason, my audio cut out completely (was listening to youtube in the background), and my skype crashed, along with videos on youtube not able to be watched anymore (they would sit at 0:00 and never advance). I also tried to launch another game after this, and it crashed immediately. My flash plugin also crashes as well. I have had this computer for about a year, and although I've had bluescreens, I've never had this issue.
So far, I have tried restoring my computer to a previous setting. This works for a few hours, but then it reverts back to the crashing of games/videos/skype.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer is so messed up Version 8.1 . I first noticed that I had a problem with Kaspersky. It said my license was unable to verify and to update data base to solve. It wont let me update. In fact it wont even let me uninstall, and secondly I cant download ANYTHING off the internet. My main problem is OFFICE keeps freezing and I need that program it also says there is a problem with my license and I have not been able to fix it it just freezes. So I thought I will download open office, but as I mentioned I cant download anything when I click run nothing happens when I click save it says corrupt or unreadable file. I thought no problem I will just hit F2 (yes I have tried hitting every single key after this and nothing) and enter bios screen and recover from my USB but do you think F2 (or any other key takes takes me there, no. Products like Kaspersky, Office, I have paid for etc say they are unlicensed which they are not. Anything I try to download, anything, like a new virus program will not work. I can't download, I cant even get into Change my PC settings it just freezes when I click this. I have had people try and trouble shoot this, Kaspersky has not gotten back to me and everyone is telling me stuff I cant do. I do not have touch screen so all my taps are with a mouse. When I open the gear icon on the charms bar all is ok and all choices are shown. The only one that doesnt work is "Change PC Settings". View 9 Replies View Related I'm an IT pro and I'm in the process of creating Windows 8 Pro (64-bit) images for my workplace using audit mode (i have done this countless times on windows 7). The problem is, the 'Change PC settings' button does NOT work when I click on it in audit mode. Nothing happens at all, the charms bar just slides away as it should, and then....nothing.
Heres what I'm doing:
1. Installing Windows 8 using our (MAK) dvd on my base image PC (Dell Optiplex 780). This is a CLEAN install on a wiped hard disk using verified installation media.
2. I Press Ctrl-SHift-F3 at the 'Personalize' screen to launch audit mode
3. The system logs in as it should with the built-in admin account
At this stage, Windows is not yet activated. The change PC settings button does not work.
I then:
4. Activate Windows 8 using the 'slui 3' command to input my volume product key. This activates OK.
5. I reboot to complete activation
6. I verify in system settings that windows IS activated.
The 'change pc settings' button still does not respond at this stage (nothing happens at all, no errors etc). And this is with ZERO changes to the PC.
Attempted Workarounds
For the record, I have tried countless things in a bid to fix this, including but not limited to:
* put the resolution to 1024x768 (as some forums recommended) - 'change PC settings' still not working.
* installing ALL available windows updates (before activation, after activation etc) - 'change PC settings' still not working.
* updated the PC bios and tried again - 'change PC settings' still not working.
* I have created new local accounts (admin and non admin) just to test it using the new accounts, and that doesnt work either.
* I have wiped the disk and attempted complete wipe and reinstalls countless times (and on 3 different models of PC), with the same result. 'change PC settings' still not working.
* tried countless possible fixes found in forums all over the web - none of which worked.
I have done all this and more, countless times, and in countless different orders to try and beat this thing, but to no avail.
Since yesterday I've been getting a "The Microsoft Document Cache encountered a problem" error notification. whenever I restart my PC. The weird thing is its happening on both my desktop and laptop.
Anyway when I click on it I get this box...
Clicking the repair button gives me this dialogue box...
And tells me the action can't be completed because another application is using the document and to close all office documents which... 1) - there are no shared or in use items, 2) - all office documents are already closed, and 3) - Restarting the computer and doing this again results in the same error and issue.
If you click cancel, you get this box... and Upload Center basically crashes.
I don't know what's wrong but every time I try to play a video in the preinstalled video player it crashes. It'll open the video and even play it but between every 8 to 10 minutes it shuts down and brings me back to the start screen and I have to reopen the video and find where I was. I know it's not the video files themselves because it's happening on every video and I can watch the entire video, I just have to reopen it multiple time and find the spot it shut down on. I could use a different program but it's my favorite video player and I'd like to fix it if I could.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSince yesterday I noticed that the Bing News app crashes after I click on it. When I click on it, there's the normal animation of the tile flipping over and taking over the screen with the news icon in the middle. However, after 2 seconds the app crashes and brings me back to the Metro UI. I can still see the app open in the apps bar on the right but clicking on it keeps the app crashing. The Live tile is working properly but after I reinstalled the app (which didn't resolve the problem) it doesn't work anymore and there is no option to enable Live tile when right-clicking the app.
I didn't install any new drivers, software or updates (except for the Definition update for Windows Defender). All the other apps are working properly. Doing an SFC /scannow didn't find any integrity violations.
My specs:
Windows 8 Pro with Media Center 64x (don't want to install 8.1 just yet)
GTX 660Ti
i5-3570K
8 GB RAM

View 3 Replies View RelatedSince the latest Bing News app update came out, that can sync your settings across devices, mine wants to crash shortly after starting it. And this happens on multiple machines. I have managed to get into settings and turn off the sync of settings, turn off reading offline, and still no luck. It crashes every time. This even happens on a machine that just had Windows 8.1 completely reinstalled on it, and on my surface pro tablet which has had windows 8.1 on it for a while.

I consider myself an advanced user, but I still overlook a lot of things and make mistakes like everyone.
Basically, Windows 8.1's Metro apps and tiles keep refreshing to default settings like it's the first time I've used them or opened them.
When I go to use Skype, it will always ask if it is allowed to use my webcam and microphone. It seems to remember the settings for a while, then forgets them.
I'm assuming this is CCleaner related, but I unchecked all of the settings that correspond to the Metro applications, and this changes nothing.
I'm unsure if I am actually deleting important information Windows needs without knowing. I usually delete logs on top of the usual things to keep my computer clean.
In January I bought a Dell laptop with Windows 8. I recently upgraded to 8.1. Now most app tiles have an x on the right hand side of them, and I cannot access PC settings, the app store, and most other apps.
