when i install my windows 8 this afternoon i set my location into indonesia. so all of my settings was in bahasa. i've done as the guide said but in my "START", things like Music, Weather, Pictures and some others are still in their bahasa language. while others like Maps and Computers are already changed into English.

May 11, 2014Ever since upgrading to Windows 8.1 I haven't been able to change my update settings. The drop-down is greyed out and can't be clicked on. Above the drop down it says "Some settings are managed by your system administrator"
I've deleted my user account and created a new one, but the problem remains. I've unlocked the Administrator account, but even through that account the settings can't be changed. I'm not in a homegroup, as I've heard this could solve the problem and I've disconnected and reconnected my Microsoft account to my User Account to no avail.
Windows keeps updating and I don't have the bandwidth to continue this way.

Apr 8, 2014My computer is so messed up Version 8.1 . I first noticed that I had a problem with Kaspersky. It said my license was unable to verify and to update data base to solve. It wont let me update. In fact it wont even let me uninstall, and secondly I cant download ANYTHING off the internet. My main problem is OFFICE keeps freezing and I need that program it also says there is a problem with my license and I have not been able to fix it it just freezes. So I thought I will download open office, but as I mentioned I cant download anything when I click run nothing happens when I click save it says corrupt or unreadable file. I thought no problem I will just hit F2 (yes I have tried hitting every single key after this and nothing) and enter bios screen and recover from my USB but do you think F2 (or any other key takes takes me there, no. Products like Kaspersky, Office, I have paid for etc say they are unlicensed which they are not. Anything I try to download, anything, like a new virus program will not work. I can't download, I cant even get into Change my PC settings it just freezes when I click this. I have had people try and trouble shoot this, Kaspersky has not gotten back to me and everyone is telling me stuff I cant do. I do not have touch screen so all my taps are with a mouse. When I open the gear icon on the charms bar all is ok and all choices are shown. The only one that doesnt work is "Change PC Settings". Mar 1, 2013 I'm an IT pro and I'm in the process of creating Windows 8 Pro (64-bit) images for my workplace using audit mode (i have done this countless times on windows 7). The problem is, the 'Change PC settings' button does NOT work when I click on it in audit mode. Nothing happens at all, the charms bar just slides away as it should, and then....nothing.
Heres what I'm doing:
1. Installing Windows 8 using our (MAK) dvd on my base image PC (Dell Optiplex 780). This is a CLEAN install on a wiped hard disk using verified installation media.
2. I Press Ctrl-SHift-F3 at the 'Personalize' screen to launch audit mode
3. The system logs in as it should with the built-in admin account
At this stage, Windows is not yet activated. The change PC settings button does not work.
I then:
4. Activate Windows 8 using the 'slui 3' command to input my volume product key. This activates OK.
5. I reboot to complete activation
6. I verify in system settings that windows IS activated.
The 'change pc settings' button still does not respond at this stage (nothing happens at all, no errors etc). And this is with ZERO changes to the PC.
Attempted Workarounds
For the record, I have tried countless things in a bid to fix this, including but not limited to:
* put the resolution to 1024x768 (as some forums recommended) - 'change PC settings' still not working.
* installing ALL available windows updates (before activation, after activation etc) - 'change PC settings' still not working.
* updated the PC bios and tried again - 'change PC settings' still not working.
* I have created new local accounts (admin and non admin) just to test it using the new accounts, and that doesnt work either.
* I have wiped the disk and attempted complete wipe and reinstalls countless times (and on 3 different models of PC), with the same result. 'change PC settings' still not working.
* tried countless possible fixes found in forums all over the web - none of which worked.
I have done all this and more, countless times, and in countless different orders to try and beat this thing, but to no avail.

Apr 11, 2014In Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1 64-bit I am not given the option to move files to the Recycle Bin. Instead, when I delete a file I am asked "Are you sure you want to permanently delete this file?"In the Recycle Bin properties for each hard drive partition I have not selected "Don't move files to the Recycle Bin" and I have check-marked "Display delete confirmation dialog."
I can't remember precisely when this started to happen, but I did install Update 1 recently. I don't know if that matters.

Sep 15, 2014I build out tons of machines of all makes and models for demo scenarios. One of the things that is the same on all devices is our custom power settings.
Is there a way to copy the power settings and apply them to any new laptop we build out?
Example:
Laptop 1: Power settings are set to never go to sleep, not require passwords on wake up, brightness set to max, disable adaptive brightness.
I am hoping to be able to run a batch file or something to accomplish this on every machine I build out.

Sep 15, 2014I've been trying to change my power options. I go into Power Saver, "change plan settings," and try to change the "On battery" setting from "Put the computer to sleep: 3 minutes" to "Put the computer to sleep: Never." (I want to make this change because I have a Dell XPS, and it can have difficulties waking up from sleep.)
I've made this change a number of times, but after a while my computer simply reverts back to the 3 minute setting on its own. So, I leave the machine alone for a few minutes, I come back, and it's asleep...even though I thought I had changed the setting to 30 minutes. And in fact, I *had* changed the setting to 30 minutes; the computer is somehow reverting to 3 minutes on its own.

Aug 30, 2013Use of the Power Saver Setting in Windows 8 lowers my pc temperature (at idle) by at least 6 degrees. Using this setting, my pc now idles at 27 degrees C. When I use High Performance, my idle temp is usually at least 33 degrees, or more. For those who have problems with their pc's running warm, this is just one of the things I've found which works for temperature lowering. My biggest impact on lowering temp was air cleaning the pc case interior - getting all the fuzzy balls out...... At one point, my idle temp was in the 50 to 60 degree range and I figured my disk was failing. After checking for a possible problem, I found much of the problem was my own maintenance procedure failure. So, if your pc seems to be running rather high, look around for the simple solutions - clean pc, use power settings, etc.

Now the problem is I noticed that every time I restart my laptop it's power plan reverts back to "power saver", I had it set on "high performance" before. I own a Samsung laptop, model is NP535U3C-A01, Series 5.

Memory: 8 GB
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 7500G
It stops charging at 99%.
Maintenance :: PC Keeps Running Long Time - Sleep Settings Not Working
Apr 13, 2013Running a family PC, with different user login's. Users is leaving the PC even sometimes after logoff not putting the PC to sleep or switching on the PC, do not log in and leaves the PC running. (training of users, no result).
Task: Ensure the PC goes to sleep within reasonable time.
Sleep settings does not seem to work after user logoff. (3 different login profiles) all set to same standard "balanced" scheme. The standard scheme is changed/set to HDD off 20min, sleep 20 min, hibernate 240min.
A small app is called by screen saver logs the user off after 15 min inactivity with a 1 min warning screen. All working fine with logoff etc.
I had hoped the adjusted standard settings "balanced" was cascaded to the "logoff" state, but it seems to run it's own life after logoff, meaning the PC keeps running (screen goes black as set in the "standard scheme) however the power settings is not putting it to sleep, it takes hours...
The Ethernet card "hard wire" is set to not wake, the wireless adapter is disabled, lock screen is disabled.
Have also tried in the registry to set all default user schemes to = 5 (this was working in XP after logoff) but seems to have no effect in Windows 8. I'm not having Windows 8 pro, so GPO is not an option.
Here comes the questions:
Case, after logoff I want the PC to sleep after 20 min.
Where is the settings for "logoff" state (i.e. no user logged in and after user logoff) in the registry
How to changed the setting in the registry, meaning Dword, name, value for 20 min to sleep
Maintenance :: How Power Plans Work - Balanced Settings For Plugged And Unplugged Respectively
Apr 30, 2013I was wondering how Power Plans work. Say, I have my Power Plan set on Balanced. Now it'll adapt to the Balanced settings for plugged and unplugged respectively.
my computer needs more power for a task I'm performing while I'm not plugged in. Will it be able to push itself to it's capabilities, or would it stay restricted? How about when it's plugged in?
If I would rather have "High Performance" settings when I'm plugged in, and "Balanced" when I'm not, is there a way to do that? It's clear that Power Plans work even while being plugged in, but I see no need to limit the PC while you aren't on battery.

Dec 28, 2012I have a Sony VAIO VPCS11X9E and my screen brightness is at the lowest setting for some reason. Also, my FN keys for the brightness setting won't work. Any means of changing the brightness does not work, this does include the brightness bar when you go into settings.
I have tried so many driver installs, checked for any missing drivers or out of date drivers, but the only one that seems out of date is my Intel HD graphics which I HAVE updated, yet the Intel driver update checker says otherwise.
I have disabled AND enabled (just in case) the adaptive brightness, but it does NOT work.
I did have Windows 7 Ultimate running on before but decided to upgrade to Windows 8. Windows 7 never had any issues with brightness. Also when I load up, even thought I have replaced Windows 7 with Windows 8, it still loads up the dual boot screen asking me which OS I want to boot with. Booting with Windows 7 will blackout a few times then it will take me to the VAIO repair system. Windows 8 obviously takes me to Windows 8.
When the laptop boots up, the large letters or 'VAIO' are bright and normal and sometimes, but not always, when it gets to the dual boot screen, the brightness is normal. However, when this does happen, as soon as I move the mouse or click a button, the brightness immediately goes back down to very dim.
When it loads up into any other system or boot program the brightness is fine. For example when I go into Sony VAIO's recovery center, the brightness is ok. Also, if I boot into something like miniXP or a separate OS on a bootable disk or USB, the brightness is fine as well.
I have tried many driver fixes, but NONE of them work!! I have tried booting up into safe mode and trying to manually install certain drivers because that apparently works, but it does not make any difference at all.
