Unable To Access BIOS Or Change Pc Settings
Apr 8, 2014My computer is so messed up Version 8.1 . I first noticed that I had a problem with Kaspersky. It said my license was unable to verify and to update data base to solve. It wont let me update. In fact it wont even let me uninstall, and secondly I cant download ANYTHING off the internet. My main problem is OFFICE keeps freezing and I need that program it also says there is a problem with my license and I have not been able to fix it it just freezes. So I thought I will download open office, but as I mentioned I cant download anything when I click run nothing happens when I click save it says corrupt or unreadable file. I thought no problem I will just hit F2 (yes I have tried hitting every single key after this and nothing) and enter bios screen and recover from my USB but do you think F2 (or any other key takes takes me there, no. Products like Kaspersky, Office, I have paid for etc say they are unlicensed which they are not. Anything I try to download, anything, like a new virus program will not work. I can't download, I cant even get into Change my PC settings it just freezes when I click this. I have had people try and trouble shoot this, Kaspersky has not gotten back to me and everyone is telling me stuff I cant do. I cant download, I cant access bios, I cant even access Change my PC settings. Ready to hear all the generic "it should" or "you should be able to"

PC Settings Has Lost Colour And Now Has Black Background?
Jan 24, 2013Went to change settings in PC settings and have suddenly lost all colour and lo definition text. Only way I can see is to hover mouse over the text to highlight it. Also I seem to have lost the animations in my Accuweather app. Pic is shown below

Jan 6, 2014I had been using windows 8 and everything was fine till accidentally it downloaded windows 8.1 which i did not like ... so when it was saying to me that do you want to install windows 8.1 after downloading it , i said NO . But after that , all i have is a black screen. No matter if i swich it off through the switch butto in the laptop , it stills appears as black screen. Seems like the windows 8 has been uninstalled due to the download of windows 8.1 .

Dec 26, 2013i'm wondering how to change my language preference. i've followed the guides on Input Method - Set Default Language in Windows 8 yet i'm still having troubles.
when i install my windows 8 this afternoon i set my location into indonesia. so all of my settings was in bahasa. i've done as the guide said but in my "START", things like Music, Weather, Pictures and some others are still in their bahasa language. while others like Maps and Computers are already changed into English.
Updates :: Can't Change Update Settings
May 11, 2014Ever since upgrading to Windows 8.1 I haven't been able to change my update settings. The drop-down is greyed out and can't be clicked on. Above the drop down it says "Some settings are managed by your system administrator"
I've deleted my user account and created a new one, but the problem remains. I've unlocked the Administrator account, but even through that account the settings can't be changed. I'm not in a homegroup, as I've heard this could solve the problem and I've disconnected and reconnected my Microsoft account to my User Account to no avail.
Windows keeps updating and I don't have the bandwidth to continue this way.

Jan 12, 2014I am looking to make some adjustments to my system and have been advised to use the "Change PC Settings" button on the charms bar. I do not have touch screen so all my taps are with a mouse. When I open the gear icon on the charms bar all is ok and all choices are shown. The only one that doesnt work is "Change PC Settings". Mar 1, 2013 I'm an IT pro and I'm in the process of creating Windows 8 Pro (64-bit) images for my workplace using audit mode (i have done this countless times on windows 7). The problem is, the 'Change PC settings' button does NOT work when I click on it in audit mode. Nothing happens at all, the charms bar just slides away as it should, and then....nothing.
Heres what I'm doing:
1. Installing Windows 8 using our (MAK) dvd on my base image PC (Dell Optiplex 780). This is a CLEAN install on a wiped hard disk using verified installation media.
2. I Press Ctrl-SHift-F3 at the 'Personalize' screen to launch audit mode
3. The system logs in as it should with the built-in admin account
At this stage, Windows is not yet activated. The change PC settings button does not work.
I then:
4. Activate Windows 8 using the 'slui 3' command to input my volume product key. This activates OK.
5. I reboot to complete activation
6. I verify in system settings that windows IS activated.
The 'change pc settings' button still does not respond at this stage (nothing happens at all, no errors etc). And this is with ZERO changes to the PC.
Attempted Workarounds
For the record, I have tried countless things in a bid to fix this, including but not limited to:
* put the resolution to 1024x768 (as some forums recommended) - 'change PC settings' still not working.
* installing ALL available windows updates (before activation, after activation etc) - 'change PC settings' still not working.
* updated the PC bios and tried again - 'change PC settings' still not working.
* I have created new local accounts (admin and non admin) just to test it using the new accounts, and that doesnt work either.
* I have wiped the disk and attempted complete wipe and reinstalls countless times (and on 3 different models of PC), with the same result. 'change PC settings' still not working.
* tried countless possible fixes found in forums all over the web - none of which worked.
I have done all this and more, countless times, and in countless different orders to try and beat this thing, but to no avail.

Aug 17, 2014 The PC boots up and I can log in ok but I am unable to open any browsers, use the start bar or actually get in to most programs, use the search function or get in to any settings as it just hangs.
I can get to the start menu through charms and I can access My Pc from there but opening control panel hangs as well. I am also unable to get to the troubleshooting and repair.
I have tried to restart and press and hold the shift key but it just hangs again when restarting, also tried to log out of my profile but that also hangs.
I have tried to boot from a USB with a windows 8 ISO to get in to the repair from there but that doesn't seem to work - Also the windows product key shows as 'not available' ?how to actually do anything with my now expensive paperweight that has a pretty but non-functioning desktop screen ?
Unable To Get Into UEFI Firmware Settings?
Mar 21, 2013I am having a perplexing issue after doing a clean install of Windows 8 on a 256GB SSD where I can not get into the "UEFI Firmware Settings" Tile in Advanced Options. Basically, when trying to enter the EFI/BIOS via: Settings in Charms / PC Settings / General / Advanced Startup / Restart Now / Troubleshoot / Advanced optons I do not see the "UEFI Firmware Settings" tile to get into the UEFI/BIOS!
My machine (which only has (1) hard drive) is an Asus N56VZ and came pre-installed with Windows 8 on the factory 750GB 7200rpm HDD. I cleanly reinstalled the OS on to a new 256GB SSD via an OEM copy on a disc and all seemed basically OK except that sometimes when getting to the Login screen it would freeze and the cursor would not be flashing, I could not enter my password nor shut down via the power icon on the bottom left of the screen. I would then have to hold down the power button to shut off the machine. This freezing of the login screen would be intermitent where most of the time I could enter my password but maybe 20% or so of the time I could not log in.
Due to that bug I decided to securely erase the SSD and once again reinstall Windows 8 and now I have this issue where in the Advanced Options menu there is only (5) tiles/options present and not the usual (6) as the "UEFI Firmware Settings" functionality is now missing
