I have installed Windows 8.1 on my laptop. My laptop is Hp 6510b. Windows 8.1 is working fine for me. But the only issue I am facing is that I am unable to see my Bluetooth in Settings. Hence I am unable to transfer files. My android is also not searching my laptop.

I turned Bluetooth 'on' (which I have installed the latest driver) on my Windows 8.1 laptop. I turned Bluetooth 'on' on my Android 4.1.1 tablet. I had my laptop search for 'Bluetooth' devices, but my tablet is never found. Is there something I am doing wrong?

So I bought this wireless game controller for my pc. I plugged it in at home and set to trying to getting it connected. It didn't seem to be connecting to any bluetooth network, so I looked for bluetooth in control panel and it didn't exist. I found out how to turn on bluetooth, but it seems in my 'Change PC Settings' menu there is no Wireless option. I went to the windows 8 metro thing and searched for 'wireless' and again nothing comes up at all. I checked my network and sharing center and then to change adapter settings and Ive got my Qualcomm Atheros AR922x Wireless Network adapter there and the device is working fine, just not connected to anything. Does that even work for bluetooth and connecting wireless peripherals?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a xbox that I have used (successfully, for about a year) as an extender for WMC 8. Im not sure what I did, but I am now unable to connect to my HTPC running win 8.1 pro. I have tried everything that even sniffs of a solution but I still get the error "unable to find extender". I can use the xbox to watch Hulu, Netflix but no WMC. My PC sees my xbox, however when I try to "test PC connection" thru the xbox System Settings/Network Settings/Test PC Connection I get, "network connected" - OK, then "PC Not Listed". I cant access my PC from the xbox "video player" either.
Ive tried all the popular fixes, turned off firewall, enabled extender services -- only to have them mysteriously disabled as soon as I attempt the extender setup process. Same mysterious disabling of the "Media Center Extenders" checked box in the "Allowed apps to communicate through Windows Firewall". Ive addressed all the sharing issues I can find, still nothing.
On Windows 7 I used to have an option to use the WPS button on the router to setup wifi but I am unable to find that option in Windows 8. Is this still an option and if so where is it located?

I read somewhere that the Bluetooth physical transmitter sends out some type of signal into the environment. I also read that it's probably not harmful... but since I probably will not be using Bluetooth in the immediate future, it's probably better off.
Is there an easy way in Windows 8 to shut off Bluetooth for now?
The issue is that I am unable to send files (pictures, in particular) to my laptop via Bluetooth. I have verified that the problem is with my PC rather than my phone by pairing and sending files to a different computer. I have tried everything I know to try, un-pairing and re-pairing, re-installed Intel Bluetooth drivers, uninstalled the phone from Device Manager and re-installed it, made sure the correct services were running, checked firewall settings, and synchronized PIM data.
I am able to send files to my phone from my laptop. After doing a few hours of research, it seems like a handful of folks (me included) do not have all of the Bluetooth options when clicking on the Bluetooth icon from the system tray. The main options I am missing are "Send Files" and "Receive Files".
I started fsquirt and selected "Receive Files", but sending still fails. When selecting "Open Settings" from the Bluetooth icon in the tray, I am taken to a nice little option menu. All of the correct settings are checked, but the interesting thing is that when I click on the "Open Receiving Window" button on the "Shared Folder" tab, absolutely nothing happens. No error, just nothing.
Under Windows 7-- whatever bluetooth software I had used to let me connect to my bluetooth enabled phone and browse the memory for pictures, videos, etc to download. I see no such option on Windows 8

View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to setup network profiles or something so that when I bring my Surface Pro to work and connect to the wireless network there it will use the static ip address I have but when I disconnect and then connect to my home wifi it will go back to DHCP? On my MacBook Pro I can go into the network settings and change the location profile I have setup for networks but I don't see anything like this for Windows 8.

When I say fine, I mean I could connect to the internet. Then when I woke up this morning, I turn on the wifi but it says "no network found". I check the router and it is working perfectly fine. I also checked the device driver and its also working properly.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have connected my ipod touch 4g to my new windows 8 laptop via bluetooth. It shows up in both the ipod and in the windows settings as being connected. However, once connected, i am unable to do anything with the connection.
There is no Windows tile showing the ipod, no obvious options in the ipod for how I can do anything with the connection, nothing. What am I supposed to be able to do once I have connected them via bluetooth? Is there a step I'm missing? I've read you can stream podcasts to the computer, for example, but there's supposed to be a windows tile showing the ipod which I'm definitely not getting either in the start menu or when I search.
I have a laptop with Windows 8.1 x64 with everything up to date. It has the Intel Wireless-N 7260 card, that has Bluetooth 4.0.
I've added my smartphone, and I can send files from my laptop to my smartphone. But when I try to send something from my device to my laptop, it fails. My laptop doesn't show any prompt about "Do you wanna receive this file" or something like that. My smartphone shows a "Sending file..." dialog, but nothing happens.
I installed the stock Bluetooth driver provided by the manufacturer of the laptop, but nothing changed except for one thing: my smartphone automatically sent me that the shared file failed. With the latest BT driver, the dialog of "Sending file..." stays for a long time.
This happens with all the smartphones I've tried. I formatted the laptop like a month ago, and BT at that time was working perfectly, I could send and receive files. My laptop is working great except for this annoying problem.
I had sizzling sound from my notebook speakers after i paired with my iphone 4 bluetooth. I am using that cuz of the hotspot thing. I cant use wifi hotspot cuz at my place i occasionally drop wifi connection from my cell phone cuz of the channel wifi uses. At the beginning i researched net very much and found out cuz of the phone channel is my problem.
Anyway in that hotspot after pair via bluetooth every video or mp3 or game sound starts like 10-15 second sound comes with sizzling, wheezy. After that maybe 1 hour or less it happens again. I am using last updates both win and bluetooth device.
I'm working with a friend with his Sony all in one desktop and got the modem set up and wireless router done but nowi can't get Internet access. I diagnosed the problem and get the message "can't find Dns server". It's running windows 7.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt was working earlier but couple of hours later when I booted up my Windows 8 laptop.. There was a red x on the network I was trying to connect to and a message saying my computer settings not matching.
I looked it up on youtube and I tried selecting "No authentication" and for encryption type I chose "None". But still didn't work.
Sometimes it would say limited first then when I try to reconnect the message above will appear.
I have a lenovo thinkpad e430, but, i cannot find the bluetooth device. This is odd because i have installed the latest bluetooth driver for windows eight x64 from lenovo's official support page yet, although i have restarted the computer and though .net framework is installed (if im correct, is there anyway i can check) i cannot find any place to turn on bluetooth.

Then it reverts to a different setting and I have to manually change it back.
Is there a way to make the internet connection sharing settings permanent?
I have had no problems with Win 7 computers finding my Canon G16 WiFi camera and connection it to them. But my Win 8.1 system just can't find the camera to get it connected.

I have 3 computers. 1 x Win 8 Pro and 2 x Win 8 Standard.
I know only the Win 8 Pro machine can be a Remote Desktop host.
In System Properties I have checked the box to "allow Remote Assistance to this computer" (I don't know detail, but I am aware this is something different to Remote Desktop).
Also in System Properties, I have selected to "Allow remote connections to this computer". I have also tried to check the sub-section of that "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (recommended)".
All computers are set up at home, connected to a regular home router.
When I try to connect to the host machine I get an error (I don't have details of that right now, but its some generic "no connection" error).
I've been trying to set up an old Savin 9033 printer through the company's router, but I couldn't find the network it's set up on from any other computer.
So I pull up Network & Sharing, see that Network Discovery is turned off.
I check it, go to click on "Save Changes" and nothing happens. I click it a few times and it kicks me back to the previous page, nothing saved. No password prompt or anything.
I double checked that all the appropriate services are running (DNS Client, SSDP Discovery, UPnP Device Host, Function Discoveryr Resource Publication, etc.) and made sure Network Discovery was allowed through Windows Firewall.
When I'm booted to Win 7 the TV finds the media server no problem, but in Win 8 on same machine it's Server Not Found. All the connections are Ethernet and the TV shows as connected in the router, so the problem is with Win 8. It's probably irrelevant but I have installed the Win 8 Media Center pack.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use PS Media Server with Windows 8.1, but honestly whatever app I am using is irrelevant. The problem is, when I try to connect my PS3 to PS3 Media Server, it seems to require me to go into the right side menu, click settings, then change PC settings, then click network and then under connections, click my network connection and turn on "Find Devices and Content".
However, as you can see from my screen shot, that option is missing.
I am on my PERSONAL laptop, connected to a private network (it doesn't matter if I use my wireless or wired connection direct to the router it doesn't show up either way). I have tried enabling and leaving a homegroup, neither of which works.

for a while I've been using netsh to add some IP addresses to the standard windows loopback adapter (interface idx=1) which worked fine until today when I ran windows update.
I have always used this command to assign my loopback adapter an extra IP:
netsh int ip add addr 1 address=111.111.111.111 mask=255.255.255.0 st=ac
(using an example IP address)
But since installing the updates, this returns the following error message:
Failed to configure the DHCP service. The interface may be disconnected.The system cannot find the file specified.
However, when I do "netsh int ip show int" it clearly shows the following interfaces:

and it's not disconnected at all. The only fix I have found so far was reinstalling windows 8.1 and not installing any updates... I just installed the updates again and it stopped working.
I cannot connect to my wireless anymore (all other devices in my home do) since windows has automatically installed the drivers for my canon printer.
In PC setting i do not have the button wireless anymore (i am pretty sure that i had it last week). Wi-Fi (Qualcomm Atheros AR964x) is in my network connections, but cannot connect. Diagnoses says problem with wireess adapter or access point.
So what did i do until now : I have restarted the whole interne installation ( rounter, and all other devices) many times Atheros driver is up to date and device status is "working properly"
i dont know anymore what to do more (except switching to linux and not being able to use some commerical software i rely on for my work) :-(
I have 2 machines connected via my router/hub (wired). One is running Windows 8.1 and the other Windows 7. Previously I had them sharing perfectly until I did a reinstall of Windows 8 (upgraded to Windows 8.1). I get this message on both machines whilst trying to access shared drives (permissions enabled to read, write, modify for all users):
I have a local account on the windows 8.1 as per previous installation. I have checked all the usual sharing settings and they are the same as in the previous working installation on both machines. I have left the homegroup and created a new one on the windows 8 machine and rejoined on the windows 7 machine all to no avail.
This is a fairly new install of Windows 8 pro (within the last month), and while trying to set up a static ip up today I found that I was unable to access the network properties or disable the connection in the Network Connections. I am pretty stumped as I am the only user of this computer and from what I can tell have the correct permissions to do so. When trying to check the properties it tells me "an unexpected error has occurred" with no further information.

I have a home network, several PCs connected to a modem/router (all with Ethernet cables), with ADSL access.
One PC has got Windows 8.1, with network settings as "private network", with sharing ("find devices and content") turned on. I am thinking about turning it off, to increase security, since I don't need to share files an printers.
My questions:
1) There is no risk to damage Windows by turning sharing on or off, with that "find devices and content" option in Windows 8.1?
2) After changing the sharing settings, I do not need to change any settings in Windows Firewall, such as resetting it to default?
