In January I bought a Dell laptop with Windows 8. I recently upgraded to 8.1. Now most app tiles have an x on the right hand side of them, and I cannot access PC settings, the app store, and most other apps.
View 2 RepliesI just built a secondary new work computer. Unlike my main rig which I just do a fresh install of 8.1. On this one I put Win 7 then Win 8 pro upgrade, once that's done I upgrade to 8.1 through store. thing is once I upgrade to 8.1 I notice pc settings and store wont open, if I click on them they flash and just return to desktop.

But it only seems to work on admin account.
I noticed same thing is happening with regular user account and the above fix does not work, in fact when I try and set permissions to system in registry step it mentions I get "Unable to set new owner on packages, access is denied"
I have Windows 8 Pro installed as an upgrade from Windows 7.
I cannot log into the Windows Store. I cannot even get to the point where I can log in.
When I click on the Store tile nothing happens.
I had some difficulty earlier and it was suggested that I change my login from a local account to a Windows account. I've done that, but it did not solve the problem of accessing the store. I have about 200 applications on this machine, many of which were migrated during the upgrade. There is no way I'm rebuilding this computer.
I can't access anything on my computer that has a app (any metro app) even the settings and the personalise stuff!!

The Windows App Store will not open. It spends a while thinking about it, then eventually times out. I would like to update to 8.1, but I think this is evidence of a bigger issue.
I think the real problem in my proxy settings in IE. The LAN settings have the Use Proxy Server permanently checked. No matter what I try, it wont uncheck. I have tried selecting the automatically detect settings box and putting in a dummy config. I ran Malware sweeps, ran virus sweeps, I removed any IE Add-ons. Reset IE. But it still wont let me uncheck that box..
It looks like there is a manual override within the Registry.
Today i reinstalled Win 8 after trying out win 8.1
The install went fine but i cannot open the Win 8 store
Also i cannot change my account settings and i have no pic on my account and cannot change it to one it is just black
with a head.
It is possible update for all users the Windows Store apps with a local account belonging to the Administrators group? Then, I believe that the management of updating of the Windows Store apps can also be managed only by administrators. Right? If so, how do I do this?

It tells me that i am not connected to the internet when i am clearly connected to it. My internet is through router and it works fine; i can access my browser just surfing the web. So I was trying to make this game called blacklight retribution run on windows 8 (it crashes for some reason)
And at some point i was installing some radio apps for the metro interface and trying to play the game at the same time (my PC is pretty weak -3.1ghz AMD processor, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd and a radeon 3300 hd integrated graphics card)
So my windows 8.1 (with the latest updates) crashed with the all-cool-new-bluescreen-of-death and after that my windows store app renders its content as if its broken, here's what it looks like:
I restarted windows numerous times, but the windows store app still appears to be "broken" but other apps seem to work as they should.
I am new to windows 8 and I couldn't find a way to restore windows to an earlier point, I know a very straightforward way - reinstall windows 8.1.
When I try to download Metro apps from Windows Store, I receive an error message saying "Something happened and this app couldn't be installed. Please try again later. Error code: 0x80010108".
I Googled it and tried to reset Windows Store cache by wsreset.exe but it didn't work. It occurs to every app I try to install.
Is it possible to download free apps from Windows Store directly (without going through "Windows Store" icon/apps in Windows 8.1? Moreover, the on and off option from Settings -> Change PC settings -> PC and devices -> Corners and edges -> App switching also seems to be forever gone. However after updating I found that photos app along with other system apps were updated to latest version and the feature which I loved was missing. When I press slideshow it just shows 1 image per frame.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAbout three days ago, all new style apps stopped working. I click on the tile, get a deep blue screen, and nothing else. On the left side of the screen, I can see the app as if it is working (just the name of the app, not content), so I can close the window and get back to desktop. The same applies to the STORE app. The only tiles that work, are the links to desktop applications, which open correctly on the desktop. The fault also affects all windows system apps. For example if I search on the start screen for "windows update", I can access "Windows update" as it just opens a window on the desktop, but if I click on "Windows update settings" nothing happens. The same is true with all windows system apps that open in the new start screen system.
I've uninstalled two Microsoft updates that were installed over the past three days, no change. I uninstalled AVAST, no change, so I reinstalled it! I tried restoring the system, but found that I had only one restore, and that was corrupted. Very strange. Without access to many windows system apps, the computer is really limited. The desktop seems to be working OK. I can't refresh the PC, as firstly it is a system app that runs from the start screen, and secondly because I upgraded from win 8 to 8.1 online, this can't be done anyway, as I don't have a disc. Experiencing issues trying to download game apps from the Microsoft Store. He gets a message stating that the install can not be completed and the error code is 0x80070091.
I used Team Viewer to connect to his and attempted to do several different free games and all of them do the same thing.
I ran Malwarebytes and had some Mindspark pups which we eliminated. Did several of those scans and they have come back fine.
Checked his Windows Updates and there only 3 optional ones, Silverlight, bing bar and something else, can't remember which right now.
Ran the HP assistant to make sure that there were no HP updates that needed to be done.
Then, ran a sfc/scannow and the 1st run through came back with some corrupted stuff and, I guess, it fixed some stuff?
Ran that again earlier today and the log came back much shorter than the 1st run last night.
At this point, I don't know where to proceed from there... I am attaching the log ...

I rarely use Win 8 apps, and run in desktop mode almost exclusively. Was having issues and was suggested I advance the OS to 8.1. That requires Store app. Store app gives a very generic "unable to connect" message with no options. I've done some research here and tried various things to no avail:
-refresh the store app
-a few cmd things
-restart
-turned off McAfee AND windows firewall
Some suggest doing some type of system restore which claims to wipe out all desktop system apps.That seems quite extreme for a program/connectivity issue.
I'm uploading the cmd details as graphics below.
Is there any way to save downloaded Apps from the store? The only option I see is install.

I consider myself an advanced user, but I still overlook a lot of things and make mistakes like everyone.
Basically, Windows 8.1's Metro apps and tiles keep refreshing to default settings like it's the first time I've used them or opened them.
When I go to use Skype, it will always ask if it is allowed to use my webcam and microphone. It seems to remember the settings for a while, then forgets them.
I'm assuming this is CCleaner related, but I unchecked all of the settings that correspond to the Metro applications, and this changes nothing.
I'm unsure if I am actually deleting important information Windows needs without knowing. I usually delete logs on top of the usual things to keep my computer clean.
It says my internet is too slow. I have no other choices

This is for windows 8.1, I'm assuming that's cool on this site?

I am having problems getting into the windows store on my wife's acer laptop. When I click on the store tile it goes to full screen for a second but then gives me no option to sign in and no error code, it just reverts back to the desktop tile. When I right click on the tile a small tick appears in the bottom right of the tile but when I go to settings in charms no settings appears for the store.
I have
-installed all the Windows 8 updates and have run the check that they have installed correctly using the check prog and they are good.
-emptied the store cache
-tried turning off my bitdefender av
-checked that I can access my ms account
my computer started glitching everytime I opened the Windows Store or any other metro apps, I immediately found this forum.
I have already followed most the steps on this tutorial, running the troubleshooter many times and restarting after each time.

Here is a screenshot of what happens everytime. I don't know if its clear, but essentially this weird thing happens where it doesn't load, and right off the start the splash icon, if you will, and its little circle loading animation all shift to the top left of the screen, just forever.
My Windows 8 is completely genuine so that's not the problem; when I first bought the computer, it came with Win 8 and the store worked fine. All of a sudden, the Skype app would load but be blank, and all the apps started doing this. I don't know what happened that caused this all.
EDIT: The screen shot was taken, uploaded to paint, and cropped to fit better, so the resolution shown in the picutre caption is not my computer resolution. My native computer resolution is 1366X768.
