My system suddenly turned off, I turned it back on freeze at start up cant get to F11 to start recovery then goes on black screen. How can I bypass or having my computer running again, ( Did not make a recovery disc).

I have gone through all 106 posts about Windows 7 freezing at startup but I have not as yet found one that fits my problem exactly. The following problem is intermittent at switch on, and when it happens the only way out of it is to power down then switch back on again, maybe once or maybe 3 or 4 times before it is O.K. In the past couple of weeks, after switching on Windows 7 it boots up as normal to the desktop, but the first icon you try to open whether it be a desktop Icon which will highlight or a toolbar button at the bottom or even the 'Start' button which will depress the computer will not open these items. The mouse pointer can still be moved about the screen so the computer has not actually frozen. I have checked the startup folder which is empty
View 6 Replies View Related my laptop (Compaq Presario CQ61) contracted a virus that did some heavy damage. So I go into the boot up menu and decide to restore the laptop back to the factory settings, just to be on the safe side so I can start afresh.Now it's on a screen that says 'Factory image recovery preperation' and it's currently copying files to restore the hard drive, but it's froze on 58%.
Last night I did the same thing and left it overnight while I went to bed, and when I woke up this morning it was still froze on 1%.
Edit: The loading bar is still there, but the place where '58%' was has gone. My mouse is moving but very slowly.
Edit: My laptop is very warm and I can't feel or hear the fan... it's going to overheat. I've had to turn it off.

I am performing an image recovery. I have 4 DVDs that came with my laptop from geeksquad. They say HP System Backup. Everything runs smoothly in disc 1. When I get to disc 2 nothing happens at all. I do have an external hard drive. I was considering trying to copy the System back up discs from a different computer onto the external and then trying to do the system restore.

I can't use any of the registry repair tools that I have found because they all require booting into windows to run them and I can't boot windows.I am able to copy the files in RegBack to a flash drive, so I did that.My question is whether there is a tool that I can run on ANOTHER Windows 7 computer that will scan the registry files on the flash drive instead of the files of the computer I am running windows successfully on?

I think it may be a one time thing so I just let it restart but I get a BSOD again. This keeps happening for 3-4 times. Afterwards I think a system restore might fix the problem. When I went to the startup repair screen, right when I'm about to click the system restore button I get a BSOD again. I think it may be something on my drive so I burn a recovery disk. When it's searching for my Windows installations, I get a BSOD again. All of the recovery methods I know of get blocked by this annoying BSOD.

I have also at this time moved the thread from Networking to Windows 7.Okay, this is my boyfriend's laptop. He's left it with me to see if I can fix it. I'm at work right now, and it is at home, so I can't try anything until I get home tonight.Here'e the situation, as best I can tell:He has 2 laptops...one is old, and connects fine, the other is probably 6 months old - a Dell - Windows 7, and this is the one that is having problems. The other laptop has no problem with its connection - it is just the Dell laptop. He brought it over to my house last night, and it is doing the same thing. It finds and connects to my network, but it states that it is a "limited access" connection, which essentially means you have no internet connection (apparently).
So here is what I have found out. For one, his laptop came with few months subscription to McAfee...and apparently that is now expired. He's never renewed it. I did put MalwareBytes on there for him, when he got the thing, but I don't think he runs it unless he thinks there is a problem. I've told him to keep it updated, but I guess he thinks I can fix it if there is a problem. Again... (Once we get this fixed, he WILL keep this stuff current..darn it.) Anyway...he said he kept getting some popups - the ones that ask if you want to "allow a program to make a change to your computer"...and he always said no. I think he got several of those in one night. He ran the MalwareBytes, and it found and quarantined some malware (I don't know what sort of things - I was not there when he ran it) and then when he tried to access his network again, he got the "limited access" thing. So...something has happened, just on that laptop. I messed around with it a little last night, but I couldn't get anything working.
I want to switch my graphic (I have dual graphic one is intel and one is ATI mobility Radeon), I click okay to switch to power saving graphic intel, and so the screen blacks out. It never respond after black out, I made hard restart and screen freeze at the win 7 icon. No lucky, I hard press again and start up to ask me if I want to scan for my previous startup problem, I did and it tried fixing the problem til next morning. And as you can imagine nothing happened and I am still stuck with my har drive being unbootable.Now I cant help thinking that this was due to my pen drive being in the middle of that process in some way, but I have since removed it, burned it and buried in a forest, and still my problem persists.Since I havent found another solution online, I think now that the only way for me to get my PC back running is by reformatting my SSD (while hopefully keeping all my RAID files intact) and reinstalling windows. BBUUUTT!!! I have 100s of hours worth of Skyrim in that drive, and if I loose that I will seriously freak out! I am having a nightmare with my Dell Latitude E4300 laptop. At the moment it runs a continuous loop of start up repair and will not allow me to even attempt to get into Windows 7 until this has been done. When it runs the test it stops, giving the error message no OS files found on disk. Everytime I restart this process just continues.It is a work laptop, so I do not have and windows recovery disks.To make matters even worse, before the startup repair loop the laptop wouldnt even let me into the Windows system, even in safe mode. After attempting to get into safe mode it would stop at the driver classpnp.sys. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron and a while ago I shut down my PC and the next morning I was faced with options to repair my computer. It hung on the screen for ages before it actually came up with startup repair and supposedly fixed the problem. A few days later, everything got very slow and started to freeze a lot and before long, booting the computer got very slow as well as it hung for about ten minutes on a black screen after the 'welcome' screen before finally starting up. I decided to reinstall the operating system (I did NOT reformat the C drive), so I borrowed my Grandma's external hard drive and copied my files. After reinstalling using a Dell Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium Re-Installation DVD, I copied and deleted the files off the external hard drive onto my PC (I didn't know it would create a Windows.old folder) and started installing programs. Then I left it overnight to install quite a big program. This morning, somehow it had turned off. I turned it on and it gave me the safe mode options and a 'start windows normally' option. I chose the latter and after typing my password it hung on the welcome screen again. I left it for ages and it just went back to the user login screen again. I pressed the red button in the corner to shut it down but it just hung once again on an empty screen so I did a hard shutdown (held down the power button). I turned it on again...startup repair. It gave me the option for system restore, which I did (then realising when it finished that I hadn't made a backup). I booted it, and again it wouldn't start properly. At this time, safe mode booted fine. After trying various things (even using a compressed air can to get rid of dust) and a few hard shutdowns, suddenly every option from the advanced boot menu took me to startup repair except 'Repair your Computer' which gave the normal options for repair (although now it only gives me 2, Startup Repair and DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup. Now when I do startup repair, some times it says it has fixed the problem, and sometimes it says it cannot be fixed automatically and gives me information on the problem (a few things it said were: 'StartupRepairOffline', 'AutoFailover' and 'CorruptRegistry').
I can't reinstall my computer because then I would lose my precious files.
Is there some way I can save my files and reinstall or even just save my files somehow or am I screwed?
I have Unallocated space at the very end of my hard drive, even after the 25gb Recovery Partition, this is due to copying my old hard drive onto this new one via Clonezilla, and it automatically keeping the unallocated space at the end. Can I either move the unallocated space around the Recovery Partition, or delete the Recovery Partition altogether? Sorry if I am being a little unclear.

I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows.However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore.It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.

Clicking on the Administrator gives me a desktop with an on-screen keyboard; the computer keyboard disabled, and a panel saying,"FAILED, The application has failed to start." Going back and clicking on the Standard User icon gets me running for the most part. Here's the BIG problem. Every time I try to install any program, the User Account Control box drops down and asks for the Administrator Password, plus the question,"Do you want to allow the following programs to make changes to your computer?" You click "Yes", but, since no one is in the Administrator office, your installation comes to a halt. This blocks "Install" and "Uninstall". I get lots of messages I need Adobe Flash Player. I've trie over and again to install it, going to Windows 32 bit, but can't uninstall my previous tries. It will always download, and that's all. I've tried to install my digital camera's CD, but can't.
is not empty - it is almost 80% full but when i click on it there are no files. Tried - to the extent of my knowledge - to see if the files are hidden but didn't reach anywhere. Tried a restore point but that didnt work either.

I'm using my other built right now coz I have to work. I don't remember what updates I did last night but I do remember the dvd drive firmware was updated.I popped in the system restore disc, start it up and the same page appears: Start with windows start up or Start windows normally. Tried both and neither one of them would bring up system restore. This built was only a month old and was hardly used so far so no system restore point was created at this point. I have files in it that I would like to keep but I can't get to them right now so a clean fresh install is needed but I can't get it up.
I am on a 640 GB western digital HDD running Windows 7 Professional.
The symptom is that the computer RANDOMLY - no pattern to the freezing whatsoever- freezes. During this time, whatever sound was playing will stutter for a while, the screen will remain frozen with the image that was last on it. Their is no keyboard response, numlock etc... or mouse response.
Upon restarting, the event log has no recollection of what caused the issue. I have checked,many, many times, over the course of 3 weeks now. The only error it contains is the one stating that the computer unexpectedly shut down. Nothing else is pertinent.
I have all the latest drivers, for everything, BIOS updates, etc... as well as windows updates.
On top of that, i have reformatted my computer, and the problem still persists, but here's the kicker:
On a secondary drive, running windows XP professional 64 bit, the computer works just fine, never freezes at all, so i doubt its any hardware component, i have left it on for days to test this, and it still functions properly.

i used to get the BSOD very often so i decided to recover the system to the initial state . i did that and everything was fine , then i updated the windows 7 service pack 1 and finished the installation and rebooted my computer , the start-up at least took half an hour at that time and the service pack 1 installation showed "not successful " i tried to again to update the service pack1 which showed 73.6mb - 892.6mb so i updated it again and again the same thing happened.

I am doing a clean install, Windows 7 from XP.Like many here I can get to the completing installation point before the installation freezes.It seems to be going well then it re-boots, at this point the display is a smaller format and the cusor freezes and the installation haults.I suspect that the graphics card might be the problem, GenForce 9800GTX.
