BSOD On Startup Error 0x000000f4 Startup Takes Long Time
Jul 27, 2012
i used to get the BSOD very often so i decided to recover the system to the initial state . i did that and everything was fine , then i updated the windows 7 service pack 1 and finished the installation and rebooted my computer , the start-up at least took half an hour at that time and the service pack 1 installation showed "not successful " i tried to again to update the service pack1 which showed 73.6mb - 892.6mb so i updated it again and again the same thing happened.

Just got a laptop, running Win 7 Home Premium, back from Geek Squad, now it takes a LONG time to load up when booting. It takes well over 5 minutes before you can do anything. other than taking it back to Best Buy?

My computer was superfast until it started giving problems. It literally takes 30 minutes to start up and it freezes every 2 minutes. The Windows Experience Index showed a rating of 7.9 for the processor but now it only shows 4.9. The pc is quite new, I bought it 19 months ago.
Here are the specifications:
Motherboard - Intel Desktop Boards DH67BL Media Series
Processor - Intel CORE i5
Hard drive - Western Digital 500GB
RAM - 2 Kingston DIMM 2GB DDR3 (4GB)
OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
How can I fix my pc or at least stop it from freezing.

I have BSOD on a cold startup everyday. On most time after the first BSOD of the day the PC will run fine for that whole day. There will be two consecutive BSOD on certain occasions. The problem stops for a week after I updated the NEC USB 3.0 Host controller so it seems there is other problem causing the BSOD but now I am not so sure.

My computer gets at least ONCE BSOD every time I turn it on after a long period of shutdown. It also sometimes randomly just shuts off or give me additional BSODs. It has got to the point that I can't even load to windows recently, which lead me to reformat my computer. I know the drivers here are not the latest ones, I am trying to use only the drivers from the CDs that came with the hardwares because the last time I used all the latest ones it still caused BSODs. I am not sure what other information I need to post up.

My boot up seems fine it is only after the desktop appears that i have a problem, So after the desktop screen appears it seems to take about 3 minutes to look for and find the internet connection, I have a second laptop ( Toshiba ) also with Windows 7 and this is fine. Different to most peoples boot up problems, mine problem is that it takes about two minutes to show the boot up animation after the HP logo. All it shows is a black screen with a little flashing white line for about two minutes.

This problem started about 2 months ago. Windows takes a long time to shut down, at least 5 minutes. Sometimes it doesn't shut down and reboots.Every shuts down normally, then the grey screen "SHUTTING DOWN" just seems to hang.On one recommendation I updated the BIOS, that didn't seem to work.I scanned in safe mode with Malware Bytes Anti Malware and the computer is clean. I use AVAST antivirus.

I have an HP Z800 Workstation with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. When I start the computer it seems to be ready in somewhere under a minute after the desktop comes on, meaning there are no spinning circles the mouse moves smoothly etc. However if I try to launch one of the programs in the taskbar, Firefox, Thunderbird, it takes at least seven to ten minutes for the program to come on and be ready. At this point if I click Start>All Programs it is completely empty with no icons or folders at all in there and will be for about the same amount of time. The Start menu freezes open like that and all I can do is to wait. And wait I do because it makes it much worse if I hold in the power button and turn the computer off because then I can usually not go past that black screen that comes on for a brief second before it goes on the desktop. I have very few things that are active in msconfig so I have no idea what's going on and why the computer takes so long to start.

My wife has a new Acer netbook which came with 7 Starter. I upgraded it to Home Premium 32bit. She is complaining that after closing the lid, or hibernating, or sleep mode, it take at least two minutes before the netbook connects so that she can use the internet. My two laptops do not have this problem at all. All three machines use the same router.
The signal strength icon on the system tray shows a yellow blob which stays until a connection is made. It doesn't always happen, but enough for hair tugging sessions!

I'm currently pissed off about tmy unit which is taking too long to shutdown. I've tried the methods posted here to lessen the startup time and shut-down time of a computer but it only affected the booting process. when I shutdown it still takes that long even with the tweaks.

I'm not sure why this is happening, but if I attempt to open a drive in Windows Explorer, it takes a really long time (sometimes several minutes). It takes that long for the progress bar on the address bar to fill up. Does anyone know why this would be?

A certain set of programs take over a minute to run. If I double click the executable it takes over a minute before the program launches.Equally attempting to access the file properties takes a similar amount of time.(the file happens to be audioconverter.exe (part of a set of programs to re-encode mkv's - e.g. strip out of the dts track and reencode with ac3, etc.)Only files in this set of sub-directories seem to be affected, the rest of the machine performs perfectly

Everything was fine with my pc for about 6 months now since I did a fresh install on a ssd. Today everything was working great, I never install windows 7 updates and use my own nod32 anti virus. I have windows 7 64x
I shutdown the computer and everything was fine. When I tried starting the computer again it was stuck on the windows logo with starting windows words. The animation of the flag was animated and not frozen. My post message submitted at a regular timeframe. I did do windows restore and still takes about 30 min for windows to start. Tried windows repair, took 30 min to even get into it, and startup repair says there is nothing wrong. Safe mode gets stuck too and won't start up.
I also checked bios to see if there where any changes, but everything seems in order, the boot sequence and order and so on. I have no clue whats wrong and scared to turn off the computer incase next time it completely stops starting.

I am not computer savvy when it comes to these sorts of things. The heading states it all and am wanting a bit more of an insight at any problems that may be occurring etc.. Also, as of late I have noticed that my DVD player refuses at times to read a DVD movie or game title, and only after a few open / closes it seems to work. - x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit - the original installed OS on the system? As Above - an OEM or full retail version? Retail Version
