Use Two Routers In The Same Network?
Sep 3, 2011
The scenario is: I have a PC running Windows 7 which is wirelessly connected to my Netgear modem-router. I wish to install a security camera outside my house, instead of running a long ethernet cable all the way back into my house from the camera to the Netgear, is it possible that I can connect the camera to another router outside, and then get that second router to communicate with my Netgear inside the house, and thus be able to control my security camera from inside?
Now I know the security camera can be connected to a router, and I can install software to remotely control it, but I'm not sure how I can go about using my Netgear to communicate to a second router. I haven't purchased the second router or the camera yet, but I want to know if it's possible before I do.

For some reason the network from point A to B keeps failing. Going to explain the set up I have right now. DSL and modem are in room 1 then that plugs into the wall to the switch in room 2. Many things are connected to the switch, roku player, dish network receiver and other Ethernet connections for other rooms and a router so we can get wifi. Now for some reason the connection from the switch to the modem keeps going out. The internet works just fine because i can plug the ethernet cable from the modem directly to a computer in the office. However from a computer in another room I cannot cmd ping the modem says 0%. What would cause this to fail, it works for hours then i have to unplug/re-plug the cables to get it working again.

setup two routers (Netgear N600 routers)? In House A (My Barn) I have 3 camera's hook up to my router. In House B (My House), I have a N600 hookup to my modem and 3 of my computers. What would it take to be able to hook up House A to House B, so that I can view my House A camera's?

Windows 7 home premium 64 bit I have a D-Link DIR 825 router and when I open Network & sharing, under Network Infrastructure I see a Linksys wrt110, at times it's icon goes away for a few minutes, then re-appears, If I right click on the icon I don't get a delete option (greydd out), if I select properties I'm asked for a PIN number. I don't own a Lynksys router and I'm wondering why it's showing up on my network?

I have a peculiar network setup that causes me to require two routers. My laptop connects to router B, which then connects to router/adsl-modem A.
{Internet} ===MTU:1460===> [A] ---MTU:????---> [B] ===> Laptop
I have set up router A with all the correct settings provided by my ISP, one specifically being the MTU of 1460.I now need to know what I should set router B's MTU at. Should it be the same at 1460, or the full network speed of 1500.

I am running Windows 7 RC 7100 (of course) and I'm wanting to get a network setup between two computers over two routers. Here's my story:
I just moved in with two of my friends and we have 6 computers (3 laptops and 3 desktops) and we have 2 360s and 1 ps3. So needless to say my friends 5 port router wasn't enough for all the equipment so we decided to use my router with his.
Now after a day of configuring we have it running smooth and playing games with no troubles but there is one problem we want to access media on the ps3 from all the computers. I can access my media from the ps3 no problem since I'm on the same router as it but I can't access my friend media because he is on the 2nd router.
We have two belkin routers the main one has my friends PC, his 360, his ps3, and my router connected to it. My router has the remaining two pcs and my ps3 connected to it. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I have tried putting the systems on one work group but that failed.
I also tried connecting to one homegroup but I can't detect his group and vice versa. If anyone could tell me how to set this up I would be grateful. My friend thinks it's might involve the routers DHCP but I'm not sure.

I am planning on holding a LAN Party in a month or 2 and requier a bit of help because it is my first. About 6 - 10 people will be coming.
I need help on a few things and any imput people could put in would be greatly appreciated because I am very lost!
I was planning on purchasing a switch (Still not sure what to purchase yet. I am looking for something around 10 ports) and connecting it directly by a network cable to my Belkin Wireless G Universal Range Extender Router. Then connecting all the computers to the switch. All the computers connected to the switch will be running either XP, Vista or 7.
Is this going to work? What kind of settings am I going to need to change on the OS's to make them all be able to interact with each other in the games. Are their easier ways to do this?
I have no previous networking experience and am only 14, so go easy.

802.11n wireless router: is this hardware supported by all windows operating systems?I am planning to buy one for my brother, he is using windows XP. I am using Windows 7, and my brother in-law is using windows Vista. We all play WoW or Heroes of Newerth together in my bro's house. So I am wondering if this would work for all the three computers. Also my brother who has XP is using a Desktop.Does it need any Wireless adapters for it to recognize the signal from the router?

I have a netgear router wgt624 v2. I've had it since 2003 or 04. when I got it my network seemed to be fast and connections to it quick.now sometimes my wireless seems to have a moment or two where it searches for a connection. I figured that was due to all of the neighbors who now have wireless too. and sometimes now devices are having ip conflicts. for example my printer is set to use a static ip and the router will often give that ip to my laptop. so then the printer will not work unless I restart the laptop.

My Nephew has a very long house and a computer cannot get a signal from the wireless router which is at the other end of the house. He doesn't want to run RJ45 cables. Could he use 2 routers so the second one connects wireless to the first one which is connected to his adsl phone socket by a ethernet cable. If so how would I go about setting them up, settings wise. If so would the computer also be able to talk to each other to be able to transfer files etc to each other.. (enable workgroup & sharing drives/folders) I know how to setup this bit.

I'm having to write this because my old bridged network worked so well for so long that I totally forgot how I ever set it up in the first place, but I recall that it was simple and involved:
- The two were connected via wifi - the primary one having a physical connection to roadrunner modem
- The two had the same SSID, same Security method and passkey, different base IP addresses [192.168.1.1, and 192.168.1.21]
- beyond that it gets hazy... what "mode" was the secondary in? somewhere I input to the subordinate router the MAC address of the primary router... dunno where/which field accepted that
- do both need to be set to a fixed & same channel, as opposed to variable/Auto?
- what all was turned off on the secondary?
- both had full use of both their wired connections/clients and wifi
- one of these is N-300mbps, and g/b, the other is g/b. do I need to limit anything?
Its not necessarily important to me that the connected devices all share with one another - I have strange clients anyway and its not needed. the windows 7 devices will be ok on the homegroup.

Ethernet 24mbps connection crashes every 10mins~There's the thread I made, and all of the changes I did I posted there. So if you read the thread. When I got back home and after few days I noticed that I can't connect to the router anymore. ipconfig just displays some random "85.157.0.1" which doesn't work.

I earlier (roughly 6months ago) made a topic about this. (Can't access routers webpage / control page anymore.)
I recently got a brand new computer with a fresh copy of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1 and the same problem is still there. The problem is: I can't access the routers webpage when I'm using ethernet. It's fine when I'm using wireless, but the thing is I don't have a adapter built in to the pc, so I had to use a USB adapter which my brother took.
So, I'm stuck with the ethernet cable. I got two cables, both of them give the same results, so atleast it shouldn't be the cable or such. Also, I can easily access the page on my mobile and laptop.

I'm having difficulty trying to get my new Windows 7 pc set up to share files across my existing home (wired) network which consists of 1 desktop pc running WinXP and 1 laptop running WinXP.I want the 'C' drive on each of the 3 computers to be shared. I've had the 2 Windows XP computers set up and working like this for several years without a problem but I can't seem to get the 'C' drive on the Windows 7 computer to do the same. All 3 computers have the same workgroup name and none of them require passwords to log on to Windows. There are no problems with the firewalls on any of the machines. On the Windows 7 PC when I right click on the 'C' drive and select the 'Sharing' tab, I have set this up to be shared and when I click on the 'Advanced Sharing' button there is a tick in the 'Share this folder' box, the 'Share name' is 'C'. If I then click on the 'Permissions' button, this shows a 'Group or user name' 'Everyone' and this group has Full Control, Change and Read boxes ticked. As far as I can see there is nothing more I can do.
However from my Windows XP computer, when I go to My Network Places and double click on the icon for the Windows 7 'C' drive, I get the message "\Computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found"I've subsequently set up a sub folder (of the Windows 7 'C' drive) for sharing by right clicking on the folder, choosing 'Share with' and then selecting 'Specific people'. I then set up a group called 'Everyone' with read/write permissions. Now I can navigate to this folder from my 2 WinXP computers.

My rig uses a Centrino Advanced-N 6230 wireless mini half-card. It reports the correct name except within the wireless network list. Instead of 6230 it reports 6320. I searched the registry to see if I could find the error, but nothing found. It's only a nuisance, and a minor one at that.

Unable to see home network computers in Windows Explorer Network screen.
I have a home network with 2 laptops and 1 desktop. The desktop I use as a "file server" in that all work done on the laptops is stored to the desktop. The desktop computer name is HAL. One laptop is fine and sees the network. The other just stopped seeing it; rebooted the laptop; rebooted HAL; did a number of refreshes without any luck. I opened EXCEL and found a worksheet that was listed that I knew was saved on HAL. Was able to open the file and when I tried the SAVE AS I could navigate through all of HAL just as normal. Went to Windows Explorer and still no HAL listed as a COMPUTER on the NETWORK. I have a internet connection so I know I am making it to the router at least. And when I check NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER it shows an active home network. The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 Build 7601.

This sounds really noobie of me but is it possible to improve local network transfer speed by adding a 2nd network card. I was planning to connect one exclusively for lan transfers and another one hooked to a separate wireless router.
Right now only a maximum of 3 users can stream SD videos off the PC before it gets a little choppy.
The pc in question runs on windows 7 and it's board has built in gigabit, I happen to have a spare gigabit card.

Home network with Wifi and ethernet. Using 3x Notebooks and 3x workstations. One of the workstations (W7 ultimate) keeps changing between Public and Home. When this happens, the internet connection dies. I cannot see other workstations either when on public network. Workstation using wifi. Does the same on cable. When it changes to Public, it disconnects from the internet and I cannot get to the router even though it has the workstation has an IP(DHCP or static). Default gateway and subnet is correct. TCP v4 is being used and nothing else is enabled.
Why is this happening?
- I have tried DHCP as well as Static addresses
- Reconfigured NIC(Netgear WG311T), uninstalled and reinstalled it.
- Removed Wifi connection and re-added it.
- Changed auth type, encryption type and keys to connection
Have I covered everything? The only thing different is that I installed a new router - Duo Plus 300wr. It cannot be the router because all the other notebooks connect to it wireless and so does my iPad, Android device and tablet...so it rules that out?

But after we created the individual users like john@domainname.local to all users. this is i believe the cause of problem. When we acess the server via the software it freezed for 5 seconds and then repeat to normal state. And after some time it hangs for 2 minutes.

Today, I managed to redecorate my bedroom; where my computer sat on top of a shaky, wooden desk. That desk is now gone, caput, and replaced by a much bigger, sturdier and prettier glass replacement. Before I dissasembled the computer to re-decorate, I was able to browse the internet at ease. There were no problems at all...However, after the new desk was setup - and all wires replaced in their correct slots, I find that I am unable to connect to the internet, or even the house's network! For the past year, I have been wired to the router using a RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It was plugged into an extension cord, in my room, into the Ethernet port in the back of my computer. Downstairs, it's twin was situated no less than 2 feet away from the router - plugged into the first port. Now, when I boot up the computer, the network notification presents the following message: "Unidentified Network. No network access", and sometimes presents a yellow ! next to it. So, I am reduced to typing on my mother's laptop - which has no problems connecting to the network.I am able to use the ipconfig /release command, but unable to use the /renew - it hangs in the command prompt, then tells me that the DHCP server cannot be located. The IP, beforehand, was reverted to 169.254.223.117 - before all of this, I was 192.168.0.5?

I have a linksys usb600n (v2) using the Windows 7 driver from linksys. It installs and is displayed correctly in Device Manger - BUT it doesn't appear in the Network and Sharing Center as an adapter. This same device and driver were previously working just fine in this system - but I rebuilt the OS (clean install) after testing a number of security products out.
The initial install went fine - no problems that I remember - just plug in the adapter and install the drivers obtained from Linksys (Ver 3.00.01.0). I tried the same thing on the re-build and it looks fine until I go into the Network Center and can't set up wireless networking since the adapter does not appear.
SIW shows TWO (2) linksys USB adapters under Hardware/Network Adapters, but does not show the network adapters in the Network Information section.
Any ideas?
