Okay so I just tried to add a new network location in the My Computer.
I set the network address as \MYLAPTOP but the program didn't let me do that because I need to specify a folder. I don't want to specify a folder because I just want to use the root folder. So I then typed it as \MYLAPTOP\ with an extra slash at the end. The shortcut was made but it didn't work so I tried to remove it.
Now every time I press "delete" on the shortcut Explorer.exe crashes and restarts. I tried this in safe mode with and without internet access but it always crashed.
Now I'm just looking for a way to manually delete the icon through registry or some other editor.

I have Windows 7 Pro and I connect my laptop to many different customer networks. It does a nice job identifying the network and setting a default printer etc. However...
I have one customer with 15 cellular routers that I maintain. Each of them has a static LAN IP with DHCP turned off. As soon as I manually set the static IP Windows Identifies the network and I'm good. Then when I done I need to manually set the static IP back to DHCP. Is there any way for Windows to switch to a static IP that I assign when I plug into these routers?
or
Is there some third party software (free would be nice) that can do that?
My old IBM laptop had some software that did exactly that. I think it was called Access connections.
Any thoughts ideas or suggestions?

I am running Windows 7 64-bit on my main PC. I also have a fileserver running Fedora 9/Samba that houses all our documents, video, music, and pictures. I have mapped network drives to these locations. I have no issues at all accessing the remote shares, either through UNC path, or through the networked drives.
When I go to the indexing configuration, the mapped drives do not appear as a target to pick for indexing. Also, I can't add these folders to the respective library folders, because I get an error indicating that the location is not indexed. So I'm hoping that if I can index these locations, I can then add them to my library.

I have a number of PCs connecting to a server where we house our personal folders. The server also houses music, basketball games, our photos, applications (like drivers and updates etc). On XP and vista I could update shell folders in registry to point each of the various locations (Like My Videos, My Documents, My Pictures etc), to a location on the server.
I updated the shell folder locations in registry only to find that it says location is unsupported because the network locations are not indexed
I have turned indexing off because it is a total waste of resources. We have everything stored on separate drives by category of item. For us, sedarching is not required, stuff is easy to find.
So how can I point the shell folders to a network location without turning on indexing?

Unable to see home network computers in Windows Explorer Network screen.
I have a home network with 2 laptops and 1 desktop. The desktop I use as a "file server" in that all work done on the laptops is stored to the desktop. The desktop computer name is HAL. One laptop is fine and sees the network. The other just stopped seeing it; rebooted the laptop; rebooted HAL; did a number of refreshes without any luck. I opened EXCEL and found a worksheet that was listed that I knew was saved on HAL. Was able to open the file and when I tried the SAVE AS I could navigate through all of HAL just as normal. Went to Windows Explorer and still no HAL listed as a COMPUTER on the NETWORK. I have a internet connection so I know I am making it to the router at least. And when I check NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER it shows an active home network. The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 Build 7601.

Also theres a bench icon also but that says unidentified network and "public network" underneath.

Also it's still there after a restart. Is there anyway i can get rid of it? Maybe a command prompt to clear network history or something?

I am doing some troubleshooting and I want to completely remove my network connection. I remember with Windows XP when I did this, it would re-detect the network card and reload the drivers and settings after I rebooted.
I can disable the connection but not delete. How do I remove the connection in Windows 7 x64?

My computer won't connect to the internet right now. My router shows that the internet is connected, but my computer says there is a network connection problem.
I want windows to start over and create a new network. This is my problem.
If I right click on the network icon in the taskbar and open "Network & Sharing Center" it opens and I click on "Connect to a network" it opens a window in the taskbar giving me an option to open the network & sharing center?! Which just starts the cycle over again.
I wan't to be able to see the network that windows has set up and delete it or create a new one but can't seem to figure it out. Windows 7 is too user friendly now that I can't find any of the advanced controls?

I have a Lenovo T61 that I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate from Vista Ultimate. Wireless networking works fine except for one profile that was used in Vista. When I try to connect to that particular site, the network attempts connect but always fail. The network trys to connect to a profile that was previously used in this situation, however the properties indicate Windows Vista. I believe if I could delete the profile, a new one would be created and connection could be made.
The problem is: I cannot delete the profile. I cannot locate it on the system. The only time it appears is when trying to connect to this particular site. A text file is generated when I use the troubleshooter. Read more at the forum...

I installed a program and then uninstalled it. However, I noticed there's a stupid shared network folder in my main "NAME-PC" network. How do I remove this? I would like to remove the "sbp" folder, but there is no "delete" option. No matter what I do, this folder cannot be deleted and is here to stay....even if I try to mess around with the sharing options. I am logged in as an administrator as well. I understand that my "Users" folder is the main one that I would like to keep, but I cannot get rid the other folder

I have the home edition. I'm trying to delete a "ZTE Proprietary USB Modem" profile. I've removed the program through device manager and it's gone, but it still shows up when I click on "connect to a network". My adhoc network is also there. How do I get rid of both of them. I'd like to start with a clean slate to get my Ad hoc network going. I've tried the "Manage Wireless Networks" but they don't show up there.

I've just installed a new draft N wifi router to replace my previous B/G router. Perhaps foolishly, I kept the same name for my home network. My new Acer TravelMate, which has draft N capability, was happy (but slow) on the old system and works OK when I connect it to the new router by ethernet. However when I to connect it via wifi it says "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network".

I have a wireless LAN sharing internet through a Mac Book Pro, i have no problems connecting to this with Ubuntu, an android phone, and other Apple products. The only system that i'm having problems with is the windows partition....The network is listed in available connections, but seems to have the wrong WEP key because it fails to connect. However I cannot delete the connection and start again as the network is not listed in 'Manage Wireless Networks'.
I'm stuck!! I cannot scan for updates because even when the notebook is plugged directly into the router it will not connect to the internet. I can just about get onto my neighbours WiFi network, but it is very poor strength and cuts out, so can't really use that. I know the hardware in the computer is fine because the Ubuntu partition works.

I have over 50 virtual networking adapters in device manager, I have posted this question in many forums, and still cannot get rid of these pesky unused extra adapters. I know they have been created by using Virtualbox, and by creating many virtual machines and updating virtualbox. Unfortunately, I have tried uninstalling virtualbox and the drivers all remain in devicemanager. DeviceMgmt also does not allow me to uninstall or delete the adapters, (When I do they just stay there, even after rebooting.)I most likely have to go into the registry and delete them, but they are in so many different places there, I need to know the correct place to delete them. I have a bet that this is the forum where I will get the answer for this even though I have posted in virtualbox forums, technet, MSDN, superuser, serverfault, and stackoverflow.

When I open a Windows Explorer window, on the left column there are the usual Favorites, Libraries, Computer and finally Network. Click on network and after what appears to be a brief scan, it will show a nice list of all the computers connected along with Media Devices.
But sometimes, some of the other computers drop off. I seem to notice this after mine wakes from sleep mode (and perhaps some of the other computers have been off and on. It doesn't refresh the network list. Mine shows up, but nothing else.
If I reboot, everything shows up again. But I don't want to do that all the time. Is there a way (command) that will refresh the list manually?

Some observations:
- I have two QNAP NAS servers, which put the drives after 30 mins idle in sleep mode.
- Windows 7 network discovery sees the two NAS servers all the time.
- When you make drive mappings to shares on the NAS servers, (it seems) at random times Explorer hangs (goes into stall) when trying to browse/access files or directories. Only a reboot helps.
- I'm accessing the drives via regular SMB, no HomeGroup, no AD etc.
- When you map the drives initiallially it asks for a password. Storing that account info into the credentials manager doesn't help.
- I tried to open ports 137-139 and 445 in the firewall, but that doesn't help.
My theory is that Windows breaks by default the connection with the NAS after 15 mins of idling. That's standard behaviour. What puzzles me is that Visita didn't have this issue and Windows 7 has.
Do more people have issues with SMB shares ?

The copy/paste process between a local drive and a network share routinely locks up at partial completion. The completion percentage varies but is typically more than 10%. Usually the copied folders or files are relatively large (more than 1G, sometimes more than 20G).

I'm having difficulty trying to get my new Windows 7 pc set up to share files across my existing home (wired) network which consists of 1 desktop pc running WinXP and 1 laptop running WinXP.I want the 'C' drive on each of the 3 computers to be shared. I've had the 2 Windows XP computers set up and working like this for several years without a problem but I can't seem to get the 'C' drive on the Windows 7 computer to do the same. All 3 computers have the same workgroup name and none of them require passwords to log on to Windows. There are no problems with the firewalls on any of the machines. On the Windows 7 PC when I right click on the 'C' drive and select the 'Sharing' tab, I have set this up to be shared and when I click on the 'Advanced Sharing' button there is a tick in the 'Share this folder' box, the 'Share name' is 'C'. If I then click on the 'Permissions' button, this shows a 'Group or user name' 'Everyone' and this group has Full Control, Change and Read boxes ticked. As far as I can see there is nothing more I can do.
However from my Windows XP computer, when I go to My Network Places and double click on the icon for the Windows 7 'C' drive, I get the message "\Computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found"I've subsequently set up a sub folder (of the Windows 7 'C' drive) for sharing by right clicking on the folder, choosing 'Share with' and then selecting 'Specific people'. I then set up a group called 'Everyone' with read/write permissions. Now I can navigate to this folder from my 2 WinXP computers.

My rig uses a Centrino Advanced-N 6230 wireless mini half-card. It reports the correct name except within the wireless network list. Instead of 6230 it reports 6320. I searched the registry to see if I could find the error, but nothing found. It's only a nuisance, and a minor one at that.

This sounds really noobie of me but is it possible to improve local network transfer speed by adding a 2nd network card. I was planning to connect one exclusively for lan transfers and another one hooked to a separate wireless router.
Right now only a maximum of 3 users can stream SD videos off the PC before it gets a little choppy.
The pc in question runs on windows 7 and it's board has built in gigabit, I happen to have a spare gigabit card.

Home network with Wifi and ethernet. Using 3x Notebooks and 3x workstations. One of the workstations (W7 ultimate) keeps changing between Public and Home. When this happens, the internet connection dies. I cannot see other workstations either when on public network. Workstation using wifi. Does the same on cable. When it changes to Public, it disconnects from the internet and I cannot get to the router even though it has the workstation has an IP(DHCP or static). Default gateway and subnet is correct. TCP v4 is being used and nothing else is enabled.
Why is this happening?
- I have tried DHCP as well as Static addresses
- Reconfigured NIC(Netgear WG311T), uninstalled and reinstalled it.
- Removed Wifi connection and re-added it.
- Changed auth type, encryption type and keys to connection
Have I covered everything? The only thing different is that I installed a new router - Duo Plus 300wr. It cannot be the router because all the other notebooks connect to it wireless and so does my iPad, Android device and tablet...so it rules that out?

This is not a small network, one of the biggest network.i have doubt on individual users on domain. before 2 months we had department wise users mean, for example Accounts@domainname.local. But after we created the individual users like john@domainname.local to all users. this is i believe the cause of problem. When we acess the server via the software it freezed for 5 seconds and then repeat to normal state. And after some time it hangs for 2 minutes.
