The Network Drive volumes do not show up in Windows Explorer using Windows 7. The network drives appear with the assigned drive letter followed by Network Drive, for example, (Q Network Drive I've checked and the volumes are labeled correctly on the servers. It would come in useful if I particularly liked a photo currently being displayed and wanted to locate it so that I could maybe print it out. I was able to do this with my screensaver in XP.
I'm putting together a slide show of 3D images that I want to show on my TV next week when we have company.I would like the images to stay on the screen a little longer without having to actually create a slide show in some special application like Premiere.
The Slide Show function in Explorer works great if I can control the timing.
Is there a way I can have the full file names displayed with the desktop icons without having to click on the icon?

The file name formats are actually 'The Film.avi' or 'The TV Show SXXEYY.mp4' (where XX is the Series andY Y is the Epesode as a double digit numbers). If there is anyway to do this or a 3rd party program that will work with network sharing (my files are not on the local machine but a file server running windows 7).
My desktop connects to my router via a netgear N300 wirelss USB adaptor. Also connected to my router is my media server PC which has a shared network drive. On bootup My desktop looks for the mapped network drive before it loads the USB. So it always shows the network drive as being unavailable. This is soon sorted by double clicking on the network drive icon. Is there a workaround so that the PC looks for the network drive after loading the USB network has been established?

If i open Eindows Explorer and open a network drive ( I: ), then the Windows Explorer open's it, but after a few seconds later, it jumps back to the main page. It is very annoying. They still turn up occasionally in Explorer Resources, but when I try to delete them again, I am told that they cannot be found, so they actually have been deleted. Is there any way to get rid of these entries completely? I cannot use standard removal tools since I cannot eliminate a file that 'no longer exists' (!) on the computer.

For example, if I clicked the volume icon it would have have a volume control for the Speakers (rear audio out), the headphones (front audio out), and the HDMI audio that my GTX460 sends. Now, I can only get one of them to show at a time. What's going on?

The NAS drive reports an NTFS partition.The problem I've just discovered: when copying files to the NAS drive, if a filename contains certain characters, such as curly quotes, angle quotes, bullet characters, subscript characters, em-dash etc., only the short 8.3 filename gets copied to the NAS drive.(I would not sweat it if the troublesome characters just got dropped, but what happens is that meaningful filenames are replaced with gibberish as above.)I use the NAS drive as a backup/mirror location for the local drives, so this is a big issue, since my backups are now severely clobbered. I discovered the problem while testing my backup regime, then found out the filename change occurs no matter how the files are copied - whether it's the backup application, a file manager or just Windows Explorer.And (of course) the problem did not occur when I was running XP, and nothing on the NAS drive changed since I installed 7 a week ago. Files that were previously copied onto the NAS drive (under XP) still show up fine, which tells me that 7 is actively interfering with the copy operations.

After that i tried to rename the drives(partitions) in 'My Computer' the first one ie,C: got renamed but the others r not. When i right clicking the a drive suppose D: & click to rename the edit cursor comes but after clicking OK it stays as 'LOCAL DISK D', but earlier when i installed this same version there was no such problem.

EDIT: One info i forgot to write here ie,I have A dual boot..i have XP installed in a other partition ie,C:..When i rename any partition while logged in win7 it not get renamed as i said but after that if i restart & log in XP then that specific partition which i renamed i win7 shows in XP..Eg:Suppose i renamed the C: as Master in Win7...it stays as local disk as in the sc above...but after that when log in Xp the C: shows as Master...&& in Xp everything is normal..

For some reason, all of the Chinese characters appear as normal boxes...Here's the interesting part, it ONLY happens in explorer... View 5 Replies View RelatedI have windows 7 home premium 32bit on a pretty fast AMD phenom II x4 with 4gb ram. The problem I ahve is with windows explorer. When I click on a drive, it takes about 5 seconds before it will show me the folders. Then when I click on a folder, I have to wait as a little hourglass-type slider goes across the top of the screen before it will show the contents. This can take anywhere from 2-15 seconds. I don't remember any other windows OS doing this.Is there something I can change to help speed this up? Not sure that it matters, but I checked defrag and most of my drives are less than 5% fragmented - the most being 15%.

I have a home network with 2 laptops and 1 desktop. The desktop I use as a "file server" in that all work done on the laptops is stored to the desktop. The desktop computer name is HAL. One laptop is fine and sees the network. The other just stopped seeing it; rebooted the laptop; rebooted HAL; did a number of refreshes without any luck. I opened EXCEL and found a worksheet that was listed that I knew was saved on HAL. Was able to open the file and when I tried the SAVE AS I could navigate through all of HAL just as normal. Went to Windows Explorer and still no HAL listed as a COMPUTER on the NETWORK. I have a internet connection so I know I am making it to the router at least. And when I check NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER it shows an active home network. The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 Build 7601.
