I have a folder filled with photos and they are all titled in different languages. For some reason, all of the Chinese characters appear as normal boxes...Here's the interesting part, it ONLY happens in explorer... I can see all Asian characters fine in my web browsers, but when I copy them over to name a file or folder, they turn into boxes.
View 1 RepliesMy computer doesn't show asian characters...including languages like Hindi, Arabic, Chinese(all), Japanese, Korean, Gujarati etc....I have many files in these languages but because of problem it shows only boxes in file names....There is no problem in displaying characters in browsers and word processors...Sometimes it shows all characters correctly but sometimes it doesn't. After reboot it shows them correctly, but not every time.
View 8 Replies View RelatedUsually, I can see Asian characters (specifically Chinese and Japanese) perfectly fine, but since the last time I restarted my computer none of them are showing up. They don't show in foobar2000 (a music player) either, unless I switch the font to Meiryo (a Chinese font). They used to show up with no problem.
They still show up in Chrome.

I'm putting together a slide show of 3D images that I want to show on my TV next week when we have company.I would like the images to stay on the screen a little longer without having to actually create a slide show in some special application like Premiere.
The Slide Show function in Explorer works great if I can control the timing.
Have upgraded to win 7 home from vista on a laptop. I copied the old vista installation to an external hard drive, with a linux pen drive so was wonder if there was a way to do a transfer from the external hard drive to the new windows install

When we open our storage HD for media (flicks and TV) and other folders with files and or other folders inside the File FOLDER. the command bar shows a column for size, length, date, etc but it shows no information. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have windows 7 home premium 32bit on a pretty fast AMD phenom II x4 with 4gb ram. The problem I ahve is with windows explorer. When I click on a drive, it takes about 5 seconds before it will show me the folders. Then when I click on a folder, I have to wait as a little hourglass-type slider goes across the top of the screen before it will show the contents. This can take anywhere from 2-15 seconds. I don't remember any other windows OS doing this.Is there something I can change to help speed this up? Not sure that it matters, but I checked defrag and most of my drives are less than 5% fragmented - the most being 15%.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a user with a PP presentation that shows Asian characters for the bullets. I changed them using the Bullets and Numbering menu.
However, we kept two copies of the PP presentation (this is a default company profile PP template)...and when the presentation is viewed under XP the Asian characters appear as normal bullets...but under Windows 7x64 they remain Asian.
Has anyone seen this before? Is there something we may have done in the original template that is making it different under each OS?
I cannot get the thumbnails coming up in explorer on win7 sp1 professional.I have all the .psd, jpeg, .bmp, .cr2, raw and everything else working but not the .PDF.I have tried everything, uninstalled, reinstalled, foxt pdf, x-change pdf and all sorts of thumbnail tweaks you name it, deleted acrobat reg entries etc etc.......I tried the fix created by the pretenciousname person who made a proggy to fix the issue, didnt work.

Language packs were available in the home version of Vista, for instance, so why would I, as a consumer, think that they wouldn't be in W Professional? View 1 Replies View RelatedI have three computers: one Windows 7 x64, one Windows 7 x86, and XP SP3 on an Asus Eee 1005HA. The Win 7 x86 machine can see all the computers and shares. The XP machine can see all the computers and shares. The Win 7 x64 machine can see the other Win 7 machine but not the XP machine (the XP machine doesn't show up in Windows Explorer). The XP machine can browse the shares on the Win 7 machine.
Any idea why the Win 7 x64 machine can't see the XP machine? Thanks.
P.S. Both Windows 7 machines are running 7100, and all are connecting to each other over a gigabit switch.
I have plenty of images on my computer and always used to see thumbnails; suddenly I only see a placeholder. I have tried Explorer - Organise - Folder and Search Options - View etc.; I also tried Control Panel - System - Advanced System Settings - Performance, but none of those two options works...

It's really annoying because I can't see what the song names are in iTunes and some of my folders in Chinese are just blocks. I've already tried installing the language packs but that didn't help. I've also asked this on Microsoft's forum but they didn't help much either. I can see the fonts clearly on webpages and I can type in Chinese perfectly but I can't see the characters in places like folder names, file names, etc. I currently run Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Until the PC goes into sleep mode or is rebooted the problem is non-existent. no error messages are displayed and apparently, its not shown on the task manager's PC usage... also virus and spyware scans have shown nothing. If more than 10 explorer windows are open, it shows a list of the complete path to each folder. I think it is because I recently installed and uninstalled winamp. (thats the only thing I can think of) I cant do system restore because I had it disabled. I've tried reseting the search index, reseting folder options, going under performance and checking the settings there, nothing has changed. I really dont want to have to wipe and reinstall...
Here is a picture if you dont get what Im saying, as you can see in the folders it still displays the album art of the files but the actual mp3 files dont show it. The album art works fine in WMP.

I am running Windows 7 and have been using Asian fonts in the titles of files for over a year with no problems. Something in the latest service pack update (which automatically updated this week) turned these all to boxes. (The Asian fonts still worked just fine in documents and on the internet, but not on file/folder names on my computer desktop and libraries.) I backed out of the entire update and everything is fine again. How do I identify which of the multitude of updates is causing the problem so that I can ditch just that portion?
