Peek Explorer Window - Show List Instead Of Thumbnail?
Apr 25, 2011
When I peek at an explorer window, if less than 10 explorer windows are open then it shows a thumbnail of each folder. If more than 10 explorer windows are open, it shows a list of the complete path to each folder. I find the list much more useful. Is there a setting to change the behavior to always show the list of paths?
I have two situations that I am unable to explain. My Windows Peek function somehow became disabled. I right-clicked the tiny window on the lower right corner of my screen and 'Peek at Desktop' is checked and shadowed. Also, on the advanced system settings, the box to adjust for best appearance is checked. What can I do to get this peek function back? Also, I am missing the volume and power icons in the notification area. But something very strange has happened. When I look at the window to customize the notification icons, some of the icons do not correspond to their associated descriptions.
i have a problem with my "aero peek show desktop" at the right side of the task bar. it is double size, i read in a few forums about this case with installing tablets. i installed my wacom tablet a few days ago,so i suppose its because of this.
pendrive and card reader thumbnail doesnt show in my computer, even i went to compmgmt disk management setting to change the drive path, its show same problem.
I only learnt about this a couple of weeks ago!If you want to make the Aero Peek button at the far right of your Taskbar into a plain and simple Show Desktop button:Simply right-click the Aero Peek button and un-check the "Peek at desktop" option. Et Voila!! That's it!
I used to be able to view the cursor thumbnails like normal. But recently, the cursor thumbnail wouldn't show. I've attached a screenshot of it. I am still able to change my cursor, and it works fine, it's just, in the windows explorer the thumbnail of the cursor shows a Photoshop icon. Only the .cur file is affected, the .ani is not.
I'm looking for a way to enlarge the thumbnail preview in Explorer. A person is scanning in PDF documents in large amounts and then using the thumbnail preview wants to be able to rename them from the default scanner assigned name. The current thumbnail size isn't big enough to see enough detail to rename the file without opening the document.
I'm putting together a slide show of 3D images that I want to show on my TV next week when we have company.I would like the images to stay on the screen a little longer without having to actually create a slide show in some special application like Premiere. The Slide Show function in Explorer works great if I can control the timing.
I know, in the Start Menu/taskbar customization area, there's a place to set how many items show in the jump list....my question is, why does the jump list stop taking new items after about 35? (Even though my "number of recent items to display in jump lists" is set to 60?) I know it's probably a PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair)
I have file extension .sfk that I'd like to have the files hidden by default. I can manually hide each file, but that'd take forever. I'd like it to be hidden by the "Don't show hidden files, folders, or drives" option. I'm completely blanking on this whole thing so I'm not even able to word it properly to search
After setting up a new install of Windows 7 Professional 64bit on a Samsung laptop (previously had home premium installed). I am having these issues that I am not sure of how to resolve:
1) when clicking on the start button the programs screen pops open but NO recent programs or pinned programs show up in the list without going to ALL Programs.
2) Laptop monitor and 20" LCD Desktop monitor both are running and the neither one will go above 1366 x 768 resolution setting. I have reinstall the latest Nvidia Gforce drivers with no change.
I have previously installed Window security essential.I realized today that my scheduled scan was not running.I tried opening the program but an alert with error code 0x8007064e appeared.I tried deleting the program but 'Microsoft window essential' was not on the list of 'programs and features'.I tried installing but error appeared telling me that my computer already has the program.I am using 64bit operating system?
My computer does not show contents of windows, diaglog boxes when I drag them. Look like this figure: Then I verify the visual effects settings in Performance Options box (System Properties > Advanced system settings > tab Advanced > click Settings under Performance > tab Visual Effects):Note that I have the option "Show window contents while dragging" checked all the time by selecting "Adjust for best appearance" To let it show the contents, I have to do these:
1. Uncheck "Show window contents while dragging". Click Apply.
2. Select "Adjust for best appearance" again (or check "Show window contents while dragging" again) then click Apply.
when I restart my computer, or shutdown and then start it again, the problem is still: it does not show the contents of dialog boxes or windows when I drag them although the option "Show window contents while dragging" is checked.
I have been having problems with my computer not showing the windows contents while dragging. About once every 2 weeks, I will turn on my computer and that function will be disabled. So what I would do is go to Computer Properties -> Advanced System Settings -> Performance Settings, and then check the "Show window contents while dragging checkbox.
Today however, in the last 2 hours, the function has just disabled itself 3 times already. Everytime, I go through the same process to turn it on and it just won't stick for more than an hour.
In Windows XP, copied files appeared at the end of the window, so that just scrolling to the bottom (e.g. by pressing the End button) made it very simple to locate them. In Windows 7 the new files (and folders) are sorted immediately, which means that in a folder with lots of files I have to go hunting for the new stuff. Is there any way to revert to the Windows XP behavior?
I am having a small problem with my explorer jumplisits. I haven't really used them before but just decided to start using them and I love them. The only problem is when the last explorer window closes all of the pinned folders are gone. I found a thread on here and it had a link to a microsoft update download but the genunine windows tool won't work, it says its outdated but I can't find a new version. So my question is does anybody have any other advice an how I can fix this problem. After I reboot I wont see any recent flies either. I really like this function but it is disappointing that I can't use it.
This has been a pet peeve of mine on Win7 ever since I upgraded months ago.
I'm real big on using Windows Explorer to navigate around my drives, looking at files, photos, movies, whatever. There are two things that the folder list, on the left side of the screen, does differently from it's XP predecessor that bug me:
1) It doesn't auto-expand a folder when I click on it. I have to double-click. Years upon years of doing things one way, and they suddenly change it.
2) This is the one I'm posting about... As I'm browsing down the list on the left, burrowing into sub-folder after sub-folder using the arrows.. right as I'm about to click on a folder that I want to view.. Suddenly the list will SNAP back to the top of the page as if it still thinks I want to be looking at whatever other folder I used to be in (usually the default Libraries folder). So I'll sit there and flip my mouse wheel a few times to get back to where I was.. and it'll SNAP BACK TO THE TOP AGAIN. It also happens when I've selected a particular folder, but I'm trying to navigate to one of the many sub-folders. It'll SNAP back up without warning, putting the root folder that I've selected at the very bottom of the screen, forcing me to scroll down. Again. Also happens when I'm trying to use Explorer to open a file from inside of a program.. File>Open, search, scroll, SNAP, scroll, SNAP, scroll, STOP IT, scroll, there it is. Frankly, it's pissing me off.
If there's one thing that bugs me the most about computers these days, it's when they try to do something "helpful" that I honestly don't want it to do. I know better than Windows what I'm trying to do when I'm using this computer. I am not the AOL-using end user that doesn't know what he's doing.. Technical Support? Yeah, been there, done that.. now I train tech support.. believe me, I know what I'm doing.
Is there some option somewhere to tell Windows to leave Explorer the hell alone when I'm browsing my drives? Get it to play the way I want it to play?
When I open a Windows Explorer window, on the left column there are the usual Favorites, Libraries, Computer and finally Network. Click on network and after what appears to be a brief scan, it will show a nice list of all the computers connected along with Media Devices.
But sometimes, some of the other computers drop off. I seem to notice this after mine wakes from sleep mode (and perhaps some of the other computers have been off and on. It doesn't refresh the network list. Mine shows up, but nothing else.
If I reboot, everything shows up again. But I don't want to do that all the time. Is there a way (command) that will refresh the list manually?
I use Legacy to record our family genealogy. If, using Legacy I use "Open File" it lists the 5 application files I have available. However, using Explorer it lists just 1 of these 5 files. When I compare the properties of the file I can access with Explorer with one of those by access of Legacy, I notice that all settings are the same with the exception of ttributes on the Details tab: the former shows and the latter Question: Is this the problem? What does it mean? Is it important to have
Whenever I right click on the Windows Explorer superbar icon I only get options to open Windows Explorer or unpin it from the superbar. Options to allow recent items to be displayed in taskbar is still checked and the animation for dragging stuff to the superbar still shows the "Pin to Windows Explorer" option. Restart = no change, and the option works correctly for other users on the same machine.
i am using windows 7 ultimate 64 bit and it has run well for 1.5 years. a day ago however my wireless network icon disappeared from my system tray. you can see what my problem is here on Internet:
When I open up the Web from any source, including shortcuts, sometimes it comes up in a reduced size, sometimes in a full size, and I have to click on Maximize / Minimize to get the window to the desirable size. How can I get my Web pages to open up in full or minimized size? Is there any technical steps to set this option?
How do I open a command prompt from an Explorer Window? Of course it must open at the same path without having to type in navigation commands (that's the whole point).
