I have plenty of images on my computer and always used to see thumbnails; suddenly I only see a placeholder. I have tried Explorer - Organise - Folder and Search Options - View etc.; I also tried Control Panel - System - Advanced System Settings - Performance, but none of those two options works...
I'm never the one to ask, but I don't know what happened. I tried looking online but I couldn't find any solutions. It seems like all my icons (including folders) are not showing up in windows explorer, taskbar, or the desktop anymore. This isn't too big a problem, but navigating through my picture library is very complicated without thumbnails. My PC is pretty heavily customized. I also cannot open the start menu from the taskbar anymore. I click the startorb and nothing appears. Screenshots
Also, while I was uploaded the three screenshots to imgur, the icons showed up on the popup to windows explorer.
I cannot get the thumbnails coming up in explorer on win7 sp1 professional.I have all the .psd, jpeg, .bmp, .cr2, raw and everything else working but not the .PDF.I have tried everything, uninstalled, reinstalled, foxt pdf, x-change pdf and all sorts of thumbnail tweaks you name it, deleted acrobat reg entries etc etc.......I tried the fix created by the pretenciousname person who made a proggy to fix the issue, didnt work.
I have three computers: one Windows 7 x64, one Windows 7 x86, and XP SP3 on an Asus Eee 1005HA. The Win 7 x86 machine can see all the computers and shares. The XP machine can see all the computers and shares. The Win 7 x64 machine can see the other Win 7 machine but not the XP machine (the XP machine doesn't show up in Windows Explorer). The XP machine can browse the shares on the Win 7 machine.
Any idea why the Win 7 x64 machine can't see the XP machine? Thanks.
P.S. Both Windows 7 machines are running 7100, and all are connecting to each other over a gigabit switch.
I'm using Windows 7 just like you all. Ultimate edition, 64-bit. The system is running perfectly without any problems, but I got one issue after two weeks of using Windows 7. The problem is that video preview thumbnails are not showing up. "Show thumbnails instead of icons" in view options is checked.Take a look. On the left side is my HDV camcoder captured files, .mt2 format. But on the right side is my video folder, contains .mp4 and .wmv formats. As you can see .mp4 .wmv thumbnails are missing.
My videos (mpg, avi) no longer show thumbnails. They were OK then they just appear now as icons! It's weird as some of them show thumbnails. How do I get them back?
I for some reason am not able to get a thumbnail view of any of my .cbr & .cbz files anymore. I had to reinstall Windows 7 a few days ago and now no thumbnails show for my comicbook files. Pdf's show fine once I locate them with Adobe Pro. And usually when I locate them with a certain comicbook reader program they show up as thumbnails even when viewing in windows explorer. But not now
can't get my photos to dispaly as thumbnails. they are all there, and will preview and open, but show the windows photo image instead of a small picture
I have windows 7 ultimate and my pictures won't show in thumbnails I don't know why it always worked until two days ago. I thought it will fix itself, but it hasn't what can I do to fix it??? an exaple of what is happening is that my movies and pictures used to show in the folder before you opened it and now it doesn't. My movies only shows the default program that opens the movies the same with my pictures.
I'm running windows 7 and currently I cannot get pictures to show as thumbnails. Have changed the setting in folder options to display file icons on thumbnails but pictures still won't display and I continue to have the icon instead. Have tired system restart.
I've been downloading many Videos and I watch them on WMP (I'm running Windows 7 64Bit) and I have variety of files. But for some reason files like .Mp4 would show thumbnails/an image of the video while my MKV files just show an Icon. I have installed K-Lite codec pack 5.2.0 (64Bit) to enable my WMP to watch several files. Also I have try installing the Divx preview thing (Forgot what's it called) and it does make the Mkv show the thumbnail but it lags incredibly when I play it. Is there any alternate way to make my MKV videos show thumbnails?
The way i connect to my XP network is i open explorer and click on the Network folder icon. Then i wait for the green search bar to do it's thing at the top of the screen and when it detects the XP computer, it will show XP under Network and i can access it.Well it stopped. No matter how many times I clicked on Network the green search bar only searched once after a reboot and it would not find the XP drive. After searching I found that you could open the drive by typing in the start menu's search bar, \NAME. This worked fine, so I am able to access the drive but why don't it work with the Network folder in Explorer anymore? After I open the xp drive this way, it will then magically pop up under the Network folder but not before. Also is there a way to create a shortcut to this drive? I don't see that option by right clicking on it.
The other day i had a friend delete some programs from my Asus laptop on startup and running processes to make my computer boot up faster. I think we did something that makes the fn key not work anymore. how to restore this functionality?
I am having some problems with my ctrl key. I cant ctrl copy or paste, whenever I try to ctrl copy a c appears and when I try ctrl+v a v just appears, as if I was just pressing the letter, it seems its stuck by hardware or something coz in the keyboard its fine.
I'm putting together a slide show of 3D images that I want to show on my TV next week when we have company.I would like the images to stay on the screen a little longer without having to actually create a slide show in some special application like Premiere. The Slide Show function in Explorer works great if I can control the timing.
I had my laptop running last night and I woke up this morning and my computer was frozen. It wasn't the "blue screen of death" as many mention as it was simply frozen but when I turned it back on (and continue to turn it back on) it gets stuck on "Starting Windows" without even proceeding to the Windows log-in screen. Next, when I launch a "system repair" it goes through the process but freezes in the blue "system repair" screen without even showing anything..just the blue background sunshine screen and is just stuck there...under "Advanced Boot Options" the "Last Known Good Configuration" gives me no luck either...I then try "Safe Mode" and under "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" it freezes while "Loading Windows Files" and the last file/driver it shows is windowssystem32DRIVERSAtiPcie.sys
I don't know what else to do...I have a Windows 7 64-bit boot disc but this is my small laptop which doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. I can use my USB drive if necessary but I attempted to do that but maybe there is some special way I must install it on my USB drive?

I've had problems with my wireless printer going "offline" a lot and its one of the most frustrating situations when you go to hit print and theres a 35% chance it will be offline.
Now I tried to "Add a new printer" and for some reason after trying time after time my computer is not discovering my wireless printer any more?
My printer sucessfully pairs up with my router every time I try to go through the wireless setup wizard. I've restarted/unplugged the printer time & time again & also restarted the computer.
how to get my computer to see this printer again & KEEP it online?
The problem appeared in two different laptops (Lenovo and Fujitsu). The bluetooth hardware is not visible in device manager anymore, but unrecognized device appeared. Driver reinstall doesn't help. Driver installation setup says there is no bluetooth hardware. PC Suite is installed , worked fine before.

When I leave my computer on for a bit and walk away, the screen will turn off by itself (this is not standby!!!) and sometimes, the keyboard or mouse seems to have lost its connection to the computer, and will not respond to anything, I have to hit the reset button.
my download dialog box won't appear anymore, instead a thin rectangular white box with yellow trimming pops up, and it will say its going to run/open/ or save something, but it doesn't.
This started suddenly after I turned my desktop pc off before going away for a week. When I came home and turned it back on, it hasn't been "normal" since. When I start my computer, go to my user folder, documents etc., all appears fine. Folders/thumbnails and images within the folder appear as normal. However, if I open (for instance) my "downloads" folder, the folder icons and associated icons are initially displayed as "normal", but I see that the explorer bar (where I see C:/user/downloads, etc) is "computing items" but it never stops. A green "progress bar" SLOWLY moves across that "text window" and then it stays green. As if the pc is having trouble reading what is in the folder.Once that happens, if I back out of the folder and then go back in to it, most of the folder icons/thumbnails/pictures are no longer visible. If I navigate to other folders, it's the same thing; many (but not all) of the folder icons and the thumbnails within are not displayed. Example: in my "user file" the AppData and Tracing folders, the icon is non existant....yet my Contacts, Desktop, Favorites, Documents etc. are shown as standard windows "yellow folders" but not the thumbnails that I have associated with them. Also, the file info (if I highlight a file name) does not appear at the bottom of the explorer window, as it normally would for me.I have run my anti-virus, malwarebytes, which are showing no problems and I have also tried "indexing" but no luck. I do have an external drive that is close to full, but it is disconnected. My C drive is currently 873gb full of 1.35tb. Recovery partition is 1.63gb free of 13.2gb - which I have never "messed with", though I have previously done 2 "reset to factory settings"
Whenever I view a folder which contains .MP4 (H264) video files in large icon view (shows thumbnails), Windows 7's Explorer crashes. Explorer loads for a few seconds, the green progress bar shows up, and then boom!, Explorer crashes. The thumbnails are not shown before crashing.I tried setting Folder options to 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' (disables thumbnails) on the same folder with MP4 (H264) video files and Explorer doesn't crash if the MP4 thumbnails aren't shown. I tried testing in other folders containing other video formats (with 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' set to off) like .AVI/Xvid, without an MP4/H264 file, and Windows Explorer shows the thumbnails fine without crashing.
I have not currently experienced problems with other formats, only MP4/H264. The only media players that I have installed are KMPlayer and VLC Media Player which both do not install external codecs, AFAIK. The only external codec I have installed is CoreAVC, but I have been using CoreAVC for months (KMPlayer+CoreAVC is one of the first things I installed in Windows 7) without any problems (this issue just arose a few days ago).I am using Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit.
Trying to figure out a way to display thumbnails in certain folders (ie: Photos & Videos) and icons in others. Unfortunately it seems this isn't possible, as the only option I've found is to always show thumbnails in all folders or always show icon's.
