Unable To Get On The Internet At All And Wi-Fi Signal Can Never Make It Above Two Bars?
Mar 28, 2012
Okay, so I got a new computer recently and it worked great on my campus' Wi-Fi network for about a week. Then all of a sudden the stability of my connection dropped down to nothing. For the past several days, I have barely been able to get on the Internet at all and my Wi-Fi signal can never make it above two bars. My roommates' computers and my own MacBook and iOS devices have no problems at all. This problem has been driving me crazy because the primary purpose of this new computer is multiplayer gaming, which of course is the one thing it CAN'T do is play online games. Can anyone think of any client-side reason why the Wi-Fi on a brand new computer would just spontaneously combust, or is this just something I need to talk about with the network administration on my campus?
As you may see I am connected to the internet but I cannot see the signal bars on the taskbar.my laptop information:Toshiba Satelite M645 S4070Windows 7 Home Premium. 64-bitI also cannot do a system restore of the check disk error i am seeing.below is an image of the results:[CODE]
My computer is set to not update automatically because once it updates, it won't allow access to internet (wireless or lan). I have to use a restore point to undo everything. My computer hasn't been updated for a year or more do to this problem. It can't find a problem when I run the help program and tells me to get on the internet to solve (won't let me do that in the first place)
when I wire it into a router, there's no internet connection.Tried different ethernet cable, different router port.Still same.Fails when I ping the router (192.168.x.x), but can ping local loop (127.0.0.1)Windows shows the ethernet card as working.Disabled / re-enabled interface. No joy.No obvious mis-configuration in internet options.Wireless is OK.Scanned for viruses (ESET). All cleanStandard Windows Firewall in place. ipconfig/all shows no IP address allocated, no DNS server, no default gateway etc.
For the last 3 months my internet keeps dropping in and out, sometimes for a long period of time. But it always shows full bars in the wireless network connection on our computers. I have been on the phone to the internet company for hours and hours (each time speaking to a different person-so no help there) and they can't figure out what is wrong.
They sent me a new modem which worked for 10 mintues and then was dropping in and out again. The same issue is happening on my roommate's computer too, and I am able to access other wireless networks in other locations too with no trouble. So not an issue with our computers.
which I am going to purchase. Sewell InjectIR, IR over HDMI for Remote Controls - SW-29660, $44.95. This is perfect because I am running a length of 40 hdmi cable. Now I need arecommendation for a remote for windows 7 media center control. My main goal, is to control movies to my bedroom, from my newly built htpc. I have been watching flicks on vlc player, so I need to take control of my pc, as if i were in front of it. So without theheadache/worry over an RF type remote, what is it that I need to accomplish what I am after? Now that I'll be able to extend the IR signal, reliably...would this workAmazon.com:Windows 7 Vista XP Media Center MCE PC Remote Control and Infrared Receiver for Home, Premium and Ultimate Edition: Electronics
I bought a new Toshiba P755 running W7 with Intel i7. I use a NetGear router. My internet keeps dropping off on my new computer but all the others are still online.Once I run troubleshooting it states there is a gateway issue but I am needing to do this every hour or sooner
I am running windows 7 and haven't had any problems connecting wirelesly to our network until today. It says that I am connected with a strong signal but there is no internet access. After I did the troubleshooting I got a message saying the DNS server may be experiencing problems. Not sure where to start to fix this.
On the right hand side of the taskbar I have the icons for battery life, volume, internet connection, etc. When I used to put the mouse over the internet connection it would show me who I was connected too (SSID) , signal quality, and speed.I began having some issues so I had to remove my Netgear connection and then reconnect.Ever since I did this all that shows up now when I put the mouse over it is now only says: Netgear and Internet access. How do I get the information back. It shows up on my desktop, but not my laptop.
I just bought a Netgear WNA3100 wireless usb adapter for my HP Win 7 64 bit laptop. I have been trying for 2 and half days to figure out why my speed is slow, why i don't have a good signal, and/ or if I do have a bit of a signal to my luck, why my signal comes and goes. I don't have internet at home at the moment because I am trying to save up to go to school. I am picking up a public business signal from a block away (which I have asked for permission to use), but I only am receiving not much of a signal with the Netgear usb wireless adapter.
anyway, after charging it up and turning it on, i started to install programmes and other bits and bobs. e.g ituens, flash player. just the usual essentials. i used the laptop to watch videos on Internet, genenral browing such as facebook, so in short, the internet was working fine. just before i went to bed that night i installed avg security (free version) and ran a full scan. when the scan finished, i put the laptop into hibernate, and went to sleep! happy in the knowledge my new gizmo was running smoothly!
just before i woke up i heard the laptop turn off as it had run out of charge. so i plugged it in and charged it up, then turned it on. this is where the problem starts...i connected via wifi however the logo at the bottom right of the screen showed the signal strength meter on empty, with a yellow star covering it. i clicked the icon, and it said, 'not connected, connections are available' and below shows im connected with 5/5 signal strength, but on 'limited access'.
1) there might be a problem with the driver for the local area connection adapter
2)there might be a problem with the driver for the wireless network connection adapter
there are 28 updates, but im unable to update them as i have no internet connection. i also cant connect via the ethernet cable.i cant roll back the drivers as there are no previously installed ones, and i cant update them as i am already up to date.my other laptop (acer aspire 5630 running on vista) works perfectly fine using wifi and the ethernet cable, so i honestly dont know whats wrong. after reading things on my acer about ways to fix the problem i came to the decision to restore the laptop to the time of my first installation which was adobe flash player (which i installed the day before.) i was unable to do a full factory reset as the only options available are to either restore to a backup, or re-install windows (which requires a disc, which i dont have). i also didnt configure a backup as i had only had the laptop a day!
i have a dlink dir 615 wireless N router, a few wireless N network card and adapter,eg tp-link w821 wireless N adapter, and and asus wireless N card..my problem here is that i while using the dlink router,i can only have internet access for WPA/WPA2 TKIP and not WPA/WPA2 AES, both encryption has strong signal. Once I changed to AES encryption, i have no network access, never mind the internet.only when using TKIP that i am able to connect. and the speed is capped at 120mbps.
I run windows 7 enterprise as an administrator and I want to make use of applocker. So I start the local security policy, enable applocker and create the default rules. If all is correct I should not be able to run executables in for example "D:Applicationsquickpar" but unfortunately I can. I even create a rule which explicitly blocks "D:Applicationsquickparquickpar.exe", however I can still run it. I even got the application identity service running, so I don't know what is wrong.
I 've Windows 7 basically extracted files. I have tired to put it on a dvd and burn it, burning process was fairly easy I thought I've a bootable DVD now. Then I tired it in a desktop computer and set to boot from CD.To my disappointment it did not boot from CD. But when when normally I put it in DVD and and run from Desktop it works pretty well but then there is another problem it has no options as when the normally windows DVD has when they are bootable. So installation works it simply replaced the older files with new one and a folder is created for older files. What i want is bootable DVD so I can use it to format and Install fresh copy.
my 50 gb partition has become extended and i am not able to make it logical partion......it is showing that error "there is not enough memory to make the partition" can anyone tell how to de-extend the extended partition to make it unallocated memorry?
I have been having problems with my new computer running Win7 Ultimate and have had to do an upgrade install. Now IE8 and Incredimail are unable to connect to the internet although Norton, Windows, System Mechanic, etc.,can all download updates
I just recently bought a new motherboard (old one died), and didn't realize that it had no IDE port on it for easy Windows 7 re-installation (my only available dvd drive is still IDE). After trying to find a friend with one, I ended up trying to make a bootable thumb drive using the Windows 7 bootable USB drive utility and my father's computer, and every single time I've tried to do it, it gives an error right at the end about bootsect.exe saying it isn't bootable.
Asus P5QL-VM, Intel Core 2 Duo q9300, 4gb (2x2gb) ram, seagate SATA hard drive of some sort, GEForce 9800GTX+ gpu.
Recently, a "Limited Access" signal has been coming up beside my internet access signal, even though it's got full access and the wireless connection is fine .
So, after going through every trick in the book, I was unable to make browsing happen on a 64bit Windows 7 (any and every browser would randomly hang the system completely), so my only option was to switch to 32bit.The first installation failed and got stuck in a black screen with a frozen cursor. After a restart the installer told me I could continue the installation after a reset, so I did that, only to be greeted with the same message. This happened over and over a few times, so I figured it's not going to work and I'll have to make a fresh install. Then something mysterious happens and I'm not yet sure what exactly happened. In any case, the end result was that I still had some of my 64bit installation remaining including some files I downloaded while trying to make it work in addition to my 32bit installation on my other drive (which I was not planning on formatting). The only explanation I can come up with is that I somehow managed to format the wrong drive, not once, but twice.
And this is where my current problem begins. I'd very much like to format the drive with the 64bit stuff, but Windows won't let me. I've tried doing it from the command prompt but it says "Access Denied as you do not have sufficient privileges. You have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode." I'm the system admin! How can I not have sufficient privileges? And what is "elevated mode"? Ok, so on we go to the Disc Manager. This time I'm greeted with "Windows cannot format the system partition on this disk.".Actually, now that I think about it, I suppose booting from the CD might do the trick. Still, for some reason the installer takes its time starting (was much faster in for the 64bit version) and I'm getting tired of playing with the boot order, anyway. So, I'm wondering if there is any way to format a disc with system files from another Windows installation without going through the CD boot.
I'm trying to move a file from my desktop to a folder on my Hard Drive (Internal) but everytime i attempt to do this it says, "Window's Can't Create a Shortcut here, do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?". This have never happened to me before and frankly I'm a little perplexed at why this is happening.
I just purchased a new Windows 7 computer. For some unknown reason my internet screen when I am reading a newspaper online is blue. When I had Windows XP my screen was black. How can I make my internet screen black in this situation

I an unable to make my floppy drive work on my new computer with windows 7 64 bit. I know there is a card made in England named Catweasel that is supposed to do the job, but they are hard to come by.
History only saves visits to files etc. on the computer, not anything visited on the web. I've tried to find the answer in older posts but all I found was this.
