I have attempted to download 7zip from CNet, but my computer warns me that it could damage my computer. I tried to verify the signature but I was unable to follow the directions. My option is to run the program without verification. I'm reluctant to do that unless a tech can assure me that its' reasonably safe.
I have a PC that froze up during use. No new software has been added, with the exception of Critical updates released over the past month. After a hard reboot, the PC would freeze up during the Windows boot screen - and in safe mode, it freezes while loading MUP.SYS.
here is what I've tried so far, each failing to resolve my issue:
* Clear BIOS by removing CMOS battery * Performing a CHKDSK of the system drive. - no issues found after running for 1.5 hours * Moved the one memory module to the other available slot. * fitted different HDD preloaded with fresh XP SP3 from a working PC
I even tried to do a fresh install, it picks up the disc and starts to download the files then the Windows logon screen appears again and it freezes up again I left it for 2 hours last night and it just sat there!
would it be safe to delete every file in my downloads folder because isnt the information still in my x86. when something has a setup and you click next next next install isnt it then in your x86? but for other files like music that are downloaded and then just played, are they ever stored anywhere else?
with the creation of a batch file which when run from normal mode it should take me to Safe mode with networking.considering the OS to be Xp and above, and with the next restart it should stay normal .
I'm using Windows 7 x64 SP1 Pro on a HP Compaq notebook. Since I installed Windows and all those HP apps (some of them apparently required to access BIOS) I got this shortcut on desktop and I cannot remove it. Deleting it manually does not work and the shortcut does not appear in User/Desktop or Public/Desktop folders. Right clicking it does not show the usual menu but this so I cannot get the location of the file. Also, the Remove Icon option does nothing not even in Safe Mode. How to get rid of this? Some suggested to reinstall the app however this also does not work.
I am trying to run the "character map" program that is a standard part of Windows. I get an error..."C:windowssystem32GetUName.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error". Is there a safe place to download a new copy of the dll and once downloaded, how do I replace the copy that is there? The system does not let me (I'm an administrator) even change the name, let alone try to move the file elsewhere or delete it. Is there a way to get the file from my original DVD? When I put the DVD in, it just wants to do an install of the system and I certainly don't want to do that, just a single file.
blue screen hard drive 0x0000007b 0xf9e4d528,0xc0000034,0x00000000,ox00000000 can not load safe mode what am i to do wont re store just the blue screen

I just have a problem with my laptop. When I download a file from the Internet using Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, it appears buttons for me to Open or Save that file but when I click "Save", it automatically returns back to the webpage that I am opening and nothing is downloading. I am using Internet Explorer 7.
When I download a zip file, it starts downloading and then it comes to a standstill (freeze)only ending up with a partial download and I can't seem to download the full zip file.I have defragmented my hard drive, I've cleaned the cache, I've updated java to no avail.
Whenever I downloaded a file in WinXP, a window would come up asking me where I wanted to save the file to. In Windows 7 HP, it just seems to automatically download to the current "users" Download file. How do I configure Windows 7 to work like XP?
How do you continue to download on a part file? Sometimes I download a file, then it gets say halfway, and my connection fails or something . Now when I go back online to finish downloading the file, it starts downloading it from scratch-How can I continue downloading on the original part file that got halfway or whatever?
while downloading .avi file from internet, the connetcion got disconnected and the download could not be completed. How to locate that incomplete file in my computer and also is it possible to download the file from where it was disconnected?
i just about to test my pc with x64 version of Windows 7 but i don't have the installation disc. after googling on the net, i found some acticle that there's a link to download ISO installation file for various version of windows 7 from some site [URL]. this installation ISO not a crack version and not come with product key. it will required user to provide their own product key during installation and activate it. my intention is to test my pc with x64 version of windows to see any issue and if ok, then will considure to buy the product key later. the question is, is that legal to download that iso file from that site? is there any other site that can provide legal downloading of iso win 7 file?
I've just made the jump back from Mac to PC . I used to use Mac's automater to download an e- version of my free to distribute daily newspaper, start my mail program, attach the file to an email and send it to my Kindle. It was all quite easy to set up. I'm looking for a way of doing this in Windows 7 but so far I'm not getting many hits on Google. Task Scheduler doesn't seem quite as flexible. Could anyone help me with how I do this
I bought a windows 7 premium download version from the online store. Now I have to burn the ISO file onto a dvd. But here is the problem... I am on the download page and there are 2 files there.. one is the ISO file and then there is the bootsect.exe
May have a virus or had a virus due to a possible lapse of McAfee virus scan. Have a Dell (dec 2009 Desktop) with a Window 7 OS and Office 2007 Software. I did a restore to an earlier date hoping to restore settings but it didn't change.resently in my document folder are a first level of folders, when I pass my mouse over the folder it indicates that there empty, but I bought an external drive and when i moved the folders to the drive and read the drive / viewed the folders on another one of my computers they are complete and contents are visible. If I open excel or word and open a recent document it opens and if I look at the properties it points to the folders that otherwise show to be empty. Might be a separate problem but the same cause of the problem, when i view my yahoo mail and click a document for download, I select document download and I see nothing after that.
My company recently made Office 2013 Pro Plus available to its employees through the Home Use Program --so I went on line and purchased a license. When I did this for Office 2010 and got the email from MS, their link was to a download of an ISO file from which I was then able to burn a DVD.
But this time, the download is an executable and the name (Setup.x86.en-US_ProPlusRetail_[product key]_act_1.exe) implies that it is an installer. I really don't want to install it right now; instead, I want to download it and burn a DVD -- and install it later. What the installer program actually does?
After attempting to start my Laptop in Safe Mode, it loaded drivers normally only to crash a few seconds later. A prompt message appears but is impossible to read because Windows immediately reboots upon showing the prompt.
I have Windows 7 and when attempting to download a .CSV file, I get the following:
"c:usersappdatalocalmicrosoftwindows temporary internet files.IE5WFRX915B1000_BronzeLeads_851CSV is not a valid Win32 application."
This is supposed to open in an Excel file. I can open it up on another PC, however. And I can also open up other Excel files on my PC except for this one.
