View 5 RepliesI left my computer - which is an Acer Aspire One, that I purchased, refurbished, a few months ago from a local dealer and came preloaded with Windows Starter 7 - closed, but without turning it off, for a few hours while I ran out to a cafe with a friend (which I've done hundreds of times before. But, when I came back, it was frozen on the firefox tab I had open when I left. So, I figured, I'll just turn it off with the power button and turn it back on. When I did this, Windows stalled out while opening and wasn't going anywhere, and then the screen went black and it went back to the Acer splash screen and told me that Windows had failed to start and suggested I run Startup Repair. So I did, and, after about 5 minutes, it went to a blue screen with a white hummingbird and some curly bits behind it, and a slightly distorted cursor that moves on the screen when I use my keypad and hasn't moved since. That was about 20 minutes ago. I'm really stressing out, because I don't know what to do, and there are files on there that I need for work.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell notebook wiht Windows 7 64-bit that is getting a BSOD (0xF4) and I'm fairly certain is was caused by a rootkit, although I'm not 100% certain. One debugger shows wininit.exe as the culprit and another shows the kernel itself. At any rate, the system will not boot. It gets to where the login dialog is about to show and gets the BSOD. It will not boot in safemode either.Anyway, I've tested the hard drive and memory and I'm fairly certain that it is corrupted and/or rootkit files that is the problem. So I've booted to a Windows 7 repair disk and ran SFC and it tells me that files are corrupted and it can't fix them.Normally I would check the CBS.log file to see what's up, but I'm not sure where the log file is when running SFC from the repair disk. I've searched the "X" drive and the "C" drive, but there's no log files.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend's Dell Mini 9 netbook decided to start acting up recently. She turned it on, and it decided to run startup repair. The repair always fails for no apparent reason, and the computer shuts itself down. I tried running a startup repair from a Windows 7 repair disc. The repair from the disc claimed that it fixed issues, and yet when I started the computer up again it ran startup repair again. Its stuck in a cycle I cannot get past. I tried running system restore from the repair disc, but it always fails as soon as its finalized. asically, what the heck is wrong? I unfortunately have little software experience, the majority of what I know is hardware related.
I just ran startup repair from the disc again and read the error details. It says that the root cause is "startup repair has tried several times but still cannot determine the cause of the problem." It still says the errors were fixed. But after yet another boot-up, the repair still automatically runs and fails.etails of the failure:Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically.[CODE]
I have an issue which I need resolved. My hard drive had about 5 different partitions, one for Win7 x86, Win7 x64, Misc, Encrypted Data and Virtual Machines. The Encrypted Data partition was secured with BitLocker - The OS-partitions was _not_ secured with BitLocker. Now what happened was that I had to run the startup repair utility on my Win7 x64 installation and this completely messed up things for me. I have lost the Encrypted Data and Virtual Machine-partition.
I do not care about the VMs, but the Data contains vital information which I have not backed up yet. On top of losing the two partitions, a new partition called HP_tools re-appeared. This partition was removed when I scratched the OEM-installation approx. a year ago. I urgently need to recover this Data-partition. I do have unallocated space (between other partitions) on my hard drive, but none at the exact size of my encrypted partition.
I am having a nightmare with my Dell Latitude E4300 laptop. At the moment it runs a continuous loop of start up repair and will not allow me to even attempt to get into Windows 7 until this has been done. When it runs the test it stops, giving the error message no OS files found on disk. Everytime I restart this process just continues. It is a work laptop, so I do not have and windows recovery disks. To make matters even worse, before the startup repair loop the laptop wouldnt even let me into the Windows system, even in safe mode. After attempting to get into safe mode it would stop at the driver classpnp.sys. Further tests would also show up the error message 2000 0146.I am not technical at all, so am hoping this is going to make sense to someone who can explain it in very simple lanuage.Just to reconfirm, I do not have any windows recovery disks - and cannot access safe mode at all.

View 3 Replies View RelatedPer microsoft I need to do try a repair install from original disk. Is there a difference between running repair install from Windows or booting from original disk then selecting upgrade install? Is one or the other preferred? Directions say both attempt to preserve installed programs, but not all drivers, and both require reinstalling all the 60 or so windows updates released after my disk. so no differences there.

Only problem I have now is that I can't find any 64-bit drivers for the fingerprint sensor. When I went to check the first time device manager showed it as an SMSC fingerprint sensor but checking their site didn't assist at all, any working driver? View 4 Replies View RelatedI am pretty sure that a virus cause this, right before my computer shut down on it's own my anti virus popped up and said that a Trojan was found but I didn't have to do anything. Then the computer shut down and when it restartrd started to load files and then go into startup repair, only it couldn't fix it. I tried a restore, but again it said that the startup files wern't there. I just quickly scanned the diagnostic details and noticed something that said "boot critical file C:CI.dll is corrupt".
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to run a USB microscope on my work laptop (Win 7 Enterprise SP1, 32bit, Core i5). As I am not an administrator I am having trouble getting it working
The microscope (Veho VMS-004) requires its own drivers and program to operate. I have solved the latter by running the program from a U3 memory stick, but I still need to find a way of installing/running the drivers. Can the drivers be run in the same way, and if not is there?
(And yes I know that I am not strictly supposed to be using non-approved drivers/programs on a work laptop, but the approval process takes months to complete.)
Basically what happened is my vista drive died. This was the first drive with the MBR on the system. I had been using the Windows 7 raid (Nforce) for a while with no issues until the vista drive died in a fire. So my current problem are as follows:1.When I toss the Windows 7 DVD in the drive and attempt to load the NForce drivers for my system (needed for the repair procedure), I get failed to load drivers. Yes I have ensured to point the Windows repair utility to the correct files on the CD that came with the board (XFX 750i). They will attempt to load but just fail.So my question now is how do I get my RAID 0 setup to boot? There is no MBR on this disk. Is it possible to write the MBR to the disk once the drivers finally get loaded?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm not entirely sure if this possible and if it some help with it would be greatly appreciated Basically i have a webcam that has drivers soley for 32bit systems my Windows 7 ultimate is a 64bit system and windows wont install the drivers no matter how much i try and force it to. So i setup XP mode and it all works fine, i can run the video capturing software, Windows live messenger etc in XP mode with the USB webcam attached and it works a treat.
However it gets rather odious to have to keep running WLM via XP mode, so i was wondering if there was a way that the webcam's drivers will run in XP mode with it being in the background and then work on windows 7 so that i can use the applications in 7 instead of XP mode. Im not even sure where to start with something like this so if someone could point me in the right direction it would be nice.
Just to clarify as i do know that my written communication skills can be severly lacking sometimes :P, i just want the drivers to run and no applications for XP mode so that windows 7 can recognize the hardware, is it possible or is it not a realistic thing?
I have recently suffered from random shutdowns. We tried to debug it here in sevenforums and got to conclusion that the problem might be in my Nvidia drivers so now I'm in the process of uninstalling them completely and then re installing them.So I have downloaded driver fusion, but I'm also considering using this thread: How to: Remove your Nvidia GPU Drivers.Anyways, either way, the first part is to uninstall drivers from programs and features list. I had six Nvidia programs there. I started uninstalling them one by one. I got to graphics uninstalling part, and it required restarting the system. I clicked OK, but then my computer screen just went black, and I had to manually press the power button to shutdown my computer. ( Later I saw some tutorial which said you should uninstall everything except graphics program first, then uninstall the graphics program, so that might have caused the weird uninstall progress )
The whole uninstalling progress was weird. When I restarted my computer, I was in 640x480 resolution ( which is normal after uninstalling drivers? ) but the computer required restart of the system, so I went ahead and boom, it restarted with nvidia drivers on and with full resolution. I noticed, that the Nvidia drivers were older version, that I had updated from while ago. I did some research and found out this was quite normal that windows just rollbacked the drivers.Anyways I did this process so many times, that I got on the first nvidia drivers I've installed ( I guess ). Then I uninstalled them and it restarted without any Nvidia drivers in programs and features list, but I STILL HAD ALL THE FILES IN MY C: DRIVE. Also, the nvidia control panel didn't show up in taskbar as usual, but I could open it by typing it in Windows Start and clicking it. I tried to delete some Nvidia folder from C: but I couldn't because it was in use. It seems I have the oldest Nvidia drivers ever installed on this computer ( 301 sth. ). My screen is also in full resolution (ofc). How I can uninstall Nvidia, when it doesn't show up in programs and features list and start to delete the entries manually or with driver fusion?
A few days ago, I went to turn on my computer and it just gave me a black screen after the "Starting Windows" screen. I attempted to use System Repair, which failed. It said there was an unspecified error possibly caused by a change in system configuration. I have not changed anything on my computer, for the record, between the last time it worked and now. My husband said it downloaded updates, which would explain why it was off in the first place instead of just being on stand-by. Anyway, I then tried System Restore, which also failed. I can get it to start in Safe Mode with Networking, but it seems that everything I try to run to figure out what the problem is, is saying it can't find the problem. I enabled bootlogging and found this...

I'm just installed windows 7 on my 2009 imac through bootcamp. However there are some problems. Ive noticed when i try to play something on windows media player it will tell me that my computer is running low on memory and to close some windows. Also games run poorly if at all. I suspect its a driver issue but have gone through all the auto updates etc.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Satellite C655-S5132 that just shut down & now will not boot Windows 7. Just goes to black screen w/blinking cursor then goes to 'startup repair' (which I'm postiive this is a virus of somekind) & will not allow me to do anything. Just repeats itself. I downloaded Windows 7 repair to a CD-R, chgd BIOS settings to CD/DVD to boot first, saved changes, and will NOT pull/boot up from disc. I've tried 2diff repair discs, both do not work. 'F8' does not do anything for me, not able to get to 'safe mode'. Computer is only 2yrs old.
