Windows 7 Random Restart?
Feb 3, 2010I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) on my workstation, previously running Windows XP professional. My problem is that it is extremely unstable; It randomly restarts - my screen goes black and then it restarts. I have installed Windows 7 twice - on the first install. I had gotten everything set up, all my programs (primarily video editing in nature- Adobe Master Collection CS3, Sorenson Squeeze and such) and my computer restarted. It froze and for a half second a scrambled screen appeared then it restarted. On restart it first said that it needed a bootable device cause it couldn't find one. On the second attempt at restart it would not allow me to load into windows it just came to the screen "starting windows" and remained there. On restart it gave me no option for start normal - just the option to repair system startup - or continue if it was just a power failure. The continue did not work. So I tried to repair startup - this would not work either - it said that windows could not repair itself. So I was forced to format my drive and reinstall.
On second installation - I thought I was safe. Then I had the same random restart. This time however, I repaired restart. It said that it was repairing my registry. But it must have monkeyed with it because it corrupted some of my programs. Then I continued to have the same freeze, scramble, reboot - only on the next several occasions it gave me a bluescreen. I tried after looking at forums to up the voltage of my ECC Ram (4gb - 2slots) from 1.8v to 1.83v (manufacture says they should run at 1.8v). This did not seem to help. I also tried running it with only one stick of Ram - worked for awhile over night, but then failed again the next day. I don't know if there is any relation - two failures were during system backup (from backup/restore center) and twice it failed when I was deleting from the trash. But then it failed at other random times as well. - However, It will work for extended periods of time - but then randomly quits.
I am trying to find the problem - but do not know where else to look. It appears to be hardware, but then I am not sure if it could be software related. I MUST get this machine up and running - Primary work machine.

Windows 7 Will Restart Fine Once Running, But Will Not Boot
Oct 12, 2011So, upon receiving a new Asus G53SW-XN1 laptop, I promptly put in a smallish SSD to serve as a Windows/common apps drive, moving the HDD to the other hard drive slot.
Fresh install of Windows 7, etc. At the moment, Windows will not boot up - no splash screen, no opportunity for Safe Mode, etc. But Windows is perfectly happy to run - if I boot off a CD, then hit 'Restart', everything starts up fine. The Repair Windows Installation option on the CD sees the Windows installation okay, and when asked to repair says 'no problems are found', and happily reboots. Some sort of MBR/partition issue that the Repair doesn't detect?

Random Restart And Hang?
Aug 20, 2012I bought a FSP Aurum 600w today. I finally replaced my generic power supply after using it for 2 years. Now, I just want to know how can I test if my PSU is good? I mean, I left my PC downloading something but when I came home, it hung again. I thought changing the power supply would fix the problem. I also changed my RAM sticks to RipJaws which went okay. The BSODs were gone. Now I just need to solve the unnecessary hanging when I leave it overnight while downloading.I thought that when I replace my PSU with a new one, it will "fix" the restarting and hanging thing because my former PSU was just a generic one and they said it's not good and it doesn't last for over a year so I thought that was the cause of problem. Because my PC will restart as if it lost power for 1 sec then it will return again.

The Random Freezing occurs since July/August 2011, it occurs when I used Skype/Gaming/Browing videos streaming, since thats the major things I do.I had formatted my laptop and installed a new copy but Doesnt help. Firstly, the system was running fine, so they did a format but when I bought it home, the freeze occured, Then they changed the hard disk even though it was tested ok, but the freeze occurred.Followed by the whole motherboard was changed, and yet the freeze occur So I was told not to install and drivers, using the generic drivers that were already installed in my system + the latest ATI driver, it was working fine, for 2 days, However I noticed after the windows update where SP1 was installed, my system starts to freeze again.

Feb 16, 2011Basically the main problem is that whenever my computer is left running for any given amount of time, them I will get a system restart. I would be transferring a large amount of files from a hard drive to a backup overnight, only to find myself on the login screen and half of the files transferred next morning. 32bit Program Not Running On 64bit
Aug 5, 2011i recently downloaded a patch for this game (an unofficial one) and when i came to install it i get an error telling me that "this program is not compilable with your version of windows please contact the vendor for the correct version of the program (32bit or 64bit)" I've never encountered this problem before and as far as i know 32 bit programs should work on 64 bit OSes just fine (i have windows 7 ultimate 64 bit btw)i just want to know have you guys ever encountered such an error? how did you solve it/get past it?

Selected "Start Windows Normally" and after the Windows Logo ("Windows is starting") the screen suddenly goes black again like what I had experienced earlier (black I mean black-black, the monitor LEDs do not light up) then the hard drive LED blinks off for about a second, blinks on, off again, then on, and the computer restarts. Windows 7 Laptop Freezes - No Longer Able To Boot After Hard Restart
Nov 1, 2012I have a HP labtop and my laptop froze all of a sudden so I did a hard restart of the computer. After restarting the computer I am no longer able to boot my computer up, the screen will go black sometimes after the log in screen. But now I do not even get the option to go to the log in screen now it just goes to the startup recovery stage. Everytime I try to fix start up I get startup repair off line following by the details of 0.00000 or something like that. The numbers are all zeros in the details but I tried other options like restoring to a previous point and I keep getting errors.

Dec 26, 2009I am new to this forum and looking for some opinions. I recently built a new desktop and installed Win 7 64bit and it was a walk in the park. So now I am going to upgrade the wife's laptop. It is a HP Pavilion zv6270us. It has a Athlon 64 3500+ at 2.0GHz with 2GB DDR PC2700 Cl 2.5 333mhz memory. I dual booted Win 7 RC 64bit to test and had a few driver problems since HP won't support this unit for Win 7.
I was able to use some Vista drivers with a hack to get the sound working. Only thing not working is the Fax Modem which I never use. We use the laptop for E-Mail, Web browsing and wife is addicted to "Bejeweled 2" which runs fine under Win 7 64.
I was thinking of installing Win 7 32bit and wondering if 64bit was worth the effort as far as bootup time and performance. I was thinking 32bit might have better drivers and might even perform better.
