I tried posting on the Windows 7 forums, but I seemed to have gone nowhere fast with them over there. Lots of page views, but not a single piece of help or advice and quickly buried under tons of other BSOD threads. So I'm hoping someone here could point me in a direction and help narrow down what's going on and what needs to be done.
View 18 RepliesMy system has been getting random Blue Screens while I play games. It's completely random. I may go a full day without a crash, or it may happen 2 or 3 times in a few hours. It's happened on multiple games, but only while gaming. I read on a forum entry that Daemon tools, can cause this, and have uninstalled it. It seemed to fix it, but then it just happened again recently. It has primarily happened while playing Fallout 3 and the Path of Exile Beta, but those have really been the only 2 games I've been playing recently. System specs are:

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently changed the cabinet of my computer and since then I've been getting freezes and BSODS, when it freezes it just gets stuck at whatever I'm doing and makes a buzzing noise through the speakers. I haven't had time to read the error codes when I get the BSODS, it reboots to fast. The freezes/BSODS appear to happen more frequently when gaming, but it also occurs when I'm just browsing. have Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and have tried reinstalling it but it didn't help.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer has been experiencing crashes daily for a while now, and I strongly suspect my power supply is the problem, but I do not have very much experience with this problem. My computer will just crash without any warning whatsoever when I play TF2, Nexuiz, or any other game for that matter. I could be playing for anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours and get a crash at any point in between. Who Crashed and BlueScreenView point out ntoskrnl.exe more than any other driver, but occasionally it will point out my graphics driver, lan driver, or directx itself.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI started testing windows 7 RTM on a couple of PCs at home to see if I could make the transition. Basically I have 3 PCs, one dev PC downstairs, wifes upstairs, and a home theatre PC that serves the house.
I have had no problems upgrading the downstairs and upstairs PC but I'm at my wits end on the media PC (which specs are in my profile)
The media PC has been running rock solid for about 2 years on vista x64, but I wanted to move it to Windows 7 based on my evaluation and the new WMC. Things looked good, however I keep this PC on all the time since it serves stuff to other PCs and does things like removing commercials over night etc. Anyways at about 8am in the morning it just halted, no blue screen, no activity just halted. Need to do a hard power off. Anyways here are the things I have done so far to troubleshoot. All have lead to a lockup at some point or another:
1) Upgraded the MB bios to latest
2) Turned off on board audio (use ATIs), turned off 1394, serial, parrellel, secondary SATA chipset
3) Took out 2 dimms (run at 2gB)
4) Thinking it could be heat (but had no temp evidence to support it), opened the case and put a fan on the components.
5) Upgraded the Intel Matrix Manager to latest release
6) Tried tweaking some voltages on memory
Its just the weirdest thing, but I'm use to seeing a bluescreen or an error like that and with this I have nothing to really go on.
All my attempts have sort of left me at a loss, not really sure what component to really concentrate on. I'm thinking memory but I'm not sure.

Since I was running stable with vista x64 I can't really come up with why I'm not running stable with Windows 7. Could it really be hardware if I was running fine before?? Does Windows 7 access memory differently? It leads me to believe its drivers, but I'm not running really anything extravagant. If anyone has any suggestions or methods to try let me know.
i have a system which i got 1 month ago and it was stable and good till recently i started getting BSOD at random times , i tried to update my bios as most were saying but i couldnt because whenever i click on bios update utilite i get black screen! with no respond (i tried the updating from bios not windows Asus dont offer bios update from inside windows ) however . i noticed i get this bluescreen often when playing shogun 2 but in general i still get BSOD when doing other stuff at random times (ex: other games/work on office package) also sometimes when i play other games i either get BSOD or a sudden system lag where everything stops with a noisy sound coming from my speaker.
btw : in my BSOD i get the famous physical memory dump 100% line at the bottom
and i also updated my graphics drivers and rolled back to the old stable one but with no use
New PC, and I'm getting BSOD randomly when the computer is idleing followed by a restart, before 11th of Dec there used to be 5 or 6 restarts a day, but after that time I updated windows 7 and now I'm getting 1 or 2 a day. I ran memtest for a 7 pass test and showed no errors. My Windows 7 is - x64 - Ultimate installed by myself. - Full retail version. - Age of system (hardware)? 1 month old. - Age of OS installation? 1 month old.

My computer has always randomly shut down either when in use or not in use or even if I was using it to send videos to my ps3 to watch on tv. So I called the tech guys at dell to see if there was some kind of issue to be concerned with about my pc restarting, after three separate techs doing tests and what not, my computer boots games up perfectly well, but as soon as I get into the game and start trying to play, the game lags soooooo much that they are no longer playable.

First noticed while experimenting with Aion, a few days later it also occurs with Star Wars: The Old Republic, something it hadn't done before. The program files don't include any duplicate files (which I thought may be a problem. Aion did have a duplicate initially, and the deletion of this file appeared to fix the problem, though it returned the next day. Further research has indicated that the CPU maybe overheating, or the the PSU is failing. I'm not "techy" enough to know if it is the PSU, when the computer shuts down, there is no warning, just a black screen and then the keyboard lights and fans stop running roughly 5s afterwards.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThis is a new pc build using various parts we have accumulated. When using Internet Explorer I get app crashes. I have been playing DC Universe Online and get random app crash, display drivers stop responding, apphangB1, I also lose monitor signal. Here is a list of fixes we have tried already:
-We have disabled internet explorer add ons and even tried disabling IE completely, to no avail
-We have swapped out the 5770 for an 8800 GTX that we know works, same problem
-We have the latest BIOS/drivers
-We have run SpeedFan, CPU temp 41C
-We have run Memtest for both sticks of RAM at the same time in slots 1 and 3 and there was an error, so we tried to isolate the bad RAM by testing invidivual sticks in slot 3 - no errors on either stick? therefore, we put the sticks in slots 3 and 4, assuming there may be a problem with slot 1 - worked ok for a couple of hours, then game crashes and black screen with sound requiring reboot. Monitor is fine, as it works on my BF's pc with no problems.
-We have tried a couple of installs of Windows 7
-We have run chkdsk - no errors.The BIOS is running on default, nothing overclocked - we have used the correct timings for the RAM and autotimed them, same problem
We are currently not using an antivirus because we did not want to add more problems, but we will get AVAST.My BF has given up now, as there is nothing else he can think of to try. I feel we are so close to resolving the issue, as it did run fine for a while, but then a bunch of errors all at once. If it helps, here is a copy of the error log.
I have been having random reboots and sometimes hard-hangs whenever I am starting to play any PC games after start-up. I have to keep resetting and run through any checks I could think of but the checks always find everything to be okay. Sometimes I do get BSOD and I remember vaguely something about SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION and also the DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL phrases.[CODE]

Now today, the other crashes started, with the first happening out of nowhere, the second happening upon starting a video game. I've been without crashes for a while now, only having used my browser(Opera) and copying some files to an external hard drive. As well as the SF tool.I only have 2 dump files available. View 6 Replies View RelatedI reformatted my computer multiple times, yet my computer seems to BSOD randomly.What happenes is that everything becomes unresponsive; cant alt+tab, cant ctrl+alt+del etc etc. everything freezes randomly... then boom, BSOD. its happened twice, with no apparent pattern.And then, when it restarts, it tries booting but then it goes into the boot selection screen and my SSD is nowhere to be found. I have to power off then power on again for it to boot up and log in.

I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) on my workstation, previously running Windows XP professional. My problem is that it is extremely unstable; It randomly restarts - my screen goes black and then it restarts. I have installed Windows 7 twice - on the first install. I had gotten everything set up, all my programs (primarily video editing in nature- Adobe Master Collection CS3, Sorenson Squeeze and such) and my computer restarted. It froze and for a half second a scrambled screen appeared then it restarted. On restart it first said that it needed a bootable device cause it couldn't find one. On the second attempt at restart it would not allow me to load into windows it just came to the screen "starting windows" and remained there. On restart it gave me no option for start normal - just the option to repair system startup - or continue if it was just a power failure. The continue did not work. So I tried to repair startup - this would not work either - it said that windows could not repair itself. So I was forced to format my drive and reinstall.
On second installation - I thought I was safe. Then I had the same random restart. This time however, I repaired restart. It said that it was repairing my registry. But it must have monkeyed with it because it corrupted some of my programs. Then I continued to have the same freeze, scramble, reboot - only on the next several occasions it gave me a bluescreen. I tried after looking at forums to up the voltage of my ECC Ram (4gb - 2slots) from 1.8v to 1.83v (manufacture says they should run at 1.8v). This did not seem to help. I also tried running it with only one stick of Ram - worked for awhile over night, but then failed again the next day. I don't know if there is any relation - two failures were during system backup (from backup/restore center) and twice it failed when I was deleting from the trash. But then it failed at other random times as well. - However, It will work for extended periods of time - but then randomly quits.
I am trying to find the problem - but do not know where else to look. It appears to be hardware, but then I am not sure if it could be software related. I MUST get this machine up and running - Primary work machine.

I bought a FSP Aurum 600w today. I finally replaced my generic power supply after using it for 2 years. Now, I just want to know how can I test if my PSU is good? I mean, I left my PC downloading something but when I came home, it hung again. I thought changing the power supply would fix the problem. I also changed my RAM sticks to RipJaws which went okay. The BSODs were gone. Now I just need to solve the unnecessary hanging when I leave it overnight while downloading.I thought that when I replace my PSU with a new one, it will "fix" the restarting and hanging thing because my former PSU was just a generic one and they said it's not good and it doesn't last for over a year so I thought that was the cause of problem. Because my PC will restart as if it lost power for 1 sec then it will return again.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen i game the game will freeze sound still plays but mouse everything locks up. Have to warm reboot. Other times it goes to black screen, and still have to warm reboot. I had this problem starting a year ago. At that time i did mem test, cpu stress test, gpu stress test, all came back fine. Back then it use to reboot itself. So, i figured maybe a psu issue, it was still under warranty so i sent it off, they did find a bad capacitor and replaced! Cool no a month after getting it back started doing as mentioned above. So, at that time i had a 8800GTX 1.5 gig video card in it. So, i spent the money and went to a Geforce 560 GTX 2 gig, eventhough i had stressed tested the 8800. Ok so a week or so went by all good then it started up again. Only has it locked up once while not gaming. Always locks on WOT(world of tanks unless i use the older 275 nvidia driver) DIdnt use to lock up with Diablo III, TSW, SWTOR, SCII. Untill recently sometimes its once or twice a night others its 3 or 6 times. I ran a Mem test a week ago ran for 9 plus hours no errors.

I finally resorted to swapping out my ATI 6870 to an NVidia 8800 and the problem ceased...for awhile. Now it happens once or twice a day, only while gaming or some other intensive process. I do not know what to do.

I would be transferring a large amount of files from a hard drive to a backup overnight, only to find myself on the login screen and half of the files transferred next morning. Or I'd be playing a game, surfing the web, even the simplest of tasks, it doesn't matter.

View 5 Replies View Relatedyesterday i started receiving a bsod while i was playing diablo3. i was having no issues with the game, everything was running fine and all of a sudden the screen froze and the sound got stuck so to speak. after a few minutes i then received a bsod. i rebooted the computer and went back to playing. i received another bsod. i looked on the diablo3 forums and saw that this was an issue that was affecting a lot of players. but before this day i had been playing the game fine for hours at a time for at least 5 days. i saw that the graphics drivers may be causing an issue so i made sure that they were up to date. i still received the bsod after 20-40 minutes of playing. i tried reverting to old drivers and still received the bsod. i tried uninstalling the game and re-installing and still received the bsod. i decided to try a different game and after about 30 minutes of that game my computer crashed. both of the games are made by blizzard so i thought it might be an issue with them. however, i have never received an error before when playing the second game, which i have been playing for a year or so on this computer.i then tried watching a video on Internet and after about 23 minutes it froze and i got the bsod. i tried one more time to watch another video and this time i lasted almost an hour before it crashed. i decided to let my computer sit with nothing on the screen for almost 2 hours. when i went to open the internet it didn't seem to respond and just hung with the blue busy wheel. i was not able to open any program. i did ctrl+alt+del and got a black screen followed by a box that read "failure to display security and shut down options". i then had to turn the computer off by the power button.my computer doesn't seem to be writing dump files even though i have enabled them to be saved. im not sure how to remedy that. i have tried updating my graphics drivers and reverting to old ones. i have done a memtest and no problems were detected. i monitor my temps and it never seems to get anywhere close to overheating.i have never had a problem with this computer until yesterday. the only major things that have changed is that i downloaded diablo3 on the 25th (though i didnt start receiving the bsods until the 30th) and i have recently moved so i have a new router and internet connection.
