Windows 7 Will Restart Fine Once Running, But Will Not Boot

Oct 12, 2011

So, upon receiving a new Asus G53SW-XN1 laptop, I promptly put in a smallish SSD to serve as a Windows/common apps drive, moving the HDD to the other hard drive slot.

Fresh install of Windows 7, etc. At the moment, Windows will not boot up - no splash screen, no opportunity for Safe Mode, etc. But Windows is perfectly happy to run - if I boot off a CD, then hit 'Restart', everything starts up fine. The Repair Windows Installation option on the CD sees the Windows installation okay, and when asked to repair says 'no problems are found', and happily reboots. Some sort of MBR/partition issue that the Repair doesn't detect?

Windows 7 Always Freezes On Restart But Starts Up Fine After Shutdown?

Jan 4, 2011

I just built a new system today, and I have been running into some significant issues whenever I try to reboot. Basically, the system hangs up on the Starting Windows screen at the exact same instance whenever I reboot. This has been happening since I installed Windows 7 64-bit edition. After I booted and installed off of the installation DVD, it froze up on the first restart. I then tried to install Windows again. That worked, but it then again froze on the first reboot. I then had to manually shut down the pc and start it up again. Fortunately, it picked up where I left off and finished the Windows 7 install. After I installed Windows 7, I have had no problems whatsoever expect for when I restart, as the system freezes at the point specified on the image above. However, if I shut down my computer and then start it up, everything loads fine.

Here are my specs:

AMD Phenom II Black Edition dual core 3.2 ghz CPU (all four cores unlocked, overclocked at 3.8 ghz)
HIS Radeon HD 4670 GPU
BIOSTAR T A870+ mobo
Seagate Barracuda SATA 7,200 RPM 1TB HD
4 gigs G.SKILL DDR3 240-pin RAM

Slow Motion Windows Visual Transitions - Fine On Restart

Oct 31, 2012

Every time I boot my PC now, Windows' visual transitions (screen fades, maximizing / minimizing, opening / closing windows, etc) go at like 1/4 speed. It's annoying and slows things down (everything else is fine though). "Restarting" from the start menu fixes it, but shutting down and booting up again does not. I know I can just shut them off. But this is a recent build and I want to know what's wrong. This seemed to start happening out of nowhere.

Cannot Detect One Particular Wireless Network - Others Fine Running Windows 7

Oct 24, 2010

I have just moved house and been given the internet details by the landlord. The provider is Virgin and the landlord asked for my MAC addresses of each device to allow access to the internet and gave me the password. I managed to connect on my iPhone and my housemate who is also running windows 7 off a laptop can also connect. However the network does not even appear in my wireless list. Several other wireless networks in the area are being detected but not the one in the house. I know it's not hidden as I can connect on other devices.

I have tried a manual setup with the network name, encryption etc and tick "allow connection even when network is hidden" but all to no avail. Unfortunately I have no access to the router as the landlord has that next door, however seems strange it would be a router issue if the other devices connect fine. I have been through all the settings with my housemate and ensured we have the same setup and am now thoroughly baffled and annoyed.

Running Fine, Then Restarted, And BSOD On Windows Loading Screen

Apr 19, 2012

Well I will get right to it. Its a desktop I built about 4 mths ago. I was goofing off all day, ran perfect. I got my package from Tiger.com, yay new memory. I also bought a drawing tablet that came w/ photoshop ele 8 and artrage. I promptly shut down my system, installed the new stick of matching memory, Corsair DDR3 4g 1600mhz, in slot two and four, with the old stick. I was only running one stick due to an order error. I reboot. The system recognizes it, runs fine. I install photoshop ele 8 and art rage along with an update to java. So far no problems. I turn the system off to plug in the drawing tablet per the instructions it came with. When it goes to reboot, i get to the windows loading screen, the animation just starts to load when i get a flash BSOD then the moniter shuts off to no signal and the computer just sits there fans and all running. I am using Win 7 home premium 64. I can get into BIOS. I have run the launch repair. I have tried putting the memory back to the previous configuration. I have run the memory diagnostic tool. I have tried system restore but no points to restore. I have tried to repair install with Windows disc, says disc is incompatible with current version, its the same disc i used to install windows the first time. I have tried to reinstall windows twice, still does it. I have attempted to make a repair disc, didnt work. If you can tell me how to get dump files from this state i would be happy to do so. If it helps at all i am using an SSD as my main hard disk, i have a second drive but there is nothing on it atm. I am just at a loss, i know a good bit about computers but not far enough, lol. My desktop is my baby and i really wanna get it up and running again.

Windows 7 64 Bit Suddenly Started Running Slow - RAM Registering Fine

Apr 23, 2011

All of a sudden on my Windows 7 ultimate 64bit, my Windows started to run so slow to the point where I can basically not even use it. All the stats show my RAM registering fine(4gb) and I just can't find what the problem will be. In its normal mode, it will take around 20min just to get to the front screen and is super slow when it comes to opening programs as well. It seems to run safe mode fine though, with speeds that I am used to.

System Performance Slow Warning In Any Game Otherwise Running Just Fine

Dec 29, 2011

I'm very tired of seeing this message booting me to desktop just to ask me if I want to change the color scheme because it perceives my computer is running slow. Load up Batman AC? 10 minutes in focus changes from said full-screen app to this completely unnecessary 'warning'. Battlefield 3? Same thing. Assassin's Creed? Same thing. Skyrim? Same thing.... I don't need Windows to tell me that my resources are being used when I know they are being used. Am I really going to have to go into Properties and Compatibility mode for every game I play? I have clicked that button so many times yet it continues to show! It specifically says "Keep the current color scheme and don't show this message again" Yet even after clicking said button it still shows...

Installs Fine, Runs Fine, Reboots..not Fine

May 20, 2009

so i finally decided to install Windows 7 x86 - everything went well - put all the standard stuff on there etc - i rebooted many times because of installations and updates

on my last reboot it just got stock in the bios screen (verifying dmi pool data..success! etc)

so i rebooted, same thing, took the disc out, same thing - turned off boot devices same thing

tried to use window's useless repair tools (whatever happened to repair install?) which didn't help - so i decided to format and reinstall - then it says it was unable to do that (partition error or something)

the annoying this is...is that this EXACT..i mean EXACT same thing happened when i installed vista sp1 from scratch - this happened - and to fix it i had to leave my pc open overnight with the hard drive cables all unplugged..in the morning with my fingers crossed i tried the installation again - and it worked.

my d: always disappears (single hard disk sata 233gig (250)) - sometimes it'll vanish from my computer and stuff - but this can't be the problem because the d: is a single drive on its own - my c: is a25gig partition from my e: - so it's completely unrelated.

does it matter how i replug the sata cables (2 of them) into the mother board? - they're both being recognised anyway

this is really annoying though - mostly because there isn't really an explanation - and because this random stuff always happens to my pc! - is it my hard drive because that's the only thing that would half- make sense

Windows 7 Will Not Boot Properly On 1st Try / Fine On 2nd?

Feb 29, 2012

Working on a a New Dell Inspiron Desktop (Dec 2011) with Windows7 All was we'll until about a month ago, when it would not boot up properly, it would get to the windows logo and freeze, or take a tremendous amount of time to get to desktop. I minimized msconfig start up programs, ran a CHKDSK, start up repair, system restore, everything, still no real luck, however once started it would run fine. Finally I did a complete reinstall, and all was smooth for a day, and boom once again, it will not boot properly on 1st try, then if I power down and immediately reboot it will start and run fine, I am puzzled, could it be a HDD issue? Even though when once past starting up session it runs fine. Usually in my experience if a hdd is the culprit it will run bad in more than just the start up session.

Fix Detecting Array And Windows 7 Restart On Boot

Feb 6, 2013

About 2 weeks ago my computer started experiencing some technical difficulties when the video card went out. The screen began to be cut up by 3 discolored bars running vertically spread out across the screen. Realizing this was a video card issue i went out and bought a new Nvidia Geforce 640 and replacing the old obsolete one. While looking for instructions online on how to properly install the new driver, i came across one that said to use this driver sweep program to wipe the driver from the system then restart and install the new software. upon using the program however i might have cleared another driver accidentally in the process. it was abbreviated ATG or something along those lines. When i finally physically installed the driver upon restart the video problems were all fixed and the graphics were back to normal. However, after bios i get a quick detecting arrays error that flashes for a fraction of a second ( i had to record it and pause it off my iphone to read the array error) and the computer automatically reboots upon getting to the windows 7 logo.

Slower Windows 7 Boot W/ DWM Running

Jan 9, 2010

I'm hoping you can help me unwind an annoying performance issue I've uncovered in Windows 7; one that doesn't seem to be documented at all if the Google is to be believed.

I recently upgraded my laptop (a Lenovo T60p, C2D T7200 proc, 2GB RAM, ATI X1400) with both a new SSD (an OCZ Vertex 60 GB) and Windows 7 Pro x64. Performance and stability has been terrific. Especially that sub-30-second boot time!

Initially, I had desktop composition disabled, so that Windows 7 was running without the Desktop Windows Manager. I just recently enabled it when I discovered that it's pretty damn sexy, and had little impact on battery life (if anything, it seems to have gotten better).

However, now my laptop takes much longer to boot - about an additional 30 seconds or so following the Windows login screen. When I disable DWM, it goes back to booting quickly. Now I realize you can't get something for nothing, but 30 seconds for a single process? A fairly lightweight process that you can enable instantly in the desktop environment? My hunch is that that just isn't right - something is interacting badly. Thus my questions are:

1. Does anyone know if this is normal behavior for DWM?
2. Is there anything I can do to address this?
3. Or, is there a good forum/online resource where I could post this (rather esoteric) question?

PC Won't Boot After Restart.

Dec 9, 2012

I've had issues with my PC booting up for a while now but usually after a few restarts it would work right. A few days ago it stopped booting. It would get through the system startup but would stop at a black screen when it should be loading the OS. I reinstalled the OS and it worked on initial startup. But once the PC was restarted the problem came back. I tried changing out the hard drive but the same thing happened. I then used a friends computer to download an ISO of windows 8 developer trial. It installed fine but upon restart did the same thing. Although windows 8 said something about not being able to find some windows start file. I'd rather not spend money buying things if they are not necessary.

Boot, Automatic Restart Don't Work

Mar 28, 2012

Some weeks ago my desktop (Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit) started crashing sometimes, mostly when I put it into suspend mode. It could generally be restarted by powering up again, sometimes a couple of times. I didn't do anything unusual at the time such as major new hardware or programs. Now the problem is systematic and I can't really boot anymore in normal mode. Windows 7 hangs on the screen with the four-colored animated window early in the process.I've tried: * The auto-repair option when booting. This reports an error for which no solution is known:

StartupRepairOffline
1 6.1.7600.16385
2 same number
3 unknown

[code]...

* The repair tools on my Windows 7 installation disc. Again no joy.

* Re-installing Windows 7. I did this as an "upgrade", not as a completely fresh install, as I couldn't face re-installing programs and getting user data off and on. The re-install itself did seem to finish. But every time the computer had to be restarted it would freeze. I then turned it off and on manually, and it continued as expected.

* sfc /scannow

* Memory test

* Booting with a protocol file (F8, ntbtlog.txt).

* Fixing the master boot record.

I've not tried restoring to my only system image (9 months old), as I thought this cannot be better than re-installing Windows 7 while keeping the programs and user data ("upgrade"). I did make a Windows Easy Transfer copy of the user files one time when I managed to boot for some reason, so I'm not violently opposed to trying this if there's a good reason.I can start in safe mode. I think the attached protocol file shows two boots: First a regular one which fails, and then a safe mode which doesn't load a lot of stuff but which succeeds. In the first, regular boot there are a couple of drivers that don't load.
