Random Crashes Running Windows 7 - CPU Intensive Operations Occurring

Oct 23, 2011

I've recently received a laptop which has Windows 7 preloaded. About a week after starting to use it, I started experiencing random crashes while CPU intensive operations are occurring. I don't even get a BSOD, the screen just goes black for about .5 of a second and then the entire computer just shuts off. Furthermore, I've scanned for any malicious software, bad packets, etc etc. and those scans returned nothing.

BSOD While Running CPU Intensive Programs - Bug Check Code 0x00000124

Aug 18, 2012

I went through my first attempt at building my own computer about 2 months ago and the process went fine. But about a week after I began using it, I started getting BSOD that seemed happen whenever I would run a CPU intensive program (Handbrake, VMWare Player, etc). It won't always crash when running one of these, but maybe once every couple of days when running a program such as this.I've tried the following after researching online: Ran memtest86 overnight, no errors found in RAM Put in a beefier CPU cooler (ZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler) to lower the CPU temps Reinstalled to a fresh version of Windows 7 Ran 'verifier.exe' according to the steps shown in many posts here - the result of this is that about 30-60 seconds after I login to Windows, a BSOD occurs - this is repeatable every time until I cancel the verifier program The specs of this computer are as follows: Intel Core i7 3770 processor Microsoft Windows 7 Professional x64 Antec BP550 Plus 550W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-16GBXL ASUS Sabertooth Z77 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/z USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard NVIDIA GTX GeForce 550ti (installed AFTER the BSOD started occurring) Crucial M4 2.5" 64 GB SATA III Internal SSD Seagate 300 GB HDD (don't have the exact model here) ASUS 24x DVD-RW ?

BSOD Occurring During Random Tasks/times

Jun 29, 2012

it seems to have been going through a series of BSODs. I've ran several tests to see what might actually activate the BSOD, but it happens when doing different things. Most notably, when I tried creating an account for this forum, I would open the start menu, and right-click on "Computer" to see the specs, but as soon as I tried, the machine instantly BSOD'd me. After rebooting, I tried to replicate the problem, but I was able to see the specs.

They are running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1 on a HP Pavilion P6000. It's OEM and about 2-years since purchase date. Their current AV is Trend Micro Titanium 2012. Crashes also occur during web browsing, windows explorer browsing, and sometimes when the computer is just sitting idly as nothing is open.

Enclosed is the requested zip file containing the folder and HTML file.

Random BSOD Occurring, HTPC - No New Hardware?

Aug 29, 2012

I've recently started to experience a BSOD problem I cannot quite put my finger on. It does not save a log, even though I have it set to save in /Minidump. I have not changed or added any hardware, or software. I completely wiped Windows and started over from scratch, using the most up to date drivers. However they're still occurring, I've restored my BIOS settings to all default settings. I am thinking it was a Hard drive issues, I've ran CHKDSK all both drives - I know my Windows drive was clean, I was not around to see the completion of of my slave drive - I was running CHKDSK via Safemode and came back to a BSOD. I've attached a administrator Eventlog, but am unable to make much sense of it.

The last BSOD I saw read this;

Code: KERNEL_DATA_INAPGE_ERROR
*
*
STOP: 0X0000007A (0XFFFFFF6FC4000099C0, 0XFFFFFFFFC000000E, 0X00000001E7588860, 0XFFFFF88001338890)

NTFS.SYS - Address FFFFF88001338890 base at FFFFF880012450000, Datestamp 4ce792f9 I've ran Memory test already, no errors where found. The next step I am going to try is too unplug my Slave drive and see what happens without it. I've already re-seated both drives and memory sticks.

Windows 7 Random Crashes?

Dec 24, 2009

I'm having a problem with a new computer I bought with Windows 7 (64bit) installed. At seemingly random points in time it will crash on me completely. I've managed to find out from a dumpfile that the likely cause of this problem is something called Rdyboost.sys I've managed to find it listed as a driver in windows/System32. Apart from that though I'm not sure how to find it, and was wondering.

Random Crashes On Windows 7 64-bit Reinstall

Jul 27, 2012

I reinstalled Windows 7 64-bit on my computer (HP p6510f) about a month ago. All went well for about a month. But now I get these random crashes. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to them. Happens when I surf the net, listen to music or play a game. The computer usual runs well for several hours to a day, then WHAM-O! The computer freezes up and I have to re-boot.

I don't get the BSOD and I'm always able to re-boot quickly. What troubleshooting steps should I take? I hope there is a fix to this because I'm getting pretty frustrated over this computer I've only had for a couple of years.

Random Crashes On Freshly Installed Windows 7?

Nov 8, 2011

I had a PC with a Windows 7 install for the last two years that had a motherboard go bad. I ended up buying a Tigerdirect combo (hardware specifics below) and just decided to reuse the case with my original install drive. After taking some time to retune itself to new drivers, the computer kept freezing at random times. In some other forums on this site, I thought it driver related (even though I had updated everything including new MB bios). To make things easier, I installed a new 80GB SSD drive and put in a fresh install of Windows 7. Have updated everything to the nines and avoided adding any additional software until I had data and stuff organized from my previous install. However, the randome gremlin seems to have come back at random times.

I've tried setting memory frequency from auto to the speed in the BIOS, but found this thread and have attached the BSOD zip file for some help. Any thoughts on what is the issue? It may be a hardware problem, but I have run memtest on the memory and just can't seem to find the culprit.

Specs:
MB = MSI H61M-P23
Processor = Intel Core i3-2100
Memory = Patriot 4GB DDR3
Windows 7 Professional 64bit

Taskbar Preventing Operations On Windows 7

Oct 31, 2012

I lost the connection and so I started to shut down my computer. I had programs running that required the Internet to work, and when it went off, they had faded, which is what occurs when you try to shut down a program and it's lagging. Well, the computer took forever for me to pull up the Start Menu because of all these programs lagging, so I had to turn it off manually by holding the power button, which apparently threw it into Sleep Mode (the prompt comes up whenever I turn off my computer, though, since I usually leave my monitor on).Now, even after five or six attempts at restarting the computer, it will let me put in my password to gain access to my account, and then that's it. I will see the desktop and the icons, and the taskbar, but that's where the problem is. The taskbar won't stop loading, nor has it stopped lagging. I can't access anything from the taskbar and whenever I try, it won't let me do anything on the desktop, either. This morning I tried again, and it was still having loading issues. The cursor will turn into the spinning circle whenever I go to the taskbar, but back to the normal pointer whenever I move it away from the taskbar.I'm able to open the computer in Safe Mode and operate as normally.

[BSOD] Random Crashes With New SSD

Dec 22, 2011

I recently got a Kensington HyperX SH100S3B/120G SSD. I've been getting these stange BSODs. It doesn't happen during any particular kind of activity, usually it's just browsing the web or writing documents or something.

Every time the BSODs happen, for some reason the boot order switches from the SSD to my backup drive, and I have to go into the bios and change it. But other than that, my hard drive seems to be perfectly fine functioning afterwards...what's causing this??

All my components are pretty new, so I don't think hardware failure is very likely here. I've thought maybe I should update my bios? But I'm not sure honestly. My mobo is H67MA-E35-B3 LGA 1155 H67 mATX Intel Motherboard.

Random Crashes With No BSOD?

Apr 2, 2012

My brother has been complaining that his PC shuts down randomly. I check the events log and find a very large list of critical Kernel power 41 errors, with no other error before them most of the times. I can't seem to find any pattern to them, so I asume it's hardware related. There's also nothing in particular he does that triggers it. I've runed memtest86 and AIDA64 stress test while checking temperatures with nothing strange, changed the PSU, formatted and clean installed Windows again,still the same. I'm about to surrender with this...

Random Win 7 X64 Crashes And Freezes

Oct 24, 2009

every time i try to install windows 7 on my new build, i do a clean install, however it spends about a second on the copying files part, then waits a few minutes before it starts expanding files. it hangs at 0% for a few more minutes then it will start accelerating. it will crash at random points while it is "expanding files".

the crashes vary, sometimes the display will explode and look lagged out then look like small tiles, the display sometimes turns red where shadows are as well, it also likes to just freeze. it frequently likes to freeze at 76 or 46%.

i had 7 installed one time when i kept my mouse moving constantly throughout the installation, but then the freezes would happen when i would boot into normal windows, but not safe mode.

Random System Crashes

Sep 19, 2011

I am experiencing some disturbing shut downs on my pc. This has been plaguing me for about 6 months now and I can't take it anymore. Just to be clear, these crashes do not provide a BSOD and therefore no error code for me to research and correct on my own. In the last two days, this has happened 4-5 times, and most often while watching streaming video online (but not always). Without warning, everything will lock up (sometimes this is accompanied by a terrible sound emitted from the speakers - presumably looping audio from the video i was watching). The computer then reboots itself without my involvement.

Without warning, everything will lock up (sometimes this is accompanied by a terrible sound emitted from the speakers - presumably looping audio from the video i was watching). The computer then reboots itself without my involvement. Before anyone asks, my drivers are UP TO DATE, and my BIOS is up to date as well. So far, I have asked around and most people point to my graphics card overheating, or a very dirty (dusty) pc as a likely cause. Firstly, my computer is generally kept very clean, and I am monitoring my GPU temps and they are usually WELL within normal ranges (frankly it runs very cool). I have called EVGA for support, and they told me they had not heard of this problem before. They had me run a bunch of gpu stress tests, all of which provided no clue (they were clean) as to what could be wrong. Someone else told me to make sure my RAM was properly seated. I did check that and I can't see any seating issues.

Random Crashes, Refusing To Start Afterwards?

Aug 26, 2012

Since about 4 months ago, my computer has crashed randomly. Every time this happens, I would try to reboot it, and it would start for between one second and five minutes before crashing again. It would continue to refuse to start like this for 10 minutes to three days at one point.It started four months ago, and occurs fairly rarely. Since the first "series" of crashes, it's only happened five or six times, with anytime between a week and a month separating the crashes.My computer has just crashed again, and as expected, is not opening right now, so I'm typing this from my tablet.if there's any specific information needed please tell me and I'd be happy to gather it once my computer decides to start up again.

Edit: More info - Windows 7, computer is about 10 months old, and I do this have a warranty on it. A curious note, the light on my wireless adapter remains on after the computer has crashes, whereas it would normally be off if I turned the computer off normally.Gives me the option of starting in safe mode, crashes there too. Usually it'll crash before the option is even offered. I've also tried plugging it into other sockets around the house, but still crashes.
