Make An Installation DVD That Boots Without Setting The Setup?

Nov 27, 2011

I want to make a 100% automated Windows 7 installation. (Literally 100%, meaning you do not have to know anything to install it) You only need to put the DVD into the DVD Rom and restart the computer and it will automatically:

1- Boots the computer from the DVD (No need to set the DVD Rom to the first priority)

2- Formats the drive C:

3- Installs the windows and drivers and some software

I know how to do part 3, but I'm not sure about parts 1 and 2.

How To Make NumLock On By Default When Windows 7 Boots Up

I looked for a setting and a registry key, but to no avail.

Win 7 Installation Boots Into Recovery Partition

Nov 3, 2009

My boot menu originally consists of Vista (C:) and recovery partition (D:). To install Windows 7, I shrank C and made a separate partition (W:)

Now I have 3 partitions: Vista (C:), New Simple Volume (W:), Recovery (D:).

I installed Windows 7 to the (W:), and it reboots a few times during installation. My situation goes as follows:

Initial installation---Reboot (1 of 3)---bypasses the boot menu and continues installation---Reboot (2 of 3)---boot menu shows up and I can choose to continue the installation of Windows 7, or go to Vista. When I choose Windows 7, it finishes installation---Reboot (3 of 3)---No boot menu is shown. Computer boots into recovery partition.

Why is this happening? Repairing Windows 7 or Vista using recovery partition doesn't help either. It basically just forms a loop by booting to the recovery every time.

Interestingly, the only way I can start Vista again is by reinstalling Windows 7 and wait until the boot menu screen show up after the reboot (2 of 3).

Installation Error: Setup Cannot Continue Due To A Corrupted Installation File

Sep 13, 2009

I am installing Windows 7 (Custom installation initiated from Windows XP) but I get the following error message when the installation is on the "Installing updates" step of the installation:

"Setup cannot continue due to a corrupted installation file. Contact the vendor of your Windows installation disc or your system administrator for assistance."

Do you have any idea what the problem may be with the installation? Is there a way to see what file that may be corrupted?

I have tried to burn the DVD in low speed, but the error appears anyway. I have a MSI K8T Neo2-Fir mainboard and the Windows 7 upgrade advisor application says that my hardware is okay for upgrading.

Windows 7 Only Boots After Installation Disk Timeout?

Sep 16, 2012

I have a Z77 mobo with a new SDD and a HDD from the old PC. At first I installed Windows 7 to the SDD and I could only boot into it when I disconnected the HDD. When I started PC, the logo was shown for a second or so, and then it went into repair mode, the "preparing installation files" progress bar ran twice and the system booted into GRUB that was left on the HDD. I've tinkered in BIOS a lot trying to fix this, but to no avail. Now I've decided to also install Linux (OpenSUSE 12.2) to the SDD, and hoped that GRUB2 would solve my problems. Nope, it didn't detect my Windows 7 at all! (however, it did detect the two(?) old Windows 7 mount points from the HDD). I couldn't even get to boot it by forcing "Windows Boot Manager" from BIOS. I tried to fix this with DVD repair, at first I couldn't get it to work by launching the DVD in UEFI mode, the other one worked, but it only messed up my GRUB2 and I couldn't boot to either system. After some unsuccesful tinkering with bootrec, I found this thread and followed what OP and the best answer guy did, which sums up roughly to this:

Code: C:> bootsect /nt60 C: /force
C:> diskpart
DISKPART> select disk 1
DISKPART> select partition 3
DISKPART> active
DISKPART> extend filesystem
DISKPART> exit
C:> bootrec /rebuildbcd

Then, Windows Repair detected my installation and said it fixed the problem. Now I still can't boot into my system normally (again, it reboots after "Windows is loading files"), however, I can get it to boot after the timeout ("Press any key to boot from DVD") from Windows 7 installation disk! I have no idea what's going on.Here is a screenshot from diskmgmt: The strange thing is the 128MB partition - I suppose this could have been MSR partition, while gparted shows it's a Linux partition! Is this possible, that OpenSUSE installer messed it up?

Also: Code: C:Windowssystem32>bcdedit /v

Windows Boot Manager
--------------------
identifier {9dea862c-5cdd-4e70-acc1-f32b344d4795}
device partition=C:
path ootmgr

HP Laptop No Operation System Found Boots Only With Installation Disc

Jun 28, 2011

I have a HP dv9920us. A month ago I upgraded to win7 from vista. Everything was working fine until a couple of days ago when returning from work I found a black screen and an error message " no operating system found". No attention paid since I thought that my hdd went bad. So got a new one installed it but got the same message. So went into BIOS and saw that no hdd was detected. My laptop has 2 sata ports so I changed port and to my relive BIOS recognized my hdd in this 2nd port leading me to believe that the first port had gone bad. I did a clean win7 install. Everything went fine. Installed drivers etc no problem. During the first boot after and right after the post message the laptop just suddenly shut down and rebooted and then shut down again just after the post message. This loop went on for a couple of times and finally ended to a black screen with the message " no operating system found". Checked the BIOS again and the hdd was there. Booted the machine with the installation dvd in the drive this time and after the same loop for a couple of times (boot-post message- shut down- reboot ) instead of going to the no "operating system found" it continued and loaded win7. I've performed every possible test that I know for checking memory, hdd etc and everything looks good. The bottom line is that now the only way that I can use my laptop is to boot it with the installation disc in and it loads and works perfectly. If I try to boot it without the disc I end up with the "no operating system found".

How To Make Bootup Manager Appear In Multi Boott Setup?

Aug 29, 2009

I had a 32 bit Vista installed on my machine first. Then I installed Windows 7 on another partition, thinking that I'd have a dual boot set up. But the second OS became the default system to appear after a bootup and the bootup manager did not appear at all.

So I tried creating another partition and installing another OS there -- this time XP. Now XP became the default OS, and bootup manager still did not appear.

Using EasyBCD, I made sure that the other OSes were properly recorded in the bootup manager. They were. But still...the bootup manager did not appear during bootup.

What do you think I should do? Obviously Windows' bootup manager is somehow impaired. Should I try GRUB?

Remove Drivers From Windows 7 Installation Before Windows Boots?

Dec 12, 2012

I've recently added a new mobo and a new CPU to a certain computer. this computer is now giving me BSOD's shortly after the windows 7 logo appears. booting in safe mode gives the same result.

already tried to set a restore point and did a chkdsk on the drive. imo the old drivers from the old mobo are acting up.

is there a way to remove old drivers from a windows 7 installation (using System Recovery or another pre-windows tool) after which windows 7 will boot 'vanilla' so i can install new drivers?

Can't Seem To Make A Installation Disk

Dec 13, 2010

hard drive 1: (vista)Plugged the hard drive in, the start up screens and the bios both recognise it, yet under 'My Computer' and when trying to install vista on it, it wasn't showing up when asked where I wanted to install vista to. I'm positive I have wired it up properly as there's only 2 wires which are completely different from one another. I do have with me the original installation disk that came with the PC also.

hard drive 2: (windows 7)Same sorta situation with the PC not finding it really. Though his PC only has enough power connections for the 1 hard drive and he wants both at once (there's 2 power connections that fit, but the other goes to the CD drive) Also in the 'cage' bit there is only room for 1 hard drive. also I can't seem to make a installation disk, when I have the old hard drive in, it created a repair disk, not installation disk.

How To Make Installation More Robust

May 28, 2010

As I consistently format my PC every 2 months or so, I am trying to make windows installation / setup more robust and a breeze to fly through, yet my knowledge is limited. Now i only have system files on my C: (system drive) and all other important documents user profiles etc. is on another drive... for this reason when i decide to format and reinstall, i won't have to copy and paste everything etc. so atm i am able to format and install within seconds. But my concern is when i installed windows 7 then pointed the registry's profilelist to the proper destination (eg. d:usersUsername) it wouldnt merge the already created profile... then i also changed the imagepath of the specific profile i wanted to merge with the directory then upon logging back on it completely wiped all data in that directory and started fresh.

Now that you have a brief oveview of my situation my real challenge is HOW do i install windows and merge a user profile to a different directory.. Mind you i have overseen winPE and unattended etc. but that seems more corporate and just seems like more steps to do and im still not 100% sure how to get it working, it also seems like that approach will not install all components and drivers etc. that a normal windows installation would do.

Cannot Complete Installation Of Windows 7 On RAID 10 Setup

Feb 18, 2010

- build a system with 1 WD1101FALS HDD and installed Windows 7 64 bit no problem. All was good for few days until I got a bug to set up a RAID 10.

- Went out bought 3 more of the same drives. All 4 drives are WD1101FALS 1TB.

- Set up the RAID 10 array on the ASUS motherboard, got the RAID drives for Win7 64bit on a USB key.

- Start install, no problem. Win7 asks for drivers, I click browse and select the drives from USB for the RAID. Install continues, files are copied, thing are flying, it's fast.

- Then 1st re-start

- Windows continues to install (finalizing things, registry update, etc).

- I get to 4 check marks on the Windows Install screen and then it goes into the last step "Completing Installation". The progress bar goes to about 80% complete and then

BLACK SCREEN, computer re-starts. Windows comes up with a message "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation can not proceed. etc.." It assks to press OK and and PC re-starts and the installation re-starts from scratch. I tried about 15 times, with different RAID drives, from XP to Vista, to Win7.

I have no clue what else I can try. Usually people have problem with the RAID drives but I have no problem with that step. The drivers are selected and seem to be working fine. The install almost completes.

Here are the images on how far along the install goes. The progress bar actually goes more than that, I just took a picture before the black screen.

Installation Freeze After Setup Files Are Loaded

Dec 10, 2009

So I just built my new computer and fired up my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit disc. The setup files load, the Windows logo video plays, the pretty blue screen with the flowers in the corner appears and my cursor has the rotating green circle indicating something is happening.

Then the circle stops spinning and disappears. At this point it appears the installation freezes. Pressing any keys or moving the mouse does nothing. I have to restart the computer. Same thing happens. Any off-the-bat suggestions before I start troubleshooting hardware?

My hard drives are in a RAID configuration per the M/B controller and a mirror volume has been created on the disk. I have one IDE DVD rom drive (the only part of the computer that's not brand new) and one additional HD audio card installed. The system is stable in the BIOS.

Setup Is Starting Services / Windows Could Not Complete Installation

Jul 19, 2012

Setup is starting services.Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation.About one month ago I decided I wanted to have a clean install of windows 7 on my acer machine. I did this by using an acer made pre-installed program. It claims to be very straightforward, all you have to do is click a button and they will reinstall windows 7 for you and even back up all your data ,so that after the clean install you don't lose a thing. Sounded great but in reality it has stopped my notebook from working.I am now in a circle-jerk of the error message I stated in the beginning of this topic. Once my computer restarts it just gets me the same error message again. I tried booting from a bootable USB-key with the windows 7 iso downloaded from official sources. But this did not do anything from me. I also went to acer support in my city. They offered me to fix it. All they had to do is copy all the info of my hard drive I wanted to keep and do a fresh install of windows 7. Would take them 3 hours. This is the easyiests option for me. But problem is I live in China and I don't trust those tech support guys for good reasons. I went there with my laptop, the tech-support guy put in a usb-key and started up my computer. It started some kind of diagnostics. After 20 minutes of this he stopped the diagnostics and started running some chinese software on my computer. Presumably booting from the USB-key. After a couple of clicks he was browsing around on my hard-drive. I was right behind him and could see him every move. He was snooping around my folders looking for all sorts of personal stuff. He was going to folders he had no business going to. I think he thought I had no idea what he was doing or would not recognize he was snooping around on my computer. At one point he went into a folder and told him not to go there in chinese. He quickly exited, but then couple of seconds later went back to that same folder to do some looking around. Presumably cause he thought I would not notice. So I do not trust these people one bit. And would not want him to copy all the info of my hard drive to then re-install windows7.
