Twice now I have "done" 'adjust clear type text' to improve legibility of font in parts of Google Earth and Chrome. But THAT text is hard to read AGAIN, suggesting that the 'clear type text' setting does not survive rebooting. How to fix in Win7 Ultimate ?
This is a very useful graphic viewing program, no longer in production, but which works fine under Windows 7. The problem is that setting it up requires the program to write some things to the registry, which apparently is being blocked, so I have to go through the settings every time I load it. In Vista I could make the settings permanent by switching User controls off while I set the program up. With Windows 7 I find that even with it set to minimum, Ember can't write the values.

When using Word to print return mailing labels on Avery 8167 sheets, the font cannot be reduced to fit the label.
Can anyone tell how or if its possible to change the system font to a smaller size than is available at: Control panel / Appearance and Personalization / display..I got a big new monitor where Windows 7 windows now display with a larger font than I need for visibility.I've set the radio button for small and even under Custom DPI setting. It will not let me set anything under 100%.It now shows: 9 point Segoe UI at 96 pixels per inch.I'd probably like 8 point or even 7 point. So, is there anyway to make the fonts smaller beyond those settings
When I print my calendar to hang on my refrigerator the color of the font is the same color as the back ground and subsequently it's very difficult to read. It's also very small. I can change the fonts size of the dates and change the background of the printed copy?
I want to make a 100% automated Windows 7 installation. (Literally 100%, meaning you do not have to know anything to install it) You only need to put the DVD into the DVD Rom and restart the computer and it will automatically:
1- Boots the computer from the DVD (No need to set the DVD Rom to the first priority)
2- Formats the drive C:
3- Installs the windows and drivers and some software
I know how to do part 3, but I'm not sure about parts 1 and 2.
I just got a new computer with Windows 7 home premium. After it opens up,and is idle about 3 min. it go to sleep. Where would I find the setting to make the time longer before it go to sleep.
I suddenly started seeing this ugly font (see images below) on many webpages.I think this issue began right around the time I installed some other fonts, but I am not sure. Initially, I figured it was a Chrome thing but have since confirmed the issue extends to IE and Firefox, leading me to believe this is a Windows issue. By the time I tried to revert the changes via System Restore, it was too late (restore only went back a few days; maybe I need to adjust settings there?).I tried to reset the default font but Windows does not seem to respond to that. When I click "Restore to default font settings" the button greys out but nothing else happens. No dialog box and no change in the issue.
I deleted a few fonts from my font folder the other day and it seems that a few OS fonts were deleted in the process. Usually Ive got a message saying something along the lines of "this is a OS font" or "in use".Question:I noticed that my default calculator font is missing and was curious if anyone knows what font the calculator uses. I got a substituted font from the deleted one, but it looks terrible. If nobody knows the above.I went into a font deletion frenzy because I had some non-OS fonts that made my font list bulky and it took a while to scroll to the more used fonts. So I deleted some to combat this. Photoshop loads a lot faster as well due to less fonts(my little takeaway tip from all this)

If nobody knows the above. Then would anyone happen to know how to change the calculator font?

I am trying to find a way to set a variable in the cmd that is "permanent".What I mean is that I could set the variable %message% to "hello", and I could close the cmd, open it up a week later and if I typed this: Code: echo %message% This would be the result Code: hello Using the normal SET command will only set the variable for the time the cmd is open. I need to set the variable within the system so that it will stay if I close the cmd.
My cursor wont stay as selected in windows mouse pointer configuration settings. It reverts to a gray box with a black border, blue up-down arrow in the upper right corner, and a portion of a finger in the lower right corner. I can't find a cursor file that is associated with this stubborn cursor, and I need to find out what the file is that is associated with this so I can DELETE it.
I'm having a problem when I try to make changes, computer will not let me save or apply the changes.Ex-I try to change the volume and bounces back to the same position it was in as soon as I move the mouse.I try to use any drop down list and and whatever I click on it does not stay
I need to permanently display a massage ( a static one line ) on windows 7 desktops (in the computer lab) , to appear all times on top of any running application. I should be able to change the text and banner size. what do I need to do that? Or how do I do that?
I was doing some programming for school and then the IDE stopped working and so did Windows, itself, but I had to get somewhere, so i forced myself to pull my 1 GB usb drive out without safely removing it. Still it was acting weird, so I just shut it down. Now I put the usb back in, and apparently I have to format it. I don't want to because I didn't back up recent work but eventually I had to choose to format it.
Initially when I went to format it, the format size was still at "0.98 GB" but now, it changed to "8 MB" even if I try to format it at 8 MB. Quick format provides a "Windows was unable to complete the format". Normal format provides a similar error. Diskmgmt formatting provides a similar error.
I never had a problem like this before (even when pulling out drives at time when it failed to respond) but I would still like to utilize the usb. Is there a way that i can retrieve the 1 GB back?
I'm not sure what the issue is but I can go in and change the mouse cursors and everything works until I restart the computer. Then it immediately reverts back to the default Windows 7 Aero cursor. When I go back in the cursors settings it has my settings listed but I have to hit "Ok" and then it's fine again.

I was trying to download a trial of adobe photo shop to do my homework and i am on my moms laptop. i went to open the program and a dialog box popped up asking what program i wanted to use to open this file, (i didnt notice the checked box at the time stating it was going to use this option for all files associated with this extension!) and the only available program that was listed was WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER and i needed to use the program so i clicked on it.... wish i wouldnt have. it changed ALL my .exe programs ie; google, firefox, system restore and now anytime i try to run anything the media center comes up!!
I have seen on the web that several other people have done the same exact thing. I was freaking out cause this is not my computer and so i went to accounts and made a new admin desktop, which is what i am on now. i have found involves doing something on the actual desktop that is messed up. but i cannot open any executable files on that desktop ie;command prompt,so i cannot do anything on there.
i know there has to be some way to reverse what i did, i just need someone to walk me through the process so i dont screw the computer up any more than i already have, i am able to open system restore in the new desktop, i but dont think that will have any affect on the change i made let alone have an effect on the other desktop from this desktop. I also went to the place on the desktop to change the default for programs and .exe is not listed.
I would like to make a change in the view of Windows Explorer (not IE) in Windows 7 OS. I click on View and then Choose Detail and choose Date. That changes what I see in the Contents Pane. I can see the Date of the files. But, when I change to a different folder, I have to do it all over again. How can I make this change permanent?
I am using 3 external hard drives and noticed a couple of times there drive letters have changed. Maybe I have had them unplugged for some reason I cannot remember, but it causes confusion with some files that use shortcuts. I would like to know if it is possible to give the drives permanent drive letters also change there names?
I installed WinXP-mode to regain the use of a scanner for which there are no Windows 7 drivers; and then I found I could continue using Outlook Express as my email client. I also discovered that dragging items from one desktop to another is NOT possible; BUT from WinXP, I can 'look into' the Windows 7 system. So I created a folder in the root of Windows 7 as a 'clearing house' for file exchange between Windows 7 and WinXP. For convenience, I put a shortcut to that folder on the WinXP desktop. Sad to say, its viability lasts only for the session. When the Windows 7 PC shuts down, the link to that shortcut is broken. Is there a way to make it permanent?
Is possible to become permanent NT Authority/SYSTEM or other nt authority user? I think nt authority is something like domain and by hacks there are ways to be system but not permanent.
I wanted to use my 180gb ssd as a boot drive and I do not know what to do. I installed windows and some drivers on the hdd but i want to start over and I need some guidance.I am doing a clean install now. once thats done how do i make the ssd the boot drive to make my system scream! also will i need to put drivers on both hdd and ssd?
I have two hdds (500gb 7200rpm) in my laptop and have 260gb of data on the second one. I wanted to create a partition for games at the beggining of the 2nd drive (the left side) as i heard it increased performance to put games in anoher drive and at the beggining of the drive. Will it make difference to make a partition at the beginning or at the end of this drive when it comes to gaming performance? My cousin showed me one game in the same drive installed in the 1st of four partitions of a 500gb 7200rpm (the same i have) performing with 3-5 fps more than that game installed in the 4th partition of that same drive....
I need to install a font thats missing from W7, so I go to Google and get Microsofts answer. Go to Control Panel, click on appearance and open the Font section, then click on "File" and choose "Install a Font". However, as is typical to 40% of their instructions, its not there. There is no " Install a Font" theres everything else however, adjusting, gazing at, painting, thinking about, wondering about or even sleeping with fonts, but there is no "Install a Font" I'm sorry, but I get so annoyed with having to take my time to try to correct something and taking the time to try to find the answers and having to bother someone like you in the 'forum' to find an answer that should be there. It's just so typical of MS and I go back to DOS. So, I apologize to you, educated forum reader, that you have to waste your valuable brain power and tell me how to do this simple thing which a ten year old working somewhere at MS should be able to get correct bullet proof instructions so that a simpleton like myself can actually do it.
I've formatted my laptop a few days ago and thought that some fonts in some websites looked weird compared to before, I thought I was just being paranoid and that it was my imagination, but after a few days where I couldn't stop to think that, I took a printscreen in the other pc on the house and comparing side to side to mine it as clear as day that it's different On the left it's how mine is, on the right how the other PC is(and how it was before in mine). All I did was formatting and installing most of the programs that was installed before on the laptop, I didn't tweaked the fonts or anything. Oh, also this is not specific to a browser, the font on internet explorer or firefox looks exactly the same. I tried resetting to default and checked that the font used is Segoe UI size 9.
have a Samsung NP-QX411 Laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. About two days ago or so some of my dialogs started missing text. (See attached images.)It's not just Windows related dialogs that are missing text. Some of my programs, such as Team Viewer and Advanced System Care, are also missing text while others such as Malwarebytes are not. Also, some Windows dialogs such as Task Manager and System restore are missing text but others such as Device manager are not.I have tried updating all my display drivers directly from the Samsung website but nothing seems to be working. I want to try a system restore but, as you can see in my posted image, I cannot even run System Restore because there is no text for me to see what I am doing. I am normally really good at fixing computers
I have windows 7, Hotmail, Internet Explorer. When typing in a new email message on say font size 12, after typing the 3rd or 4th lines, the next line font size decreases to 10. How can I stop this happening.
