How To Make NumLock On By Default When Windows 7 Boots Up
Feb 27, 2010
This is a minor irritation that I can't seem to solve. How do I make NumLock on by default when Windows Seven boots up and when I log out and change users?I have alphanumeric passwords and when I go to login with my password, I sometimes forget to hit numlock first. I looked for a setting and a registry key, but to no avail.
My issue is that i would like to be able to have media center audio play only through my tv and not through my pc main speaker system, tv is hooked through hdmi output on graphics card, speaker system through 5.1 output on motherboard. I have tried the audiorenderupdater extender but all that does is set default audio out for entire system, so when itunes is used or game is played on computer audio goes through tv. I would like all system noises, media player, and game audio to run through pc speakers and simultaneously all media center audio (recorded/live tv) to go through tv audio, so i can watch sports center while playing mass effect and have audio from sportscenter on tv audio from mass effect on pc speakers.
Also is there a way to separate media player's actions from media center's. For example if you are laying music in media player and then open media center and play a tv show, music playback stops, not a big deal just like media player better than itunes and would like to be able to watch tv in media center while playing music in media player rather than itunes
I want to make a 100% automated Windows 7 installation. (Literally 100%, meaning you do not have to know anything to install it) You only need to put the DVD into the DVD Rom and restart the computer and it will automatically:
1- Boots the computer from the DVD (No need to set the DVD Rom to the first priority)
2- Formats the drive C:
3- Installs the windows and drivers and some software
I know how to do part 3, but I'm not sure about parts 1 and 2.
we already checked the registry keys to ensure they were set to have Num Lock on at boot - and typically he has no issues with Num Lock. However when he opens Windows Live Email it turns off Num Lock. I tested to see if opening Windows Live email would turn Num Lock on if it was off but it doesn't. It only turns Num Lock of if it is on.
I have read a few threads on this forum and the last attempt at fixing this was ... Control Panel >> Ease of Access >> Make the keyboard easier to use>>Turn on toggle keys >> On or Off? However that was unsuccessful.
I can not make Windows Mail rigged to work in Windows 7 hold the default. I try to open an eml. file that is filed in docs and choose WM to do so, but it won't open it, just brings up WM. I had it working at one time about a week ago, and then my hard drive crashed and I lost.
Im sick of windows 7 trying to open Windows Live Mail... I hate that resource hungry application and choose to use hotmail directly in the browser... but how to I set hotmail to be default email? im always logged in to hotmail on chrome, there are ways to set it for Vista using an application but it wont run on windows 7.
Is there an easy way to make Notepad my default editor? Some how Wordpad is default. I read where I could go into the registry and change it there but I am not comfortable with tapering with the registry. With XP, I could change it very easily. As a side note, presently in Windows 7, when I save text in Wordpad, I normally chose a simple, plain text 'save as' only but it saves my work in the fanciest rich text format with full headers? Have saved tries in the other Wordpad choices but I always get the fanciest text format. I bring up simple Notepad and save my work. However, when I call it up again, it is in the fancy rich text Wordpad format? I would just as soon save my simple notes in Notepad.
I want to make Hotmail the Firefox default---I have used this in the past, and it worked. Now, no luck. To make Firefox use Hotmail for mailto links, do the following.
1. Type about:config into your location bar and hit enter. If you've never edited used about:config before, you'll see a warning. 2. Click "I'll be careful, I promise!" This will bring you to the about:config window. 3. In the filter field type "gecko". Double click the first entry gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost to change the value to true. 4. Copy and paste the text between the following text into the location bar and hit enter: javascript:navigator.registerProtocolHandler('mailto', [URL]); 5. You will see an information bar drop down at the top of the window. Click "Add Application." You've finished installing the Hotmail protocol now you just need to select it. 6. Go to Firefox>Preferences>Applications, if you are using a Mac, or Tools>Options>Applications, if you are using Windows. Now scroll down the list by content type and find mailto. In the drop-down menu to the right select "Use Hotmail". 7. Next, return to about:config. 8. If the warning comes up again, click "I'll be careful, I promise!" 9. In the filter field type "gecko", and double click the first entry gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost to change the value back to false.
Please see the prntscrn to see that I do not have desktop as a default selection. I can scroll down but my children and wife will not remember to do so. How do I make it a default?
Running Windows 7 (64 bit), Eudora 7.1.0.9, Microsoft Office 2003 (Outlook is installed but I do not use Outlook as my email client)I want to attach a file to an email in Eudora by positioning mouse over a picture or a pdf file then right click mouse, click "send to", click "mail recipient". However, Outlook opens up and my attachment is placed in Outlook. Eudora is my default email program so why isn't Eudora receiving the attachment. When I close Outlook and try again I get message "Microsoft Office Outlook. A dialog box is open. Close it and try again." I went to tools, options, advanced options, Com Add-ins, and unchecked the add-ons but this does not help.I am unable to uninstall just Outlook (Excel and Word also uninstall with it). When I click control panel, uninstall, Microsoft Office the "change" option does not appear. Only Uninstall (as in uninstall the entire Office program) appears. So uninstalling Outlook is not an option. On my old Windows XP computer , I had the same software installed (Eudora and Ooutlook)and attaching files to Eudora worked perfectly.
I got it set up and everything, but I was wondering if I could make it so when it's showing on my TV, it automatically switches over to the TV sound. And when I turn it off, if it could automatically go back to the computers speakers.
I cannot get rid of Firefox as my default browser - I've tried everything suggested, but each has a "roadblock". I will follow directions, then what I need is missing, almost as if Firefox has deleted things to self protect. There is no ADD DELETE PROGRAMS,the Folder Types section has no tab for what you ask, places where I should click the Internet Explorer name only contains Mozilla Firefox
How can i make IE9 save web pages in a default format So, anyways, is there a registry hack anyone has made for IE 9 that can force IE 9 to stop choosing mht as the default format? I am sick, have been for years, of switching it to htm. It's also noteable that more webpages on IE are able to saved in mht form, rather than htm (and firefox can save any ANY page in either format). It's as if Bill Gates had a mht fetish and decided we should all go by his ways.I'm using 64 bit windows.
Is it possible to make a link on the desktop, or elsewhere, and when opened, to open it with a specific program rather then the default? Specifically, I use FF as my default browser, but I would like to use IE for a couple specific links. I know I can just open IE but it would be convenient to create an icon/link on the desktop to the location, and when opened, to be opened by IE rather then the default program for that extension (FF).I just realized that I could make another extension, a new one not used by any program, and just make that extension opened by IE by default then rename the link on the desktop, I think that would work, but is there a way to edit the link and tell it specifically what program to use when clicked rather then the default?
I have a 120GB SSD for system etc. I have a 1TB HDD for everything else. How do I change the default program files folders (x86 and regular) so that when I am installing a program the first choice is on this second drive instead of C?
I just upgraded my cpu, mobo, ram and HDD recently and I am having some issues. I have the Phenom ll 3.2ghz 1090T amd cpu with the ASRock 970 Extreme 3 mobo with 2x4gb Corsair Vengeance ram. My problem is that when I try to use my ram, my pc freezes on the Starting windows screen while the bubbles are coming together to make the microsoft logo. I am using my old ram that is a 2gb 1333 ram. I have another stick of the same ram but I am unable to use that as well. My OS has all its updates and I am completely stuck right now and a lil frustrated. I have consulted many people and nothing has worked.
I have had a strange problem.Windows 7 only boots up every other boot. In between the computer hangs at the Advent screen.I have been into MSconfig and in start up disabled all and in Services, again disabled all and hidden Microsoft. It now starts up ok but will I have caused other issues by disabling all and hiding Microsoft?
Turn my labtop and get thisFor atheros pcie Ethernet controller v2.0.1.9(12/15/09),Don't know if I need a windows7 boot up disc. I tryed useing a repair disc I made of my friends windows7 labtop to fix but it didn't work.
I built a new pc with AMD fx8150 with ASUS M5A97R 2.0 .I had never seen such a bios before with so many complications so loaded bios default and installed OS Win 7 Ultimate x64. (Bios showed 2 DVD drives in boot selection menu when i have only one).I completed the installation and when rebooted the windows returned with error "disk read error occurred-press ctrl+Alt+del to restart) and this continues for 3-4 times and suddenly 5th attempt will boot my windows.sometimes it will only boot after i enter the BIOS>Boot Menu>Boot Priority and select BOOT OVERRIDE option.
My windows 7 ultimate x64 was running perfectly well and fast until my Powercool 80 plus 7500W PSU burst (died) i then got a replacement Crosair CX600 600W. I installed the new PSU then power up my PC, It is then when i discovered it takes forever Windows to boot up, and mostly it does not boot up at all.I am suspecting some sort of Hardware damage caused by PSU burst.Checked my RAM on different PC works fine.Checked my Graphic Card on different PC works fine.
So just a few minutes ago my desktop was running fine and all. I was opening and reading documents off my flash drive when all of a sudden it turned off and proceeded to restart. Upon passing the POST screen, it comes to an error page that says boot device not found. Just FYI I have a WD 250GB boot drive and two additional Samsung 1TB drives set up in RAID 1 NTFS. So I look in BIOS for my boot drive and find it there and it says its working. However, when I try to set the WD boot drive as the first boot device, it does not show it as an option at all. Only my raid drive shows up along with removable drive, and cd drive.I need some ideas as to what could have caused this. The WD drive is a few years old, but I don't think the drive would have just died like that; there were no previous cues for the hard drive starting to fail. It still shows up in BIOS and powers up.I wanna hope that the MBR was somehow corrupted, which should be an easy repair I think if I can get my hands on the ISO file. Also, it's Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
