Make Mc7 Default Audio Output Separate From System Default?
Mar 6, 2012
My issue is that i would like to be able to have media center audio play only through my tv and not through my pc main speaker system, tv is hooked through hdmi output on graphics card, speaker system through 5.1 output on motherboard. I have tried the audiorenderupdater extender but all that does is set default audio out for entire system, so when itunes is used or game is played on computer audio goes through tv. I would like all system noises, media player, and game audio to run through pc speakers and simultaneously all media center audio (recorded/live tv) to go through tv audio, so i can watch sports center while playing mass effect and have audio from sportscenter on tv audio from mass effect on pc speakers.
Also is there a way to separate media player's actions from media center's. For example if you are laying music in media player and then open media center and play a tv show, music playback stops, not a big deal just like media player better than itunes and would like to be able to watch tv in media center while playing music in media player rather than itunes

I have a minor issue with my laptop switching to the default speakers when it's put to sleep. It's only started doing this recently and I've made no configuration changes whatsoever. My laptop is connected to an audio receiver via HDMI which is never turned off. When I put my laptop to sleep (usually from within XBMC) the laptop no longer recognizes my receiver as an audio output and requires a log out/in to reconnect it. Like I said earlier, this has only started happening recently.

splitting audio to two separate output devices in windows 7 x64.I'm preparing my primary PC to act as a Media center. Ideally I'd like for someone to be able to watch netflix, or online videos on the TV with audio and video running through the HDMI cable while someone else can use the PC monitor & desktop speakers to game or do other tasks. The issue is both gaming applications and chrome (or other web browsers) only support audio playing through the default audio device in windows 7. As a result, i'm forced to pick whether i want all audio to play from the TV speakers or the desktop speakers.
Summary of Specs:
Asus M2N-Sli Deluxe mobo - rear port used for desktop speakers
Radeon HD 6870 - HDMI for TV sound
Athlon 64 x2 6000+
4 gigs ram
Doing some research I've learned this was a feature in win XP but was dropped in vista/7. On windows 7 support forums the Microsoft Support reply that it was an intentional omission win both windows 7 and vista.I know how to direct the audio from winamp, media player classic, and WMP to the output device of my choosing.I have tried three third party applications:Virtual Audio Cable: lets me play the same audio out both the HDMI connection and the desktop speakers.IndieVolume: shows promise as it lets me direct audio from applications to the output device i choose, but all attempts to get the software to change my web browser's output device haven't worked. I also think the software is not supported for windows 7 x64.J River - Media Center 17: media center software with an embedded web browser. Using this media center i can direct the audio from any media on my computer to the audio device of my choosing, but the embedded web browser plays out of windows default output device not the audio device i choose.

If you have a small but fast (or maybe not so fast) drive that you would like to ONLY run Windows off of and a larger separate HDD that you want to use as the install drive for all programs. In my case I have a 50GB SSD and a RAID0 array of 2TB. With space being limited on the SSD the best option for me is to install everything to the RAID array and leave the OS on the SSD. Mind you, you don't have to be running a RAID array to do this. That's just how my system is set up. You'll probably be better off just using a larger single HDD for stability reasons. And if you are doing a fresh install you should give this tutorial a look: User Profiles - Create and Move During Windows 7 Installation So the first step is to open REGEDIT. Simply click the Start Menu, type REGEDIT in the search bar and hit ENTER.Next look for the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" Once opened go to "SOFTWARE". There are two folder in this directory we will be editing. Note that the second folder "WOW64" is only for 64-bit users. If you are running 32-bit then the "WINDOWS" folder is all you will need to make changes to.Now from the "WINDOWS" folder you want to select "CURRENTVERSION". Simply click the folder itself not the arrow next to it. This is what you should see in the main window to the right of the directories. Now my registry settings have already been changed. Note that my secondary drive is "D:". Originaly everything here was set to "C:".
Once this is finished the 32-bit users are finished and can restart their systems. 64-bit users have one more step. Now you want to go to your "WOW64" folder. While I just realized I forgot to cut a snippet for this step it's fairly simple. Once in the "WOW64" folder you once again want to click the "CURRENTUSER" folder and observe the main window to the right.Just like in the "WINDOWS" registry you will make the same changes. Once you have implemented your drive your registry should look like this. Now restart your system. Though there is a chance you are completely finished I highly suggest running a command prompt session and typing "sfc /scannow". This will allow your system to scan for any conflicts in the internal settings and fix them.

I want to make Hotmail the Firefox default---I have used this in the past, and it worked. Now, no luck. To make Firefox use Hotmail for mailto links, do the following.
1. Type about:config into your location bar and hit enter. If you've never edited used about:config before, you'll see a warning.
2. Click "I'll be careful, I promise!" This will bring you to the about:config window.
3. In the filter field type "gecko". Double click the first entry gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost to change the value to true.
4. Copy and paste the text between the following text into the location bar and hit enter: javascript:navigator.registerProtocolHandler('mailto', [URL]);
5. You will see an information bar drop down at the top of the window. Click "Add Application." You've finished installing the Hotmail protocol now you just need to select it.
6. Go to Firefox>Preferences>Applications, if you are using a Mac, or Tools>Options>Applications, if you are using Windows. Now scroll down the list by content type and find mailto. In the drop-down menu to the right select "Use Hotmail".
7. Next, return to about:config.
8. If the warning comes up again, click "I'll be careful, I promise!"
9. In the filter field type "gecko", and double click the first entry gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost to change the value back to false.

Running Windows 7 (64 bit), Eudora 7.1.0.9, Microsoft Office 2003 (Outlook is installed but I do not use Outlook as my email client)I want to attach a file to an email in Eudora by positioning mouse over a picture or a pdf file then right click mouse, click "send to", click "mail recipient". However, Outlook opens up and my attachment is placed in Outlook. Eudora is my default email program so why isn't Eudora receiving the attachment. When I close Outlook and try again I get message "Microsoft Office Outlook. A dialog box is open. Close it and try again." I went to tools, options, advanced options, Com Add-ins, and unchecked the add-ons but this does not help.I am unable to uninstall just Outlook (Excel and Word also uninstall with it). When I click control panel, uninstall, Microsoft Office the "change" option does not appear. Only Uninstall (as in uninstall the entire Office program) appears. So uninstalling Outlook is not an option. On my old Windows XP computer , I had the same software installed (Eudora and Ooutlook)and attaching files to Eudora worked perfectly.

Is there an easy way to make Notepad my default editor? Some how Wordpad is default. I read where I could go into the registry and change it there but I am not comfortable with tapering with the registry. With XP, I could change it very easily. As a side note, presently in Windows 7, when I save text in Wordpad, I normally chose a simple, plain text 'save as' only but it saves my work in the fanciest rich text format with full headers? Have saved tries in the other Wordpad choices but I always get the fanciest text format. I bring up simple Notepad and save my work. However, when I call it up again, it is in the fancy rich text Wordpad format? I would just as soon save my simple notes in Notepad.

How can i make IE9 save web pages in a default format So, anyways, is there a registry hack anyone has made for IE 9 that can force IE 9 to stop choosing mht as the default format? I am sick, have been for years, of switching it to htm. It's also noteable that more webpages on IE are able to saved in mht form, rather than htm (and firefox can save any ANY page in either format). It's as if Bill Gates had a mht fetish and decided we should all go by his ways.I'm using 64 bit windows.

Is it possible to make a link on the desktop, or elsewhere, and when opened, to open it with a specific program rather then the default? Specifically, I use FF as my default browser, but I would like to use IE for a couple specific links. I know I can just open IE but it would be convenient to create an icon/link on the desktop to the location, and when opened, to be opened by IE rather then the default program for that extension (FF).I just realized that I could make another extension, a new one not used by any program, and just make that extension opened by IE by default then rename the link on the desktop, I think that would work, but is there a way to edit the link and tell it specifically what program to use when clicked rather then the default?

I recently connected my HDMI output from my LCD to my PC.I have Nvidia GTS 250. I looked around for some tutorials and solutions to my problem but non of them seem to work since they all say the same thing: set the HDMI as default in my audio settings. I tried but i couldn't do it because it wont let me. I open up Control Panel> Sound and I can't seem to find anything but my SPDIF. When I click on it, the "Set as default" button is not availble. I can't press it. when I right click on it.I had Nvidia Geforce 8400GS.Nothing. Then I updated to the latest drivers. NOTHING!So I installed my old GPU, Nvidia GTS 250 and also installed the latest drivers form their website and still nothing!I tried to remove and reinstall Realtek HD audio drivers and still nothing. When I right click my SPDIF option I see "test sound" and when I click it I can see the green audio thing goes up at the system tray.

Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on HP-DM1-4050us laptop, disabled a couple of unneeded services, now headphones not working, no idea which service caused this but I didn't touch either of the two required audio services (Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder). Audio now plays fine through speakers, but plug headphones in and it's mute. Headphones work fine with other audio devices like my phone, though. Triple checked I'm using the right jack and plugging in completely. I ran the Audio troubleshooting wizard, and it appears the problem is that there are two devices, "Speakers and Headphones" and "Communications Headphones", and the former is the default audio device, the latter is the default communications device, when the latter needs to be both. However, right clicking the latter device and hitting "Make Default Audio Device" has no effect, the former option remains the default audio device. Anyone know what the problem is here, why the default audio device can't be changed, or what windows service could have anything to do with this (besides the two primary audio services)?

Since I have never used Microsoft audio drivers, are they of the same quality as the SigmaTel's? My current version is: 6.1.7600.16385
Any issues with keeping this default Microsoft HD Audio driver?

I have my computer hooked up to a home theater system. Most of the time, my computer audio output is set to my on-board motherboard audio connected to simple speakers, but I frequently switch the default device to digital output through my sound card (HTO Striker 7.1). My goal is to create a file that I can keep on the desktop that will switch the default audio device. In a perfect world, it would switch back and forth between the 2 settings that I use, but I understand that it might be too much to ask for. I have a bit of experience with batch files in XP, but that was essentially reverse-engineering things that I found online.

for some reason, my windows 7 is only offering two types of default format for my usb audio device driver; telephone quality and tape recorder quality.
obviously both of these are shockingly bad. the thing that makes it worse is that i have just brought a brand new usb desktop microphone (logitech usb desktop microphone) and windows is only offering the same settings as my old webcam microphone (and it sounds just as bad).
there is one thing i am confused about though: in this video; logitech usb desktop microphone working on windows 7 64bit - Internet
the guy is using windows 7 64-bit (same as me) but he has the option to increase the audio quality to dvd quality. it's the same exact microphone, same windows and appears to be the same driver. i'm running windows 7 ultimate 64-bit so it should include all of the drivers, yes?
logitech doesn't offer any drivers and the guy in the video mysteriously has the same driver but has more options than me. the microphone is just as useless with loud echos and the like as my old webcam microphone.
