Is there an easy way to make Notepad my default editor? Some how Wordpad is default. I read where I could go into the registry and change it there but I am not comfortable with tapering with the registry. With XP, I could change it very easily. As a side note, presently in Windows 7, when I save text in Wordpad, I normally chose a simple, plain text 'save as' only but it saves my work in the fanciest rich text format with full headers? Have saved tries in the other Wordpad choices but I always get the fanciest text format. I bring up simple Notepad and save my work. However, when I call it up again, it is in the fancy rich text Wordpad format? I would just as soon save my simple notes in Notepad.
I installed a software called ultraEdit on my windows 7 machine, but then after uninstalling it my text documents no longer use Notepad as the default program to open. I tried changing the default program that text documents open with, but it is not letting me
After having my hard drive formatted and Windows 7 reinstalled I now find I am unable to select text in WordPad and Notepad.Theres no problem with Word 2010.Computer informationOS: Window 7rocessor: Intel Core i3 CPU 530 @ 2.93GHz 2.93 GHzInstalled memory: 4.00 GBSystem type: 64-bit Operating System
My issue is that i would like to be able to have media center audio play only through my tv and not through my pc main speaker system, tv is hooked through hdmi output on graphics card, speaker system through 5.1 output on motherboard. I have tried the audiorenderupdater extender but all that does is set default audio out for entire system, so when itunes is used or game is played on computer audio goes through tv. I would like all system noises, media player, and game audio to run through pc speakers and simultaneously all media center audio (recorded/live tv) to go through tv audio, so i can watch sports center while playing mass effect and have audio from sportscenter on tv audio from mass effect on pc speakers.
Also is there a way to separate media player's actions from media center's. For example if you are laying music in media player and then open media center and play a tv show, music playback stops, not a big deal just like media player better than itunes and would like to be able to watch tv in media center while playing music in media player rather than itunes
I've already picked the smallest icons for the start menuIs it possible to make the start menu text smaller too?I have a 1366x768 screen, and would like to fit more pinned apps to the start menu by shrinking the text
I have a laptop that i often connect to a tv screen. When i am just using the laptop screen i keep the dpi value to its normal default setting, but inceease it when i connect it to the tv so things are easier to read. When i disconnect from the tv and go back to the laptop screen everything is too big bevause of the increased dpi,i set it back to its default settings. However when i do this everything is rediculously small and sometimes impossible to read. Even setting a larger dpi from this point creates text that is too small. I cant go higher from this point because it also makes my windows too big. Does anyone know how i can get back my normal text size with a default setting of 100% dpi?
I can not make Windows Mail rigged to work in Windows 7 hold the default. I try to open an eml. file that is filed in docs and choose WM to do so, but it won't open it, just brings up WM. I had it working at one time about a week ago, and then my hard drive crashed and I lost.
Im sick of windows 7 trying to open Windows Live Mail... I hate that resource hungry application and choose to use hotmail directly in the browser... but how to I set hotmail to be default email? im always logged in to hotmail on chrome, there are ways to set it for Vista using an application but it wont run on windows 7.
This is a minor irritation that I can't seem to solve. How do I make NumLock on by default when Windows Seven boots up and when I log out and change users?I have alphanumeric passwords and when I go to login with my password, I sometimes forget to hit numlock first. I am trying to create a template with specific styling to be used by our group. Any document created with this template should be saved to a shared network folder. I'd like to know if this is possible...When I right click on my template and choose NEW, the resulting document should use...- the default text font face, size and colour that I specified.- the default paragraph spacing and indentation rules that I specified.
I want to make Hotmail the Firefox default---I have used this in the past, and it worked. Now, no luck. To make Firefox use Hotmail for mailto links, do the following.
1. Type about:config into your location bar and hit enter. If you've never edited used about:config before, you'll see a warning. 2. Click "I'll be careful, I promise!" This will bring you to the about:config window. 3. In the filter field type "gecko". Double click the first entry gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost to change the value to true. 4. Copy and paste the text between the following text into the location bar and hit enter: javascript:navigator.registerProtocolHandler('mailto', [URL]); 5. You will see an information bar drop down at the top of the window. Click "Add Application." You've finished installing the Hotmail protocol now you just need to select it. 6. Go to Firefox>Preferences>Applications, if you are using a Mac, or Tools>Options>Applications, if you are using Windows. Now scroll down the list by content type and find mailto. In the drop-down menu to the right select "Use Hotmail". 7. Next, return to about:config. 8. If the warning comes up again, click "I'll be careful, I promise!" 9. In the filter field type "gecko", and double click the first entry gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost to change the value back to false.
Please see the prntscrn to see that I do not have desktop as a default selection. I can scroll down but my children and wife will not remember to do so. How do I make it a default?
Running Windows 7 (64 bit), Eudora 7.1.0.9, Microsoft Office 2003 (Outlook is installed but I do not use Outlook as my email client)I want to attach a file to an email in Eudora by positioning mouse over a picture or a pdf file then right click mouse, click "send to", click "mail recipient". However, Outlook opens up and my attachment is placed in Outlook. Eudora is my default email program so why isn't Eudora receiving the attachment. When I close Outlook and try again I get message "Microsoft Office Outlook. A dialog box is open. Close it and try again." I went to tools, options, advanced options, Com Add-ins, and unchecked the add-ons but this does not help.I am unable to uninstall just Outlook (Excel and Word also uninstall with it). When I click control panel, uninstall, Microsoft Office the "change" option does not appear. Only Uninstall (as in uninstall the entire Office program) appears. So uninstalling Outlook is not an option. On my old Windows XP computer , I had the same software installed (Eudora and Ooutlook)and attaching files to Eudora worked perfectly.
I got it set up and everything, but I was wondering if I could make it so when it's showing on my TV, it automatically switches over to the TV sound. And when I turn it off, if it could automatically go back to the computers speakers.
I cannot get rid of Firefox as my default browser - I've tried everything suggested, but each has a "roadblock". I will follow directions, then what I need is missing, almost as if Firefox has deleted things to self protect. There is no ADD DELETE PROGRAMS,the Folder Types section has no tab for what you ask, places where I should click the Internet Explorer name only contains Mozilla Firefox
How can i make IE9 save web pages in a default format So, anyways, is there a registry hack anyone has made for IE 9 that can force IE 9 to stop choosing mht as the default format? I am sick, have been for years, of switching it to htm. It's also noteable that more webpages on IE are able to saved in mht form, rather than htm (and firefox can save any ANY page in either format). It's as if Bill Gates had a mht fetish and decided we should all go by his ways.I'm using 64 bit windows.
Is it possible to make a link on the desktop, or elsewhere, and when opened, to open it with a specific program rather then the default? Specifically, I use FF as my default browser, but I would like to use IE for a couple specific links. I know I can just open IE but it would be convenient to create an icon/link on the desktop to the location, and when opened, to be opened by IE rather then the default program for that extension (FF).I just realized that I could make another extension, a new one not used by any program, and just make that extension opened by IE by default then rename the link on the desktop, I think that would work, but is there a way to edit the link and tell it specifically what program to use when clicked rather then the default?
I have a 120GB SSD for system etc. I have a 1TB HDD for everything else. How do I change the default program files folders (x86 and regular) so that when I am installing a program the first choice is on this second drive instead of C?
Ok this is wierd I have a client using Office 2007 pro and some of her docs that she recently updated and the problem is when she prints the docs text that she deleted is printing over the top of new text she inserted into the doc.
Now when you have said doc open in WORD the deleted text is not there in any view and does NOT show in "print preview".
I opened said doc with WORDPAD and the deleted text shows up at the bottom so its still in the word doc somewhere imbedded so it prints over the top of the actual text in the doc.
I just switch from MS Win XP 32-bit. but it seem that MS-DOS editor in MS Win 7 64-bit is no longer existed. so is it relevant to keep searching another edit.com n put it into this environment MS-DOS at system32. I should just go for another 3rd party editor? The edit.com from my Win XP 32-bit actually a 32 or 16 bit?
I have a project where I need to search a large amount of text files on my home PC. I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7. My research indicated this feature was available in Windows 7.
If you do a search in Windows XP, you get a bunch of fields. You can pick to search for text INSIDE the particular sub folder structure.
I have found this feature in Windows 7, but it is different. I have tried using wild cards but it does not seem to work properly.
