View 0 RepliesI have installed Xemacs for windows and I'm having a problem associating it as the default program for .txt files. I know the standard process, but that standard process doesn't work. I have "Windows 7 Home Premium installed on a 32 bit system. I go thru the standard process via Default Progams/Associate a file type/ process and then browse to the Xemacs application. When I select it, nothing happens. When I check the association, it's shown as "Unknown application". Note: I have a 64bit system that handles the assocation just fine.
Also, on the original system, the choices for default programs is very limited. It seems that programs I have installed some how are not being populated in the eligible "default programs" list?
Any ideas? Is there a brute force way to add programs to the Windows 7 default programs list?
How can I add a program to 'Default Programs' in Windows 7 ? I want to add Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer to the list because it is not there but is used to open a number of files including PPS.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOk, I'm using COWON jetAudio as my media player in Windows 7 (I've been using this all in one media player for years now, and I love it.) And I'm trying to associate all of the file types to jetAudio.
When I go into the jetAudio preferences, and check all file types, it doesn't work properly, I'm guessing it's due to the fact that Windows 7 is still Beta.

My issue is that i would like to be able to have media center audio play only through my tv and not through my pc main speaker system, tv is hooked through hdmi output on graphics card, speaker system through 5.1 output on motherboard. I have tried the audiorenderupdater extender but all that does is set default audio out for entire system, so when itunes is used or game is played on computer audio goes through tv. I would like all system noises, media player, and game audio to run through pc speakers and simultaneously all media center audio (recorded/live tv) to go through tv audio, so i can watch sports center while playing mass effect and have audio from sportscenter on tv audio from mass effect on pc speakers.
Also is there a way to separate media player's actions from media center's. For example if you are laying music in media player and then open media center and play a tv show, music playback stops, not a big deal just like media player better than itunes and would like to be able to watch tv in media center while playing music in media player rather than itunes
We use an in house program that resides on the user's Windows profile directory, and works with a custom file type. Normally I just associate a file with the correct extension ( .alc ) to the in house program via the file properties dialog in the Windows GUI without any trouble.
I have a user who changed the default program to Adobe Reader, and I am now unable to change the default program back to the one that is actually supposed to be used to open this file type. I can select the correct .exe file via the file properties dialog, but now it doesn't allow me to set our in-house .exe to as the program it should be opened with.
I also tried deleting each instance of the .alc file type from the registry ( After setting a restore point, of course.) which removes the association with Adobe Reader, but I am still unable to associate it with the correct exe.
A strange thing started to happen to my pc recently. When I double click on a *.m3u file I always goes to that pick a program to open this file dialogue. Even if i set winamp as a default program for this file type it does the same thing.
It doesn't bother me that much but I was wondering if any of you encountered this problem.
Any ideas on how to fix it ?

Let me state this very clearly. I DO NOT WANT THAT PROGRAM.
I have Hotmail, I would like to KEEP that. The problem is, when I go to click a link that would open up email, I get an error saying I do not have an email program and to please get one.
Is there a way to set it back so that when I click on an email link it opens IE and directs me to Hotmail?
