This was the amount I had tried to allocate to a different partition, yet it does should 920GB some places. This shows the problemI really need to get the rest back ( I make movies and need space)Gparted finds it as 920.04 GB's, so it is definitely Windows that will not detect it.UPDATE

Sep 6, 2012I just installed a fresh new copy of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit to my newly bought free dos computer yesterday. Later I installed my motherboard drivers, monitor drivers and optical disk drivers. I also installed CC cleaner.
Now I am trying to partition my 500GB Hardisk. The C: drive is around 465GB so I want to reduce C: to 150GB (OS+Programs/Software) and make another D: drive which will have the rest 315GB (Personal files + games).
The problem now is there is a limit in the shrink volume amount. And this limit i quite big. It only lets me reduce the C: drive to 243GB. Here is the Screenshot:
I tried disabling Shadows Copy, Paging File, Hibernation and System Restore but its still the same. I also tried defragging using the default windows defragger but nothing worked.

The partition labeled "Extra HD" can be erased, but I don't want my boot partition to be messed up at all. Is this even possible? I know Windows only lets you install one boot partition per hard drive.

Firewall profile "normal":
- default configuration
Firewall profile "kiosk":
- software1.exe may access the internet using ports 1234 and 2345
- software2.exe may do outgoing connections only using port 3456
- software3.exe may do incoming connections only using port 4567
- all other programs may not access the internet at all; all other connections are blocked
Further, wwitching the profile (or changing the firwall configuration in general) should only be possible using admin rights.

So I record music on my PC and have 2 guitar pedals and a synthesizer running to my computer via usb 2.0 to utilize their midi features. For some reason though when I have all of these devices on at once, one of the devices keeps disconnecting and reconnecting over and over again. I switched out the usb cable for the device and same thing.
I got a nzxt iuo1 usb expansion hub to open up some of my usb ports for future use. I don't know if this could be causing the problem because the hub itself draws its power from a psu molex header. I have the hub plugged into one of my motherboards usb headers. The hub has two flash drives and the front panel usb and card reader panels plugged into it.
On the back of my tower at the motherboards I/O port, I have these items plugged in through USB; mouse, keyboard, GNX4(guitar pedal), GR-55(guitar pedal), MO6(synthesizer), and an xbox 360 wireless reciever for gaming. Do I have more devices plugged in than Windows 7 can handle?

Sep 5, 2012In windows XP I remember I could specify whatever I remember of a file and I could get straight to the file I was looking for, I could only remember a range of dates, an approx size, tow or three file extension... and thats it.. the search in windows 7 is good, but only for looking files that you know are there and you just want to save time scrolling down until get it. I have been in this situation various times, but I cant stand it anymore
I am looking for an audio file (a recording of a conversation). I don't remember the name (probably the default name the recorder put on it [there fore must be hundreds of files with the same names but in different folders). The specs I remember from the file, or what I am sure it is are:
Size between 1mb and 20mb
Create and or modification date: between 2008 and 2010
File type: wav, mp3, qcp or amr (i don't remember if i convert it, if i edited it... )
In windows xp I would have found the file, but in this windows 7 something CANT be so simple and when it is forced to be, it doesn't work properly. When I try to use the "So Super duper" simple all mighty space for searches in the upper right corner... it only give me options for (despite the name itself ...) "modified date" and "size". How do I chose a range of date, a range of size various fiile type? Why its so complicated in windows 7?

Oct 30, 2011I was given a Pavilion DV9000z by my sister who had purchased a replacement for herself. She wiped the two installed hard drives and clean installed windows 7. It appears that there is a 100MB systemm reserved partiion on one disk (total size 320GB, the rest of which was unpartitioned when I got it), and the operating system was loaded on the second disk (120 GB).I had a dead Vista laptop which had a 100GB SATA drive. I wanted to reformat it to have as a sppare. If I pull either one of the original drives out it won't boot. If I take out the 320 GB drive (with the 100MB partition) the laptop either goes black screen (if I move the 120 GB drive into the primary bay) or tries to boot Vista (if I put the scavanged hard drive in the primary bay), or tells me operating system files are lost (if I pull the 120 GB drive and replace it with the scavanged drive).So it appears to me that the 100MB partition on the 320 GB drive is waht the system is booting from, but that it won't load Windows 7 unless the second drive is also there.Is there any way to move the system reserved partition to the 120 GB drive? Or the operating system files to the 320 GB drive? It scares me that if either drive dies, the system won't boot.

May 12, 2012Almost every Windows application that tries to deal with my new Blu-Ray drive via a Windows dialogue insists on trying to format the BD-R disk first.
You can't format a BD-R disk, it's write-once and formatting would effectively destroy the disk, at $4 a pop.
BD-R disks don't need formatting, those applications that can handle them properly and independently do just fine without formatting.
If I tell it "no, don't format the thing", then Windows insists there's no disk in the drive.
How can I tell Windows 7/64 SP1 to quit trying to format BD-R disks, and recognize them correctly?

XP To Win7: Extra Drive
Aug 30, 2009I am planning on upgrading from XP to Windows 7 Professional fairly soon. I know that it performs a clean install and that I need to back up my C drive.
My question is in regards to my secondary hardrive. Will the clean install also wipe the second hardrive or will it leave it untouched? Basically, can I back up my C drive onto the secondary drive without fear of losing it all? I would assume it would leave the second drive alone but I couldn't find any info and thus, why I am here asking.
Extra USB Port Extenders
Jan 6, 2010Amazing how fast one uses up the USB Ports supplied in the desktop PC.
Am trying to only use the ones in the back, as it gets messy if I also use the two on the front.
Have an external powered 4-Port hub that I purchased, and am using that also.
Seems like I need another one or two spigots.
Question: If I get another powered external 4-Port extender, can this be plugged into a port on the existing extra Port extender I already have, or must it only be plugged into one of the USB ports in the back of the PC ?
Does it matter at all, and the PC will recognize it either way ?
